Chapter 8 – Billy Bingo: When The Legman Comes

Chapters

As soon as Bobby White heard that his brother Doug had been hit by the police car and was in Grady on life support he rushed back from Hotville to Metropolitan Atlanta. His Uncle, Mayor Keith White, flew him to PDK Airport in his private airplane. His cousin Mikey White flew with them. They were all set to pitch a fit that it was a police car that had run Doug down. They were hurt, they were angry, and they were looking for someone to blame. The police officer behind the wheel of the car seemed the most convenient person to blame. His name was now known: Officer Don Johnson.

Janet Silverton quickly got a call from her superiors. It was now known she had been stripping at the 5th Side Strip Club. She was put on a leave of duty and with considerable pressure being put on her to resign and to just go away. Janet was not sure what she was going to do. She could either start stripping full time, try to get a job at another police department, totally change occupations, or as she cried on the phone to her Aunt Tess Favor, “I feel like I could just crawl into a hole and die.’ Her Aunt Tess begged her to come move in with her down in Hotville and to help her do research for her books. She told her Aunt that she would think about it. One thing she knew for certain, without a steady income she was going to have to break her lease and give up her Apartment. “It is just as well I never finished unpacking.”

Bobby White knocked on Billy Bingo’s door. Billy had just gotten home from the airport from where he had been to New York and was just about to crawl into bed for a nap. From sitting on the bed, Billy stumbled to answer the door. Opening the door, he saw Bobby White standing there.

“Billy, I want you to use your Detective skills to help bring Officer Don Johnson down. Those son of a bitches police are covering up for the bastard while my brother is hanging on by a thread. I want that bastard to pay for running down, running over my brother. No car chase was worth the life of my brother.”

Billy started to invite Bobby in but then he thought about his parents and decided it was best if he talked to Bobby in private. Billy stepped outside and asked Bobby to walk around with him.

Bobby gave Billy a go drop dead look but then he thought he did need to walk. He considered that he needed to cool off from all the anger that had been building inside of him. As they started walking Bobby asked, “Do you think I am wrong to be so angry at the police officer?”

“I don’t know. I don’t fully know the circumstances of what happened. But being angry and upset is fully understandable. That said, part of my job is to stay more calm.”

Bobby said, “Benjamin has also told me to calm down and not blame the police officer. I don’t understand Benjamin.”

Billy knew something of what had happened from Bobby’s calls to Steve. Steve had talked to Billy about what Bobby had told him. Billy said, “Benjamin was with Doug when it happened, right?”

“Yeah. It was just a coincidence though. They weren’t there at the strip club together. When I was asking Benjamin questions, that was pretty much all that I could get out of him. He won’t tell me how he just happened to be at the strip club or near the alley where Doug was taking a piss when he was run over.”

Billy said, “I will do some checking. He may tell me some things that he does not want the family to know.”

Bobby nodded. “It may be as simple that he was spying on Doug, following him around, and feels guilty about it. I don’t know what Doug was doing taking a piss in the alley.”

“Doug isn’t a priest. He may come across as a nerdy brain with no thought of sex, but he has male hormones just like every other red blooded male.”

“Yeah, I know but so what if Doug was trying to get himself some pussy around the Strip Club. That doesn’t mean he deserves to die.”

“Of course not but you can’t blame Benjamin for not wanting to tell your parents they were in Atlanta trying to get themselves laid.”

“No, but Benjamin should know he can tell me anything.”

“Bullshit. You don’t tell Benjamin everything. God knows I don’t tell Bess everything. That does not mean that we do not love them. Anyway, where is Benjamin? I will go talk to him.”

“I finally was able to get him to come home and take a shower and eat something. It was difficult to get him to leave the foot of Doug’s bed.”

* * *

When Billy entered the White Apartment with Bobby, they saw Benjamin seated with Janet Silverton at the table. They were both sniffling back tears as they ate a bowl of cereal. Both Billy and Bobby were somewhat shocked to see Janet sitting with Benjamin.

Bobby said, “I am going to take a shower. Benjamin, talk to Billy as a Detective. Benjamin, Billy will not tell me anything you do not want him to tell me.” Bobby screamed as he walked down the hallway. “Talk to him!”

Billy walked to the table and sat down. “Your brother is angry at the Officer Don Johnson for running over your brother. He wants me to get evidence to hurt the police.”

Benjamin said, “I keep telling everyone that the police officer is not to blame. They need to drop that bullshit.”

Billy said, “So how did the accident happen? What caused Officer Don Johnson to run over Doug? Was it Doug’s fault?”

“No! No! Shit. Fuck. Of course it was not Doug’s fault. Janet keeps telling me to just let the law take care of it. She thinks if Bobby finds out what happened that he will get himself killed.”

Billy stared at Janet. “What? Are you working with the law to cover this thing up?”

Janet rolled her eyes. “Work for the police? Well, once upon a fucking time, maybe. I have been suspended from my job because they found out that I had been stripping at the 5th Side Strip Club. I am honestly concerned for the family.”

Billy nodded. “Why are you concerned? Who do you think will kill Bobby if he finds out what happened to his brother? The law?”

Janet raised her voice. “Do you have something against the police?”

“No. All I know at this point is that the Officer, Don Johnson, ran over Doug. That is all I know. And I am being told that if Bobby discovers what happened to his brother he will get himself killed. Stop me from speculating by telling me what happened. Tell me or I will use my police contacts to find out what the two of you are not telling me.”

Janet said, “We are afraid that Bobby will get himself hurt by going after the gang leader that we believe is responsible for what happened to Doug. It is not that we are just being obstinate about this.”

“A gang?” Then Billy shook his head. “I see. I will not tell Bobby what you do not want told. I will also work to protect your family from the gang if that is needed.”

Benjamin stared at Billy. “Protect us? Do you think that we might need protecting?”

“I don’t know. I don’t know the details but if the gang thinks your family might know too much about whatever then yeah, your family may need to be protected.”

Benjamin said, “The gang, the RedOaks is run by Stan Wakes. I was at the Orakay Liquor Store, trying to get someone to buy me some booze when I encountered a gunman going into the store. Janet believes Stan Wakes is the gunman who went into the Orakay Liquor Store and killed rival gang member Raovertso. When I saw something was going down there I took off running but I did call the law.” Benjamin ran his hands through his hair. “It was my call that began the car chase. Janet believes Stan Wakes called his girlfriend Samantha Wilder to get her to create a diversion to end the police chase. Janet believes that diversion is what caused Samantha Wilder to lure Doug into the alley to have sex. Janet believes Samantha intentionally pushed Doug in front of the police car. She then vanished through the doorway into the abandoned building and Stan Wakes made his escape. Mind you, from what Janet has said, all we know for certain is that Samantha Wilder is the girlfriend of Stan Wakes and she was in the alley with Doug. We don’t know for certain he is the one who killed Raovertso or is the one who was driving the van that the police were chasing. We are pretty sure that Samantha Wilder pushed Doug in front of the police car to break off the chase.”

Billy said, “I see.” Billy eyed Janet with a degree of respect. “It looks the two of you pretty much have it figured out.”

Benjamin said, “If there is anyway you can get my family to back off from hurting the Officer who struck Doug, please do. He is not to blame. At the same time I do not want you to tell them about Stan Wakes and Samantha Wilder. Janet has convinced me that telling them would be a mistake.”

Billy cocked his head and wrinkled his eyes as he looked at Janet, now with a good bit less respect. Billy asked, “Is it okay if I tell Bobby that Doug was pushed in front of the police car to explain that there is more to the story and Officer Don Johnson was not simply being careless.”

Janet said, “No. Bobby will want answers and more details and then if he finds out too much there is no telling how he will react. It is best if the police are left to handle this.”

Billy frowned. He stood up. He knew that if he were Bobby he would want revenge. “You know, maybe wanting revenge is not such a bad thing. Wanting to protect the people you love from getting hurt is not a bad thing.”

Benjamin said, “Of course I want those two to pay for what they did to my brother. I just do not want Bobby to get hurt.”

“So you are planning the revenge, making them pay, all by yourself.”

“Maybe.”

Janet screamed, “No. Benjamin, don’t think like that. Let the law do their job.”

Benjamin stood up. “Law! The same law that is punishing you for being a stripper. I don’t blame Officer Don Johnson but come on, he doesn’t inspire confidence in the law.” Without thinking, Benjamin raised his voice, “I want that crazy whore Samantha Wilder and that drug pushing bastard Stan Wakes to pay for what they did to my brother. I want those evil monsters dead and in hell.” Benjamin broke down crying and fell into Billy’s arms. “I want them dead.”

Hearing his brother screaming and crying, wearing just a towel Bobby ran from the bathroom. He stared at his brother Benjamin in Billy’s arms. Benjamin turned and looked at Bobby, “Some gang called the RedOaks did this to Doug. We’ve got to get revenge. We’ve got to make those bastards pay for having Doug pushed in front of the police car. I don’t want you hurt but we’ve got to do this. We’ve got to make them pay.”

Janet jumped up and stared bullets at Billy. “You son of a bitch. I had convinced Benjamin that revenge is not the answer and here you come. You are going to get these brothers killed.”

Billy said, “You can either work with us or against us. The choice is your choice.”

“I think I hate you.” Janet walked over and reached out to slap Billy. Billy caught her hand. “With us or against us!”

Janet yanked her hand back away from Billy. Again she struck out to slap Billy. This time he let her but then he pulled her into his arms and he kissed her. It was a long kiss. It was thoughtful kiss. If the Legman had made a visible appearance he might even have called it a magical kiss. As their lips separated, a bit of static electricity between them popped, Janet whispered, “With you.”

“Good. You are hired. That is if you want a job with the Naked Truth Agency.”

* * *

It was a shock to Bobby and Benjamin when their mom called and told them that her husband’s brother, Mayor Keith White, was moving Doug to the Hotville Lakes Memorial Hospital. Bobby was somewhat okay with that since he now lived in Hotville but Benjamin was furious.

Benjamin screamed, “We don’t live in Hotville. This is ridiculous. Mom and dad can’t move to Hotville. They have jobs. Doug needs to stay near mom.”

Bobby didn’t want to argue. “It might be easier for mom and dad. They can’t spend all of their time with Doug and they will be able to come down on the weekends. Please do not make a scene. This is hard enough on mom as it is.”

Benjamn calmed down. “It is not my decision. I was just voicing my disgust. I am not going to make a scene with anyone else.”

“Understood and you can scream your frustration at me anytime that you want.”

So, in a coma, Doug was moved to the Hotville Lakes Memorial Hospital. His parents and Bobby rode with Doug in the EMS vehicle as the journey was made. Benjamin stayed with Billy who set up a temporary office in Janet’s Apartment. Billy informed Detective Joseph Face, who was working a month’s notice before leaving the police department, what he was working on. Detective Face gave Billy the information on the last known area that the van— the van the police had been chasing when Doug was hit by the police car—was seen. Janet and Benjamin told the police that they believed Samantha Wilder had pushed Doug into the police car and since she was the girlfriend of Stan Wakes it was likely he was the one driving the van. The police agreed with Janet and Benjamin but they didn’t have proof.

Billy had purchased some computers and Benjamin was setting them up in Janet’s apartment. While Benjamin was doing that, together Janet and Billy drove around the neighborhood where Doug was run over and the van was last seen. They were hoping against odds that unlike the police they would be able to discover where the van had been ditched and was now hidden. They were having no better luck than the police in searching for the van when suddenly Billy noticed something. He told Janet to park the car in an area they had already driven by three times. There was an impound lot at the location. Billy got out of the car and walked on the sidewalk outside the chain linked fence. Holding onto the fence, Billy looked inside the lot at the different vehicles that were lined up. As Janet ran to catch up with him, Billy then walked to where there was a padlocked gate. Billy pointed back to where there were three vans parked.

Janet said,”All three of them are of the same make and model as in the police report.”

Billy asked, “Do you know who owns this impound lot? Do they have any connection to the RedOak gang or Stan Wakes?”

“I don’t know.”

Billy looked around for a sign to tell him the name of the lot. He finally located a small, rusty sign that read, “Henry Oak Wrecker Service.” Billy called Detective Face. “Can you give me any information on the Henry Oak Wrecker Service?”

Detective Face replied, “One moment. Let me see what I can pull up.”

“Okay.”

“It is now owned by some corporation registered down in Cayman Islands. The last registration shows Triple Oak Wise N Red Inc.. Okay, that Corporation is owned by Yellow and Green Bonnet Inc.. I can’t figure who controls that. Why do you need the information?”

“There are three vans in the impound lot that match the description of the van the police were chasing when Doug White was hit.”

“Is there anyone around the lot where you can ask questions and find out about the vans?”

“Not that I see. I don’t think there are any offices about. It looks like a lot where they park cars they have hauled in after the city has booted them.”

“So they work with the city.”

“That is what is looks like to me. Janet, what do you think?”

Janet said, “Yeah, I recognize a few of the cars that I called in that had been parked too long or abandoned.”

Detective Face said, “So I shouldn’t need a warrant. I just need the tag and serial numbers to write up a report to order the vans moved to a different impound lot where I know the owner. Can you get me the tag and serial numbers?”

Billy climbed over the fence. Using his cell phone Billy quickly took pictures of the information on all three vans and climbed back over the fence. Billy and Janet walked back to her car. Billy sent the pictures he had taken of the vans information to Detective Face. All three vans had been reported stolen. One of the vans had the same tag number as the van the police had been chasing but on the impound sheet the tag number had been entered wrong. There was some evidence that the van had been used to haul marijuana but nothing to connect the van to anyone. Billy was disappointed that the van did not provide any evidence against Stan Wakes.

Back at the Apartment, after getting details on the Van, Billy, Janet, and Benjamin sat back disappointed. They had hoped finding the van would provide a lead but it didn’t. Billy said, “So now I’ve got to locate Stan Wakes and we have to start following him and hope that he slips up.”

Detective Face came in and was much more cheerful than Billy. “Good job in finding that van. The city is now looking at pulling all business from the Yellow and Green Bonnet Company. They also found 3 illegal aliens working for the company.”

Billy said, “So they will move the operation to some other company they own. I thought for sure we would be able to link the van to Stan Wakes.”

Detective Face said, “I’ve decided that I will continue my job. It has been agreed that with me on the inside and you on the outside then we will make a good team. You impressed some people today.” Detective Face winked at Janet. “No doubt Billy knows how to hire talent.” Detective Face looked at Benjamin. “I bought some groceries since we are going to working out of Janet’s Apartment for now. Would you mind bringing the groceries in.”

Benjamin nodded and quickly got up to start bringing the bags inside. Detective Face turned to Billy. “Stan Wakes was spotted following the EMS vehicle. He followed them all the way to the hospital. Mayor Keith White has been notified and has a detail protecting Doug.”

Benjamin quickly finished bringing the groceries in and helped Janet start putting them away. Benjamin had stood at the door long enough to hear what Detective Face had said to Billy and Janet. Benjamin said, “So if they catch Stan trying to kill my brother, that should help put him away but what about that Samantha Wilder?”

Detective Face said, “I think the District Attorney is considering bringing a case against her for attempted to murder based on your and Janet’s testimony. If Stan Wakes is caught that should seal the case.”

It was a dark, dark, night in Atlanta. The sky was cloudy and the air had a slight chill. Janet Silverton thought, “What am I doing?” That is what she considered as she walked down the sidewalk from where she had parked, but she knew what she was doing. To her it was fun to dance and strip off her clothes in front of men and maybe a few women. Also she earned money when she could arrange to entertain at the club. Course, she knew if the police department where she worked were to find out, she could lose her main job. Regardless, that did not much matter to her. Tired, lonely, she wanted someone to hold her in their arms. She wanted human touch.

Janet stepped off the sidewalk and turned down an alleyway. She rubbed her breasts through her white, see through T-shirt. She rubbed her crotch through her tight blue jeans. She walked along the alleyway between two abandoned buildings and then exited from the darkness into the bright lights of the parking lot outside of the 5th Side Strip Club. She walked past the parked cars and up to a side entrance. A security guard opened the door and let her in. She walked into the area where several women were putting on their fancy, colorful, sexy costumes. She walked to a rack to select something for her dance.

A woman, Marge Ross, looked at Janet Silverton. “Why are you doing this? You don’t need the money.”

“Maybe tonight I will meet my Prince Charming.”

“Honey, if you want to meet a nice man, try church.”

Janet laughed as she removed her white T-Shirt and shook her breasts. Marge put some oil in her hands and tenderly, sensually, rubbed the oil on Janet’s breasts to give them a shiny, glistening, shimmer. Janet moaned at the warm feel of Marge’s hands touching her breasts. Marge was desirable enough, as kind as she was sexy, but Janet wanted the feel of a man’s cock pounding her pussy.

Janet stripped the rest of her clothes off. She slid black fishnet stockings on her beautiful, smooth, legs. She then put a gold mini skirt on and a white lace top. She adorned her feet in gold high heel shoes. Marge helped put her blonde hair into a bun that would look all so sexy when she loosened the bun and shook her head for her hair to freely fly to the drumming sound of music. It would be a good effect.

Marge said, “You are so beautiful. I don’t understand why you haven’t met your Prince Charming.”

Janet shrugged and smiled. “Tonight may be the night.”

* * *

Doug White stood outside the strip club. He had never been into a club to see women dance and take their clothes off for money. He had that innocent look which pretty much made that secret not really so much of a secret. Still he had always pretended to be a more worldly man when talking to his friends and he had always thought that they believed his tales of sordid sex and high risk adventure.

Doug did not much socialize at the Minion Plex with his brother Bobby’s friends. There was the age difference by a few years. Also Doug’s friends were mainly the so called “nerd” group from his school years.

Doug had been thinking about this night since he first heard Janet on the phone discussing dancing here. Doug had imagined that somehow he would cause Janet to notice him and perhaps give him a lap dance. Doug hoped from that he could develop a relationship with the Policewoman/Stripper who had moved into the Apartment Complex. Doug did not just want sex from his new neighbor, he wanted a relationship. That was his fantasy.

This evening Doug was dressed in gray slacks and a navy blue jacket. His expensive shirt was lime green and his tie was pink. His slightly long hair was a sandy brown color and his eyes were green. His face was somewhat roundish and when he smiled he had dimples that girls liked to pinch. Still, around even those girls he had always been very shy.

Nervously Doug paid the door fee and entered the club. His face felt hot, flush, when he saw the waitresses walking around topless. As he looked around he considered that he had never imagined so many breasts coming in so many shapes and sizes. A topless waitress showed him to his table and took his order for a night of drinks and over priced sandwiches. Pale and shaking Doug sat down. Unexpectedly a strange woman sat down at the table with Doug. She introduced herself as Samantha Wilder. He halfway suspected she had made her name up.

Samantha’s hair was red and her lips were thick with blue lip stick. Doug couldn’t decide the color of her eyes. Blue or green. The color seemed to change with the turn of her head. She had a nice enough face, pretty, but Doug’s stare soon shifted from her face so as to check out her large breasts and nice cleavage. For a second he imagined his cock rubbing between her breasts. He’d always liked titty fucking in porn movies, and also in his imagination when jerking off.

Samantha asked, “How big is your dick?”

“Around 8 inches.” When giving his height he also tended to exaggerate up by an inch or so. It wasn’t like people walked around with a tape measure. Well, usually. There was that one dude at the gym. That was weird. And seriously, does the government census bureau really do those kind of surveys.

Samantha smiled. “The biggest dick I’ve ever had was 12 inches. Have you ever seen a 12 inch cock.”

“No.” The waitress brought his sandwiches and a couple of drinks. He quickly swallowed a gulp from one of the glasses and then almost choked it up.

“Yeah. That is how I was with the 12 inch cock.”

