Hearthville Serial: Book 4 – Chapter 12

Excerpt:

Madison wasn’t sure what to say. Sabian knew that Madison and Alice had their difficulties but still Alice was her ally. Madison felt she needed someone like Sabian as her ally as well in case her difficulties with Alice became too difficult.

Sabian was amused by Madison’s silence. “Oh such wheels must be turning in your head right now. There is your friendship with Alice. There is your father in a dungeon on Malokey. Then there is your rebel mother. And now here I stand. You want us to be friends but can you be friends with a monster. I would guess that is what you might be wondering.”

Madison snapped her fingers. She left Sabian’s spaceship and appeared in Sam’s spaceship. Madison said, “You can’t do this. Do not kill Billy?”

Chapter 12

Sabian Blackrock’s spaceship was hovering above earth’s atmosphere and watching Arthur Ramsey’s helicopter and Sam Bigalo’s spaceship. With a huge smile on his face Sabian Blackrock turned to Madison Grant. “Aren’t you glad that I zapped you here so that you can watch Billy Bingo die.”

Madison was a beautiful woman but had something of a strange look in her expression and her manners. She had blond hair. Her eyes had something of a vague oriental look; sort of, kind of, maybe. The look around her eyes depended on how she wore her makeup. Her seductive eyes were almost black but had a bright sparkle. Her breasts were ample enough to please a man who might notice. Her waist was just 24 inches. For the right man, she was plenty of woman; a very dangerous woman

Madison studied Sabian’s expression. He was a distinguished older looking man with brown hair that had hints of black and gray. His eyes were blue. Though older he was muscular and Madison considered that she’d had sex with much worse looking men than Sabian.

Sabian stood 6 foot 6 inches where Madison stood a mere 5 foot five inches. She felt short as she stood next to Sabian and that she was somewhat afraid of her situation caused her to feel even shorter.

Sabian said, “You should have contacted me about the situation.”

Madison wondered how Sabian had learned about the situation or her involvement in it through Dioson. “I did not know that the Legman or Billy Bingo were involved. I only knew that Dioson had got himself into a fix and wanted my help.”

“For whom is Dioson working?”

“I don’t know. I hope to learn his identity shortly as he comes to try to rescue Dioson. To be clear, I did not approve of Dioson kidnapping Paulstir McCluskey. And I will be equally clear, I agreed for Phil Clyde to be sent to the Outlands to try to cage the Legman. But I am not agreed to the murder of Billy Bingo.”

“I thought you wanted him dead.”

“I want General Gorgan caged. I wanted to use Billy Bingo against the Legman to that end. Why do you want Billy Bingo dead?”

Sabian stared at Madison. “Surely you know that the Legman and Billy Bingo are a threat to us way beyond this mess with General Gorgan.”

“Billy Bingo is a child.”

“He is the spawn of an ancient god that is being denied entrance to his own realm. He is not an ordinary rebel earth witch. I thought you understood that.”

“I think I understand that better than you do. I want to get out of here before all hell breaks loose.”

“We are safe. No one knows that we are here. Sam is the one the Legman will kill and that will be enough to turn Alice Malokey against the Legman.”

“I will not help someone who would help General Gorgan.”

“Sabian wants you dead. You do understand that, don’t you? He wants to turn Alice against the Legman and your death will do that. Alice told me that she told you about Amelia’s spawn so what you are doing does not even make any sense.”

“There is no way to know who that spawn is. General Gorgan does not know. And do you seriously think he wants to help Amelia?”

“I do.”

Leroy zapped himself an open bottle of whiskey. He took a big gulp. “Fucking hell,” he spoke out loud to himself. “I guess I had better go help Dioson.”

He snapped his fingers to transport himself. The only thing he accomplished was a pinging sound. “Shit.”

Leroy snapped his fingers again. This time he appeared in the hidden root cellar in the barn where his grandfather’s spaceship was hidden. Leroy took another drink from the bottle of whiskey. “I need to be good and drunk for this.” Using his magic voice Leroy called out to Alexandra McClure. “I need your help.”

