Hearthville Serial: Book 5 – Chapter 13

Excerpt:

Victor and the ghost Nanny Ogleby continued pressing against the gate. The music stopped. The squeaking stopped. But the energy in the gate was growing. The force to the open gate was pushing back against Victor and Nanny Ogleby. It was a tremendous force and Nanny Ogleby knew it. She felt it. And she knew she was not the one holding the gate closed. It was Victor. His strength was mighty. She felt his powerful strength passing through the ether and through her as he stood at her back.

Victor said, “I am losing it. It is going to pop.”

Electricity began flashing in the sky like lightning during a storm.

White sand began to blow.

A screech owl screamed and sounded like a horse. A black stallion appeared in the sky. The lightning was at its back. The screech owl circled above the stallion. And then the beautiful and proud horse jumped high with its back legs in a kicking motion. With its third kick and a mighty fart, it vanished from the sky.

Hearthville Serial: Book 5 – Chapter 12

Excerpt:

Constance examined the lock on the wall. She stared at the creaking gates as they swung open and then they closed. “Maybe I was wrong. Maybe this is an illusion. Maybe we have been caged.”

Dioson shook his head. “We have been breaking the rules but Victor and Deven?”

Leroy said, “Maybe they just got swept in as we were being trapped and didn’t realize it.”

Victor said, “But why this illusion?”

Constance said, “True. Indeed. Why?”

Hannibal said, “Some cages are designed where the trapped create the illusion. It is a way for the Space Alien Witches to get into our minds.” Hannibal cleared his throat. “Victor, do not reveal what you know to them.”

Hearthville Serial: Book 5 – Chapter 10

Excerpt:

Diane screamed to Leroy. “You blew up my camper. You almost killed me.”

Leroy screamed, “Yeah. But still, there you are. You are worse than a bad penny.”

Diane laughed. “I might could forgive you. You could convince me.”

Leroy laughed. “You can’t begin to imagine how little your forgiveness would mean to me.”

In a more stern tone Diane said, “You do know that if I can’t forgive you, then I will have to kill you.”

Hearthville Serial: Book 5 – Chapter 9

Excerpt:

“Wait. So are you telling me to get the fuck out of your damn way?”

“I said excuse me.”

The man spoke to the three men who were standing with him. “This twink just told me to get the fuck out of his way.”

One of the three men yanked Patrick and pulled him toward the exit. Then he shoved Patrick back away from the exit. “You shouldn’t insult our friend that way.”

Hearthville Serial: Book 5 – Chapter 8

Excerpt:
Wearing black and white checkered board shorts and a white v-neck shirt Patrick Sweeney stood outside the Hearthville Saloon. A man walked by and noticed the silver chain necklace with a silver, spiked, and ruby bejeweled cross hanging from it and against Patrick’s smooth, hairless chest. The man and Patrick made eye contact but then both quickly looked away. Patrick wondered if he knew the man from somewhere but then he doubted it.

The man wore a white stetson cowboy hat with a large, colorful feather sticking up from the black hat band. He wore black framed eye glasses that appeared to not quite fit right. The man’s moustache may have been real but Patrick kind of doubted it.

Patrick turned his attention away from the man and watched other people coming and going from the Saloon. They all seemed to be men.

Hearthville Serial: Book 5 – Chapter 7

Excerpt:

Stewart and Harry fished off the pier at the Hearthville lake. Harry said, “So wow, I saw that video of Victor saving the Billy Bingo kid. Victor looked so goofy, acting all hero like.”

“He saved a life. That is not goofy. What is wrong with you?”

“And what was he doing on Arthur Ramsey’s helicopter.”

“He was doing some kind of business with Arthur. I don’t know exactly.”

“He is doing business with a mobster. Damn. He must be on the verge of going bankrupt to sink that low.”

Hearthville Serial: Book 5 – Chapter 6

“Victor. I am going to ask a stupid question. Are you a witch?”

George said, “Just like you. Not like Billy Bingo.”

“I am not a witch.”

“Yes. You. Are.”

“I am not. You are freaking me out.”

Hearthville Serial: Book 5 – Chapter 5

Excerpt:

Steed said, “I am going to tell her. I plan to tell her. But I am not ready.” Steed changed the subject. “So who is the woman in the camper that you just gave a briefcase to?”

“Some chick with a dick with whom I had some funny business. I may end up killing her.”

In horror Deven looked at Leroy. “Why on earth do you say shit like that? That macabre humor is creepy.”

Leroy took a drink of his beer and took some bites from his sandwich. “Who said I am joking? She is dangerous. And it is not like you didn’t kill her boyfriend. Don’t judge me.”

Steed said, “Wait. Fuck. You know about Dioson and Hannibal? And that woman is the girlfriend of Hannibal. Are you fucking kidding me?”

Hearthville Serial: Book 5 – Chapter 4

Excerpt:

“It went well. I may become more involved than I intended. She wouldn’t give me details on what she was planning with the kidnapping of Paulstir McCluskey, but I understand the situation better. There are people in Rachel’s businesses who are taking advantage of Rachel being in the mental hospital and that is part of what precipitated events. I do not have a clue on how to become involved and protect Rachel’s interest because I will be rebuffed as strongly as Constance was by Rachel.”

“I don’t know what to tell you. I would offer to gather intel for you but I am afraid of causing Victor to start to remembering things.”

“I understand. Paulstir McCluskey’s memory has been wiped on some things but given his history with Rachel and you, I think if he could get back inside of Rachel’s inner circle, that might be helpful. What do you think?”

“He loves Rachel. I have no doubt about that. So yeah, you can trust him to try to help her. I don’t know whether you can trust him to be loyal to you or not.” George laughed. “You do understand what I am saying.”

Arthur laughed. “I understand but I do trust him. Given your history with Paulstir, how do you feel about him?”

“I wish him no harm, but I really do not want to talk about that part of my life.”