The lights dimmed as music began to play. Janet Silverton walked out on the stage with all eyes in the place gawking in awe, watching her. Two of those eyes mesmerized by her sexy moves were the eyes of the be smitten Doug White. As she danced about the stage Doug watched each move, gyration, and each sexual like expression contorting from her every inch of her body. Doug felt not just desire but a longing some might call love as he watched Janet dance. She was as sexually desirable on the stage as he had imagined in fantasy but even on the stage stripping her clothes off to the beat of music there was also a tenderness, an innocence about her.

Samantha watched Doug watching Janet. “Does she get your 8 inch cock all hard and wet?”

Doug did not answer. He was somewhat excited but wasn’t fully erect. Samantha moved closer to Doug. She slipped her hand beneath the table and between his legs. She rubbed his crotch. Doug was not sure how to react to Samantha as his attention was more drawn to Janet Silverton who was now pole dancing. “So how would I go about getting a lap dance from that beauty on that platform?”

“Well that is a fine how do you do? Don’t you want a lap dance from me? Maybe more.”

* * *

There was a fine mist of rain falling against the windshield of Stan Wakes beaten up junk of a car. It was just enough rain to dirty the windshield but not enough to turn on the wipers and the windows were starting to fog. Stan Wakes felt unnerved but he knew he needed to man up, bounce his big balls from where they had been hiding too long, and do this. What was left of his gang was no longer respected and he wanted to restore the gang’s beleaguered reputation from that of ridicule to fear.

Finding it hard to see out the windshield, Stan pulled into the Orakay Liquor Store parking lot. He almost bumped into the young dude, Benjamin White, walking the well lit parking lot and hoping to find someone to buy him a bottle of liquor. The punkish dude, Benjamin, in tight blue jeans, screamed, “Hey, what’s the fucking idea.”

Benjamin was hardly anything like his older brother Doug who this moment was sitting in the 5th Street Strip Club and taking great pleasure in the realization that not all breasts are alike. Benjamin was more like his oldest brother Bobby though much more of a loner than Bobby.

Stan Wakes slowly drove, straddling the white line between two parking spots, to finesse his car in place. Watching, Ben comically considered that it was as though the driver was worried about someone dinging the piece of junk he was driving.

Stan took a red and black checkered scarf that tied his blonde wig into a ponytail and used it cover his face like he was a wild west bandit. Stan felt the Colt M1911 military issue in the pocket of his red windbreaker as he opened the car door to get out.

The 20 year old kid, Benjamin White, who Stan had almost run over, walked up to him. He was about to ask the stranger to buy a bottle of liquor for his consumption when he saw the scarf covering his face. Benjamin noticed the stranger’s hand in the pocket touching a gun, a colt. For a moment Benjamin focused on the small, fake, snake tattoo on the man’s hand. From ogling the man’s snake tattoo Benjamin looked up into the unknown man’s cold blue eyes. “Fuck!” Realizing there was about to be a robbery or worse, Benjamin started to take off running. He started, but he was not quick enough.

Stan grabbed Benjamin by his shirt collar and spun him around. Benjamin didn’t notice that the dangerous stranger had moved his hand from his gun to the phone in his pocket. He didn’t realize when the unknown man took his picture. When Stan released his grip on Benjamin, Benjamin thought he had broken free rather than being freed. Benjamin fled just as quickly as his two feet would carry him as Stan quietly moaned in distress. “I will deal with you later. Disguise or no disguise, you saw too much.”

Stan looked up toward the liquor store and saw the camera that panned the brightly lit parking lot. “Video.” Stan was glad that “Sammy” had stolen a couple of car tags for his out of state junk that officially had long ago been crushed. Still, seeing the camera disturbed Stan. “Too many damn fucking cameras in this world,” Stan said as he eased his own phone camera back into his pocket.

Stan felt nervous as he walked to enter the Orakay Liquor Store. Unless the victim was preoccupied and not looking at the video from the camera, he’d probably seen Stan. Of course whoever was inside this unsavory store would not be calling the law. The last thing they would want to do is bring the heat down on their operation.

Stan opened the dirty glass door. A cow bell attached to the door made a high pitched ringing sound. Stan looked toward the check out counter area on the far wall. A door behind the counter was open. No one was in sight. “Anyone home,” Stan said with a nervous edge in his voice.

Stan turned and flipped a sign on the door to closed. Keeping both eyes open for surprises he knelt down and unplugged the electric, neon, open sign. “Anyone home,” Stan repeated.

Stan eased up and down the aisles. He looked at the bottles of alcoholic beverages that lined the shelves. The store seemed as well stocked as most any liquor store he had ever entered. There were the berry liquors: Chambord, Lakka, Polar and lots more. Then there were the Coffee Liquors.

“What the fuck.” Stan shook his head at the Coffee Liquors. “I know you are in here, somewhere. Come on out. You don’t have to be afraid.” Stan continued up and down the aisles. He stepped around a mop bucket. Then he exited the aisles and came back to the check out area. He walked behind the counter. Cautiously, he walked into the room behind the counter. The room was dark. He fumbled for the switch to turn the light on. He finally located the light switch. “And let there be light,” Stan said with a god complex. He flipped the switch and the room brightened up.

Stan looked around the small room. Each of the three other walls lining the dingy room had a door. “I sure as hell don’t like this. I should have obtained a diagram of the building.”

Stan walked to the door that he figured exited to an alley behind the building. He opened the unlocked door and sure enough there was a narrow back street. There was a large van parked, blocking the one lane road right at the door. Stan looked around the van and then looked up and down the lane. “Maybe he was smart enough to run. Maybe he escaped down the asphalt alley.”

* * *

Benjamin White, who had wanted to get drunk for the first time, stopped running. He settled his young, sexy, body against a wall. “I am such a fucking coward.” He pulled his cellphone from his pocket. He dialed 911.

“Yeah, this is an emergency. I was at the Orakay Liquor Store over on Orakay and 5th. I saw a man with a mask and gun going into the liquor store.” Benjamin closed his cellphone. He figured that was enough information. He had done his duty.

Benjamin realized he was standing outside of the 5th Side Strip Club. He wondered if he tried to enter the place, if they would check his id.

* * *

Stan turned from the alleyway to go back into the liquor store. He closed the door behind himself. He walked to a different door in the small room. The door was locked but it wasn’t much of a door jam and with very little effort Stan had the door opened. Inside the room, with bundles of marijuana, stood the clerk with the owner and another man. The clerk looked familiar but then doesn’t everyone.

Stan said, “You are operating in this neighborhood without permission.”

With a peculiar smirk the owner asked, “You work for the Raovertso Gang?”

“No.”

“So how many damn fucking gangs think they are going to collect from me?” The owner gave the clerk a rather odd look.

“Are you saying that you gave money to the Raovertso and they didn’t give a percent to the RedOaks?”

Before Stan even knew what the hell had happened the clerk had a revolver pointed at his temple.

The clerk Raovertso told him to drop his weapon. “You pay Raovertso. Raovertso doesn’t pay you.”

“So you want a gang war?”

“Your gang only has five people left who aren’t dead and aren’t in jail. I respect your last gasp effort to resurrect yourself, but it isn’t going to happen.”

Stan stared at the clerk. It was only then he realized that he was talking to Raovertso himself. “Why are you clerking at this store?”

“When someone pays me for protection, by God, they get protected. My gang is not like that sorry ass operation that you ran into the ground.”

“You were expecting me? I mean, you were expecting me even before I pulled into the parking lot? Sammy sold me out.”

Raovertso said, “Sammy is tired of you. All of your big plans and never able to execute. Your grand notions got her brother killed.”

Stan laughed. “Her brother got her brother killed.” He very quickly turned the tables and had Raovertso down on the floor and the gun in Raoverto’s hand pointed at his own temple. The shot was quick. The death was sudden. Watching the blood ooze Stan said, “Dumb ass.”

Stan looked at the owner. “You start loading the truck to get this pot moved.”

“Yes sir.” He wasted no time in getting a cart to load the pot to push around to the truck.

Stan looked at the other man who stood still. “So who the hell are you?”

“It is my pot or I guess I should say that it was my pot.”

“You get paid?”

“He was short a thousand but that is no never mind now. If I get out of here alive, I will be happy.”

“You a grower or a handler?”

“Both.”

“Are you honest with your people?”

“I try to be but then this isn’t the first time that I have been cheated. They probably will not trust me after this. I don’t blame them.”

Stan counted out ten one hundred dollar bills to the man. “My name is Stan Wakes. You can usually get word to me from the RedOak Bar. Just give the bartender a $100 bill with your business card and my name written on back. He will give you a $50 bill back with my current business card. Now you better get out of here before the police show up.”

The man left and Stan started helping the owner to load the truck. They quickly got the job done.

Stan said, “Now when the police get here, just tell them it was a robbery gone bad or some such. If there is any tape to that camera outside, or anywhere, lose the tape.”

“There is no video.”

Stan got in the truck with the pot and drove off, but he didn’t drive far before he saw flashing lights in his mirror and a siren singing. “Fuck.” He turned the radio in the truck up loud. He floored the gas. He sped down one road and then another but he found himself going no where fast. If he didn’t lose the cop quickly enough, he knew this was going to end up being one of those kind of car chases on television that people watch for entertainment. How was he going to get out of this predicament?

Stan flipped out his cell phone to call his girl pal Sammy. Sitting with Doug in the bar Samantha Wilder answered Stan’s call for help.

“Like honey we’ve got to time ourselves a quick diversion to get the police off my ass. I seriously need to get this cop’s tongue out of my ass crack. I am in a truck filled with pot. Where are you?”

* * *

Talking on her cellphone, Samantha Wilder stood up from the table with Doug White. Doug watched her walk away. She had a nice ass and a hot, prissy walk. Thinking how Samantha knew how to work her ass, his attention turned back to Janet on stage.

Doug pulled some money from his pocket to put in Janet’s G-string. As she came for the money he told her, “I sure would like a lap dance.”

Janet smiled at the young man who looked so innocent. He looked somewhat familiar to her but she wasn’t sure from where. She didn’t say anything but went to the next customer who was dangling money for her attention. Doug felt somewhat rejected but then he noticed Janet kept looking back at him. He wondered if there might still be hope. He wished for the feel of her sexual, sensual form rubbing against his all so horny self.

Samantha Wilder returned to the table but didn’t sit down. “Stud, have you ever had sex in an alley?” She rubbed her hands through his sandy brown hair. “You will like it.”

Doug looked back at Janet. Then he looked at Samantha. “How much will it cost me?”

“No gifts will be required but much appreciated.”

Doug didn’t notice the rather strange, sinister expression on Samantha’s face but from the stage Janet did notice. Janet felt a chill. Maybe it was psychic, maybe it was just knowing that Samantha was a gang member, but Janet felt afraid for the young man.

Doug stood up. Janet watched Doug leave the bar with Samantha. Janet left the stage and talked to one of the Club Managers. “Why do you let that Samantha Wilder in here? She just led a customer out of here. I feel certain she is up to something bad.”

“We don’t judge her and we don’t judge you.”

Janet said, “I am not a gang member. I am a police officer and…”

“You are a police officer who likes to get her freak on in a strip club. I am not judging but…”

“Yeah. I know. If anyone realized what I do on this side of town it would be bad for my career. Still, I’ve got to see if I can find out what Samantha is up to with that young man.”

Janet grabbed a long coat from Marge and left the 5th Side Strip Club. She saw a young man, Benjamin White, standing against a wall. She asked, “Did you just see a man and woman leave the club? Do you know where they went?”

Benjamin White looked at Janet. Her coat accidentally flashed open and he saw her naked breasts. His dick went hard and his brain went blank.

“Can I see your breasts again?” Benjamin asked Janet.

Janet quickly gave the sexy young man a peep as she again asked if he knew where the couple who had just left the bar had gone.

“When I came back from taking piss around the corner I did notice two people walking toward the alley over there. I don’t know whether they came from the club or not though. I only saw them from the back and don’t even even know if it was a man and a woman. It may not be the same couple you are asking about.”

Janet walked across the parking lot to the alley. Benjamin followed right on her heels.

* * *

Samantha Wilder led Doug into the alleyway. They walked a short distance and Samantha pushed Doug into a doorway. It was not totally dark as a city light beamed a dim light down from one of the abandoned buildings.

Samantha undid her blouse and ordered Doug to kiss her breasts. He did as she commanded and as she looked into his sweet face she felt a pang of guilt. This was someone’s son and she thought of her dead brother. She wondered why in the hell she was helping Stan Wakes but she knew why. He had obviously come out on top against Raovertso and he had the pot and he had the money and without Raovertso the gang would surely fall back under Stan’s control.

Samantha moaned at the feel of Doug’s tongue against the smooth skin of her ample breasts. As she began to unfasten his pants she moved his mouth from her breasts to her mouth. They kissed. It was a good kiss. It was a better kiss than she had expected. Damn it. She did not want to do what was now planned.

Samantha dropped to her knees and she pulled Doug’s pants down to his ankles. He did have a beautiful cock. She enjoyed the feel of it touching her lips. She licked the full shaft of his cock. She worked it in and out of her mouth. She enjoyed the taste of his cock as she sucked it in and out of her mouth.

Doug moaned. “Oh fuck yeah. Shit. This is better than I ever imagined.” His stomach tightened and he shivered but he did not cum.

Samantha slowed down. She didn’t want him to orgasm too soon.

“I want to feel my cock in your pussy,” Doug told her. “Let us leave this alley and go to a motel.”

“No,” Samantha whispered. “This is dirty. I enjoy dirty.” Samantha kept sucking on his cock.

* * *

Janet and Benjamin walked into the edge of the alleyway. They were where they could not be seen. They watched Samantha and Doug. Benjamin did not look at the man’s face in the shadow of the dim light and did not realize he was looking at his brother.

Benjamin whispered, “God, look at her suck on his cock. I wish someone would suck on my cock like that.”

Janet whispered, “Are you even of legal age?”

“Yes. Not to drink booze, but sex, yes.”

Janet whispered, “Samantha isn’t a whore. Stan Wakes is her boyfriend. I feel that something is not right.”

Janet walked away from the alleyway. Benjamin followed her. He wasn’t sure what to say.

Janet entered the 5th Side Strip Club. Benjamin followed her inside and no one questioned him being there, even as they walked to the dressing area where the strippers were changing.

Janet removed Marge’s coat and handed it to her. Benjamin gasped at seeing Janet almost totally naked. He then looked around and saw that he was surrounded by near naked women. He thought he had died and gone to boner heaven.

Marge asked, “So what is Samantha’s game?”

“I don’t know. She is sucking his dick. If she took him back there to rob him she wouldn’t be having sex with him.”

Benjamin said, “I know the crime rate is ridiculous but it would still be strange if I happened on two different crimes during the same night. Maybe the couple just happened to hit it off and are having sex.”

Janet stared at Benjamin. She asked, “Two crimes? What was the other crime you happened to see?”

Benjamin said, “I saw a robbery earlier tonight. Well, I saw a guy covering his face with a red and black checkered scarf or bandanna or whatever you want to call it. And he had a gun in his coat pocket. He was going into the Orakay Liquor Store.”

Marge said, “Red and black scarf. You know Samantha has a scarf like that.”

Janet nodded. “Yeah, but so do I. It was popular at some of the dollar stores around here at one time.” Janet turned her focus back to Benjamin. “So what did you do when you saw the masked man with the gun?”

Benjamin said, “I got the hell out of there. I ran over here. Once safe away from there and over here, I did do my civic duty and I dialed 911 and reported what I saw to the police. I doubt the robber will make it far in that old beat up car of his.”

Marge said, “I saw Stan Wakes driving an old junk of a car a couple of days ago.”

Janet pulled her cellphone from beneath a pile where Marge had folded her street clothes. She called someone on duty working the desk at the police station where she worked. “Hey sugars, can you pull up what is happening with some report of a robbery at the Oarakay Liquor Store?”

While Janet talked on the phone Benjamin began trying to flirt with Marge. He didn’t get far.

Janet told Marge and Benjamin, “There was a murder at Oarakay Liquors. Raovertso was found dead in the Liquor Store. There is now an on going car chase. The police are after a van that came out from behind the Liquor Store. A car was found abandoned in the parking lot with stolen plates. They don’t know who the junk belongs to but I would guess Stan Wakes and I would guess he is the one driving the van. ”

Marge said, “So Stan is getting back control of his gang and his territory by killing Raovertso.”

Janet frowned and said, “No. Stan is going to prison.”

Janet quickly got her street clothes on. She quickly left the 5th Side Strip Club to return to the alleyway. Benjamin followed after her. Janet told him to stay at the club but he ignored her.

* * *

Samantha stopped sucking on Doug’s cock. She played with his throbbing member for a moment and then stood up. As she and Doug started kissing she worked herself around where she was standing against the door and Doug was standing in the alleyway facing Samantha and the door.

Samantha pulled her panties down and lifted her skirt up. Doug slammed his cock to penetrate her pussy fast and hard. “I will be a virgin no more,” Doug moaned. “Oh God, this feels so good.” They kissed as he moved his cock in and out of her pussy. They kissed and they kissed. The kissed some more between expletives. “Fuucck. Hellllll. I may never send a Valentine’s Day card to my right hand again.”

Samantha giggled, “You are funny. And so sexy. This is so goooood.” Then Samantha heard a siren. She tightened her lips and her eyes grimaced shut for she knew the horrible thing she was about to do.

Doug saw tears and he asked, “Am I making you cry?”

Samantha’s phone made a sound to let her know that a text message had been received but the text message was not needed. Samantha could hear the sound of a siren growing louder as the car chase, with her boyfriend fleeing the police, approached. Then Samantha saw the van turn into the alleyway with the lone police car right behind it. As of yet no additional police had been called to join the chase.

Doug stared at the headlights of the speeding van. He moved into the doorway area and tight against Samantha to avoid being hit by the van. The moment after the van passed, Samantha shoved Doug. Screaming in tears she yelled, “Oh no!” like what she had done was an accident. With his pants around his ankles he hit against the side of the Police Car and spun around and bent forward landing on the hood of the police car. His head hit against the windshield as the Police Car slid squealing to a halt.

Frantically, Samantha quickly pulled her panties up and opened the door to the abandoned building and without being seen by the police vanished into the building.

Janet didn’t have a gun and could do nothing as she saw the van speed off. She and Benjamin raced down the alley to join the Police Officer who was checking Doug to see if he was still alive. Janet and Benjamin saw Doug on the hood of the police car. They saw his face smashed against the windshield. The police officer checked his pulse and then called into the police radio mic attached to the sleeve of his uniform to let dispatch and any officers on the frequency to know what was happening. Then the officer gently positioned Doug off the windshield to reposition him on the car hood. The over weight officer with a gruff face and mean expression said, “You are going to be okay kid. You are going to be okay.” In the dim light Benjamin and Janet could see the officer was fighting back tears. Then Benjamin looked at the face of the man on the hood of the police car.

“Fucking hell. That is my brother Doug.” Benjamin ran to his brother to get a closer look. He hoped he was wrong in thinking it was his brother, but he saw he was right. It was Doug. In hysterical tears Benjamin climbed onto the hood of the police car and lay next to his brother. “This night can’t be real. This can’t be real. Doug. Doug. Please don’t die.”

An image of Doug and Benjamin playing, rough housing, in the Apartment pool, flashed in Janet’s mind. Until that moment she had not realized they were her neighbors in the Minion Plex. Janet looked at the police officer and he looked at her. Janet said, “I think the woman he was with is in that abandoned building.”

Benjamin pulled his brother’s pants up. Benjamin said, “No one has to know he was in the alley with a whore. Do they? My parents would expect that from me or Bobby but not from Doug. People don’t have to know he was with a whore, do they?”

The police officer said, “It is not related to the case; the chase. As far as I am concerned he was just taking a piss in the alley.”

Janet eased closer to the police officer. She said, “The woman was Samantha Wilder. If the man driving the van is Stan Wakes, she is his girlfriend.”

“Shit, fuck. You are saying the woman pushed the kid in front of my car to stop the chase.”

