Hearthville Serial: Book 5 – Chapter 3

Excerpt:

Judy smiled. She liked the compliment for both herself and Deven. Then she said, “Victor is that your problem? Is it that you can’t find a girl like Jossette who is your intellectual equal?”

Victor stood uncomfortably silent.

Deven jumped in to change the subject. He said, “God, I miss Trish so much.”

Judy gave up on on waiting for Victor to answer. She said to Deven, “Trish Ireland was not right for you, but I am sorry that Steed did what he did. He shouldn’t have done that but to be honest I may have given him the idea. Are you angry at me?”

“No.”

Victor asked, “What did Steed do?”

Chapter 3

Although many people knew that Steed Ramsey is the son of Arthur Ramsey, Judy still did not know. She did not know that she is dating the son of a gangster. George knew but Victor did not have a clue. Victor barely even remembered his friend Mark Ramsey and did not realize that Mark and Steed are one and the same.

In his bedroom Victor was seated at his desk. He sat at his desktop computer working on math equations and a javascript routine for a device that he was working on that was still in its early stages. Victor yawned.

Judy knocked on the door to Victor’s bedroom and then she spoke into the door with her face pressed into it. “Victor I would like for you to go on a double date with Steed and myself.”

George remembered Victor and Jossette going on double dates with Mark and Mark’s then girlfriend Rita Angster. George tried to take over to deflect the situation away from Judy’s plan but Victor would not let George take over. Victor stood from his desk. He stretched. He yawned.

“Victor, please do not pretend you are not hearing me. I know that you are in there.”

Excerpt:

Leroy knocked on the door to the Duddley home. Victor answered the door. Victor said, “Hey Leroy. Come on in.”

Leroy said, “On bitchute, I saw the video of your saving Billy Bingo. Amazing.” Leroy walked in and walked over to the couch and sat down.

George took over from Victor.

Leroy said, “I need help.”

George asked, “What kind of help.”

“First. You do know that you are a witch. Right?”

Chapter 2

Steed Ramsey sat with his father Arthur Ramsey at the Purple Bird Billiard Club. Steed said, “So we still don’t know why Dioson attacked Deven and me. We don’t know why he kidnapped Paulster McCluskey.”

Arthur took a drink of his beer and ate a pretzel. “No.”

Leroy Bare walked into the pool hall. When he saw Arthur Ramsey he had the strong urge to turn around and walk out but he did not. He threw up his hand to Deven and said, “My usual.”

Deven called back, “Sexually harassing me is not on the menu.”

Leroy laughed as he invited himself to sit down at the table with Arthur and Steed. Leroy said, “A beer and a ham sandwich.”

Deven said, “Sure.”

Leroy looked at Arthur. “You know my mom is angry with Rachel.”

Excerpt:

Stewart plopped down in the black oversized recliner in the room and flipped on the TV to catch the sports news. On television was a closeup of Victor hanging on to one of the skids of the helicopter with one hand and holding onto Billy Bingo with the other hand.

Stewart and Judy stared at the TV and then looked at Victor. They called, “Mom. You need to see this on TV.”

Ellen came in to see what they were watching.

The video footage showed Victor roll his body upon the skid and pull Billy upon the skid with him. Victor made it look almost easy but the danger they were in was obvious. Victor, all so carefully, moved to lift Billy where he could be pulled back into the helicopter by Arthur and Daniel. Victor then climbed up into the helicopter.

Chapter 1

Victor arrived home in his red mustang. Feeling tired, all so tired, he crawled out of his car. He felt confused. He looked at his home and he looked at his watch. “I didn’t call them. I should have found some way to call them so they wouldn’t have worried that I didn’t come home last night.”

George whispered, “Don’t worry about it.”

Victor walked upon the porch of his home. He checked to see if the door was locked. It wasn’t. He opened the door and walked inside. His sister Judy was sitting on the couch. He could see his mom through the door in the kitchen.

Victor closed the door and his sister Judy looked at him. His mom peeped out of the kitchen. His mom said, “You didn’t come home last night. You didn’t call.”