“Who are you?”

“I am the one who paid you gold to help Dioson.”

“I will give you your money back. I am no match for the Legman and I don’t want to hurt Victor Duddley. I thought I did when Dioson told me that he was involved but I don’t. Just leave me alone.”

Leroy snapped his fingers. Alexandra appeared in the root cellar. She had been in the process of taking a hot bubble bath and she was still naked, covered in bubbles, in the tub when she appeared. Leroy had never met Alexandra before. She had been recommended by Dioson.

Leroy hiccuped and then belched. He took another drink from his bottle as he admired the beauty of Alexandra. He said, “Oh my. I think you might just become my new obsession.”

Alexadra smiled at Leroy. She thought he was cute but she knew he was drunk. As he knelt, close to her tub, trying to get a better look at her goodies she picked up bubbles in her two hands and blew them toward his face. “You naughty boy.” Leroy fell into the tub with Alexandra.

Leroy threw his feet and hands up into the air as he sank down into the tub. He joked as if he were in a Laurel and Hardy movie. “Here’s another nice mess you’ve gotten me into Ollie.”

Alexandra giggled. “When I got the gold and the message I figured you for some dark, sinister witch. I would have guessed you might have been Sabian Blackrock, but you are cute as a button.”

“My family hates Sabian Blackrock. Don’t mention is name. He had my grandfather burned alive. That asshole wanted mother and me to burn as well.”

“I see.”

“Through all of these bubbles, probably not, but it is enough for you to know that I really do need to help Dioson.”

“So what is your plan?”

“My plan is to take my grandfather’s spaceship up and hook the van to it with a guider laser and race him out of harms way.”

“That sounds like a reasonable plan. A lot better than having me try to kill the people chasing Dioson.”

“Yeah, that was not my plan. I like Victor.” Leroy winked a drunken wink and whispered, “I don’t want him dead.”

Alexandra agreed. “Neither do I. I am glad that we concur. So let us see if we can get Dioson out of his mess without murder and mayhem.”

Leroy smiled. “How did you know my middle name and why do you not want me involved?”

Alexandra smiled at Leroy. “How is it that we have never met before this?”

“I don’t get around much. Now let us dry ourselves off, get dry clothes, and get in my granddad’s spaceship and fly high. Let us make shit happen.”

“Let us do it.”

The helicopter continued spinning around. Arthur held tightly onto one harness while he tried to put on another harness.

Daniel realized that Nat was not going to be able to hold on to Billy much longer. Arthur was failing to put on a harness or to help Nat with Billy. Daniel looked around and peeped up to where Karl continued to try to pilot the plane. He noticed that Karl was wearing an extra large weaved belt that dangled down.

Daniel screamed to Karl. “Throw me your belt. Hurry.”

Karl quickly unfastened his belt and threw it toward Daniel but it fell a good distance in front of Daniel. Daniel unfastened his seatbelt. Holding on to the seat he stretched backwards to put his shoe on the belt. He scooted the belt with his shoe and then reached down to pick it up. He handed one end of the belt to Natalina. “Hold on to it for dear life.”

“Okay. I’ve got it.”

“Daniel tied the end of the belt to his leg and then crawled on the floor toward Nat and Author. Daniel screamed to Nat. “Do your best to move where I can reach your harness.”

Nat, with Billy in his arms, fought to settle back toward the floor. Arthur grabbed hold of Nat and helped to push him back toward Daniel. Daniel grabbed the harness and then grabbed Billy just as the helicopter threw them all up into the air and partially out the door of the helicopter. Natalina couldn’t hold on to the belt but Daniel had a tight grip on to Nat’s harness. Arthur held on to a different harness for dear life.

The helicopter was dropping. It was moving fast, toward the ground below.

The Legman walked toward an area of his spaceship where there were monitors. Dorian Dormark grabbed the Legman to pull him back away from the monitor area.