“I don’t know that for sure. I can’t prove it. I don’t even know if Stan Wakes was the one driving the van. I didn’t see the driver. I just wanted you to know what happened here might be related to the case.”

Benjamin said, “So. A woman pushed Doug in front of the police car while he was taking a piss. You don’t have to say they were having sex in the alleyway. Do you?”

Janet said, “I didn’t see anyone having sex.”

The officer nodded. “God I wish EMS would get the fuck here.”

Benjamin asked, “To which hospital will he be taken. I’ve got to call my parents. I’ve got to let them know.”

“Grady. Then if your parents want him moved and if he is able, he can be moved to a different hospital.” The officer whispered to Janet, “Can you get the kid away from his brother. Tell him that you will drive him to the hospital. He doesn’t need to ride with his brother. There is a chance his brother will be DOA and the kid does not need to be there for that.”

Chapter 6

Alicia Silver stared at Tommy Harris. “Well that was a fine mess. It spoiled all of my fun. Still, it presents a puzzle. How shall I get around Amberline Darko’s spell so as to kill Steve Webster.”

Tommy said, “Why not just leave Steve alone?”

“No. The way I have it figured, if I were to shoot a bullet at Steve the bullet would come back to shoot me. I tried to use a serial killer to kill Steve and the serial killer tried to kill me. I wonder if I were to order you to kill Steve if then you would try to kill me. Is the spell so powerful that it would cause a betrayal even given our bond.”

“Please do not give such an order.”

“I can rescind the order. That was so proven with Kyle.”

“What if you can’t rescind it in time?”

“Do you honestly think you would be able to kill me?”

“I do not wish to anger you but still I fear I must warn you with a reminder. The mortal serial killer had you running.”

“But now I know to rescind the order.”

“True but please do not give me such an order.”

“I want you to suck the blood, the life from Jane Wilifar until she is near death. I want you to gain control of her so that she is your slave. Then you know what I wish for you to order her to do. You do know the order that I will not this moment mention.”

“Of course. I will make her my slave and I will order her to kill Steve Webster and then she will try to kill me.”

“I think the spell is specific to me.”

“And if you are wrong?”

“If she tries to kill you then you rescind the order.”

“So I guess that I am going to New York.”

* * *

Billy helped everyone settle into Hutch’s place. They very quickly discovered that all the interviews had been cancelled as someone had sent word that Kyle Kingerstone would not be available. Alicia indeed had used a spell to clean the murder scene of Kyle before the police arrived. No one knew that he was dead.

June Ross was rather pissed that her five minutes of fame had been cancelled. Then Hutch offered her a job at the magazine he had decided to buy from his friend. That made her very happy. Sissy and Howard were glad that they were going to have time to go site seeing around New York and not be bothered with having to prep for or do any media interviews. They had no desire to work or live in New York.

Steve drove over to Jane’s place. He would be staying with her. That was the plan. She greeted him at the door to her mansion with a smile and Steve remembered how much fun they’d had together. They had remained friends after her move, at first with frequent communications, but then they had grown apart and of course Steve did prefer men to women. Still, there had been a spark between the two. It was not a platonic relationship. Steve had enjoyed sex with Jane.

Steve came into the main room of the mansion. He looked around at the tasteful, conservative decor. Then his stare fixed upon Jane dressed in colorful, almost gaudy fashion. “I’ve never been here before. Still it seems so familiar. And that hippy like, 70’s dress you are wearing feels as though it is an ordinary part of your every day look though I suspect you have not changed that much. I’ve never seen you wearing that style and yet I think I have.” Steve took a deep breath. In an apprehensive voice he stated, “I’ve dreamed this moment before.”

Jane laughed. “And what happened next in this moment, your dream?”

Steve picked Jane up into his arms. He looked at the staircase. “Your bedroom is the first bedroom on the right at the top of the stairs and that is where I am going to carry you.” Steve carried her up the stairs. He gently laid her down on the bed. He crawled into the bed and lay next to her. He snuggled with her. He kissed her on the neck. Each side of her tender neck he kissed. There was no vampire mark and yet he thought there might be. Steve said, “Jane you are in danger. Do you believe in vampires?”

“No.”

Steve pulled out his cellphone. He called Billy. “You know how you told me about Tommy Harris being a vampire and that he was with Alicia Silver.”

Billy said, “Yes.”

“I think Jane is in jeopardy from him. I’ve had some kind of premonition. Jane is in danger.”

“What do you want me to do?”

“Come over here to her place. Stay here with us.”

“Okay.”

Steve and Billy hung up. Jane gave Steve a hard look. She got out of bed and walked over to her dresser. She began to brush her hair.

“I remember you brushing your hair that way when you were angry. I am sorry I have made you mad. I am scared for you.”

Jane said, “You should be scared for yourself.”

“Why? I don’t understand.”

Tommy stepped out of the closet. “I didn’t bite her. I just hypnotized her. I didn’t want to hurt her. I don’t want to hurt you but Alicia…”

Steve said, “But you will bite her. You will feed on her. That is what I saw. I didn’t see you coming out of the closet. I didn’t see this moment.”

Jane pulled a gun from her dresser drawer. She pointed the gun at Steve. She pulled the trigger. Her aim was off and the bullet struck into the wall. She fired another bullet and it vanished.

Tommy heard Alicia screaming in thought. “I am having to outrun this damn fucking bullet. Rescind the order. Rescind the order.”

Tommy screamed, “Order rescinded.”

Tommy then vanished and Jane passed out and fell to the floor. Steve picked Jane up into his arms. You are still in danger from the vampire witch and her slave. Steve put Jane into her bed. “I wish Billy would get here soon.”

* * *

When Billy arrived at Jane Wilfar’s Mansion he did not knock on the door as the door was not locked. He entered the mansion and called out for Steve. Steve walked to the top of the stairs and looked down at Billy.

Steve said, “Your friend Tommy Harris was here. He had Jane hypnotized to shoot me, When she shot at me, the bullet fired through the ether so that the Vampire Witch Alicia Silver had to run from the bullet.”

“Run from a bullet. She must be fast.”

“And dangerous. Do you know of a way to change the future so that Jane will not be bit by Tommy the Vampire?”

“I don’t know shit and I don’t know how to get the Legman to come out and protect you.”

Jane came out of her room. “What happened? Did I really try to shoot you or was that just a dream?”

“It was real. You were hypnotized but at least he didn’t bite you to make you his slave in that way.”

Jane looked down at Billy. “You were not lying when you told me how handsome Billy Bingo is. It would have been fun to have had a three-way with him.”

“What do you mean would have? It is still possible. We can ask?”

Jane shook her head no. “Steve, the main reason I wanted you to come here for my brother’s wedding is I wanted you to come here so I could tell you something.”

“What?” Steve asked.

“I have a cancer. I am dying. I might live another couple of years or I might die in just a few months.”

Steve wasn’t sure what to say. His heart sank. He mumbled, “There must be some way to save you?”

“No. The cancer has spread too far. My doctors have been honest with me. They say there is no hope.”

“My mom knows witches who have healing powers. When Billy is the Legman he might have healing powers. You can be healed.”

“No. I am ready to die.”

“Ready to die. That is a crazy bitch ass thing to think.”

Jane laughed. “You always did know the right thing to say. Not.”

Steve tried to sound tough but his voice cracked. “Don’t say you want to die. Now I wish Tommy had bit you and turned you into a vampire.”

Jane said, “I am tired and I am ready to leave this world. I believe in God. I believe in heaven. I am not afraid.”

“Please don’t give up on life.” Steve tried to joke. “As much as you like three-ways; I suspect three-ways are frowned upon in heaven.”

Jane shrugged. “I don’t know. When I think of heaven I always picture Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, and James Dean in a three-way. I sure would like to be Marilyn Monroe in that sandwich.”

The Legman whispered to Billy, “That girl is never going to make it to heaven but she will be welcomed to a good place. I will not let her be taken to hell.”

Billy whispered back to his inner-self. “Can you cure her cancer?”

The Legman whispered, “My magic cannot save someone who wants to die.”

Billy walked up the stairs. “They will not let you into heaven.”

Steve screamed, “Billy! You of all people should not judge. Why would you say such a thing to someone who is dying?”

Billy ignored Steve but focused on Jane. He told her, “You can be cured but only if you want to live. Tell me, why do you want to die?”

“I am ready to die but that does not mean that I want to die.”

“But you do.” Billy said as the Legman emerged and Billy became the Legman. “If you want to live I can cure you; but the truth is that you do not want to live. Tell me what is so awful that you have given up on life.”

“If you know so much then you tell me.”

The Legman thought a moment. “You were pregnant with Steve’s son and you had an abortion. That has preyed on your mind, on your sanity, to the point that you wish yourself dead. I can put your son back inside of you. You can have a happy son. Will that make you want to live?”

“What if I am not a good mother? What if I am such a bad mother I hurt him worse than even not allowing him to be born?”

“You are providing a vessel for a soul that already is and that soul is as reluctant to want life as you are reluctant to give it. He is scared just as you are scared.”

“Why?”

“His last life was not a very pleasant life. Truth is, there is some comfort when we are in the shadows of death. On some level you remember that peaceful calm; that resting sleep of death. It can be nice when all is calm just as it can be scary when the shadows frolic and the heathen rage. Even as horrifying as the shadows can be, earth can also seem a creepy, intimidating abode of human tragedy and painful shackles that create memories haunting even into the shadows of death. The lives we live on earth can make the shadows that much more frightening. There is the fear of what is in the shadows and there is the fear of what might be in life. It is that fear, and dare I say regret, that freezes both of you in a moment of time that is your sorrow and your shame.”

“Sorrow? Shame? It is more a fear that rest in self doubt that caused my decision I sometimes do regret. I doubted and do doubt that I can be a good mother. What if I can’t give him a pleasant life? What if I raise him to be a failure or worse: a criminal. What if I raise him to be a serial killer or even more nightmarish, the President of the United States?”

“To show him grace. To love him. To help him find the light. That will be pleasant enough and you will have help.”

“You are that powerful of a witch. You can honestly put my baby back inside of me.”

“I can and if you want to live, I can help you to live. What is your choice? The choice is yours.”

Jane smiled at Steve. “Dear, are you ready to be a father?”

Steve grabbed Jane up into his arms and together they spun round with smiles and laughter.

So the Legman placed the baby back inside of Jane and her cancer vanished.

Steve told Jane, “So I guess we should plan a wedding.”

Jane shook her head no. “I want you to be the father of my baby and be a good father. I want us to have a closeness and keep the love we have always shared alive. To some, I guess, marriage is a beautiful thing but it is not for us. You will find someone who has a dick between their legs who will share your home and I…. Well, I don’t know if I will ever find a love greater than my love for you but I will look.”

The Legman asked, “So what of the man who left you alone, dying, in this place you chose to be your tomb?”

“Do I need to tell you? Can’t you just know it.”

“You do not need to tell me. You do not need to tell Steve?”

“Tell me what?” Steve asked.

Jane whispered, “Tell him.”

“He tried to kill her. He stole money from her. He kept her a virtual prisoner here until her brother discovered what was happening?”

Steve screamed, “I will kill him. What is his name? If you do not tell me, I will find it out.”

The Legman said, “He is a ghost now. He is in this room. If he does not leave this place soon his ghost will find the angels of hell coming for him.”

Jane said, “I felt he has been haunting me, but my health has been fragile and with that my sanity.”

The Legman nodded. “He is gone now. He knows not to return.”

Steve said, “I am still afraid for Jane. I still can’t forget that premonition where I saw Tommy Harris bite Jane.”

“Every time he or any vampire tries to bite her they will be returned to their coffin. I do not wish Tommy to be hurt. I think there is hope for him.”

The Legman then vanished back into Billy and Billy emerged. Billy remembered not what had been said or had transpired. Steve told him some of it but not all of it. Steve now fully understood that Billy was not just a witch but a great deal more. How much more he could only guess in fantasy. A lesser god? A hand for the greater God? In early days the visages of the lesser gods were partly for their pleasure but even then they played a part in a greater destiny. New ages are not forged by mortals or even witches. They are forged by the lesser gods in agreement with the One God. When they come to earth there is indeed something afoot. That is what Steve’s mother had told him. Linda had asked her son what purpose Steve thought Billy might serve. Steve had no idea. At the time the conversation had seemed somewhat silly as at that time he did not know that which his mother would later teach him.

Steve stared at Billy as did Jane. They both knew they were with a great one and yet as Billy he seemed somewhat ordinary. Steve said, “The Legman has helped us in ways we know he is not an ordinary witch.”

Billy nodded.

“A lesser god does not come to earth to just be Billy Bingo.” Steve paused as he considered his words. “Some say lesser gods come to earth to forge a new age. What do you think the new age might be like that the gods are planning?”

“I don’t know. You should have asked the Legman.”

Steve smiled. “I doubt he would have answered. Still, I have my curiosity as I feel I am on the cusp of being part of something great, but I don’t know what. I had heard things that had made me think the Legman was something of a hood. Dangerous. Then there he was with us and I saw a kindness about him. He helped us.”

“I am glad he helped you. Understand though I was the one who was the gang member, the hood. I was the one who was dangerous. I was the one who had murder in my heart for what was done to my mother.”

Jane said, “You are the same person. He is somewhere inside you and you are somewhere inside him. I know you are both good.”

“I hope that is who I am. Good. Good both in wanting to help people as well as having the skill to help them. Still, I have a military mind and I look at adversaries as a potential conquest on a battlefield.” Billy was not sure why he would have said such a thing to Jane. Billy questioned himself. “Are those my words or the Legman’s words?”

Howard told Billy and Raymond, “You two share that bed and I will sleep in this bed. Now I don’t want you two doing any of that gay shit while I am in the room.”

Billy said, “I will sleep in this bed. Raymond will sleep in that bed. And you can sleep on a cot I will have them bring in.”

Howard said, “Explain to me again why I should not rent my own room and not have to share a room with you two sissy boys.”

Billy said, “Because you, who thinks with your pecker, helped get a serial killer released from prison and it is up to us sissy boys to keep you alive.”

Howard frowned and hit a table at the front window with his fist. “I keep telling you he isn’t guilty. Sissy and June proved that he isn’t guilty.”

Raymond said, “They proved that the case had flaws. They proved that the judge made errors. They proved the D.A. made errors. They proved there was a level of reasonable doubt given the case that was presented. That hardly means that Kyle Kingsterone is not a serial killer.”

Howard said, “Most everyone now thinks he is innocent, that is, except for you two asshole nut jobs.”

Billy called the front desk to get a cot brought up. He then ordered a pizza be delivered both to their room and the Devlin room. Still fully dressed Billy settled into his bed to work on a crossword puzzle and to watch a silly sitcom on TV. Raymond opened up a book to read as he settled in at the table across from his nephew.

Howard asked, “Since you two are gay I guess you love Obama.”

Raymond looked at his nephew. “Please. Obama is just George Bush 2.0 with an Hawaiian tan.”

Howard asked, “Billy what do you think?”

“It doesn’t matter what I think. I don’t have a magic wand to control the world.”

Raymond laughed as Billy and Raymond gave one another an odd look. Howard noticed their strange glances but decided he would not explore what the inside joke might be.

Howard asked, “So Billy, what do you think of my girlfriend?” Howard had noticed when they were checking into the Hotel that Billy was eyeballing his girlfriend and her aunt.

“Sissy is beautiful and her aunt is also quite the knockout and exquisite. I think you should stop being such an asshole to your uncle and fix him up with her Aunt. “

Howard laughed. “Willow is not a man in drag. She does not have a dick.”

“Raymond is divorced from a woman. You know when you assume Raymond might not be interested in a classy, beautiful woman just makes you an ass.”

Howard looked at his Uncle. He started to say something but then he didn’t. He thought a second. “Well, she is a nice lady and even if you are not interested in her sexually she probably would be a good friend to you. Sissy was telling me that she has been lonely since her roommate moved out. If the occasion arises I will try to get you two to do things together.”

Raymond asked, “Willow isn’t seeing anyone?”

“No,” Howard answered.

Billy asked, “So what was her last boyfriend like? Do you know?”

“I don’t know. Since I have been seeing Sissy, as far as I know Willow hasn’t been dating. Sissy has been worried about her being alone. Sissy didn’t really like Willow’s roommate. She told me that the roommate was a rough woman and always had a really bad haircut. Still, even though Sissy didn’t like the woman she now wishes the roommate had not moved out because her Aunt has been so sad, in a total funk, since then.”

“I have been in something of a funk myself.” Then Billy thought a second. Billy laughed. “Wait. Sissy didn’t like the roommate because she was quote, rough, and she had a really bad haircut.”

Raymond said, “Yeah, Billy, you caught Sissy’s code-speak too, didn’t you?”

Howard asked, “What?”

Raymond grinned. “Yeah, my nephew is not the sharpest knife in the drawer but I guess I love him anyway.”

“Okay. I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer. What are you two saying?”

Billy stared at Howard. “We are saying that we think Willow is not so different from Raymond and me and that your girlfriend should not use crude stereotypes to describe someone.”

Howard was about to say something when there was a knock on the door. “Whatever.” Howard rolled his eyes as he opened the door. Seeing Sissy standing behind the bellboy and pizza delivery man, Howard stepped out to be with his girlfriend. Billy and Raymond both went to the door.

A bellboy brought the cot in and for a tip set it up under Billy’s directions while Raymond handled the pizza delivery man who quickly left. Willow and June came into the room with Howard and Sissy laughing and joking about something. After Billy was finished helping to get the cot set up and the bellboy had left, Billy got a piece of pizza and a drink from the fridge and crawled back into his bed. Willow got a slice of pizza and a drink and crawled into the bed with Billy while June crawled into Raymond’s bed. Raymond handed her a drink and a slice of pizza while he got his own. Raymond then sat back down at the table. Howard and Sissy got their food and drinks and snuggled together on the cot.

Willow asked Billy, “So do you really think we are all in danger from Kyle?”

“I don’t know, but we do not want to take any chances.” Billy asked, “So is Kyle going to be on the plane with us?”

June shook her head. She frowned. “Some more detective.”

Willow said, “No. He is on the no fly list. He will be traveling to New York by train.”

“Oh. I was kind of hoping to meet him in person to try to size him up. Willow, have you met him?”

“Yes. Yes. I have.”

“What did you think about him?”

“I would totally like to take my niece’s side and say your sister is all wrong, but I am not sure. There is something off about him. There is a reason the jury found him guilty and it obviously was not because of what a great job the D.A. did.”

Sissy said, “He was totally charming to you. He is as nice as he can be. I can’t believe he would hurt a fly.”

“Honey, I could be totally wrong and you are right. I am just being honest with Billy. And the truth is that I do not trust people who are overly smooth and appear friendly even when you insult them. Like if I give you some kind of yo mama, give me a yo mama back. Tangle with me. Dance with me. Don’t send a chill down my spine with a smile.”

Howard said, “Well, I understand that. Raymond sometimes gives me that smile.”

Raymond threw his head back to look at the ceiling. “When I do tangle with you in disagreement you storm off to insult me to your father, my brother, with whom I want to continue to be on speaking terms.”

Willow nodded. “Well, I understand that. My roommate used to do that toward the end of us living together. And I am sure I do that when I really do not want to fight with someone I love.”

Billy agreed. “Yes. We all do the friendly when sometimes we’d rather fight but then we don’t really want to fight because we know it will just make a situation worse.”

Willow said, “Exactly, but this is different with Kyle. I guess I am not explaining it very well. And maybe if I didn’t know he had once been a convicted serial killer I might look at his mannerisms differently.”

June said, “Well, I think he is innocent.”

Sissy said, “Yeah, we would not have worked that hard to get him freed if we thought he were guilty.”

Willow screamed, “Oh my God. The three of you worked maybe two days on this project. Some anonymous person gave you all the information you used.” Willow mocked her niece, “Worked so hard.” Willow bit into her slice of pizza and took a drink. “I worked harder in college to get laid than you worked to get this serial killer released. That in itself should clue you in that something is not right here. Who the hell do you think you are? Steve Jobs and Bill Gates being escorted through the xerox labs so the illuminati can make you rich and famous. Someone was using you.”