Victor said, “I am sorry.” Victor tried to think of something to explain his not calling but nothing came to his mind. George stepped in. “I was in Atlanta on business. Time got away from me. I am sorry that I didn’t call.”

His mom said, “It is okay. I know you are grown. You don’t have to call.”

Judy mouthed. “She and dad were were worried. You are a fucking asshole for not calling.”

Victor nodded. He repeated, “I am sorry.”

Judy said, “You should be.”

Stewart came into the room. “Where were you? Were you too busy getting laid to call to let mom know that you are okay.”

Victor said, “No. Just Atlanta. Business.”

Ellen said, “It is okay. You two stop being mean to Victor.” She stepped back into the kitchen.

Victor, all so carefully, moved to lift Billy where he could be pulled back into the helicopter by Arthur and Daniel. Victor then climbed up into the helicopter.

A woman on TV said, “Hearthville’s very own Victor Duddley saved the life of Billy Bingo after the helicopter they were in began to whirl out of control and Billy was thrown from the helicopter. The acrobatic agility of Victor in saving the life of Billy Bingo was truly amazing. Apparently Victor’s brother Stewart Duddley is not the only athlete in the family. It is not known what caused the helicopter owned by the gangster, Arthur Ramsey, to spin out of control and nearly crash.”

Judy trembled as she watched them showing the footage again. She rose from the couch, shaking. She slowly moved with her arms outreached. She wrapped her arms tightly around Victor. “I am sorry I was being mean to you. But why weren’t you going to tell us.”

Hearthville Serial: Book 4 – Chapter 16

Excerpt:

Quentin looked at Maureen and Bess. “So Victor could use the time portal to undo all this mess?”

The Legman said, “But if he were to try to do that, that would reveal to Sabian what Sabian wants to know.”

Quentin said, “Or not. Billy’s death needs to be undone. That is imperative.”

The Legman said, “Of course I don’t argue against you. Billy is my spawn. But Sabian is dangerous. In a batman movie, he would be the ultimate villain.”

Chapter 16

Everyone had gathered inside of the room where Maureen and Bess Bingo slept. There was anxiety about and danger ahead. The fear being felt in Mayor Bare’s mansion was a justified fear.

The ghosts of Billy Bingo and Dexter Jenkins felt an etheric wind begin to blow. Dexter heard the nervous and ghostly voice of Nanny Ogleby calling. “Dexter. Dexter. There is trouble coming. I’d feel better if you would hide with me.”

Dexter whispered, “We need to go to her. We need to hide. I can feel the Hunters about. They are going to come to cage you.”

Billy stared at his mom and his sister sleeping. “Will they be okay?”

“If I knew how to hide them I would.”

Myrtle whispered to Quentin who stood at her side. “I feel a terrible attack is coming our way. This is not good. Everyone in this house is in danger.”

Quentin said, “I feel it also. I think I have the magic to snap them to my spaceship.” Quentin turned to Mayor Hollis Bare who stood looking out the window. “Mayor Hollis, you should come to take refuge in my spacecraft also.”

Mayor Hollis answered, “Okay. But if you feel your magic pinging, transport Bess and Maureen first.”

The ghost of Nanny Ogleby appeared next to Dexter. She looked at Billy. She moaned, “Oh God. Billy Bingo is the one who the Hunters are in search.”

Dexter said, “We have to hide him.”

Nanny Ogleby used her energy to appear to Quentin. “Dexter and Billy are in this room and we need your help. The Hunters are coming. They are wanting to cage Billy.”

Chapter 15

Quentin Darko sat with Mayor Hollis Bare in an upstairs sitting room. They drank brandy in front of a lit fireplace though it was not really cold enough outside for a fire. Across the hall from the sitting room Myrtle Claven sat watch in the bedroom that had been prepared for Maureen and Bess Bingo. Maureen and Bess lay in bed, side by side, with their eyes wide open.

Bess said, “Mom, I want to be strong for you.”

“Dear, I know.”

“We need to call father. He needs to be told.”

“He is out in the Gulf of Mexico working on the oil platform. I can’t tell him this news by phone. I will need to find some excuse to either fly to him or to have him fly home. I must tell him in person.”

