Hearthville Serial: Book 4 – Chapter 2

Excerpt:

“Strange. So you said that Deven killed Hannibal who killed Donny. What about Dioson?”

“He got away.”

“Shit. So the question is, were they working for the Council or were they free lancing for someone else.”

“What Council?”

George said, “Never mind.”

“Sure. You do realize that you are seriously pissing me off by not explaining stuff to me but giving me hints.”

Chapter 2

Victor’s cellphone began to ring. He saw the number belonged to Tabitha Angster. Victor looked at the number and his vision began to blur. He felt a slight pain between his eyes. Then his alter personality George came out.

George answered the phone. “Hello Tabitha, this is George.”

“Thank goodness. I was afraid Victor might answer.”

“He almost did. You do know he has crush on you. He wants to ask you out on a date.”

Tabitha said, “I hope he does ask me out.”

“I do not want you to date him.”

“It would help the two of us to be closer. But let me make clear, I like Victor. I liked him before you ever existed. And in truth, there is a part of me that likes you because I know there is a part of you that is Victor.”

George hung up on Tabitha. “Seriously. Bitch. That is like telling me you would like to fuck Stewart because he reminds you of me. I don’t think so.”

The phone began to ring. George saw that it was Tabitha calling back. He answered. He said, “I am sorry.”

“You should be. But listen, Victor wanting to date me is not the reason I called. There was a shootout at Steed’s trailer. Deven killed the man who killed Donny.”

“What the fuck? Neither Victor nor me have heard anything about that.”

“They want to keep it quiet, but I thought you should know.”

“Thanks. So Hannibal Claws was killed. That is a good thing. But it is confusing. Why was he going after Steed?”

“Wait. You know the name of the man who killed Donny. I don’t think even Arthur knows the name. How do you know the name?”

“There are things I can’t talk about. I will tell you that this world is not what you think it is.”

“You asshole, don’t change the subject. You knew who killed Donny and you didn’t tell anyone.”

“My job is to protect Victor.”

“You can talk to me. I know that when Arthur found Victor in the boot of the car, Victor was almost dead. I know the ordeal of what Victor went through is what created you. You told me that. You can tell me more. I think I have proven that you can trust me.”

“I lied. Victor was not almost dead. He was dead.”

“That is not possible. Wait. You mean like psychologically. The original Victor died mentally and that created you and a new Victor.”

“Yeah. Sure. That is what I mean.” George rolled his eyes and stared at the phone. He thought to himself, “And you seriously want me to tell you more. Like you would believe any of it.”

There was silence.

Tabitha asked, “How do you know the name of the man who killed Donny?”

“You are better off not knowing. Does Arthur have any idea of why the man who killed Donny went after Steed and Deven?”

“I don’t think so. I do know he is worried.”

“Of course. I am also.”

“Why?”

“Steed is dating Victor’s sister Judy. And Deven has become friends with Victor. Victor and Judy could be in danger. Can you tell me more about what happened?”

“There were two men. They were pretending to be Keith Racoon Jr. and Jess something or the other.”

“Jess Smith. That would probably be Dioson Claws. He is the brother of Hannibal. Dioson and Hannibal almost always hunted together.”

“Wait. What? You and Victor and Donny knew them from hunting? Donny was killed in New York City. You don’t hunt deer in New York City.”

“Donny was killed in New York and no, we didn’t go hunting with Dioson and Hannibal. We were the hunted.”

Tabitha moaned. “I am so confused. Why were they hunting Victor and Donny?”

“It is not important. You were saying that Hannibal and Dioson were pretending to be Keith Racoon Jr. and Jess Smith.”

“Right. They were in the Purple Bird Billiard Club pretending to be looking for Paulstir McCluskey for Bank Robbery. Steed pulled them up on his father’s computer system but the computer identified them wrong. Steed thought he had them taken care of but then they broke into Steed’s trailer.”

“Sorry. I don’t mean to piss you off but I need to know stuff but without telling you stuff.”

“Yeah. But I am curious. I want to know what you know.”

“Sorry. You are better off not knowing. Anyway. Do you know Paulster McCluskey?”

“He visits Arthur some at the mansion. He seems nice enough but I have never really gotten to know him.”

“He is not totally nice but I like him okay. I think I need to talk to him. But Victor is knocking on the door and wanting to get back out. I guess I better let you go. Thanks for telling me what is going on.”

“I have no clue what is going on. But sure. I will talk to you later.”

George whispered, “Victor, stop trying to wake. Keep dreaming about having sex with Tabitha.” George look down at his erection and laughed.

George pulled a tight pair of underwear from the dresser drawer. He then pulled some baggy orange shorts from a different drawer. He then pulled a lime green muscle shirt from a different drawer and got dressed. He then looked down to check to see that his erection was not obvious.

George put his billfold in his pocket. He pulled his keys and knife from the dresser and shoved them in his pocket. He then put Victor’s phone in his pocket. He then looked in the mirror. “You sexy devil you.”

George rushed down stairs, through the kitchen, and out the backdoor. He rushed across the back deck, down the steps and to the car he shared with his other personality, Victor. He crawled into the orange mustang and cranked it up. He quickly sped out of the yard.

George clicked on a disguised icon that had the title Bible Verse Notes. He clicked the icon and opened up the aeiouHookup App. “Let me see, what name did Paulstir McCluskey use. Shit. I can’t remember.” George peeped in on Victor’s dream. “Man, you are cuddled with Tabitha on the couch. Okay. If that floats your boat.”

Trying to think of Paulster McClukey’s name on aeiouHookup, George drove a bit. “Fuck. Sure. Gosh. Dang my brain. I am pretty sure that is the right name.” George clicked the letter b and then the letter e.” Pictures of women showed on the screen. Then George screamed, “Oh damn, I am not in the gay section.” George clicked to go to the gay section of the app. Then he clicked the letter b and then the letter e. Picture of men showed on the screen. He didn’t see a picture of Paulstir McCluskey. “Oh crap. I must not have remembered right.”

A song came on the radio which was kind of odd because George had not turned the radio on. The song that began to play was, “Phil Collins – In the Air Tonight.”

George glanced in the rear view mirror and saw a man seated in the backseat. But the vision was just for a moment and the vision vanished. George moaned, “Oh God. Has the Witches Council figured out what Arthur did?” George began to tremble. Tears began to stream down his cheek. “Please don’t kill Victor. He didn’t deserve what happened to him. He does not deserve to die.” George took a deep breath. “Again.”

George whirled his mustang around. “I’ve got to talk to Arthur. I’ve got to talk to him.”

George heard a whisper from the backseat. “Go to Donnie’s grave.”

“Who are you?”

There was no answer.

“Are you a friend or enemy?”

There was no answer.

The music on the radio went silent except for the slight sound of static.