Sissy screamed, “What? Who the hell are Steve Jobs and Bill Gates and what the hell does that even mean? You are always saying things that do not make any sense to me.”

Howard said, “She is trying to make you feel dumb. Raymond does that to me all of the time. Your Aunt never wanted you to do this project.”

Willow nodded. “You got that last part right. I did not want her to do the project and I sure as hell did not want her to start dating you.” Willow slapped Billy on the leg. “The girl never listens to me.”

Smiling, Raymond observed quietly the different banter between the people in the room. Even the disagreements made him feel silently joyful. Then Billy began to notice Raymond. He knew Raymond did not have many friends beyond family and Billy’s parents and maybe one or two co-workers and of course Hutch. Then Billy thought that was probably more than he, himself, had.

Billy asked Raymond, “What are you smiling about?”

“I like this. This is so much better than sitting home alone and watching reruns on Television.”

“I guess.” Billy asked, “So Willow, do you have much of a social life.”

“Hell no. Why do you think I jumped at the chance of going to New York with my niece. So Billy, what about you? Are you a regular social butterfly?”

Raymond said, “Billy has been mending a broken heart. The woman he loves married someone else.”

Howard questioned, “Woman?”

Willow smiled. “Howard was telling me that you and Billy are gay.”

“I thought gay men are only friends with gay men.”

Billy said, “That is stupid but I am bisexual as is Raymond.”

Howard screamed, “Please. Raymond is totally into guys. Bisexual is just a term used by gay men who refuse to accept they prefer men to women or do not want people to think of them as queer.”

Raymond said, “I guess there was a time I did care what people think but that was not the reason I married. I loved my wife. Then that divorce was so messy and she lied. I did not have an affair with a man. I was faithful to her.”

Willow smiled at Raymond. “I know what you mean. My roommate started making up all kind of crazy shit about me.”

Billy asked, “Why would your roommate do that?”

Willow looked at her niece and became quiet. She didn’t answer Billy’s question.

Sissy finally spoke up. “The bitch was going to do a palimony suit against Aunt Willow. My father finally gave her $50,000 to get lost and she took it.”

“My brother gave her money?”

“She was hurting you and it was going to get worse. Please do not tell him that I told you.”

“No. I won’t. So you know?”

Howard’s mouth fell open and he rolled his eyes as he looked at Billy. He then looked at his Uncle. “Rough and bad haircut is code-speak for lesbian. I totally did not understand that.”

Sissy punched Howard and laughed. “You are so stupid but I love you anyway.”

Howard stared at Sissy. “Love.” Then he felt butterflies in his stomach. “This is love. I do love you.” Howard kissed Sissy hard on the lips. “No matter how stupid I am, please don’t stop loving me.”

Willow almost teared up. “Fuck. Hell. Even I am starting to like the dumb little Nazi.” Then Willow pulled a picture of her roommate from her billfold and showed it to Billy. “That really is not that bad of a haircut.”

“Keeping a picture of your X. That is like self torture.”

“So show me a picture of Rachel.”

Billy reached into back pocket and pulled out his billfold. He pulled out a picture or Rachel with Dirk. He showed the picture to Willow but both Sissy and June moved from the cot and the bed to sneak a peek.

Willow said, “Is that the guy she married? You a keep a picture of her with her husband?”

“I consider them both family and I would die for either one of them.”

June said, “Die for them. Shit. If I saw my X drowning I think I would stand on the shore and wave goodbye.”

Sissy punched her friend. “You would not. I know about that loan you gave him the other day.”

June rubbed her arm. “I don’t know why I did that. I don’t love him. I don’t even like him. I guess old habits are hard to break.” Then June took the picture from Billy and took a closer look at it. “Oh my God, they were in the society page. Fucking rich. Huge wedding. So Billy boy, you are well connected. I didn’t realize.”

Howard walked over to look at the picture. He commented, “She is not that pretty.”

Billy took the picture back from June and Howard. “I don’t know why I love her. There is a lot about me that I don’t really understand.”

Howard eased back to the cot with Sissy. Sitting back down he told Billy. “I don’t always understand why I do shit either; but it sometimes works out.” Howard kissed Sissy.

Willow fell asleep in Billy’s arms. Sissy fell asleep in Howard’s arms. June returned to Raymond’s bed alone and fell asleep. Raymond got up and left the room, planning to sleep in the Devlin Hotel room.

* * *

Kyle Kingsterone thought he was the most lucky man in the world. One day he was sitting in isolation on death row and the next day he was signing a bunch of papers and being let out of prison as though it were all just a dream. He didn’t much like that he had to play nice with the college kids responsible. It sort of pissed him off that he had to go to New York to talk to various journalist and media people.

Before he realized that he was on a no fly list, he had rented a room at the Hotel next to the airport. It was not that far from the Train Station and he decided it was just as good of a place as any to stay until time for his scheduled departure.

He thought he was dreaming when the witch vampire Alicia Silver appeared, as from thin air, into his room. Then when he realized that he was indeed awake he imagined she was akin to the tooth fairy, a magical creature, and he thought how much fun he might have killing the tooth fairy.

Kyle saw Alicia in the mirror as she appeared at his back. Nude, Kyle continued shaving with a straight razor. Their eyes met in the mirror and the thought of Dracula meeting Frankenstein amused Alicia. She laughed. Alicia said, “So dear boy do you want to thank your fairy godmother for casting the spell that got you released from death row.” Actually her work had been more technical through the college kids than magical.

“Not particularly. So what is in it for you? What is your game?”

Alicia was somewhat befuddled at Kyle’s non-reaction to her appearing in his room through magic. She said, “Straight to the point. No sense of fun. I bet you did not even get one ounce of pleasure from all those people you murdered.”

“You would lose that bet. What is your game?”

Alicia caused an image of Steve Webster to appear in the mirror. If you can kill this man before a friend of mine can kill you, then I will let you live.”

“You will let me live?” There was the sound of derision and a challenge to her authority in his voice.

“Well, I will turn you into a vampire which is sort of living but not technically.”

Now Alicia did not know that Linda’s friend, Amberline Darko, had put a spell in place to protect Steve from Alicia or that Kyle would so be effected by any such spell to place Alicia, herself, in danger. Regardless he was effected and the moment Alicia gave the kill order to Kyle, Kyle turned to point his straight razor toward Alicia. Alicia quickly reacted to Kyle’s threatening her with the razor. She attempted to use her magic against Kyle but her magic did not work.

Backing away from Kyle, Alicia screamed, “Fucking hell. Tommy! I need you. Bring our swords.” The mighty sword had always been Alicia’s favorite weapon; even when not fighting other witches. Alicia repeated, “Bring our swords.”

Kyle also preferred using a sword and dropped his razor to the floor. One of the first things that Kyle had done when he was released from prison, as soon as he could lose the college kids who had gotten him released, was to go to a junk / collectible store and buy a sword for himself. As Alicia watched, Kyle rushed to his hanging clothes bag and pulled his own sword from it. Alicia slowly, sneaky like, moved from the bathroom. Her intent was to reach the door to exit the Hotel Room but she had to pass by Kyle first.

Kyle laughed as he swung his sword in her direction. The tip of the sword missed impact against her flesh but by a gnat’s hair. “So tooth fairy, do you want to die by the sword? Killing you with the sharp edged cut from this beautiful sword of mine will so please me.”

Alicia tried to vanish. She could not. “Tommy, get your ass here. My magic is not working against this monster.”

Feeling the terror and the horror emanating from his master, Tommy screamed back to Alicia. “Crazy bitch, run. I am not a witch. Even though we are fast, we vampires can not just snap our fingers and be somewhere. You get your ass out of there”

Alicia dodged the mad, wild swings of Kyle’s sword toward her head. She made her way toward the door. She opened the door. She picked up a chair next to the door and threw it at Kyle as she ran along the balcony in her gothic flowing gown. “Why couldn’t I have chosen today to have worn my sexy short, shorts.”

Nude and holding a sword, Kyle chased after Alicia.

Alicia glanced back at the monster chasing after her, “Yeah, you just keep on swinging that sword. I hope you cut your dick off.”

* * *

Raymond had just left his Hotel Room with Billy and Howard when Alicia ran toward him with the nude Kyle chasing after her and swinging the sword. Raymond backed into the Hotel room and he screamed, “Kyle is out here naked and trying to kill some woman.”

June rolled over in Raymond’s bed. With her eyes closed she moaned, “I am pretty sure Kyle has a room closer to the Train Station. Must be someone else.”

Raymond looked at June with his Matthew Perry look of befuddlement. “Must be someone else? How many killers do you think are running around?” Then he stared at Kyle staring at him. “Oh hell.”

Willow and Billy both jumped out of bed. They saw Raymond backing away from Kyle who now had turned his attention from Alicia toward Raymond. Kyle wasn’t exactly threatening Raymond with the sword but it was not clear what he was planning. Kyle looked confused. Billy dived to move between Raymond and Kyle, to protect Raymond.

When Alicia saw that Kyle wasn’t chasing her she stopped. Thinking the danger might be over she walked back to where Kyle stood with Billy but she made sure she remained where Kyle could not strike her with his sword. From where she stood she could see Billy and she also could see Willow. Willow and she stared into each other’s eyes.

Billy told Kyle, “You do not want to hurt Raymond. You don’t.”

“No. It would be fun to kill him but right now it is this Tooth Fairy woman I want to kill. I can’t allow this woman, this Tooth Fairy, to make me kill Steve Webster. Killing him is not allowed. I must kill this woman.”

“What?”

“I am not repeating myself.” Kyle swung his sword, again trying to kill Alicia but he missed. Alicia screamed, “Help me.” She continued screaming as she took off running.

Kyle ran fast after Alicia.

Billy told Raymond to stay and protect the girls. “I am going to see if I can stop him.”

Raymond said, “Billy. Protect your head. Remember.”

As Billy rushed after Kyle, Billy screamed back to Raymond. “I know. Son of a bitch would have a sword.”

Billy ran to catch up with Kyle. “Stop this now. We will not report it,” Billy told him.

Kyle cried. “I can’t stop it. I can’t stop. It is forbidden that Steve Webster be killed. I don’t know who he is. I don’t know what this is about. I just know when she showed me a picture of Steve Webster in the mirror and told me to kill him then something snapped.”

Billy and Kyle ran side by side. “I don’t know who this woman is that you are chasing but I can not allow you to kill her.”

Accidentally, Alicia ran into a dead end alleyway with no way to escape Kyle. Billy and Kyle both stood with Alicia when Tommy Harris appeared next to her. Tommy had been running fast enough to appear invisible but when he stopped running to save Alicia it was the same as if he had appeared as though through magic. Tommy held two large swords. He quickly tossed one of the swords to Alicia.

Billy stared at Tommy Harris. “You are alive. You aren’t dead?”

Tommy said, “I am a vampire.” His explanation was simple, to the point, and oddly the truth.

Tommy and Alicia both took a stance to fight Kyle. Tommy told Billy, “Billy, get out of here. Just get out of here. When she is finished killing Kyle she is just as likely to try to kill you.”

Kyle spit. “That Tooth Fairy witch can’t kill me so long as she is trying to give me orders to kill Steve Webster.”

Alicia laughed. “Of course.” Alicia slapped her forehead. “So I rescind that order.”

Dizzy, dazed, confused, Kyle fell to ground on his knees. Alicia swung her sword and cut his head off. His head rolled on the ground as blood spewed from his throat.

Alicia laughed, “Dumb bastard.” Then Alicia looked at Tommy. “I can’t believe Linda Webster thought to have Amberline Darko put a spell in place to protect Steve. That spoiled all of our fun.”

Alicia stared at Billy and through Billy she saw the aura of an old adversary. That was something she hadn’t expected to see. When people had warned her about Billy and the Legman she had been dismissive; but now she saw her old enemy and she knew their warnings were not wrong.

Alicia and Tommy vanished, leaving Billy standing in the alley with a headless corpse. Sirens blared as the Legman took control of Billy and then with the snap of his fingers took Billy out of the alley and back near his Hotel Room. It was Billy, not the Legman, who walked into the room. Everyone asked Billy what had happened.

“The woman used a sword and she cut Kyle’s head off. Before the police showed up we both got out of there and left the police to find what they will find.”

Sissy said, “You can’t do that. You have to go back. You have to tell the police what happened.”

Howard shouted. “The hell he does. We got a damned fucking serial killer the hell out of jail and now you want my Uncle’s friend to put himself in a position where he might get arrested. Hell, fucking no.”

June said, “He is more likely to get into trouble by fleeing the scene of a crime.”

Billy asked, “Did any of you call 911?”

June said, “No. Raymond and Willow would not let us call the police. Raymond insisted you would be able to handle it and for some reason Willow agreed.”

Billy gave a thankful glance at Willow and saw the tears streaming down her face. Willow said, “Tell us the truth. Tell us. Forget what the girls are saying. They will tell no one.”

Billy said, “They are studying to be journalist.”

“And they need to learn now what to report and what not to report.”

“Look. You really want to know the truth of the matter.” Billy thought a moment and was not even sure where he was getting the full truth of the matter from. He had not consciously fully thought out what the hell had just happened. Still, he told the truth. It spewed from his mouth. “A witch fed you three information to get a serial killed freed. She intended to use the serial killer to kill Steve Webster but Steve Webster was protected by another witch so when she gave the order, the serial killer began trying to kill her. In an alleyway, after a vampire she controls showed up with two swords, she realized to get her powers back all she needed to do was rescind the order to kill Steve Webster. After she did that she then cut the head of Kyle Kingsterone off. She beheaded him. She and the vampire vanished and I got the hell out of there. If I left any DNA evidence in the alley—the alley is probably filled with the DNA of all sorts of people—and the police come after me—I will deal with it.”

Sissy looked at Raymond. “My God, your friend is totally insane. He believes in witches and vampires.”

Howard stared at his girlfriend. “I love you. I seriously do. And I know you are one of the smartest people I have ever known, but the world is not what you think it is.”

Willow stood with tears still streaming down her face as she listened to Billy. Willow said, “We all could have been killed.” Willow bit at her lips. “I looked into the eyes of that woman; that witch. Those were the most evil eyes I have ever seen. I do not doubt for a second that she was a witch. That she is a witch. And what Billy is not telling us is that he is also a witch. Raymond told Billy to protect his head. A witch can only be killed by beheading or fire.”

Billy stared at Willow. “I don’t know why I told you all as much as I did. This must not be repeated.”

Willow nodded. “I know. No one beyond these walls will know of this day. Thank you for saving us.”

“I don’t think you all were in much danger. June, Sissy, and Howard were just being used. I don’t think they or you were ever the target.”

June and Sissy stared at one another. They weren’t sure what to say.

Howard said, “Billy, thank you for saving us. And can you use your magic to help me get a Mustang that I have been wanting?”

Raymond rubbed the hair of his nephew. “The magic does not work that way.”

June said, “Okay, Kyle is dead. We were supposed to make appearances with him in New York. How should we handle this?”

Billy said, “Until you are notified of his death, you continue the same as if you thought he were still alive.”

* * *

On the airplane Billy Bingo sat in the middle seat between Raymond Bing and Willow Devlin. Howard Bing sat in the middle seat between his girlfriend Sissy Devlin and June Ross.

Howard whispered to Sissy. “I sure would like us to go back to the restroom and become a member of the Mile High Club.”

June heard what Howard said, “You are gross. God, all of you men are just so nasty. I think I will become a Nun.”

Raymond laughed. “I think Nuns have more sex than I do.”

Willow asked Billy. “Are you a member of the Mile High Club?”

Billy shrugged. “Does sucking your own dick in the restroom count?”

Willow’s eyes widened. “Oh my God. You are limber enough to contortion yourself to be able to suck your own cock?”

Raymond nodded. “Well, in fairness you do not have to be that limber when you are hung like a horse.”

Howard looked around at Billy. “I think if I were a witch I probably would make my dick big enough to do that—right after I cast a spell for a new Mustang.”

Steve Webster turned from where he was seated near the front of the plane and saw Billy and Raymond. He walked back and asked the passenger seated behind Billy if he would mind swapping seats. He agreed. The Stewardess started to stop the swap but then shrugged and pretended like she didn’t see the seat swap.

Steve told Billy, “I didn’t see you on the plane. Why are you and Raymond going to New York?”

“It is complicated. I called your mom and told her some things. Has she talked to you?”

“She has been trying to talk to me but for some reason we keep getting disconnected.”

“Some witch got a serial killer released from jail and she was going to have him kill you. The killer has been stopped but the witch is still out there. I have no idea why she wants you dead. Linda and Amberline cast a spell to protect you from this witch which is why the serial killer turned against the witch instead of going after you.”

Steve said, “I would guess the witch is Alicia Silver. She is the one who killed my grandmother.”

Billy asked, “Why? Why did she kill your grandmother?”

“Mom will have to explain it to you. Like you said, it is complicated.” Steve changed the subject. Steve asked, “So are you and Raymond a couple now?”

Howard laughed. “See. I am not the only one who thought that.”

Raymond said, “That is my nephew there. I asked Billy to go with us to help protect my nephew and his friends from the serial killer they got released from prison.”

Steve noticed Willow. He asked, “Are you with them?”

“Yes. My niece dates Raymond’s Nazi Nephew.”

Howard moaned, “I am not a Nazi. That was just a phase. But come on, you have to admit Germany was totally fucked over by the Oligarchs following WWI.”

Steve laughed. “Shoot. I hated history. There is no way I could debate that with you.”

Billy asked, “So why are you going to New York?”

Steve said, “Do you remember me talking about my old girlfriend Jane Wilifar?”

Billy nodded. “Yeah.”

“Well, I am going to escort her to her brother’s wedding. She invited me.”

“So what about Bobby White? What does he think about you going to visit your old girlfriend?”

“He is going to take a job in Hotville and work with his cousin for his Uncle. He is going to be living in their mansion. I want to say that we are going to continue being whatever we are but I don’t know.” Steve thought a second. “So where are you going to be staying in New York?”

“Hutch invited us to stay at his mansion. Do you know where that is?”

“Yes. Actually, I think Jane’s mansion is not too far from there.”

Howard moaned. “So shit. Like all of you fucking assholes are rich.”

Sissy elbowed Howard. “Don’t insult the people. Be friendly with them. They might help you someday earn the money that I will so richly deserve as your wife.”

Steve said, “Billy, I thought you were all depressed and sad and moping over Rachel. Looks like you are with a fun group of people.”

Billy said, “They are totally great. However, I wouldn’t exactly call chasing a serial killer trying to kill a witch and then discovering an old friend is a vampire and also discovering another friend is in danger, fun.”

Howard again whispered to Sissy. “Come on, go with me to the restroom so we can join the Mile High Club before the plane lands.”

Willow told Billy, “What do you say you and I rush to the restroom first and you know? I seriously want to see how big your cock is?”

Billy laughed, “I am game?”

Steve said, “I hate to be a wet blanket but since 9-11 people have got into serious trouble trying to have sex in the toilet. It is really not as much fun as you might think. I tell you what is cool and that is having sex in the cockpit of a small plane.”

Billy said, “It slipped my mind that you are pilot. Why are you flying commercial?”

“Dirk’s plane was tied up and Mom’s plane was tied up and I don’t have a plane of my own. Plus I have had some financial set backs and it is cheaper to fly commercial.”

Howard asked, “So if we could come up with the money could we rent a plane and you fly us back without having to fly commercial?”

“Dirk’s plane is in New York and he is going to need it in Hotville so I was planning on flying it back to Hotville and then I was going to drive back to Atlanta. If shedules are such you all are welcome to fly with me.”

Billy asked, “So Dirk and Rachel are in Hotville?”

“No, they are in Florida but they will be in Hotville by the time I get the plane there. Dirk and his father have some clients with whom they are working out some kind of real estate deal and shit. The real estate is located in Hotville. Do you know the Sloth family?”