Myrtle said, “I’ve spoken to David Jenkins. I hope that is okay. He owns the business that employs your husband Frank. He is making arrangements to get Frank home.”

“You know, I had Billy at the same time David’s wife Amberline had her baby. Her baby died and she died after childbirth. And David was going to kill himself after losing them. Frank stopped him from killing himself.”

Bess said, “It was in the waiting room that night that I met Dirk Jenkins. He is a strange boy.”

Maureen said, “Honey, we are all strange. That is what makes us normal.”

“So my being normal is what makes me strange. But Billy wasn’t normal. He had such ways. There were times I felt as though I didn’t really know him. That we were not closer was my fault.”

Myrtle Claven smiled. “My children are odd but I do love them.”

Bess said, “I loved Billy. I love Billy. I will always love Billy.”

Maureen spoke to Myrtle. “So are you close to David Jenkins.”

“Not so close but I adored his wife Amberline. My Linda thought of her as an older sister.”

Maureen asked, “So do you know?”

Myrtle said, “I know.”

Bess asked, “Know what?”

Maureen said, “It is not so important.”

Myrtle said, “It is hard to say what draws people together and drives them apart. Amberline was a wild one. Oversexed. But she could love. She did love. She didn’t mean to hurt the people she hurt.”

Maureen nodded. “I know. Frank and I both went to her funeral. We both cried right along with David. I didn’t hate her.”

Myrtle said, “You are a good woman.”

Quentin and Mayor Hollis listened to the conversation from the bedroom. Quentin said, “Maureen is a good woman. Frank should treat her better.”

Myrtle stepped into the sitting room and closed the door and cast a slight spell to buffer the sound. She whispered, “They have finally closed their eyes. They are resting.”

Mayor Hollis Bare said, “Good.” He cleared his throat. He said, “I don’t know Frank well. How is it that he and Maureen would have a son who is the spawn of Iapetus?

Quentin said, “I don’t know.”

Myrtle said, “Billy Bingo’s death is strange business. The Witches Council will have some explaining to do.”

Mayor Hollis said, “I’ve thought about that. Witches who have their power do not die easily. I would guess the spawn of a god would die even less easily. How could Sam Bigalo target that magical deathray so easily? Was there no force to stop him? “

Quentin said, “But Amerberline died and her baby died. It happens. Sometimes magic pings. And Billy might not have even had any magic to ping.”

Mayor Hollis spoke direct. “Are Amberline and her baby really dead?”

“I don’t know. If she faked her death, she has not contacted me.”

Myrtle said, “Or me.”

Mayor Hollis said, “I know there were those on the Witches Council who wanted her dead and they would have had the power to kill her, and I guess her baby.”

Quentin knew what Mayor Hollis was trying to ask without asking. Quentin said, “I honestly do not know if Amberline’s baby was switched with Maureen’s baby or not. If he is Amberline’s baby, he would have magic power in his own right.”

Myrtle said, “If there was a switching that would make him your nephew.”

Quentin said, “And I did not do enough to protect him!”

Myrtle said, “I didn’t mean to say that. If the Witches Council thought that Billy Bingo was the son of Amberline Darko, they would have killed him.”

Quentin said, “I would not want to hurt Maureen but God I would love to give him a funeral fitting for a Darko. I would like such a huge gathering that it would scare the Witches Council shitless.” Quentin threw his glass into the fireplace. “But we can’t do it.”

***

The ghost of Billy Bingo cuddled up on the foot of the bed where his mom and sister were now sleeping. Billy almost fell asleep when he felt someone poking him. He looked up to see a boy who appeared to be around his age.

“Hey Billy. My name is Dexter. I am Dexter Jenkins. I am your stepbrother.”

Billy said, “I didn’t know that I had a stepbrother.”

Dexter said, “Yeah, Frank is a real piece of work.”

Billy said, “I love my father.”

Dexter said, “Sure. Anyway, come with me.”

“I don’t think so. You could be telling me anything. I am staying right here with my mom and my sister.”

Dexter asked, “You do know that you are dead, don’t you?”

“I guess.”

