Hearthville Serial: Book 5 – Chapter 17

4/18/2020 – I will again begin posting the Hearthville Serial in May. Although it ends with a cliffhanger this will be the last Chapter of Book 5 and in May I will begin Book 6. With Book 6 I will be switching to present tense, instead of past tense. I realize some readers do not like present tense but in present tense I am more able to stay in visual mode and although I am prone to even more errors in that mode, I write faster. Also, in present tense my focus remains more on the story and it maintains my interest better than past tense. Even though I am not switching to script form, present tense is more similar to writing a script.

Excerpt:

Victor said, “It does not matter. So you are the one who brought us to Puto Viso? If not to have Belial cage us, then why?”

General Gorgan said, “There is a General I want freed from her cage. I know you are smart. I know all of you are capable. When the vortex opened, I had sudden brilliant idea. That is what I thought but now I know better. I am sorry. Let me get all of you back to earth before disaster falls.”

Victor looked at the fighting spaceships that had gathered above them. “Disaster has already fallen. Our only hope is to get to the caves.”

General Gorgan said, “They can’t see you. They can’t see my spaceship. Get in my spaceship and we will get out of here.”

Victor said, “I don’t trust you.”

General Gorgan said, “I am now working with the Legman on earth.”

“Just because he has trust in you does not mean that I should.”

The Legman and Pam Albright found the data in the system that revealed what General Gorgan had done. In disbelief the Legman silently stared at the data and then he screamed, “Son of a Bitch. Why on earth would he do that?”

Pam Albright said, “I don’t know. But look here.” Pam pointed to the data. “Victor and the others are outside of the gates of Iapetus from the Pluto Viso entry point.” Then she pointed to another data set. “General Gorgan and Dorian Dormark are at the abandoned Space Station RK7 that is positioned in Realm BQ7. I am pretty sure I can establish communications with the Space Station on BQ7 but understand it is not like I can do it yesterday. It is going to take me some time.”

The Legman said, “Okay.” He established communication with Alice Malokey. “I am sorry I was rude earlier. We have a problem.”

Alice Malokey said, “Okay. Apology accepted. How bad is the situation?”

“Victor and the others are on Pluto Viso.”

“Are you fucking kidding me?”

“I wish. I am not going to tell you where General Gorgan is but though Pam Albright tells me it is going to take her some time, I should be able to establish communication with him.”

“So he is not on Puto Viso?”

“No. But neither is he on earth. He is the one who put them on Pluto Viso but I have not talked with him and I do not know why he did what he did.”

“Do you know where on Pluto Viso they are? Are they caged?”

Pam Albright said, “I don’t mean to be rude but just tell her where they are.”

The Legman gave Pam a look. “Okay. Alright. They are outside the outer gate to the first level of Iapetus from the Pluto Viso side. Honest to God, I did not do this.”

Alice Malokey said, “You have been protecting General Gorgan.”

“I know, but he did this on his own and I do not know why. But I will tell you this, I will get them back to earth if I have to go to Pluto Viso myself.”

Alice Malokey took a deep breath. “Well, for God’s sake do everything possible to make sure the Witches Council does not find out what is going on. They will think you are trying to break the locks to Iapetus.”

“To be clear, if I could then I would. I want my realm back but General Gorgan did this on his own.”

General Roxy cried, “He gave up heaven for Jossette and me.”

Naked, General Roxy jumped from her bed and climbed up a ladder to a loft area. She climbed into the loft and went to a trunk and popped it open. Sometimes when she opened the trunk there would be letters in the trunk. Sometimes when she opened the trunk it was empty. That is the way the magical computerized cage worked. This moment, the trunk was empty. Roxy’s heart sank.

General Roxy screamed, “Son of a bitch.”

Feeling tired and weak, General Roxy climbed back down the ladder from the loft. She bit at her lip as she fell back into her bed. “Amelo, or Victor, whatever the name you are the same. I think. But all these years, I guess. I think. Maybe not.”

“Amelo, I should have known that you once sat at God’s table. But you never told me. And I once sat at the devil’s table. I guess from the start we were doomed. But how doomed. Will I ever escape this fucking cage?”

General Roxy stared at the monitor where the fighter spaceship hovered right at Victor and the others.

General Gorgan beamed himself from the fighter spaceship. He could see Victor and the others. He said, “I am sorry that I put you all in danger. What I did was insane. Please understand, I had my reasons for what I did but I am now convinced I should not continue with my plan.”

Victor said, “You are Belial’s General. General Gorgan, you work for him. What game is this that you play? Reasons? You want Belial to cage us.”

“You know me?”

“I do.” Victor hesitated. “You are an evil SOB.”

General Gorgan stared at Victor. He knew Victor from planet earth but who would Victor be that would know him as General Gorgan and his past with Belial. “I know you as Victor from earth but I don’t know you as someone who would know me.”

While General Gorgan worked to cajole Victor and the others, Dorian Dormark worked frantically to set things up to be able to beam Victor and the others aboard the spaceship, regardless of whether they wanted to be beamed aboard or not. With the magic spell Victor had put in place she was not sure her settings would work. Hell, it was even possible she might break both Victor’s spell and General Gorgan’s spell and make them all visible to the enemy.

Dorian Dormark put her index finger on the red enter key. A yellow caution light flashed on the keyboard to let her know the sequence was in place and was waiting for the final order. In less than a minute the yellow light would turn red to let her know the sequence would no longer work. But it never flashed a green light to let her know for sure the sequence would work.

Dorian Dormark moaned, “Oh fuck. What should I do? If I accidentally reveal their location they and I are as good as caged. Son of a bitch.”

The yellow light turned red. Dorian Dormark shook her head. She opened a hatch to the spaceship where the spaceship might be boarded manually. She walked through the hatch and took a few steps onto the ramp that was still in the process of sliding out. She spoke, “Please. Get into the spaceship. We need to get out of here. We need to get back to earth.”

Constance said, “Okay, I know Dorian. She works for the Legman. Let us get on the spaceship.”

Victor said, “General Gorgan is the reason General Roxy is in a cage. He betrayed her.”

Deven said, “General Roxy tried to kill you. We saw your memory.”

Victor said, “I don’t know. I don’t know anything. This is a weird dream. I want to wake. I am ready to wake up.”

General Gorgan scratched his head. He wasn’t sure what to say to that.

Dorian smiled. “I imagine this does feel like a dream. But I tell you what. Let us get you back to earth and back to your bed. And then you can wake and this will seem like a dream. But please let us get you off of Pluto Viso.”

Leroy said, “Victor, do you think we stand a chance of getting back to earth on our own.”

Victor said, “If we end up in a cage, it will be over. We will be over. General Gorgan locked Amelia in a cage and she fell into a sleep. She continues to sleep. She can’t wake. You might not think of that as death but it is a type of death.”

General Gorgan said, “I do not accept that. Amelia will not sleep for eternity. We will find a way to wake her from her sleep.”

Victor asked, “Do you really want her to wake?”

General Gorgan said, “I do. And I want General Roxy freed. I want to undo the damage that I have done. That is the truth. But right now, I want to undo this. I want to get you all off of Pluto Viso because this was a really bad idea.”

Victor said, “Okay.”

Dorian said, “Okay. Step to it. All of you have to do is get the hell in the spaceship just as quickly as you can. Hurry.”

Everyone boarded the spaceship including the ghosts Nanny Ogleby and Hannibal Claws.