Billy laughed. “You know I do not know anybody. So you said that Bobby is going to be moving to and working in Hotville?”

“Yeah. I was talking to Dirk and he said that he might be able to get mom and me some contracts there. The thing is they are tied in with the Sloth family and the Sloth family and the White family do not like one another so I don’t know. Do you think I need to back off and give Bobby some space? Am I crowding him?”

Billy said, “I don’t know. I haven’t talked to him lately but I will. It is kind of like what Howard was saying earlier. Bobby and I are not rich and I can’t speak for Bobby but for myself it does sometimes make me feel inferior. So then I wonder how can I prove myself. On the one hand I know that Rachel dated Dirk first and they have a history. Still, see if I was of a mind to try to win Rachel away from Dirk, I know she is better off with him. I am a mess. Bobby may just feel like he is a mess and wants to prove some things.”

“Bobby did not react well when I was talking to Jane and when on the phone Jane asked if I was in a relationship and idiot me thought it was funny to ask Bobby if we were in a relationship. I do not know what the hell I was thinking but it hurt Bobby.”

Willow said, “It is kind of good not to race into a relationship. With my partner it was like we were having a one night stand, at least that is what I thought, and then she was living with me before I knew what the hell was happening. And I thought this feels good and feels right. I started having real feelings for her. I thought the relationship was good. Then the next thing I know she is threatening me with a palimony suit.”

Steve said, “Bobby would never do that to me. There was a period where he was something of a slacker and he might have had a little hustle in his bustle but not now. He used to joke about living off my money but when I took a hit in the stock market he very quickly started paying his own way for everything and without me even mentioning I was having problems.”

Sissy nibbled at Howard’s ear. “I am getting nervous about New York.” Sissy whispered, “I wonder if the news media now knows that Kyle Kingerstone is dead?”

Steve asked, “Who killed Kyle?”

Billy said, “The witch who was trying to get him to kill you.”

Steve said, “I would guess Alicia cast a spell to clean the crime scene before the police got there.”

Billy said, “When I first told you about things, you didn’t even believe in witches and now you seem to know things.”

“Yeah, mother has been telling me about my family history and even teaching me some things. I have some powers but nothing like you are capable of doing. Mother told me about the Legman.”

Billy nodded. “So why does this Alicia want you dead?”

“I would rather my mom talk to you about that when the time is right because there is something that you are not going to like. You have to know though that we are your friends. We think of you as family. Please do not ever doubt that.”

Billy said, “Okay. I know your mom is friends with my real mom. I trust that. I can’t imagine what you might tell me where I might doubt your friendship for even a second.”

Steve shrugged. “You will learn in time.” Steve thought back. “When you came to me and started telling me about stuff, it was hard for me to accept. Now, you are right. It is now part of who I am. I just accept that there is this totally crazy vampire witch out there who wants mom and me dead.”

Willow said, “That is scary. The first time I encountered a witch I was in college. My dorm roommate was dating a really bad ass witch. My gut told me to stay away from him but there was something about him. I was drawn to him. Then it happened. I had a three-way with him and my roommate. Having sex with him and my roommate was the first time I realized I was bisexual or lesbian or whatever you want to call it.”

Billy asked, “What was his name?”

“Kane Bishop and her name was Sylvia Trundle.”

“So you and I have had a three-way with the same couple. It is a fucking small world.”

An elderly woman walked up to Billy. “My friend and I could not help but be listening to your talking.”

Billy said, “We are just role playing. It is a game.”

The elderly woman laughed and turned back to her friend. “It is some kind of game. Role playing.”

Her friend and several people on the plane laughed. “Oh. Sure. Young people and their games.”

Chapter 4 – Billy Bingo: When The Legman Comes

Chapters

Janet Silverton was still unpacking her things. She had only recently moved into her new Apartment she had rented at the Minion Plex. What brought her to the Minion was that Billy Bingo had become a person of interest to her.

Text Book:

Renowned for being THE definitive resource for homicide investigators, Practical Homicide Investigation: Tactics, Procedures, and Forensic Techniques details the recognized protocols used by investigative divisions of major police departments throughout the world. The text is used in most police academies, including the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

____________

Informant, Bug Carlisle, was trying to get a friend Olivia Destone released from jail. She was potentially looking at up to five years in jail for a drug charge. Olivia had called up her friend Judge Haskel to pull strings for her, but his wife’s response to the call was that if she ever called again then Olivia could expect to be killed behind bars. So Olivia had to resort to using Bug Carlisle.

Bug Carlisle first went to Detective Face. Someone had told Bug that Detective Face was the one to approach since Detective Face had been the one to work the case of Kane Bishop’s death. Bug hoped to work out a deal for Olivia by giving Detective Face evidence that Billy Bingo was the one who killed Kane Bishop. He suggested that pictures exist of Billy Bingo being at the old Harris place shortly before Kane had been electrocuted by the VCR. Detective Face responded to the information by throwing Bug out of his office. As it happened Janet Silverton and her Aunt Tess Favor were in the police station doing some unrelated research for a book that Tess was writing and Bug fell right at their feet. Angrily he had got up to leave and didn’t realize a copy of a picture he had wanted to show Detective Face had fallen out of his pocket. No one noticed the picture until Tess went to pick up her pocketbook and the picture was laying right there. On the back of the picture was written:

“Billy Bingo was at the Harris Home when Kane Bishop was electrocuted.”

Janet Silverton accessed the computer at the police station where she worked. She could find no mention of Billy in the normal databases. Her Aunt Tess mentioned a lesser known database she had seen mentioned on some hacker website. Reluctantly Janet used a backdoor to enter the database and Billy Bingo was mentioned there. That database listed Billy Bingo as a person of interest in the deaths of George Destone, Tommy Harris, Clarice Harris, and Kane Bishop. So Janet Silverton decided to follow Billy Bingo around. The problem was that Billy seemed to hardly go anywhere and the people who came and went from the Bingo home seemed perfectly law abiding people.

While she was watching Billy Bingo she decided she really liked the Minion Plex where Billy Bingo lived with his parents. An Apartment came open where she would have more space and a lower rent and so she quickly put up a deposit to rent the Apartment.

Janet continued unpacking when Lilly Coint knocked on her door. Janet opened the door.

Lilly said, “Hey neighbor, I am sorry I haven’t come to visit you sooner but I have been swamped at a new job. My name is Lilly Coint. My roommate Beth Jackson and I live upstairs from you.”

“Oh. Cool. Come on in. I’ve been sort of busy myself. I am still unpacking.”

“Have you met many people here yet.”

“No. I confess, sometimes I am rather socially backward. And speaking of socially awkward, by the way, my name is Janet Silverton.”

“So, Janet Silverton, do you have a boyfriend or girlfriend?”

Janet started to feel uncomfortable. Was this a neighbor or her Aunt Tess Favor in disguise bugging her about not having a social life? “I was joking the other night about looking for Prince Charming but I don’t know. Right now I guess I would be happy with a good fuck.”

“I do know what you mean. Sometimes I think it would be nice to meet that one special man to spend the rest of my life with, but… I don’t know. I do like good sex.”

Beth Jackson knocked on the door. Lilly screamed, “Beth, come on in.”

Beth entered the Apartment and said in a cheery, multiple syllable voice. “Hey-a-ey.”

“Hey roomy, this is Janet Silverton.”

Beth asked, “So, what are you two talking about.”

Lilly said, “Sex. Janet Silverton here isn’t getting any. Either!”

Beth said, “I wish Billy would get out of his funk over Rachel marrying Dirk. It would be so cool if we could have a three-way with him again.”

Janet asked, “Billy Bingo?”

“Yeah, do you know him?”

“I don’t know him. I think I heard someone else mention his name.” Janet looked at Lilly and then at Beth. “I think they mentioned something about him being involved in someone’s death or something.”

Lilly shrugged. “I don’t know what that would be about. Billy is cool. Sex with him was great but he was in love with Rachel and she married Dirk and so he has been in a funk.”

“So what does Billy do?”

“He hasn’t been doing anything lately but he works with Linda Webster and her son decorating and redoing homes. They do some really good work. All three of them have had some impressive reviews in various magazines.”

Beth said, “I think both Dirk and David Jenkins have offered him a job but he has turned them down. The Way family also offered him a job in New York where his sister Bess lives but he didn’t take it.”

“So what kind of job did they offer him?”

“Trouble shooting. Security. Detective work. Way different from what he does with the Websters.”

Janet laughed. “Oh, that would explain a lot.”

Lilly asked, “What?”

Janet fiddled with packing material while she was trying to think of something to say. Then she said, “I am a Police Officer and his being involved in security must be what the person I was talking with was talking about. And then I was looking at some file and…” Janet laughed. “I was thinking criminal rather than detective. Total face palm.”

Beth said, “Policewoman. Like Angie Dickinson in that old TV series. I am sure glad I didn’t invite you over to smoke pot.”

Janet frowned. “Damn. Don’t shut me out of your parties just because I have a badge.”

Lilly smiled. “No. I have a feeling we are going to be good friends. So what file were you looking at on Billy.”

“Oh, just silly shit. I should have known it was nothing since Detective Face was not interested in it.”

Lilly nodded. “Oh yeah, Billy and Detective Face and my half brother Raymond Bing, they go back. I haven’t always been that close to my half brother but from what I understand there was a rough period there. Some tragic shit went down in their childhood. Billy is younger than them but he is… I don’t know how to explain it.”

Beth said, “I think the best way to put it is that he is one of those larger than life people. He is very tough and yet there is something fragile. Like him and Rachel. I don’t know. Lilly is right. It is hard to explain.”

Lilly said, “Okay, when we first met Billy we were playing dodge ball. Grown. Not children. We were grown. But we like to play. Anyway, so Billy came over and he was sort of out of place. Socially awkward, like you mentioned you being at times. Still, he went with the flow. Anyway, then Dirk came and broke Rachel’s heart. Dirk was a total dick. None of us knew what to say to Rachel to try to make her feel better but Billy, who didn’t even know us, knew exactly how to help her.”

Janet said, “But then she went back to Dirk.”

Beth said, “Dirk is not a bad person. He was being blackmailed by Ralph Shath. And I think Billy always knew that Rachel would go back to Dirk but still Billy loves her.”

“Blackmailed?”

“Yeah, he was also going to try to blackmail Billy but that didn’t work. Billy didn’t give a fuck.”

“What was he being blackmailed about?”

“Dirk had sex with Bobby White.”

Lilly said, “I haven’t seen Bobby lately.”

Beth said, “He has moved to Hotville to work for his uncle and with his cousin. His uncle is the Mayor there.” Beth yawned. “Well, I guess we have intruded and gossiped long enough. It was good to finally meet you. And we will have to go out some time and hit the bars.”

Janet said, “Yeah. That sounds like a plan.”

After her guest had left, Janet got in the shower. “So Billy Bingo has been involved in detective work. And he also helps decorate homes. That is some more combination. He is total player; having sex with both Lilly and Beth. Yet he is capable of deep love. Interesting.”

After her shower Janet called her Aunt Tess. “Hey. I just found out that Billy may have been involved in the murders for the same reason you are involved in murders. I don’t know why that didn’t occur to us.”

Tess Favor said, “He is a writer?”

“No. He is involved in security, detective type work. The reason he has not been doing anything lately is that he is mending a broken heart.”

“Well, you know catching someone on the rebound never works out well.”

“I am not interested in trying to meet him or anything. I just thought I would catch you up on what I found out.”

Tess said, “I guess Billy must have had an interest in investigating crimes even as a child. You told me that the database showed he was a person of interest even in the murders of George Destone and Tommy Harris. He was young when those murders happened. He was hardly old enough to be a detective.”

Janet said, “If I remember what you said when I told you about that, your reaction was that he must have a person of interest as a witness and not a suspect.”

“Because of his age and what happened to him when he was young may be what caused him to become interested in becoming a detective.” Tess moaned in frustration, “Billy might still make the subject of a good story but if he did not kill Kane Bishop then I am not sure from what angle I could make the story come together.”

Janet asked, “Do you have any other story ideas?”

“A few. If you come up with anything on Billy or something else, let me know.”

“I will. Bye.”

“Bye.”

* * *

Tess Favor visited her niece Janet from Hotville. Tess sat down in the floor to help Janet sort through some of the boxes as Janet tried to decide what to unpack and what to send back with her Aunt to put in storage.

“Snooping on Billy and his parents I have felt sort of jealous.”

“How so?”

“Billy has been depressed over some girl and with my snooping I could see how his parents have worried over him. It looks like they have something special.”

Tess said, “I think you and I have something special. Have I not been a good Aunt?”

“Of course you have. Watching them caused me to wonder about my parents.”

“Your real parents or your adopted parents?”

“Both. Neither wanted me. I don’t even know why your sister, mom, wanted to adopt me.”

“Her husband at the time had some connection to your real mother. I don’t know the details. He was a biker and really sort of bad news but my sister loved him. Then he was murdered and she took up with Ned. She went from a marriage to a biker to a marriage to a missionary.”

“I think Ned hated me from the first moment he laid eyes on me. So mother put me off on you.”

“Honey, I know there were times I traveled a lot but please know I have always loved you. If not for my sister I would have loved to have adopted you and had you call me mom.”

“Are you hurt I have even thought about this? I love you like you are my mom.”

“Of course I am not hurt. It is understandable to sometimes think and wonder what if.”

“I guess. Just know that I am very grateful for what is and grateful for having you in my life. So what do you think of my place?”

“It is nice. I totally love what you have done with your boxes.”

Janet gave her Aunt Tess a slight, teasing punch to her arm. “You. You. I know. Boxes, boxes, boxes. So what do you say we leave these boxes and go sit by the pool. I will fix us drinks to take with us.”

“Ok.” Tess stood up from the floor. She walked over to the window and looked out toward the pool. “So who are those two rough housing at the diving board?”

Janet walked over to the window. “That is Frank and Maureen Bingo; Billy’s parents.”

“A lovely couple and playing like they are teenagers. Sometimes I wish I had that kind of relationship with a man.”

Janet nodded. “Tell me about it.”

“Then I think, no. I like being single.”

At the pool Maureen Bingo climbed upon her husband’s strong shoulders. They stepped upon to the diving board. Raymond Bing watched them dive. “I wish I knew where they have that fountain of youth.”

Raymond’s cell phone began to ring. “Hello.”

“Hey Raymond, this is Hutch.”

“How is it going?” Raymond took a drink of bourbon from his glass. He put out his cigarette.

“Some ways good. I think Bess and I may be getting back together.”

“Great. I am with her parents now. They are playing at the pool like teenagers and I am sitting here like an old man.”

“You really need to try to meet someone.”

“Tell me about it.”

“What about Billy?”

“You can’t be serious. He is still moping around, all depressed about Rachel and Dirk.”

“Look. Bess is working on an article where some college kids are getting a man, Kyle Kingerstone, off death row and released from jail.”

“Yeah, my nephew is one of the ones who have been working to get him released.”

“I know. I saw where Howard Bing was involved. Here is the thing. There is a chance Kyle is actually guilty. Your nephew may have just helped get a serial killer released from jail. I see where Howard is planning on coming to New York with Kyle to do interviews and such. I wanted to let you know that your nephew may be in danger.”

Raymond watched Janet Silverton and the erotic mystery writer Tess Favor walk up near him and sit at a table next to where he was seated. He smiled at them and they smiled back.

Raymond said, “Well of course I am concerned about my nephew for my half-brother’s sake but Howard and I do not exactly get along. Howard is a total racist, homophobe, little Nazi. I thought maybe he was starting to change when I heard what he was doing to get what we thought was an innocent person released from death row. Then my brother told me that Howard was only doing it because his girlfriend was involved in researching the case and he was after some pussy.”

Janet and Tess sipped on their drinks while they listened to Raymond. The volume on the phone was turned up where they could also hear Hutch.

“But you do not want your nephew killed, do you?”

“Of course not. I am sure he will someday grow out of being a dick. Most of us eventually do. So what you are saying is that I should fly to New York with my nephew and be his body guard.”

“I am agreeing with Bess on this. I think Kyle may be guilty and a dangerous psychopath. So yeah, I think your nephew needs protecting”

“Okay. I understand. I will keep in touch. Bye.”

Tess moved over to the table where Raymond was sitting. “I could not help but hear. So your friend thinks that Kyle Kingerstone is actually guilty of the killings?”

“Yeah. So I guess I will be going to New York with my nephew who totally hates me.”

Tess reached out her hand to Raymond. “My name is Tess Favor. I write erotic mysteries.”

“I recognized you. I enjoy your writings very much.” Raymond shook Tess’ hand. “My name is Raymond Bing.”

Janet moved around to sit next to her aunt. “I just recently moved in here. So you are the half brother of Lilly Coint?”

“Yeah my family is kind of weird. Our different parents got married like they were playing musical chairs or such, but I do love my siblings. We haven’t always got along but we pretty much do now.” Raymond turned and looked at Maureen and Frank smooching in the edge of the pool. “Yo love birds, do you think I can get Billy to stop feeling sorry for himself and to go with me to New York to help protect my Nazi Nephew from a serial killer.”

Frank and Maureen got out of the pool. They dried off. They then sat down at the same table with Raymond, Tess, and Janet.

Maureen said, “You can talk to him and ask him. I think he is starting to get out of his funk. Linda Webster visited him one day. I am not sure what it was about but it did seem to help Billy.”

Frank said, “Mention visiting Bess in New York and that might get him to travel with you.”

Raymond stood up. He dropped a book of matches and knelt down to pick them up. In that position he looked at Janet’s legs. He looked at her inner thigh and though her birthmark was somewhat masked with makeup he saw she had a birthmark in the shape of a dagger. It was a birthmark like Billy has and Kane Bishop has. Raymond knew that it was a birthmark common to very powerful witches. Raymond stood up and looked into Janet’s eyes. He said, “I noticed your birthmark.”

Janet laughed. “Looking at my legs, hey.” Then she said, “Yeah, it is so ugly. I try to keep makeup on it to keep it covered up.”

Frank casually leaned over to see if he could see what they were talking about. “I guess that birthmark must be kind of common. Billy has one similar. And also I once had an affair with a woman who had a beauty mark that very much resembled Billy’s birthmark.”

Maureen said, “Yeah.” Maureen shook her head. “God.”

Raymond stared at Frank. “So you tell your wife about your affairs.”

Frank said, “We no longer have affairs. We have three ways.”

Raymond laughed, “Yeah. You two never invite me to join you in the bedroom.” Raymond looked back at the two with a naughty grin as he left the pool area and walked toward the Bingo Apartment.

Maureen yelled at Raymond as he walked toward the Apartment. “We’ve thought about it.” Then Maureen looked at Janet. “I’ve noticed Billy sneaking peeks at you when you’ve been out. You are a very beautiful woman.”

Janet blushed. “He has probably seen me sneaking peeks at him as well.”

Tess laughed. “We may have to throw them a party where just maybe they will introduce themselves instead of spying on one another.”

Janet said, “Aunt! I understand Billy has been heart broken and…”

Frank said, “Yes. Over a woman. And I had about decided he was mostly into dudes.”

Maureen moaned, “Frank. You may have just killed any chance Billy had with Janet.”

Janet looked up toward the sky and laughed. “No. That does not bother me. Like James Dean was quoted as having said, why should anyone want to go through life with one arm tied behind their back? Or something similar. I mangle quotes all of the time.”

Tess nodded. “I once had sex with a woman. I really liked her but the sex was awful.”

Maureen said, “You write very beautiful lesbian sex scenes.”

“Thank you. In fantasy I totally love the idea of two women in love and making love but then when I actually tried it. Like hell. It just didn’t work for me.”

Maureen said, “When I first experimented I liked the sex but what followed was a nightmare. Then I went through a phase where I totally hated even the thought of sex with anyone. Thank God Frank and I found our way back together and I became honest with him about things.”