“No guessing. You are dead. Now look. I’ve come up with this plan and I need your help with it.”

“I don’t know. I feel like my mom and my sister need me to be here with them.”

“Look. I don’t want to scare you. I am doing my best not to do that. But if you stay here you run the risk of being caged by the Witches Council. We need to get you out of here.”

“Where do you want us to go? And by the way, how do I know that you are not leading me into a trap?”

“It is good that you are being cautious. I understand that. But you are in danger here.”

***

Alice stood in the dungeon with Victor. Victor/George had entered his body after he and Alice had arrived in the dungeon.

Alice screamed. “Sabian. If you are listening or watching, don’t you dare try to take him.”

George felt a rumble inside of his head. That was the feeling he sometimes would get when Victor was trying to wake up and take back control. George thought, “Please stay asleep.”

A voice came from Victor’s mouth that wasn’t George and wasn’t Victor. “I must wake. I must wake up. Please help me to wake.”

Alice called to Sam. “Victor has returned to his body. We are in a dungeon. Something weird is happening. A woman’s voice came out of Victor’s mouth.

Sam said, “Get him out of the dungeon. Bring him to where I am and then we will get the hell off this spaceship.”

Alice tried to transport herself and Victor. Her magic pinged. Alice said, “My magic pinged. Sabian, you release us.”

There was laughter.

Sam said, “Okay, let me see if I can unlock the cage.” Sam caused a digital tool to appear that looked something like a tablet computer. He punched in some numbers. “Son of a bitch. I can’t even locate the cage.”

There was more laughter.

Sam said, “I need help.” Sam called to the Legman. “Legman, Alice and Victor are trapped in a cage. Can you locate the cage on this spaceship?”

The Legman said, “I have the coordinates of the spaceship. I am doing a scan. Oh fuck.”

“What?”

“There are five spaceships getting in position to attack me. I’ve got to get back to my smaller realm in the Outlands.”

“Damn. I understand. Get the hell out of there.”

Sam watched on the monitor as the Legman’s spaceship evaded the five ships that had been sent by the Witches Council to either force the Legman back into the Outlands or to arrest him.  Sam maneuvered his spaceship away as he hoped to stay out of their crosshairs. So far though, it didn’t seem they were paying much attention to him on Sabian Blackrock’s spaceship.

Alice called out to Sam. “What are you doing Sam? I seriously do not like being stuck in this cage.”

I am thinking.” Sam called to Alice’s husband, Phil Clyde. “Phil I’ve got a problem.”

Phil said, “Man. You killed Billy Bingo. I hate your fucking guts right now.”

Sam said, “Understood. But you love Alice. Sabian Blackrock has her and Victor Duddley caged.”

“You can’t be serious. Sabian Blackrock could not be that crazy.”

“He wants Victor to show him where a time portal is and how to go through it.”

“Who in the hell is Victor Duddley and how would he have that kind of information?”

“I don’t have time to write a book. I need you to get your ass to this spaceship, Sabian Blackrock’s spaceship, and help me to find the cage where Victor and Alice are locked and then help me break them out of it. The Witches Council have five spaceships  in this area in pursuit of the Legman.”

“Let me call my mom. She is better in these kind of situation than I am. Also she has access to better tools.”

“Mom, this is Phil. Sabian Blackrock has Alice in a cage.”

Phil’s mom, Miss Clyde laughed. “Good, maybe he will send the bitch back to Malokey.”

“Mom, please do not be that way. You know that I love her.”

“She cheats on you.”

“Well, I cheat on her. That does not mean that we do not love one another. Are you going to help me?”

“Sure. What the hell. So do you have an idea of where we should start searching for the cage.”

Sam said, “I will send you the coordinates of this spaceship. I am fairly certain that the cage is located somewhere here.”

Miss Clyde said, “Excuse me. I don’t want to have anything to do with Sam Bigalo.”

Sam said, “Ruby Clyde. You know that you love me.”

Miss Clyde said, “Sam, at this point anyone who helps you might end up in a cage themselves. I’d just as soon not end up in a cage with my daughter-in-law.”

