Excerpt:
Constance examined the lock on the wall. She stared at the creaking gates as they swung open and then they closed. “Maybe I was wrong. Maybe this is an illusion. Maybe we have been caged.”
Dioson shook his head. “We have been breaking the rules but Victor and Deven?”
Leroy said, “Maybe they just got swept in as we were being trapped and didn’t realize it.”
Victor said, “But why this illusion?”
Constance said, “True. Indeed. Why?”
Hannibal said, “Some cages are designed where the trapped create the illusion. It is a way for the Space Alien Witches to get into our minds.” Hannibal cleared his throat. “Victor, do not reveal what you know to them.”

“I don’t know any thing. This is just a dream.”
Constance and Leroy looked at one another. Deven put his arm around Victor’s shoulder. He held him close.
Dioson and Hannibal studied Deven and Victor. Dioson asked, “Are we going to be at peace or at war in this illusion? I know you hate us because of how we killed Donny Maxtone and our wanting to kill you. You would like to cage us and maybe now we are caged. Maybe you have caged us. In this cage are you going to kill us over and over again. Is that your game? Is that the illusion that you, I say you, have created?”
Nanny Ogleby appeared but without her cage in hand.
Constance and Leroy jumped back on seeing her. Victor smiled at seeing her and when Deven saw Victor’s smile, that relaxed Deven. Hannibal and Dioson had already had seen her about.
As she appeared she said, “I don’t think we are in a cage but neither am I sure if this is real.”
Leroy walked up to Nanny Ogleby and hugged her. Constance rolled her eyes. Upon seeing the affection between the two, Victor nodded.
Nanny Ogleby hugged Leroy. She rubbed his head. Leroy asked, “How, why, are you here?”
“I’ve been watching Dioson.”
Dioson said, “Yeah bitch, I’ve been feeling you about.”
Nanny Ogleby grinned. “Only because that was my design.” Nanny Ogleby added, “But right now I am not a threat to you and you damn well better not be a threat to me.”
Hannibal said, “We will behave.”
Dioson said, “Yeah. Sure. Bitch. We will behave.”
Nanny Oglegy said, “Anyway. But to the question, what the hell is going on and why are we here.” She thought a second. She asked, “Have any of you ever been to the planet Malokey?”
Leroy said, “Well, you know I have. My grandfather insisted that we take a vacation there together once. You were with us when we went into the Wild West World there. It is was so freaking cool.”
Constance said, “I have vacationed there a few times but what is your point?”
Nanny Ogleby said, “Where we are has that feeling. And I’ve heard that the Legman has started building those kind of worlds in the Outlands. And of course, he would know Iapetus.”
Victor said, “So based on your theory he would have been the one who brought us here. But why?”
Nanny Ogleby looked around. “I don’t know. It doesn’t really make sense. Does it?” Nanny looked at the gate swinging to open and then close. She held her ears to block the squeaking sound. “I can’t stand that noise. It is doing something to me.”
They all realized the noise was growing louder and worse. Then a strange music began to play. The music was mostly drums, with some trumpets, and then bagpipes. It sounded like a war march. But oddly, also a lullaby.
Constance said, “I feel scared. There is danger. I know there is danger. What should we do?”
Leroy said, “Wait for the threat and then run or fight.”
Hannibal and Dison agreed.
Nanny Ogleby repeated. “I can’t stand that noise. It is the danger. It is the threat. We must stop it or run from it before it puts us into a sleep.”
Constance whined in a questioning tone, “The sleep?”
Nanny Ogleby rushed to the gates. When they were closed she grabbed hold of them. “We must stop the gates from swinging. Help me.”
Victor rushed to help Nanny Ogleby. He pressed her against the gates as he grabbed hold of the bars and pushed against them to stop them from swinging. There was a great energy from the gates. The gates were pressing hard to push Nanny Ogleby and Victor back. Still, the two of them struggled to keep the gates closed.
