Dioson rested in a spaceship he stole. He tried spells to talk the fire out of his burns. The spells pinged and did not work. He tried human ointments. He took human antibiotics. It takes more to kill a witch than a human. A human would have probably died in the explosion the second it happened. But Dioson survived. Still, he was not out of the woods. He could die. And he knew it. He needed help. But who? His trusted sidekick and brother, Hannibal, was dead. It was Hannibal who had always watched his back.

Dioson moaned, “Oh God. I do not want to call anyone. I seriously do not want to call anyone. But I do not want to die. I want to live. I want to live to get revenge. Sweet revenge. I want revenge. I need revenge.”

Dioson called Sabian.

Sabian screamed into the phone. “Dioson, I want none of you.”

Dioson said, “Leroy handed me a bomb, instead of money. The son of a bitch tried to kill me. I survived. But I may die yet. I need your help.”

“Why should I help you?”

“We might still get Victor to show you how to travel back in time.”

Sabian screamed into the phone. “Fuck. Okay. I’ve got the coordinates of your spaceship. I will send Doc Spherojunk to work on you. But you keep low. If you have it in your mind to seek revenge, don’t. Don’t until I tell you that it is okay.”

In pain Dioson’s words were weak. “Okay. Okay.”

Victor drove to the Hearthville College. He halfway expected a fan club to meet him. But there was no one. Most people who saw him didn’t act as though they much cared he was a hero or rich. Victor noticed Stewart’s friends gathered all around him.

Victor drove around a circle. He parked and got out of his car. Deven walked up. Looking at Stewart Deven said, “I sometimes wonder what the cool kids talk about.”

Victor said, “They mostly grunt and pat each other on the back.”

Deven laughed. Then Deven said, “You are popular in your own right. I know you are. But it is odd that you don’t have a huge entourage like Stewart.”

Victor shook his head. “Why?”

“I don’t know. Changing the subject. Did you hear that there was an explosion at the Hearthville Lake View Trailer Park yesterday.”

“No.”

“Can you keep a secret?”

“Probably not.”

“Dioson was the one in the camper that blew up and it was Leroy Bare who tried to blow him up but Dioson got away. Of course if you tell anyone then I will deny that I know anything.”

“Sure. Who would I tell? My large entourage that follows me around.” Victor waves his arm about to point to the no ones around him.”

Deven rolled his eyes. “Don’t tell Daniel.”

“I won’t.” George popped out. “So Dioson got away?”

“Yeah. I don’t know what Dioson had in mind but he was camping close to Steed.”

“Shit. And camping close to you. That is not good. Do you have a gun?”

“Yeah, my mom bought me one and she bought some kind of special ammo. She told me the ammo was special and to always let her buy the ammo for the gun. It was kind of weird.”

George said, “Yeah, I would guess Arthur does the same for Steed which is a good thing.”

Deven asked, “Why?”

“It is not important.”

“Victor. I am going to ask a stupid question. Are you a witch?”

George said, “Just like you. Not like Billy Bingo.”

“I am not a witch.”

“Yes. You. Are.”

“I am not. You are freaking me out.”

“The ammo that your mom is providing you are magic bullets which makes it easier to kill witches when you shoot them. Hannibal was a witch. He would not have died if the bullets you were using were not magic bullets.” George hesitated. Then he said, “I am going to freak you out some more. Victor has an alter personality and I am it. I know shit that Victor does not know and you can’t tell Victor what I am telling you.”

Deven said, “Steed suspects. He talked to me about it. He wanted me to spy on you. I said no.”

“I know he suspects. But please let him keep guessing and don’t confirm it to him.”

“I said no but why wouldn’t you want him to know? You know he loves Victor. It hurts him that Victor does not remember him.”

“If Victor starts remembering Steed and his relationship with Steed he might start Victor remembering other stuff. It is bad stuff. Victor can’t cope with those memories. That is one of the reasons that I exist.”

“I am glad that you are confiding with me, but I am not sure why.”

“I need to start working with you. You are vulnerable. I do not want someone like Dioson killing you or Steed. I need you to be capable to look after Steed and Victor and Judy.”

“Look. I am a total fuck up. You can’t be serious. You know that I will mess up.”

“You killed Hannibal. You did not let him kill you. That is a starting point. But I need to make you stronger.”

“How?”

“Said the Indian to the traveling salesman.”

“What?”

George laughed. “Nothing. Later, we will get into how we are going to work to make you stronger. For now, Victor is late for class and I need to let him take back over. Remember, you don’t know about me. On the upper level he knows about the witch stuff but on the lower level he doesn’t.”

“I have no idea what that means.”

“That means at times he knows stuff but then I make him think it is part of a dream world that is not real or I totally alter his memory.”

“Okay. I mean, I don’t understand it, but okay.”

George smiled. “Here comes Victor.”

Victor looked at his watch. “Damn. Where did time go? I’ve got to get to my class.”

Deven said, “Yeah, I am running late as well. See you later.”

“Sure.”