“I understand but no, there is no reason you should end up in a cage for helping Alice and Victor to free themselves from Sabian Blackrock’s trap. Here are the coordinates of the spaceship.”

Miss Clyde said, “I’ve got them. You do realize there are five spaceships moving in on you. Get your sorry ass into the Outlands.”

“Shit. Those are five different ships from the ones that were after the Legman.”

Miss Clyde said, “Yeah. Fuck. The Witches Council have ten ships on the move. Son of a bitch. Look Sam. God bless my soul but I do love you like a son. You have to go into hypermode and get to the outlands. That is your only chance.”

“That is forbidden.”

“Yeah, well, do you want to be arrested by the Witches Council?”

“Shit. No. Okay. I am on the move. I will contact you when I can.”

Phil said, “Mom. Will you give me backup if I go into the Outlands.”

“Go on. Get to it. I’d think less of you if you didn’t want to help your friend and wife. This is such a fucking mess. And I was going to spend the day on the lake fishing and getting drunk with Gus.”

Phil laughed. “I love you mom.”

“I love you too son. And Sam. Protect your sorry ass because I love you also.”

Sam screamed as he moved to evade the spaceships that were in pursuit of him. “Back at you, I will do my best.”

Excerpt:

Dorian said, “And from what we saw, Victor’s higher self may be like Billy Bingo’s higher self.”

Alice said, “Wait. What?”

The Legman said, “Sabian Blackrock may have unknowingly transported a god into his spaceship. You need to know with what you are dealing.”

Alice asked, “But with whom will we be dealing?”

The Legman said, “I don’t know. And he could just be a very powerful witch, but the energy reading was at that level that suggests a god.”

Chapter 14

Sam Bigalo’s mother, Samanjela Bigalo, attended her garden in the Inner Witch City that was not a city of the living but a city of the dead. It was where many upper class witches dwelled who were between lives. These were the witches who were space aliens or worked with the space alien witches. They were witches who did not have to dwell in the honey combs or lower realms or the outlands.

Souls tend to take on the relationships they’ve enjoyed in their various lives and their between lives. Souls tend to form clans and communities similar as in the world of the living. Some communities do try to discourage souls from maintaining the roles they had in the world of the living but then some souls shun those communities as being run by assholes.

A young man ran up to Samanjela Bigalo. “I just heard on my scanner that Sam has killed Billy Bingo, the spawn of Iapetus. I could not get much information on whether Billy has been caged or not. So far the Witches Council has not put a price on his head.”

Chapter 13

Suddenly, the ghost of Billy Bingo found himself standing in the library of the Bare Mansion. Billy knew something wasn’t right. He heard a voice calling to him. It was a soft, haunting voice. “Billy, Billy.”

And there was the sound from the core of the earth that sounded like trumpets. And there was a guitar sound sound coming from the light that shined through a window. The music was odd. The haunting voice was odd. Billy felt odd.

Billy’s mom Maureen came through a door into the library. She put a book on the shelf. She pulled another book off the shelf. Holding the book she paced one way and then another.

Mayor Hollis Bare came into the library. He said, “We will hear from them.”

Billy walked to stand in front of a large, body length, mirror. The mirror was in a black frame and had something of an antique look. It stood large next to the partially opened french doors. Every other square glass in the doors was stained glass. Those squares were painted in smeared looking red and blue colors with a ghostly shadow of black. The other square glasses in the doors were clear. There was black and white checked curtains, outlined in gold, blowing at the doors.

Billy’s ghost stood at the mirror and with the curtains at times blowing through him. Billy touched the mirror as though to touch his own face. Then he turned and looked at his mom who was looking at the mirror.

“Oh my God,” Maureen moaned. “I saw Billy in the mirror. Something is not right. I feel it in my bones. I feel it. I know it. I can’t stand it.” Maureen dialed her phone. “Damn it. Answer Natalina. Answer. Answer your damn phone.”

Natalina answered but she didn’t say anything. Maureen could hear Daniel crying. She could hear Nat crying. Maureen screamed into the phone. “Why are people crying?” There was silence. “Answer! damn it!”

Natalina said, “There was an accident. I can’t talk. I can’t.”