Tess said, “You two are a lovely couple. Playful and obviously in love.”

Janet started to mention something but then stopped. Janet agreed with her Aunt. “Yes. You two are a lovely couple and I kind of suspect that Billy and I will get to know one another.”

Frank said, “Well, you two do have matching birthmarks.”

Janet looked at her Aunt. Then she looked at Frank. “I am adopted. Is it possible that I am related to Billy.”

Frank shook his head no. “If we go back far enough we are all related but like I said that is a common birthmark.”

Maureen said, “Frank was not always so sure about that. He became paranoid that Billy had been switched with another baby in the hospital so he had a test done to prove that he is the father of Billy.”

Janet asked, “Does anyone else in either of your families have a similar birthmark?”

Maureen answered, “No. I have a birthmark on may arm that no one else in my family has.”

Tess said, “Yes. I do as well. Scientist do not believe that birthmarks are in anyway genetic. They say they are the overgrowth of melanocytes. An old wive’s tale is that birthmarks are caused by some kind of fear during the pregnancy. Some birthmarks, such as the strawberry birthmark, are more common in babies who are born premature.”

Janet shrugged. “I thought birthmarks are genetic. I guess I am wrong again.”

Frank grinned. “Hey. I thought the same thing. When I saw that birthmark on Billy it totally freaked me out.”

Tess looked at Frank with a thoughtful stare. “So your wife had a baby in the hospital at the same the woman you had an affair with was giving birth. Or am I not following what you’ve said correctly?”

Frank nodded, “Yeah. You understood my drift. If I am sounding glib now, it is really because it was so painful.”

Janet nodded. “Cover the hurt. I understand.”

Frank said, “It was perplexing when we found ourselves there at the hospital together and then she, Amberline, died in childbirth.”

Tess let out a sorrowful moan. “Oh my God.”

Frank continued, “After Amberline and the baby died, I was with her husband for I don’t know how long, trying to comfort him. It was very awkward. Thank God he didn’t know about the affair. When David was told about the death of wife and his baby he left his son in the waiting room. He ran out into the parking lot and something told me I needed to follow after him and so I did. When I reached him he had pulled a gun from beneath the seat of his car and he had put the barrel of the gun into his mouth. So I stopped him and we talked and talked.” Frank stared at his wife as she ran her finger around the tip of her glass. “The affair nearly destroyed my marriage.”

Maureen said, “The thing is that I knew he loved her. There I was with a new baby and Frank came close to having a nervous break down. Then there was the birthmark thing and Frank thought the babies had been switched.”

Tess sadly smiled. “It must have been awful and I am sorry we brought up this painful memory.”

Maureen said, “It was painful then not just because of the awful situation but because I was so naive and seriously just not thinking right. I was actually jealous that Frank consoled his own grief by consoling her husband. I didn’t know about how Frank had stopped her husband’s suicide attempt until later. Regardless I should not have been jealous. I should have been with Frank helping to console David and making sure their boy Dirk was okay.”

Frank said, “I had to do that because I felt so fucking guilty. I would like to say I helped David and Dirk because I was a good person but a large part of it was guilt.”

Maureen said, “Guilt or not, it was right thing to do. You did right.”

Janet said, “I could tell by the way the two of you having been taking care of Billy while he has been in this funk that you two are very good people. Very good parents.”

Alicia Silver, shape shifted to look like a little girl climbed out of the pool. She looked at Frank, “I couldn’t help but over hear. If you were having an affair with the woman, how would you having a paternity test prove that the babies had not switched? You could have been the father of both babies.”

With a devilish grin Alicia, as a little girl, walked from the pool area. Frank and Maureen watched the girl make her exit and then they looked at one another. Frank said, “No. Amberline said a paternity test had been done and that I was not the father of her baby.”

Maureen said, “Well, Billy is my son. My mother wanted me to have a maternity test and I told her no. If Amberline lied about you not being the father and the babies were switched at birth I don’t want to know.”

Frank looked at his wife. “Wait. So back then you wondered if the babies had been switched and you were not Billy’s mother?”

“No! My mother made an issue to point out that your paternity test did not mean the babies had not been switched if Amberline had lied. I don’t care. If Amberline had not died then I might have been concerned that Billy was her baby and not my baby. As it was, I didn’t want to know. I don’t want to know.”

Frank took Maureen in his arms. He held her close.

Maureen softly cried, “Billy is my son.”

Frank nodded. He whispered, “Yes.”

Janet said, “That was one strange little girl. She gave me the creeps.”

Tess added, “And where the hell did she come from. I didn’t see her anywhere in the pool until she climbed out of the pool.”

Frank said, “We were just swimming and I did not see her.”

Maureen puzzled. “Neither did I but she was there so she had to have gotten into the pool at some point.”

Tess looked at Janet and then quickly looked away. “Strange.”

Maureen looked at Janet and then looked at Tess. “I am so sorry we practically have been spilling our guts to the two of you. You come out to the pool for some sun and fun and listen to a soap opera. Oh God. I am sorry we rattled on. And to a writer. Some of this stuff does not need to be repeated.”

“Understood!” Tess blushed and laughed. “I have no idea why I told you all about my experiment with lesbianism. I guess we are sitting here like old friends. Now we are new friends. That is a good thing. Isn’t it?”

Frank said, “Yes. It is a good thing.” Frank held up a glass from where he and Maureen had sat with Raymond earlier. “To new friends.”

Maureen, Tess, and Janet held up their glasses. “To new friends.”

* * *

Raymond walked into Billy’s bedroom. Dressed just in boxers, Billy rested in bed watching television and laughing at the rather silly humor. Raymond said, “Janet and her Aunt Tess are at the pool with your parents.”

Billy jumped out of bed and ran to the window to look toward the pool. “I guess by the time I get to the pool Janet and her Aunt will be gone. You should have called me and tried to have kept them there.”

Raymond walked over to the window and put his arm around Billy’s shoulder. “Well, hon, you are not doing anything to try to match me up with anyone so that did not even cross my mind.”

“That Janet is one good looking woman though. Isn’t she?”

“Yes, she is but look, I have a favor to ask you.”

“Matchmaking?”

“No. Get your mind off sex.”

“What?”

“I need you to go to New York with me to make sure that my nephew does not get into any trouble. I was telling you about Kyle Kingsterone and how my nephew had helped to get him off death row.”

“Yeah.”

“Hutch called me and it seems your sister Bess has been working on the story. Bess and Hutch think that Kyle actually is a serial killer and that my nephew is in danger.”

“Fuck. A serial killer!”

“I figure the danger period is just while Howard is in New York. Now, I warn you, my nephew Howard is a total dick. Still, I would be very thankful if you would go to New York to help me protect the dumb ass.”

“Okay. I will call Detective Face and see if he can give me any background after I let him know what is going on.”

“Good.”

The Image: A Guide to Pseudo-Events in America

First published in 1962, this wonderfully provocative book introduced the notion of “pseudo-events”—events such as press conferences and presidential debates, which are manufactured solely in order to be reported—and the contemporary definition of celebrity as “a person who is known for his well-knownness.” Since then Daniel J. Boorstin’s prophetic vision of an America inundated by its own illusions has become an essential resource for any reader who wants to distinguish the manifold deceptions of our culture from its few enduring truths.

______

A prolific writer, Daniel Boorstin is the author of numerous scholarly and popular works in American Studies. Born in Georgia and raised in Oklahoma, Boorstin received degrees from Harvard and Yale universities and was a Rhodes Scholar at Balliol College, Oxford. A member of the Massachusetts Bar, he has been visiting professor of American History at the Universities of Rome, Puerto Rico, Kyoto, and Geneva. He was the first incumbent of the chair of American History at the Sorbonne and Pitt Professor of American History and Institutions at Cambridge. He taught at the University of Chicago for 25 years. In 1959 Columbia University awarded him its Bancroft Prize for The Americans: The Colonial Experience (1958), the first volume of his trilogy titled The Americans. In 1966 he received the Francis Parkman Award for the second volume, The Americans: The National Experience (1965), and in 1974 he received the Pulitzer Prize for the third volume, The Americans: The Democratic Experience (1973). Many of Boorstin’s books have been translated into Chinese, Japanese, and various European languages. In 1969 Boorstin became director of the National Museum of History and Technology of the Smithsonian Institution. In 1973 he became senior historian at the Smithsonian. Boorstin was appointed Librarian of Congress in 1975 and served in that position with distinction for 12 years, becoming Librarian Emeritus in 1987.

It might be noted that this book was written after the first televised Presidential debate. On Sept. 26, 1960, 70 million American viewers watched the first of four televised presidential debates between candidates Richard Nixon and John F. Kennedy. They were the first debates ever to be held between the presidential nominees of the two major parties during the election season.

But it was FDR who first made use of the media by allowing his Presidency to be a virtual production produced for the media. Of course there was propaganda before FDR but the degree and the methodology reached an entirely new level. And then there was McCarthy who played the media like a fiddle. He would hold a morning press conference to announce there would be something major in his evening press conference.

Chapter 3 – Billy Bingo: When The Legman Comes

Chapters

Billy drove to the home of Sylvia Trundle up in the mountains. He nervously walked around to the pool and patio area. She was not there and so he knocked on the door.

Sylvia opened the door to see Billy standing there. She said, “This is a surprise. I wasn’t sure to whether I would ever see you again.”

Billy looked at the very sexy woman who could almost pass for Marilyn Monroe. So beautiful and with all the curves in all the right places. He felt speechless as he fumbled around for a cigarette and a lighter in his pockets. Then he stopped distracting himself with the pointless search. In a smooth flirtatious voice Billy said, “You are beautiful. How could I not want to see you again.”

“Come in,” Sylvia said. She walked over to the bar to pour the both of them a drink. “So is this a social call, a booty call, or are you planning something sinister against Kane and myself.”

“Nothing sinister unless you consider my asking a favor from Kane as sinister.”

“A favor. With Kane, yeah, that could be sinister. With him you never know the outcomes.”

Billy nodded. “If you think my being here is a mistake, please do tell me.”

Sylvia handed Billy a drink. “I don’t know. Tell me what favor that it is that you plan to request of Kane.”

Billy took a drink. “Mrs. Haskel has created paperwork to make me a detective. The problem is that I will need to create some false memories to reduce the chances of any questions.”

“Magic to alter memories. Now Legman, you know how to work that spell. That was one of your favorites.”

“I am Billy.”

“Right. Kane once tried to explain his theory on the situation to me but I didn’t fully understand. Split personality or such.”

“Past life.”

“Oh. Intriguing. A personality from a past life. I don’t think Kane had that figured. So what were you in that past life where the Legman’s personality originated.”

“Besides witch, I do not know.”

“I might be able to bring out this other life personality of yours. Then you would be able to work the spell yourself.”

Sylvia put her drink aside and began to unbutton Billy’s shirt. Billy closed his eyes. He whispered, “How will you bring the Legman out?”

Sylvia grinned. She continued to undress Billy. “It might not work, but we can have fun trying the rather kinky sex magic past life spell.”

“You have the power.”

“No. You have the power. I just know the way.”

“You have done the spell with Kane?”

“Kane had hidden something during a past life that he wanted to find. The spell did not work with Kane. It might not work with you either; but anyway, let us try.”

Sylvia stripped Billy totally naked. She stared at his large cock. “Such a big cock for my tight pussy.”

Billy undressed Sylvia. “Tell me how the spell should work.”

Naked, together Sylvia and Billy walked up the stairs to her and Kane’s bedroom. “Our bed is shaped as a pentagram.”

Billy saw the odd shaped bed. Then he looked up toward her ceiling and saw stars painted above her bed. He started to walk toward her bed but she stopped him.

Sylvia said, “You stand here.” Sylvia then crawled into her bed. “You must jump and land in the bed on top of me like you are flying.”

“If I land roughly on top of you, I might hurt you.”

“So don’t. Make your landing gentle.”

Billy jumped and landed on top of Sylvia. It was not as gentle of a landing as either of them would have liked but still Billy thought it was odd. It was almost like he was in control of the flight, levitating, but not quite.

Billy asked, “So, what now?”

“Look up toward the ceiling and picture a doorway in the painted night sky. Reach for that doorway. Try to lift yourself from the bed toward the doorway.”

Billy tried but he couldn’t concentrate. “I can’t picture any doorway.” Billy kissed Sylvia on the breasts and then her lips. Just as their smooching became rather intense with desire, she stopped Billy.

Suddenly the bed began to bounce and it began to spin. The air in the room developed a strange aroma. Billy asked, “What is happening?”

“You are a witch in the bed of another witch; Kane’s bed.”

Billy asked, “Should I be scared?”

“No. When Kane fucked you while you were fucking me, it was an approval. It was a key.”

“I don’t understand.”

“It doesn’t matter. I am not sure that I fully understand. Regardless, imagine the door and levitate toward the door.”

Billy again attempted to imagine the door. At first he couldn’t focus his mind and his imagination failed him. Then suddenly Billy saw the door as though it were real and he felt himself flying toward the door. Billy looked back to see that his naked body remained on the bed next to the very sexy Sylvia. Then Billy looked back toward the doorway. As Billy entered the doorway he fell into a sleep and as he slept the Legman emerged from the doorway and floated down to Billy’s body. Billy’s alter ego, his past life personality, opened his eyes. The Legman winked flirtatiously at Sylvia as he admired her naked form.

Sylvia realized the transformation in Billy. She knew the doorway spell had worked for Billy. She guessed it worked for Billy because his alter ego from the past life was not as buried inside him as Kane’s past incarnation had been.

Sylvia smiled. “So Legman, should I now be afraid.”

Legman laughed. “No.”

Sylvia asked, “Do you know what Billy wants?”

The Legman paused a moment. Then his physical body levitated in the bed. He began to spin in midair very rapidly. He grabbed Sylvia up from the bed and pulled her up into his arms so that together they began to spin in midair.

Sylvia felt her naked body pressed against the Legman’s naked body and to Sylvia it felt as though their bare souls were touching. Sylvia felt a sense of security in the Legman’s arms that she very seldom had felt while in the arms of Kane.

Spinning around in midair Sylvia laughed like an adult child in an amusement park. The Legman laughed with Sylvia and suddenly Sylvia felt herself being transported. “Oh my God, I don’t think Kane has this type of power. How did we go from the house up into the sky?”

As they stopped spinning in midair, the Legman asked, “So you and Kane have never had sex up in the clouds?”

“No. How is this possible?”

“All things are possible.”

“You are not just a witch. You are an Olympian. You are a god. Which god?”

The Legman whispered, “Sh. Don’t call me a god until after we have sex; then your praise will mean much more.”

Lightning began to strike among the clouds and rain spewed up from the clouds like a fountain. Sylvia moaned at the feel of the water spewing up against them. “I love this but I know I should be scared. Do not forget that I am human.”

“No. You are not scared for you know that there is no reason to be such. You are shielded in my embrace and you are embraced in my heart. You feel most secure in such.”

“I do but I do not know why.” Sylvia stared into the Legman’s eyes and she quivered with their bodies touching. “Oh fucking hell. Please fuck me. I want to feel your cock inside of me,” Sylvia moaned.

The Legman began to make love to Sylvia. His cock probed and pulsated and flickered as the lightning surrounding them. Every touch of his cock to Sylvia’s pussy caused her to orgasm. Her eyes rolled back in her head. Her body trembled. She screamed loud into the thunder and then the Legman came and his cum spewed and the lightning stopped. The thunder silenced.

The Legman and Sylvia transported back from the sky and to the bed as though a light were passing through a shadow. In bed they lay still, quiet for a moment.

Then the Legman spoke. “The spell has already been cast; the memories are altered. Now Billy will return.”

“No wait. I want to ask you questions.”

Billy was back. “What questions?”

“Legman was here. He cast the spell. I wanted to know more about him, but he was gone.”

Billy asked, “I don’t understand how you were able to do it.”

“No, you did it. It was my plan for this bed to help you do it. To Kane the bed is kind of like a magic wand; an extension of his dick. That is what I intended but you didn’t need this bed. Billy, you aren’t just a witch, you are a god.”

“Don’t be silly. Are you sure the memories have been altered?”

“That is what the Legman said and I feel sure you can trust that.” Sylvia hesitated. Then she told Billy, “The Legman and I had sex. We had sex in the sky, in the clouds. You are much more than just a witch but I will not speak of such to anyone. You can trust me.”

Billy kissed Sylvia. “I wonder what past life you and I shared. I bet it was a wonderful life.”

Sylvia kissed Billy. She saw his cock was still hard and she climbed on top of Billy. She began to ride his cock. Billy watched her breasts bounce as she rode him.

Billy whispered, “This is nice.”

Sylvia nodded. “Nice.” Sylvia considered how different it felt with Billy than with the Legman. Of course they weren’t high in the sky and having sex among the clouds. Sylvia repeated, “This is nice.”

* * *

As soon as Billy left, Sylvia hit the computer and began seeing what she could discover, regarding the Legman. She felt certain now that he was not just a witch, equal to Kane Bishop, but was a deity. Sylvia rubbed her breasts and smiled, “I just had sex with a god, a true force of nature. But what kind of god is he. It would be ironic if Billy is one of the forces that Kane worships.”

Sylvia pulled up a list of Greek gods. “I have no idea how to figure this out. Legman is not really the name he gave himself but was a name that the gang gave him. So that isn’t really a clue. What might be a clue to who Billy is?”

Sylvia read, “There are the twelve Olympians.” She said, “I would like for Billy to be one of them but I guess that is unlikely.” She read, “Then there are the Primordial Deities. Then there are the Titans.” She thought, “My instinct is that Billy is one of the Titans but which one?”

Kane walked into Sylvia’s office. “What are you doing?”

“Reading about the gods on the internet.”

“Why?”

“I don’t know. On television someone said something or another and it just got me curious about the Titans.”

Kane laughed. “I seriously should not have given you the power to lie to witches, including myself. I now never know when you are telling me the truth or bullshitting. Spell to deceive or not, you really are not sounding very honest right now.” Then Kane said, “I know a witch was in my bed today. What witch did you fuck today?”

Sylvia stood up. “Are you jealous?” She walked to Kane and took him in her arms. “I do hope you are jealous.”

Kane kissed Syliva on the lips. “It depends. Did you cheat me out of what could have been a fun three-way.”

“Maybe. It was Billy Bingo.”

“Did he come here just for sex with you?”

“He needed a memory spell to follow through with what Marjone had worked out. She has made him a Detective.”

“Police?”

“Private.”

“I wonder what her game is?”

“I have no idea.”

“So Billy wants me to give him a memory spell.”

“Please do not be angry.”

Kane teasingly gestured with his finger to her chin. “What did you do?”

“I used your bed so that he could bring the Legman forth using the sex spell. The Legman did the spell.”

“You helped Billy summon the Legman from his past. So did you learn anything?”

Sylvia hesitated. “I am afraid you will over react. Promise that you will stick to our truce and not hurt Billy.”

“What has he done against me?”

“No. Nothing I know about it. It isn’t about that.”

“Then what is it about?”

“Have you ever had sex with someone in the clouds?”

“No. The Legman has that kind of power?”

“Yes.”

“So now you are thinking that Billy Bingo is not just a witch but a deity, a god. That is why you were researching?”

“Yes, but I have no idea which deity. Have you any guess?”

“No. He could be just simply very powerful. There are such witches.”

“Have you ever met a witch that powerful who is not a deity?”

“I’ve never met anyone that powerful, unless as you say Billy or should I say the Legman is that powerful. If Billy is a deity would that mean Amberline Darko is also a deity?”

“Zeus resurrected the son of Apollo Asclepius through a virgin human woman. Or so Count Duso once told me.”

“If we could find Count Duso, he might could tell us about Billy. That is a big if. From what I hear he has totally vanished.”

“I know. I am worried about him. I miss my talks with Count Duso.”

