Hearthville Serial: Book 5 – Chapter 13

Excerpt:

Victor and the ghost Nanny Ogleby continued pressing against the gate. The music stopped. The squeaking stopped. But the energy in the gate was growing. The force to the open gate was pushing back against Victor and Nanny Ogleby. It was a tremendous force and Nanny Ogleby knew it. She felt it. And she knew she was not the one holding the gate closed. It was Victor. His strength was mighty. She felt his powerful strength passing through the ether and through her as he stood at her back.

Victor said, “I am losing it. It is going to pop.”

Electricity began flashing in the sky like lightning during a storm.

White sand began to blow.

A screech owl screamed and sounded like a horse. A black stallion appeared in the sky. The lightning was at its back. The screech owl circled above the stallion. And then the beautiful and proud horse jumped high with its back legs in a kicking motion. With its third kick and a mighty fart, it vanished from the sky.

Alice Malokey was seated in her office in the Inner Witch City. She had gone there with Sam Bigalo and her husband Phil Clyde to give a speech to some students who were in training to be hunters.

Sam and Phil came into her office. Phil announced. “We’ve got a problem.”

“What?”

Sam walked over to a side computer keyboard connected to a large wall monitor. He punched in some keys. “This is from the fight on the boardwalk in Hearthville.”

Alice smiled. “I heard about it.”

Sam began the video. Then he hit pause. He picked up a large wooden pointer. “This is Constance Bare. We believe that it was her spell that began the fighting. Sam pointed to her son Leroy. Then he pointed to Victor and Deven.”

Phil walked over and picked up another wooden pointer. He pointed to Dioson. “This is Dioson shape shifted to appear feminine.”

Sam punched a key to move the video forward in slow motion. “And this is all of them vanishing.”

Alice shrugged. “The witches were ordered to leave the area or face arrest.”

Phil said, “Victor and Deven are not supposed to know they are witches. They are not supposed to have their powers.”

Alice said, “We suspect that Victor is similar to Billy Bingo. It is not a surprise. I don’t really know very much about Deven.”

Phil said, “Well, regardless, here is the thing. The instruments went crazy and we don’t know where they transported themselves. We have a reading on all the other witches as they vanished from the boardwalk.”

Alice asked, “Does the Witches Council know about this?”

Phil said, “No. A friend who was doing the policing at the boardwalk told me about it. He did not pass the data on to his commander.”

Alice said, “Good. Still, we need to find out what happened.”

Victor repeated. “I am losing it.”

Nanny Ogleby said, “Okay. We need to jump back.”

They jumped. The gate hit them hard as it flew open. In pain. Screaming. They flipped through the air and landed several feet back away from the gate. With his arm, Victor wiped blood from his nose.

Constance saw the bleeding and quickly conjured a white handkerchief. She ran to Victor to give him aid. She put the handkerchief to his nose. “Hold your head back. It is going to be okay.”

Victor did as he was told. He moaned. “My butt hurts.”

Nanny Ogleby said, “Yeah. Tell me about. That would have killed me if I were not already dead. But let me tell you, just the same, the pain from that damn gate hitting me is the same as if I were still alive. I am in agony.”

Leroy asked, “What should I do to help you?”

Nanny Ogleby said, “Thanks dear. I will be okay.”

Leroy said, “Maybe acupuncture.”

“I don’t think so.”

“I am pretty good at acupuncture. Let me stick some needles in you.”

Nanny Oglegy screamed, “No. I hurt badly enough as it is.”

Victor felt something hard beneath his butt. He slid over and rubbed the sand off the stone as he examined it. On the stone was inscribed, “Pluto Viso.”

“Pluto Viso,” Victor said.

Nanny Ogleby said, “That is weird.”

Victor asked, “What is Pluto Viso?”

Constance looked at the stone. She said, “Pluto Viso was a planet like earth. There was huge war there between various forces. Belial won the war. And to some degree that began the invasion of earth by the Space Alien Witches to provide a place for the souls fleeing Puto Viso. The invasion resulted in a war here on earth. Uranus lost. Zeus and the Space Alien Witches won. Iapetus had his world locked away from him.”