Maureen turned and screamed at Hollis. “She can’t talk.”

Arthur took the phone. “This is Arthur Ramsey. With whom am I speaking?”

“Maureen Bingo. Is my Billy okay?”

“Is there someone there with you?”

“Mayor Hollis Bare is with me.”

Arthur called to Daniel. “Come talk to your father.”

Maureen said, “No. You talk to me. Tell me that my baby is okay.”

Arthur said, “She is not going to give the phone to Hollis.”

Daniel called his dad. “Hey dad.”

“What is going on?”

“Something happened to the helicopter. It started spinning round and round. It almost crashed. Billy was not in a seat or harnessed. Billy is dead.”

Hollis took several deep breaths. He dropped his phone. He braced himself to stop from falling in a faint. Then he crumpled to his knees. He squalled. “No.”

Bess walked into the room. “What is happening?”

Hollis reached up toward the ceiling and tried to talk but he could not talk. Maureen cried. “I think Billy is dead.”

“No. That is not possible.”

Maureen remembered her words when she was talking to Daniel. “Billy is a good runner. Just let him run with you to the cave. He will be okay. If Nat is in danger, you need to get to him.”

Hollis said, “Maureen. I don’t know what to say. Those boys should never have gotten on that helicopter.”

Bess asked, “What happened?”

Hollis picked up his phone and stood from the floor. He asked Daniel, “Where do I need to get Maureen and Bess?”

Daniel said, “His body will be taken to the Hearthville Hospital. I will make sure that Billy is not taken directly to the Morgue in the hospital.”

Hollis said, “Okay. Son. Don’t blame yourself.”

“Oh. I do. I totally do. This is bad.” Daniel whispered into the phone. “Do you believe in witches?”

Daniel looked to Natalina. He asked Natalina, “Does Maureen comprehend who her son is?”

Natalina answered, “The Legman. No. I am pretty sure that she does not know.”

Daniel said, “Natalina says no.”

Hollis looked at Maureen and Bess. “Put Arthur on the phone.” He walked outside of the library hoping to be where Maureen and Bess could not hear him.

Arthur said, “Hey Hollis. I am sorry. I am so sorry.”

“I know. Arthur But listen. Daniel said the helicopter was under attack. You know my powers are very limited. Do I need to get some powerful witches here to protect Billy’s mom and sister.”

Arthur asked, “Who?”

“Quentin Darko and Myrtle Claven.”

“Sure. Better safe than sorry.”

***

Leroy and Alexandra arrived above the Hearthville Park in the spaceship of Leroy’s grandfather Adolph Bare. Madison Grant saw the spaceship from the spaceship of Sam Bigalo. She snapped her fingers to appear in Leroy’ spaceship.

Leroy screamed, “Oh fuck. You weren’t supposed to see us.”

Madison smiled. “So buddy, what is your plan?” Madison looked at Leroy and then looked at Alexandra as they both sat silent. “Look. Shit is happening and it is going to get worse.”

Leroy looked at his monitors and saw the flashing lights of emergency vehicles arriving below at the Hearthville Park. He saw the helicopter. He pushed some buttons to focus in closer. He saw the body of Billy Bingo laying on the ground. He pushed some buttons to scan Billy Bingo for his vitals.

Leroy said, “Oh my God. That little boy is dead. Son of a bitch. Please tell me that Dioson did not do that?”

Alexandra looked in a different monitor to focus on the Legman’s spaceship. She saw above the spaceship a hologram of the US flag flown at half mask and upside down. Next to the US Flag was the silver flag of Iapetus which was a flag with two spears crossing. Next to that flag was the flag of war with the Omega symbol on it. The symbol had blood and tears dripping from it.

Alexandra said, “The Legman is declaring war.”

Madison Grant looked to see what Alexandra was looking at. Madison clinched her eyes tightly shut. “Oh my God.” Then shaking her head she opened her eyes. “So what is your damn fucking plan?”

Alexandra said, “We were going to connect Dioson’s van to this spaceship with a traction beam and get it out of this area as quickly as possible.”

“Okay. Do it. I will need to question you two later but not now.”