Chapter 2 – Billy Bingo: When The Legman Comes

Chapters

In the light from the half-moon, Tommy Harris sat on a bench and stared at his own grave. When the moon is half to full, vampires like Tommy Harris may walk both in the day and the night but may only kill prey and consume blood at night. This day he had been watching and stalking some unemployed twenty-somethings selling drugs at a truck stop. He was tired of the bottled blood and was hungry for something real and substantial and hoped he might find someone truly despicable, evil, to feed upon this coming night.

Halack Cloven stood out among the four young men hanging around the truck stop. At one point he punched one of his buddies in the nose when he discovered his buddy had been shortchanged by one of the truckers during a transaction for some speed. He had punched another buddy in the balls when his buddy didn’t act quickly enough to retrieve more speed from his car that he wanted to sell. So Halack Cloven potentially fit the profile of someone that Tommy Harris enjoyed feeding upon, draining the life from, and killing.

Halack left his buddies and walked around to where a couple of truckers stood. His buddies got in their vehicles and left while Halack sold the truckers a new blend of speed that his supplier had cooked. With his pockets full of money Halack retreated from the truckers and back to his red Camaro. As he sped off to leave the truck stop Tommy Harris followed him. Oddly, Tommy followed Halack to the church and the cemetery where he, Tommy Harris, had been buried. It was from that very grave, on a dark and thankless night, Alicia Silver had raised Tommy from the dead.

At the church Tommy witnessed Halack Cloven give the money he had earned at the truck stop to a woman Tommy knew as a good person, who cared for foster children. Tommy was somewhat disappointed. That act of goodness made him less inclined to want to feast upon this handsome young man he stalked as prey. Tommy thought he might still kill Halack but for now he would hold judgement and wait.

At the church Tommy had noticed Maureen Bingo walking to the cemetery. Tommy left from following Halack to following Maureen who he knew was Billy Bingo’s mother. Hidden, sneaking through the trees behind her, Tommy reflected in memory of the old days and Maureen’s hell and how Billy had saved her. Tommy was shocked when Maureen came to his own grave and put flowers at his headstone. He watched her pulling some weeds from the cemetery lot and saw when she pricked her finger on a thorn. There was more blood than there should have been and some dripped on the white flower she had placed to adorn his grave. Tommy liked the site of her blood seeping into the flower’s white bloom.

Tommy felt gratitude that Maureen had cleaned his grave site up and had even put flowers on his grave. Tommy knew that Billy had gone so far as to try to kill Kane Bishop to avenge what had been done to him, his being murdered in the garage, and that affection also greatly touched Tommy. Tommy felt seeing Maureen at his grave and also knowing what Billy had done, somehow gave some meaning to his life. Tommy’s was a life that he generally considered had no meaning. There were times he wished that he had never been born.

After Maureen left from tending to his grave, with appreciation Tommy admired her work at his burial site. Tommy remembered the last time he had visited the site. Back then, nature had pretty much reclaimed it so that it looked like an overgrown, wild, dangerous, jungle. Thanks to Maureen his grave site now looked as though it had been brought back to civilization.

As a scary vampire, who now seldom walked with the civilized, Tommy sadly sat alone at the memorial to when he had died. Tommy felt the scar on his throat and remembered the cutting sensation of when he was lynched at the garage.

The vampire witch Alicia, who had raised Tommy from the dead, appeared next to Tommy. “What on earth are you doing here? You look just so fucking pitiful.”

“Just sitting. Why?”

“I’ve been getting some weird thoughts from you. I thought for sure I was going to have some fun with whomever you decided to kill but then your thoughts turned all warm and fuzzy over Billy Bingo and his mother. I tell you what, why don’t we kill Billy’s mother Maureen?”

Tommy stated, “No! You leave the Bingo family alone.”

“Don’t tell me what I should do. If I want to kill them then I will kill them. I am getting sick of your perverted desire to only want to feed upon and suck the life from evil people.”

Tommy said, “You do know that Billy Bingo is a witch, don’t you?”

“Hell, he does not know how to do shit. He does not have the kind of power that I have or Kane Bishop has. Hell, he does not even have the power that Linda Webster has.” Alicia paused. She thought a moment. “You know, on second thought, it might be even more fun if we kill Linda Webster. I’ve already killed her mother. We can torture Linda and make her cry and beg for her life. What do you think?”

Tommy stared at his master in disgust. “Killing an innocent. I don’t think so.” Tommy popped his jaw and revealed his fangs as his look of disgust transformed into a frightful grin. “Now, don’t reject this out of hand. Consider what I am saying. Why don’t we cause a jailbreak on death row. Imagine all those evil people freed for us to hunt down and torture and kill? Hunting those bastards and killing them could be a fun challenge.”

Alicia moaned, “There it is again! Your kinky obsession with killing evil people.”

Tommy rolled his eyes. “I just don’t see how you get off on killing good, innocent people. There is no challenge in killing God’s sheep.”

Alicia Silver stared at her slave. When she saw him take money to allow a bunch of men pretend they were gang raping him, she knew he was different. With Tommy there was the odd mix of vulnerable and tough bad ass that made him distinctly strange. She would have liked for him to have been more wicked and not so concerned about the people he considered good, but then again it was that odd mix which was the reason she brought him back from the dead to be a vampire and to be her slave.

Alicia cast a spell to cast their clothes into the wind and to the ground. Now naked they sat on the bench together. She reached over and played with Tommy’s cock. “Can’t I convince you that it might be both a challenge and fun to kill Linda Webster?”

“No.”

Alicia quickly stood and picked Tommy up into her arms and threw him down on top of his own body-less grave. “You know. I could kill you. Or I could cast you into the coffin I rescued you from. I could chain you down beneath the dirt. Imagine that you are trapped in that coffin and hungry for blood for hundreds of years or maybe even eternity.”

Tommy smiled. “I’d have my thoughts. I could dance in my fantasies through gardens and rivers and even in the clouds. My cock would still grow hard and I could still have my orgasms. You can’t hurt me. See, I know when I hunger, the hunger is not real. I know when I hurt; the pain is not real. It is all just in my mind.”

“You are my vampire slave. I control what is in your mind. I can make you hurt.”

“Try it.”

Alicia did try to make Tommy feel pain but she could not. “But you are still my slave.” Naked, Alicia jumped on top of Tommy. “You are still my slave. I control you through pain.”

“When I learned things, and you fell in love with me, things changed. Since then, you have not truly controlled me so much through pain as love.”

“I love no one.”

“You love me. It is now that love which binds me as your slave.”

Tommy rolled Alicia over on her back and began to fuck her missionary style. Tommy said, “I am as much in your head as you are in my head.”

Alicia enjoyed the feel of Tommy’s cock pounding her pussy though she would preferred to be the one on top. “You know that if we help people on death row to escape, then until we are able to kill them they might hurt good people. I could cast a spell where they would want to kill Maureen, Billy, and Linda. That should create a real challenge for you. You would have to kill the escaped convicts before they could kill Maureen, Billy, or Linda or whomever else I might decide I’d enjoy watching die.”

Tommy pulled his cock out of Alicia’s pussy and began to titty fuck her. “What makes you think those three can’t protect themselves. Such a spell would spoil my fun because surely each of them would kill the convict before I could do so.”

Alicia said, “Okay. You probably do have a point there. Also to make the game less complicated let us have just have one person from death row and one intended victim. Since there will only be one killer, the person the killer has to go after needs to be a true victim who isn’t likely to be able to protect themselves. What about having Linda’s son, Steve Webster as the killer‘s intended victim?”

Tommy nodded. “Okay, so the challenge is that I will make sure that the convict does not succeed in killing Steve.”

“That is the game.” Alicia thought a second. “I think to keep the police out of it, rather than an escapee let us have the killer legally freed. I will create a bogus DNA defense that will let the killer off. But here is the kicker, you can only go after the convict to drain their blood when they go after Steve to try to kill him.”

Tommy put his cock in his Alicia’s face. He beat his cock hard and shot his sperm all over her face. Tommy said, “No. Anytime they try to kill anyone then I have the right to feed on them. You are not going to pretend like they are only going after one person and then have them go after lots of people and say I can‘t protect the other people.”

Alicia spelled herself clean and attired in fresh clothes. She said, “Okay then, be that way.” She vanished, leaving Tommy naked.

Standing up, Tommy screamed, “What about some damn clothes? Please.”

Seeing that no clothes were being sent his direction, Tommy tried to vanish into an invisible ghost like form but Alicia had cast a spell so that he couldn’t. Neither could he turn into a bat. He was left standing human like in the cemetery, totally naked. Tommy screamed, “Bitch!”

Alicia echoed her voice back to him. “Do not ever think that I love you!”

Tommy laughed. “You know that you love me.” Then he stopped laughing when he saw who he believed was a police officer walking toward him.

Tommy told the man who he thought was a police officer. “My girlfriend got pissed about something and stole my clothes.”

The uniformed man did not say anything. He eased closer to Tommy.

Tommy moaned, “Come on, you don’t want to arrest me.”

Tommy saw the man had a strange look on his face. The man said, “Maybe I don’t. You are a good looking young man.”

Tommy thought to himself. “I could kill this man but Alicia would like that way too much.”

The man asked, “Do you like sucking cock?”

Tommy said, “I was here with a woman, not a man.”

Tommy walked closer to the man and saw that the uniform did not look right. The badge was totally wrong and the holster did not look right either. “What are you, like a security guard?” Tommy was pretty sure that the church and cemetery were very badly maintained and that it is doubtful anyone would hire security for the grounds.

“I am a police officer.”

“I don’t think so.”

“Then run. I’d like for you run. All bare foot on this rough, rocky ground I’d like to see you run from me. I’d like to watch your pretty bare ass do a prissy run.” Then the man laughed as he pulled out a stung gun. “This has got quite a shock. It will incapacitate you long enough.”

Tommy asked, “Long enough for what?”

“It will drop you to the ground in a helpless mess long enough for me to tie your hands and to gag your mouth. I’ll first gag your mouth with some cloth. Then I will gag your mouth with my wet dick.”

Tommy smiled. “So you like raping men.”

“I do.”

Tommy giggled. “So would you describe yourself as evil?”

“Oh yeah, I am evil. I am so evil. I will fuck you long and I will fuck you hard. I will fuck you in the mouth. I will fuck you in the ass. Fuck. Fuck. I will so fuck you. You will cry. I will make you cry. I will lick your salty tears from your face. And if I like your tears I may even lick your eyeballs.”

Tommy’s eyes widen with a rather pleasant pleased look on his face. “So have you ever killed anyone?”

“Yeah. You should be scared. Really scared.”

Tommy walked up to the man and rubbed his stomach. With a giggle Tommy said, “I should be. I should be just so terrified of you.” Tommy did a fake shiver of fear and then kissed the man on the lips.

The man pushed Tommy back and then jammed his stung gun into Tommy’s neck. The man expected Tommy to fall to the ground but of course he did not collapse.

Tommy chuckled, “Ha, ha, ha. God, that feels so good. That gives me a tingle from the tip top of my head to the tip top of my dick. Oooh, it gives such a tingle to the head of my dick.”

The man stepped back away from Tommy. The man dropped his stung gun. Tommy opened his mouth. He revealed his fangs. In horror the man was unable to move as Tommy sank his fangs into the man’s throat. Tommy moaned, “That is some evil tasting blood. Evil blood. Yum so good.” Taking the man by the collar of his shirt, Tommy drank and drank. Then he dropped the man dead to the ground. “I will not resurrect you.”

Alicia appeared next to Tommy and looked down at the man. “You did not share. Now that hurts my feelings.”

Alicia spelled Tommy some clothes. Alicia said, “Of course you know that is the husband of the woman who Halack Cloven gave the money. It wasn’t for the foster children. You are such a naive dumb ass. They are the ones who cook the drugs for Halack.”

Tommy laughed. “Truth or lie?” Truth or Lie was a game they sometimes played.

Alicia shook her head. “Either believe me or not. I don’t care.” Alicia kicked at the dead man on the ground. “I thought for sure you would want to have sex with the man before killing him. He seems to be your type of dude.”

Tommy shrugged. “That dude is too ugly for me. Now Halack may be a different story.”

Alicia nodded. “Yeah, I read those thoughts. I am not sure I want you to raise Halack after killing him.”

“Just because I may fuck him does not mean that I will raise him.”

“If you like fucking with him, yeah, you will want to raise him.”

“So are we still going to do the convict game.”

“Hell yeah. I just have not decided which one yet.”

Billy Bingo’s older sister, Bess Bingo, continued to live in New York. She had tried living with Hutch Cassidy, widower of Clarice Harris Cassidy, but right now she was living on her own and trying to keep her checkbook balanced.

Hutch loved Bess but it was not easy for him to maintain a relationship with her. He knew about Billy Bingo as the Legman and he knew that Billy had killed George Destone. He knew secrets he could not share with Bess and at times that made him uncomfortable. At times Bess continued to dwell on her love for George Destone and during those periods it greatly bothered Hutch that he could not tell Bess what a despicable man George Destone had been. He kept quiet to spare Maureen Bingo and Mary Aghar from having to further suffer the evil that was George Destone. He would not risk hurting Maureen Bingo by telling Bess how George had blackmailed and raped her mother, Maureen, as well as how he had blackmailed and raped Mary Aghar. Also Hutch felt he could not tell Bess that her own brother had killed George Destone. Beyond concern for Billy Bingo and the victims of George Destone, Hutch was not entirely certain that Bess was capable of believing George Destone, the man she thought of as the love of her life, was truly evil incarnate.

Hutch knew that Bess was hurting for money. She was currently writing e-books to sell but she was not having much luck. Hutch told her that if she could better establish herself as a writer by being published in magazines that might help her e-book sells. Hutch had a friend who owned a magazine with circulation that was dropping and was badly hurting for better content to increase sales. His friend had an idea that if they could come up with a person on death row who they could exonerate with DNA evidence then that might give the magazine some much needed publicity. They hoped that some in the media would latch on to the story and then the magazine would receive mention in various media and other venues so as to help improve circulation.

Hutch’s friend was aware of college kids who had managed to free a few people from death row. His friend felt that surely there were others innocent on death row who had not yet been cleared and freed. Hutch thought his friend had a good idea and mentioned Bess as a writer to his friend.

So Bess was hired to begin researching people on death row. Her job was to begin writing articles about people on death row while at the same time hoping to find at least one innocent, and hopefully likeable person, she could fully exploit for the magazine’s “Death Row” feature. It was hoped that she would be able to make a case that one of the death row inmates had been wrongly convicted.

There were between 3,200 and 3,300 people on death row across all jurisdictions in the United States. Just in California, there were 704 people on death row. Bess decided that should be the starting point in doing her research.

Bess was allowed access by way of computer to all of the files of the men and women on death row. Of the 704 people in California on death row, 19 were women. So Bess decided to look through the files on the women first since she figured they would be the more likeable and compelling cases so as to ignite public sentiment and draw readership. Bess was horrified as she looked through the files and discovered that the majority of women on death row in California were so sentenced for the most unthinkable of crimes: the murder of children. There were a couple of women who had murdered adult men but they were not the kind of women who would elicit any sympathetic thoughts and the cases were pretty much open and shut. There was one case where a woman had murdered another woman. At first Bess thought the case did not make sense. Then when she looked closer at the case file she discovered the woman, with a male accomplice, was in fact a serial killer of women.

Feeling disgusted by what she had seen while doing the first of her research, she slammed her computer closed and stood up and began to pace the floor. She called Hutch. “Honey, I know you were doing me a huge favor with this but I don’t know whether I can do the articles on any of these people, much less try to prove any of them are innocent. All I have seen with my first look at the files are cold blooded, vile, monstrous killers, and these files are just on the women in California on death row. Looking at all these evil women has made my skin crawl.”

“I’ve got some time. Would it offend you if I looked through some of the files with you and see if I can find any case that might have potential.”

“No. If you have the time I most certainly could use some help and maybe some perspective. There was this one woman that at first I thought might be a good starting place but then hell, she was not only in love with a serial killer but she was helping him to kill the women. How could any woman fall in love with such a monster?”

Hutch ignored the question. “I will come over and try to help. If it looks like my friend’s idea was stupid we will tell him and see if we can come up with some other series of articles for you to write.”

“Thanks.”

“See you in a few hours.”

“Cool. Bye.”

“Bye.”

* * *

Hutch made some calls to some lawyers he knew in California. He asked them if they knew of anyone on death row in California who might be innocent and with a little time and review of the DNA evidence could be proven innocent. The answer he got from all the lawyers was pretty much the same. “Yeah, there are a lot of people on death row in California and the police do screw up quite a bit, but it is not that easy to get a person sentenced to death in California.” They made clear that they seriously doubted focusing on California was a good idea.

So Hutch decided to check on the death row cases in Alabama and Georgia. Having been raised in Georgia, Bess did not fully realize the degree that much of the nation has a blind bias against the South. Hutch also grew up in Georgia but he had learned and understood the degree being Southern had at first hurt him in business. His road to success in business, even with the help of his then lover David Jenkins, did not begin until he made the decided effort to lose his Southern accent.

Hutch glanced through the files of Georgia Death Row Inmates. There were 94 people on death row in Georgia. Hutch didn’t even consider the idea to narrow the search to women because he figured for a woman to get on death row, her crime had to be pretty awful as Bess had discovered. After glancing through the Georgia files Hutch called Lawyers he knew in Georgia. Each lawyer pointed to one man in particular who they believed might be innocent. His name was Kyle Kingsterone who had been convicted of killing multiple people as a serial killer.

When Hutch got off the phone he pulled up the file. There were already some college kids working to get Kyle’s conviction over turned. The college kids working on the case were June Ross, Sissy Devlin, and Howard Bing. Howard was the nephew of Hutch’s friend, Raymond Bing. Hutch did a print out of the file and drove over to Bess’ Apartment.

Drunk, nude, Bess greeted Hutch at the door. Without a stitch of clothes on, she leaned against the door jam in a sexy pose. With a liquor bottle up to her mouth, she spastically hand gestured Hutch inside. She lowered the bottle to her side as Hutch entered her tiny Apartment. She staggered from the door and closed it behind him. She touched the file Hutch held in his hand.

Her drunken, slurred voice altered between sensual soft and obnoxious loud as she spoke. “Talking to you on the phone made me so horny. I miss having sex with you.”

Hutch threw the file down on the desk behind where Bess was standing in the small living room. He kissed Bess on the lips. Hutch moaned, “I’ve missed you. Why can’t we make this work?”

Bess reached into Hutch’s pants and played with his dick. As she threw her liquor bottle back over her shoulder straight into the garbage can Bess said, “Love should not have to be work. Just fucking. Lots of good fucking.”

Hutch laughed as he kissed Bess on the breasts. He ran his tongue up her neck and kissed her behind her ear. “I think we were doing pretty well in the sex department.”

Bess giggled with a devilish grin and then licked her lips. “Yeah.” Bess slapped at Hutch. “You. You. You get naked. I want to see you naked.”

Hutch began to take off his clothes. Hutch asked, “Are you going to regret this in the morning?”

“Hell no. I thought we agreed that when I moved out that we would remain friends with benefits.”

“Yeah, but I wasn’t sure you were serious.”

“Of course I was serious. Course, considering I am broke it might be more advantageous if instead of being your friend with benefits I were your slutty whore who you paid a thousand dollars for benefits.”

Naked, Hutch stood before Bess. “We can play that.” Hutch counted ten one hundred-dollar bills from his wallet and placed them on the end table next to the couch. He then sat down on the couch and spread his legs. He played with his already hard cock. “Whore. Suck my dick. Suck it like you are starved for it.”

Bess got down on her knees to suck his dick. Then Hutch stopped her. He pulled her up into his arms. He kissed her. He whispered in her ear, “You know it is going to be all right. Why don’t you give up this place and move back into my place.”

Bess cuddled in Hutch’s strong arms. “Because you love Clarice more than you can ever love me. I think maybe that you even love my brother more than you love me.”

“What? Where the hell did that come from?”

“I heard you talking about Billy in your sleep. You even have a pet name for him. The Legman.”