Nanny Ogleby said, “It does not make sense that there should be a marker with the name Pluto Viso on it at one of the outer gates to Iapetus.”

Dioson said, “None of this may be real.”

Hannibal said, “I fear it may be too real. And I hope you took note of how strong Victor is.”

“I did. I will no longer be his enemy. Victor, I bow to you.”

Hannibal said, “We bow to you.”

Victor was not sure how to take their words. He was not even sure he should trust their words.

Sam Bigalo’s mother, Samanjela, sat with Sam’s former wife Amelia who remained in the sleep. Samanjela stood from next to the grand bed where Amelia had begun to stir. Samajela walked to the window to look out. She held the golden curtain with her delicate hands and touched her face to it. She looked back to Amelia. “So many times do you stir and I think you are about to wake, but still you are in the sleep.”

Amelia screamed, “Victor. What is General Gorgan doing to you?”

Samanjela ran back to Amelia. “You spoke.” She touched her face. She touched her eyes. She rubbed her cheek. “Amelia?” There was no answer.

Samanjela called her son Sam who was currently in the Inner Witch City and had been visiting while in the city on business. “Son. Something is happening with Amelia. She spoke.”

Sam asked, “She spoke! Could you understand her? Or was it just the usual mumbles.”

“I clearly heard her say, ‘Victor. What is General Gorgan doing to you?'”

Sam turned to Alice Malokey and her husband Phil Clyde. “Mom say’s Amelia spoke and her words were ‘Victor, what is General Gorgan doing to you.'”

Alice asked, “Is there any way that she knows Victor Duddley?”

Sam said, “Not this life. I don’t think. Has he ever visited her in the Inner Witch City?”

Alice typed in some things on her computer. “The search turned up a sealed file which I can’t access.”

Phil asked, “Who sealed it?”

Alice said, “It is beyond weird. She pushed her computer screen around where Phil and Sam could see it.”

Phil cleared his throat. “That has to be some kind of joke. It can’t be real.”

Sam looked. “Uranus by power of the God Complex. The God complex sealed that record.”

Sam said, “Victor is not an angel. Is he? Could he? Surely not.”

Alice said, “I don’t know what Victor is, but I like him. I don’t want him hurt.” Alice called the Legman. “Yo, is your General Gorgan doing something to Victor Duddley?”

The Legman said, “I would not think so. Why would you think so to ask such a question.”

Alice asked, “Has Victor ever been to the Inner Witch City?”

The Legman said, “I don’t know. What is going on?”

Alice said, “I am not sure I can trust you so I am not going to tell you anything at the moment. Since you are protecting the son of a bitch, you check and see if General Gorgan is up to something.”

“I will do. I will call you back.”

They disconnect. Ten minutes later the Legman called Alice. “I can not locate General Gorgan. Our computer system lost track of him when his spaceship was flying over Hearthville.”

Alice asked, “What was he doing in Hearthville?”

“I don’t know. He may have put something in his log. My people are trying to access it right now.”

Alice said, “Okay. I will tell you that Victor, Deven, Leroy Bare, Constance Bare, and Dioson all vanished when a fight was happening on the boardwalk in Hearthville. We are not sure where they are. Then Amelia talked in her sleep and she said ‘Victor, what is General Gorgan doing to you.’ When I was dong a search to try to see if Victor has ever been to the Inner Witch City, a file came up but it was sealed and I can not access it.”

“Send it to me and maybe my people can access it.”

“I would think impossible but the file shows that it was sealed by Uranus by the power of the God Complex.”

“Oh fucking shit. My grandfather sealed the record. He is no longer in the sleep?”

“I don’t know. The signature on the file could have been altered and it may be a joke.”

“Send me the file.”

“I can’t trust you with the file.”

“Okay. Be that way. See where it gets you.” The Legman disconnected.