Leroy asked, “Am I going to be burned and caged?”

“Are you working with Sabian Blackrock and Sam Bigalo?”

“I hate Sabian Blackrock and I don’t know who the fuck Sam Bigalo is.”

Alexandra said, “I think he is telling the truth.”

Madison nodded. “Probably. Regardless, get Dioson and get the hell out of here as quickly as you can.”

Leroy watched as the body of Billy Bingo was being put on a stretcher and a white sheet was being pulled over his head. “I feel sick. I feel so sick. That poor baby. If Dioson did that, I want him dead.”

“He didn’t. I don’t know exactly how but you and Dioson were being used. Now get Dioson the hell out of here.” Madison snapped her fingers and vanished. She appeared on the ground and walked up to where Arthur was standing with Alice Malokey who had arrived.

Madison whispered to Alice. “The Legman is flying the flag of Omega, the flag of war. Dioson did not do this. This was the work of Sabian Blackrock and Sam Bigalo.”

Alice asked, “Are you sure?”

Madison said, “I was on the ship with Sabian. Then I was on the ship with Sam. Sam was just being stupid because of Amelia. Sabian hopes the Legman will kill and cage Sam because he wants to pit you against the Legman. I think he might be up to something else as well, but I don’t know what.”

Natalina walked up to Arthur. “Nat is insisting that we find Victor and make him use the time portal to stop this from having happened. Could Victor do that?”

Arthur said, “I don’t know.”

Alice said, “And that is what Sabian is up to. He wants Victor to show him where the time portal, the goto statement, is. That is what he is after.”

Madison said, “Shit. Sabian does not need to know where any time portal is.”

Alice said, “Agreed. Why in the hell do you work with Sabian at times? I don’t understand. You know that you can not trust him and that he is dangerous.”

Madison said, “I need allies. My mother is a rebel and my father is a prisoner on your planet.”

Alice said, “I can’t do anything about your father.”

“I know. And I probably can’t either but I still dream. I plan. Because God help me, I want my father free.”

Natalina stared at Alice and Madison. Feeling confused, she had listened to them. Then she asked, “Is there another way to bring Billy back from the dead?”

Alice said, “There are all kinds of spells. There are all kinds of ways. But if I used any of them I would be punished by the other members of the Witches Council. I am sorry.”

Madison said, “I am sorry also.”

Mumbling, Natalina walked away from Arthur, Alice and Madison. “Sorry does not cut it. By God I hope Victor is of a mind to use the time portal to save Billy.”

Hearthville Serial: Book 4 – Chapter 12

Excerpt:

Madison wasn’t sure what to say. Sabian knew that Madison and Alice had their difficulties but still Alice was her ally. Madison felt she needed someone like Sabian as her ally as well in case her difficulties with Alice became too difficult.

Sabian was amused by Madison’s silence. “Oh such wheels must be turning in your head right now. There is your friendship with Alice. There is your father in a dungeon on Malokey. Then there is your rebel mother. And now here I stand. You want us to be friends but can you be friends with a monster. I would guess that is what you might be wondering.”

Madison snapped her fingers. She left Sabian’s spaceship and appeared in Sam’s spaceship. Madison said, “You can’t do this. Do not kill Billy?”

Sam Bigalo sat excited in his spaceship, salivating for the kill that he wanted all so badly. He thought he had maneuvered his ship just right. The ship would not be obvious to the casual eye and yet he had thought it was where he could accomplish his ambition just right.

Sam had received a tip from a traitor on the Legman’s ship that the Legman was going after Dioson. Sam didn’t much like Dioson but he was a fellow hunter. They had done some kills together. Sam wasn’t sure how he should handle the situation with Dioson but he knew how he wanted to handle the situation with Billy Bingo.

Excerpt:

“No. I’ve told you that I am straight.”

“I know. I am sorry that I bother you.”

“You don’t bother me.”

“Well, I guess I better be going. There are some laws I need to break.”

Leroy stood up. Leroy kissed Deven on the side of the face and whispered in his ear. “I love you.” Leroy then walked out of the Purple Bird Billiard Club.