Dorian said, “Dioson’s van has vanished. We can’t get a traction on the van.”

“I want to see something. Move. Get the hell out of my way.”

Dorian did fake crying. “Well hurt my feelings.”

The Legman pushed Dorian out of his way. He walked to the monitors.

Without sympathy the astral body of Victor glanced at Dorian. He then walked with the Legman.

The Legman looked at the monitor with the helicopter. “Son of bitch. It is crashing. Get a traction beam on the helicopter. Do not let the helicopter crash.”

Then the Legman looked at some information on the computers. He turned and looked at Victor’s astral body. “Your body is not on the helicopter.”

George asked, “What does that mean? Am I not just astral projecting? Am I dead?”

The Legman said, “I don’t know what has happened.” The Legman screamed, “Where the hell is Victor’s body?”

Pam ran up. She looked at Dorian. Pam screamed, “Where the hell is Victor?”

Dorian lied, “The transfer seemed to work okay. He has to be on the helicopter.”

Pam looked at the computer readings. “He is not on the helicopter.”

The Legman said, “I know he is not on the helicopter. Where the freak is he?”

Dorian lied, “I do not know.”

The Legman screamed, “Whatever. Get the hell busy. Pam, stop the helicopter from crashing.”

Dorian put her hands in the way. “I will do it.”

The Legman zapped Dorian into a cage. “Pam. Do it. I’ve got to get to the helicopter.”

“Understood.”

The Legman tried to move from the otherworld so as to enter the body of his spawn, Billy. But even as powerful as he was, something was going wrong. He could not move into the physical world and into Billy’s body. There was pain and agony in the Legman’s voice. “Oh no.” He looked at Victor. “I am so sorry. We are in trouble. Serious trouble.”

***

As the helicopter was falling, Daniel lost hold of Billy. Nat jumped out of the helicopter after Billy but the harness on Nat made the jump short and Billy was out of reach. Billy plummeted toward the ground even as the helicopter stabilized.  For a second he stopped falling.  He stirred to almost wake.  Then Sam Bigalo fired a magical death ray that struck him between the eyes.  Dead, Billy fell the rest of the way, hitting into the ground.  Billy’s body fell into a baseball diamond located in the Hearthville Park.

From his spaceship, the Legman watched and screamed in horror. “They’ve killed my spawn. And where is his soul? Have they caged him? Have they caged my Billy?”

Pam hugged the Legman. “I don’t know.”

The helicopter landed in the park. Nat raced to the body of his cousin. Nat grabbed Billy into his arms. “You can’t be dead. This can’t be real. Why didn’t the Legman save you?”

Natalina raced to be with her son. Daniel ran with her from the helicopter. Then they both stopped as Daniel screamed in tears. “I tried to hold him. I tried. Oh my God.”

Natalina fell to her knees. She remembered Billy on his granddad’s farm. She remembered watching Billy crying over a baby goat that had died. And then now, there he lay dead. Natalina trembled. She moaned, “I should have not allowed the boys to ever get on that helicopter.”

Arthur and Karl walked up. Karl shook his head. “Did the Witches Council sanction this?”

Arthur said, “They are cold blooded bastards, but I don’t think they would have sanctioned this.” Arthur called Alice Malokey, “Get ready for war. Billy Bingo is laying on the ground dead.”

“Oh my God.” Arthur could hear Alice crying. She struggled to get the words out. “Do you know if someone has caged him?”

“I don’t know.”

On Sam’s spaceship, Madison looked through the monitors. She saw what was happening. “Well, Sam you’ve done it. You have killed Billy Bingo. What if that was your son laying on the ground? What if that was your son? You son of bitch.”

“Billy Bingo was a threat.”

From his spaceship, Sabian Black rocked watched what was happening on the ground. “Now Victor my man, may you lead me to the time portal. Lead me to that goto statement. Hell yeah.” Sabian quoted George Peppard as Hannibal Smith on the A-Team. “I love it when a plan comes together.”