“You know there are things about your brother that you do not know.”

“I know that he is bisexual,”

“I am not talking about that. Your brother and I never had sex. I was with David Jenkins back in those days. I was a whore and I guess in one sense I will always be a whore. I mean with David it started out about money. David loves dirty sex of all kinds but our relationship became more.”

“I understand your relationship with David. I don’t understand your relationship with my brother. But then why should I. I don’t really fully understand Billy.”

“It is complicated. We were in a gang and…”

“Billy was in a gang.”

“Not exactly. See, there were some of us who were having our lives ruined by the people who ran the gang. David Jenkins helped me a lot but the truth is your brother saved all of our asses including David Jenkins.”

“Billy was so much younger than the rest of you all. How could he have saved you all? I mean David Jenkins is rich. He gives orders left and right to the people who work for him. How could Billy have saved all of your asses as you say?”

“Look. I don’t know how we got this far on this subject because this is something I really do not want to talk about. Billy is your brother. Just love him and respect that he is a lot more than your kid brother. Do you really need to know the details?”

“I do love him. I guess I don’t need to know whatever that it is that you are not telling me but I am glad you told me as much as you did.” Bess though a moment. She held her head. “I think I am sobering up. Fuck.”

“Your ten minute drunks have always confused the hell out of me.”

Bess lay back on the couch and Hutch eased on top of her. Their lovemaking was slow and gentle and restful. When they climaxed there was no dirty talk. There was just a loving embrace and the soft words that flowed from both of their lips at the same time, “I love you.”

Bess and Hutch both got dressed. Bess fixed some coffee while Hutch again looked over the file he was about to show her. They both sat down at the table and Hutch handed Bess the file on Kyle Kingsterone. Hutch told her, “People are saying he is innocent. There are even some college kids already working to get him released. It is not exactly what Dude (Hutch’s friend who owned the magazine) planned but I say rather than doing articles on other convicts you should focus on this one. Then we will see if we can get another subject for a different type of article approved by Dude.”

Bess nodded. “Yeah, the more I looked at the files I was browsing the less I wanted to interview or have anything to do with any of those people. I say lock them up and throw away the key.” Bess eyed the file that Hutch had given her. “A serial killer. I don’t know.”

Hutch said, “The thing is that he does not fit the profile of a serial killer. There is not clear pattern to the people that he was convicted of killing or was suspected of killing. There were women and there were men. Two of them were black and three of them were white. There was a teacher, a construction worker, a nurse, a stripper, and a police officer.”

Bess asked, “So how was he linked to all of them?”

“There was a police line up where people had seen someone strange in the area before each of the killings. He was identified in one of those line-ups but other people were identified in other line ups. The main thing that got him convicted was that his DNA was found at the home of the stripper who was killed.”

Bess said, “What about the other victims?”

“There was no DNA that linked back to him and later the DNA found at the home of the stripper was highly contaminated. Also she was the last victim and the first police officer on the scene was later found to have planted evidence in another case. That officer had access to his DNA that had been collected from the suspect before it was found at the crime scene.”

Bess asked, “Besides the contaminated DNA what was the most striking evidence that caused the jury to convict him?”

“The eye witnesses. Even in the line ups where someone else was identified, the person who was identified favored him. He did not have alibi for any of the killings. But probably most of all, the judge allowed in a confession that was beaten out of him. He later recanted that confession.”

Bess said, “So the case was hanky and problematic but he could still be guilty as hell.”

“Yeah, but you can build him into a sympathetic character. For the article or articles you need to believe he is innocent.”

Bess looked at the picture of him. “He is a handsome devil. That will make it easier to make him likeable. I have to tell you though, in my gut, I think the police and the jury may have been right to convict him. I’d be lying if I said that thought does not scare me.”

“I can call Dude and tell him you have decided he should hand the article off to someone else.”

“Yeah. Let the college kids who have already been working to get him released write the articles. I will be glad to meet with them and help with their articles. Call me a coward but I really do not want to have anything to do with this guy.”

Hutch smiled. “Okay. That is good idea. The college kids can write their articles on what they did from their perspective and then you can write another piece on them that will probably give the subject matter a bit more balance. I will talk to Dude in the morning. I am sure he will go for it.”

“Aren’t I awful. You hand me a way that I might be able to advance my writing career and I…”

“No. I am glad you put being careful ahead of any thirst for success. I’ve already lost one woman that I loved to a killer. I don’t want to risk history repeating itself. I was not thinking that dealing with these convicts or this convict in particular might put your life in danger. Shit. I am glad you have the good sense to know you need to be careful.”

Steve Webster and Bobby White lay naked in bed together. They weren’t sure where their relationship was going or even if they had a relationship but things had slowly changed from where they would just hook up for casual sex. They had developed a closeness that was both comforting and bothersome to both of them.

Bobby flipped channels on TV while Steve began to play with his own cock. Suddenly a picture of Jane Wilifar, an old girlfriend of Steve’s, fell off the dresser.

Bobby screamed, “What the hell? Do you have ghost?”

Steve said, “I don’t know. I had a strange dream about Jane last night. I don’t really remember the details but just remember that she was in the dream.”

Steve’s cellphone rang. He answered, “Hello.”

“This is Jane. I know it has been like a year since we have talked or e-mailed or anything but I started thinking about you. Do you mind me calling?”

“Of course not. You know I will always think the world of you.”

“Are you in a relationship?”

Steve asked Bobby, “Are we in relationship?”

“Hell no.” Bobby mumbled to himself, “If you have to ask, no.”

“I guess not. How about you?”

“No. I was and then, uh, ah, shoot, he dumped me. It was kind of weird.” Jane paused a moment. “I have this function I have to attend. It is my brother’s wedding here in New York. Would you mind coming to New York and being my escort?”

“In New York. When will the wedding be?”

“It will be in one week. I guess my calling you is kind of short notice.”

“No. Actually, right now is a good time for me to travel. I see no reason that I should not be able to make it to New York to attend the wedding with you. It will be fun to see you and catch up on shit and stuff.”

“Cool. I’ll call you and give more details about the schedule as soon as I learn the plans for sure. My brother knocked the girl up and so it is all kind of short notice. Bye.”

“Okay. Bye.” Steve closed his phone. He turned and stared at Bobby. “You are acting angry.”

Bobby said, “I’ve decided that I am going to accept the job offer from my Uncle. I am going to move to Hotville.” Bobby bounced out of bed and raced into the bathroom to take a shower. Steve could hear Bobby talking to himself. “He is still in love with Billy. He is still in love with Jane. I am just casual sex. What the hell am I doing here?”

Steve walked over and listened closely at the door. He thought he heard Bobby crying. Steve screamed through the door. “Love! I am not even sure I know what that four letter word means but I have feelings for you. I am just not sure I want to be in a relationship and the last time we had this discussion you made it very clear to me that you wanted to keep your options open.”

Bobby opened the door. He hugged Steve. Bobby said, “I know. I know. And I doubt I can be totally monogamous any more than you can. I just… I don’t know. There is a part of me that is starting to want more than just sex and laughs.”

“Are you ready to come out of the closet?”

“Well part of what I will be doing for my Uncle and with my cousin Mikey is running a gay bar. My father is the one who talked my Uncle into offering me the job so maybe I wasn’t as far in the closet as I thought. I wasn’t sure I wanted the job but I think I am ready for the change.”

Steve laughed. “I didn’t realize. You are maturing.” Steve thought a second. “What about your mother and your brothers? What do they think about it?”

Bobby shrugged. “I do not really know. They do not really want me to move to Hotville but as far as working with Mikey, I am not even sure they fully know he is bisexual.”

Steve said, “Well, you know my mom has business interest in Hotville. We do decorating jobs for the Sloth family. Just because you are moving to Hotville does not mean it is like you will be moving to some foreign planet. I will be going there and you can be coming back to Atlanta. Please do not push me away.”

Bobby laughed. He kissed Steve on the lips. “Shit. You know you are like a drug and I am an totally addicted to you. As long as you do not push me away, I will never push you away.” Bobby massaged Steve’s chest. “You know, if you go to New York and have sex with your old girlfriend, that is okay. I do not know why I was feeling all jealous. And I totally dig Billy Bingo.”

Steve said, “Billy is all broken hearted over Rachel marrying Dirk. What if we get him to go to Hotville with us when we go down to scout you out a place to live.” Steve could not quite read Bobby’s face. “Or we could just go, the two of us. Or did you want to go by yourself.”

“My Uncle Keith and Mikey have invited me to live at the White Mansion.”

“Oh. So will I be welcome there.”

“I don’t see why not.”

“I don’t have to go there. It is not like I am poor. I can rent a room.” Steve stepped away from Bobby. “So you are not going to need help buying furniture or moving or anything?”

“Shit, I can pretty much fit everything I own in a suitcase.”

Silently Steve walked away to get dressed and Bobby closed the door to take his shower.

Chapter 1

Billy Bingo sat naked on a stool and stared into a mirror. “I am a witch. I am a shape-shifter.” He touched the mirror.

Billy stood up. Did he want to get dressed or did he want to go back to bed? He had agreed to what Kane Bishop wanted. He had made a deal with Judge Haskel. He told himself it was to protect his family. “I am such a loser,” Billy moaned. Billy looked back at his bed.

Billy heard the sound of a moving truck in the parking lot of the Minion Plex where he still lived with his parents. He glanced out the window to see the very beautiful woman, Janet Silverton, giving instructions to two moving men who were unloading her furniture. “She is nice looking,” Billy said as he looked, looked, and looked some more.

Billy got dressed and was just about to exit his bedroom when there was knock on his door. He opened the door to see Detective Face standing there. Detective Face looked none too happy. Billy felt a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach. He looked back at his beckoning bed. He knew he couldn’t spend the rest of eternity in bed with the covers pulled up over his head but it seemed a rather comforting thought.

“Are you here to arrest me?” Billy asked Detective Face.

“No. You are protected. For now! Higher ups were asking me some questions and pointing some fingers, but people higher than them ordered that the matter be dropped.”

“Thanks.”

“Have you told your parents anything?”

“No.” Billy considered his words. “I know you work for the Judge’s wife, Mrs. Haskel.”

“Yeah, I work for Marjone Haskel. She told me about your visit. It was a relief that you two worked it out because I really did not want to go against the Legman. That is, I didn’t want to go up against you because of old times and all.”

Billy shrugged. Billy said, “My memory of those days is still somewhat foggy.”

Detective Face cocked his head. He knew there were things not well with Billy and in truth he knew Billy was a rather odd sort. Still, he considered that Billy had been a good friend. Detective Face said, “Back in the day, your advice helped me to get out of some very tough spots. It is because of your help that I was able to become a policeman and am able to work for the police today.” Detective Face paused and shrugged. “Yeah, I know I am a dirty cop and all, but still I’d like to think I do some good.”

Billy said, “There is no doubt that you helped me to get out of a jam at the Harris place. Thank you.”

“Here is the thing. Pretty much everyone who is anyone knows to stay the hell away from the Kane Bishop case. The rub is that a lowly traffic cop and her erotic mystery writing Aunt Tess Favor have latched onto the case. A picture fell into the hands of Mrs. Favor that is a picture of you at the Harris Place when the reported death of Kane Bishop is said to have happened at said place.”

“The picture doesn’t prove anything. The Harris family were my friends.”

“Mrs. Haskel is afraid that the scrutiny will uncover that which does not need to be uncovered. She is afraid that Janet Silverton—a traffic cop, trying to make detective—is going to cause a problem. Seeing that picture got Ms. Silverton and her Aunt, Tess Favor, snooping about and spying on you. Now Janet Silverton is here, right out there in the parking lot, and she is moving into the Minion Plex.”

Billy looked out the window at the beautiful Janet Silverton. His dick moved a little to the right. “She is moving here to spy on me.”

“I would guess that is the main reason she is moving here.”

“She is one good-looking woman. I might like her peeping in, spying, on me.”

“Yeah. I hear that.” Detective Face shook his head. “Anyway, Mrs. Haskel used her contacts to change your history a bit.”

“Change my history?” Billy asked, “How is that?”

Detective Face handed Billy a large envelope. “That contains all the background information that you will need to know. The short of it is that you now have a four-year degree in Criminology. You have passed the required test. The State Board approved you. And you are now a licensed Private Detective with your own company. The cover story of why you were following Kane Bishop is that you were working on a case when working under another detective, while also going to college.”

“Don’t you think that is rather elaborate and rather pointless? Besides, my parents and other people will know that isn’t right. They know most of my classes in college involved interior decorating.”

“Do they? Were they really that much interested in your college life?”

“It was a Junior College. They know that much.”

“You graduated from Georgia State. The speed you completed the required classes was rather amazing but possible.” Detective Face smiled. “In case there are any questions, use your magic powers to change memories. When I was caught shop lifting that time and you altered the memory of the store clerk, that was amazing.” Detective Face reached out and hugged Billy. He patted him on the back. “You will make a great Private Dick.” With a smile Detective Face backed away from Billy. He said, “You will make an excellent detective.”

Billy started to try to explain to Detective Face he didn’t remember helping him or how he had done it. He started to explain his memory of being the Legman was fuzzy at best but he had already told Detective Face that much. Billy decided it best not to give details on how hopeless and confused he currently felt. Instead he thanked Detective Face.

Detective Face said, “Mrs. Haskel is rather obsessive but she is good to the people she considers her friends. I think this ruse is more than just giving you a cover story but giving you a life. I mean, I was with her part of the time that she was working this out and she was thinking of you. She kept telling me, this will be good for Billy.”

“Me a detective. I don’t know. I will try to make her plans, the ruse, work. It is all kind of odd, but I will try.”

Detective Face said, “The name of your new company is the Naked Truth Agency. I hope that name is okay with you. When I thought about opening my own agency that is the name I was considering.”

“I like the name. So at this new company, what will be your position?”

“I am still employed as a Police Detective. Although Marjone Haskel and the Judge are retired, some old business sometimes come to ahead and I am needed to troubleshoot. She still needs me on the inside.”

“How am I going to run a Detective Agency without someone who knows what they are doing?”

“You will do okay. Hell, Legman, you will be a natural.”

Billy looked out the window at Janet Silverton. “So I am supposed to convince that lady and others that my involvement in what went down in Rockdale was because I was working for a Detective and not because of my past; my childhood. I am supposed to act like I am a professional detective.”

“You wouldn’t believe some of the clowns who contact me almost on a daily basis who call themselves Detective. You will do okay.”

“I don’t want to be one of those clowns. If I am going to do this, I want to do it right. I want to be respected.”

“I can’t say I haven’t thought about going private at times. Do you seriously think you will be able to stand working with me on a daily basis? And you know I will remain loyal to Marjone Haskel.”

“I understand that.” As Billy spoke he considered the big secret. He thought a moment. Billy asked, “What do you know about Kane Bishop?”

“You mean, do Marjone and I know that Kane is still alive? Yes, but the Judge does not know.”

“Well, if you hadn’t have known, that is the only thing that I can think of where we might have had a conflict. Of course you know that if the Judge or Mrs. Haskel were to attempt to hurt someone I care about then I will go against them to protect the people I love.”

“And you understand that if you go against the Judge or Marjone and I learn about it then I will tip them off.”

“I understand.”

“I will talk to Marjone and see if she agrees that I should help you with the Detective Agency. If she says yes then I will give notice and I will go to work for you in helping you with the Naked Truth Agency.”

“Good.”

As Detective Face left, Billy thought to himself, “If he doesn’t go to work with me, I am going to have to be very careful with this scam that Mrs. Haskel has created. I hope she is not going back on what was agreed. I hope she is not trying to set me up for some kind of a take down.”

* * *

After Detective Face left Billy, Billy called Steve Webster. “Tell your mom that I need a magic spell to be able to change memories. Supposedly at one time I was able to do that but I don’t remember.”

Steve told Billy that he would talk to his mom and then get back to him. About an hour later Mrs. Webster came knocking at the door. Billy and she walked outside to stroll around the grounds of the Minion Plex. While walking around Billy noticed Janet trying to watch him but without being noticed.

Janet Silverton was dressed in a lime green bikini with pink polka dots. Wearing a straw hat and large yellow sunglasses she was easily noticed by most people. Of course Billy mainly noticed her drop dead gorgeous figure as he leered Janet’s direction.

Linda laughed. She said, “Yeah, I couldn’t compete with that but please keep your attention on our conversation and me.”

Billy winked. “Now come on. You know you are beautiful.” Then Billy said, “That woman there is sexy but according to Detective Face, she and her aunt are the problem.” Billy explained the situation to Linda Webster.

Linda wished she had an easy answer for Billy’s predicament, but she was at a loss. She said, “My powers are very limited. I have no idea how to cast such a spell as the recollection spell. I am sure Amberline knows such a conjuration but she is, well, you know the situation. I’ve considered getting a friend to help break the incantation she has placed on herself and end her being Jackie Jenkins but I not only have to think of you but also your half brother Dirk.”

“I understand. It is a quandary, but I think it is best to let Amberline continue enjoying being Jackie. I’ve contemplated different things about this situation. I’ve imagined how great it would be if Jackie were to turn back into Amberline and I could talk to her as my mother. I’ve thought about going to her. Shit, I’ve even got into my car and sat there, the engine running, with every intention of visiting her and telling her the situation but then I don’t. There is a part of me that wants to tell Amberline that I am her son, but hell, Maureen standing there at the window and watching us; she is my mom. She raised me. So then I think how fucked up the entanglement of our lives might all become if people start becoming aware of the secrets. How can I expect Amberline and other people to deal with what I haven’t even been able to fully grasp. It isn’t important that she know. Is it?”

Linda said, “It would be an emotional shocker for her, as it was for you, but I am not sure. Sometimes I think it is important for her to learn that you are her son. She could help you mature as a witch and learn things. She could teach you things that I am not capable of teaching you. What is more, you are her son, and the Elders could not stop her from teaching you. If I requested permission from the Elders, I am not sure that the Elders would even allow me to teach you what little I am capable of doing. They can stop me, but they couldn’t stop Amberline from teaching you. That is her right as your mother.”

“I understand what you are saying. There is no doubt that it would be mighty convenient—if things were not so complicated—to be able to go to her right now. It may sound cowardice of me but I am not ready to have that most odd of conversations a person might ever endure. And if Jackie or Amberline is even less ready for that conversation and were to freak out, even reject me, it would be devastating.”

Linda said, “I agree. You are not ready for the conversation and neither is she. So what are you going to do?”

Billy said, “Apparently, as Legman I was capable of performing magic. Detective Face said I did know the memory spell.” Billy shook his head. “Ironically, I sure as hell don’t remember it now. If there were just someway to trigger the memory of how I did the spell.”

“I’ve tried to find information on the Legman. I wasn’t doing it to be snooping but I thought it might be helpful to know more about you as him.”

“I understand. So what have you been able to discover? Have you learned anything that might help me recall the spell?”

Linda shrugged and shook her head no. “I would guess the Legman is an alter ego—a personality—from a past life. In that personality you know things that you don’t know as Billy. Trauma probably caused you as Billy to pull back and emerge as the Legman, and as the Legman to know things that you knew in some previous life. You found comfort in being the Legman just as Amberline is now finding comfort in being Jackie.” Linda thought a second. She shook her head. “Anyway, I haven’t been able to find any information on who the Legman might have been or who you might have been in a past life. I’ve thought about consulting the Elders on the matter but I am terrified to address them.”

Billy stared at Linda. He couldn’t imagine her being terrified. “Scared?” Billy had no idea who or what the Elders are but the fact she was scared of them caused him a bit of trepidation. “You have always seemed so confident. I can’t imagine you being afraid.”

“There are some things that scare each of us. We all have our phobias. Regardless, I think that even if we knew more about the Legman it would be hard to trigger the memory. It might even be dangerous to try such a feat.”

Billy looked over at Janet pretending to admire flowers in a garden while peeping glances at Billy and Linda. Then he looked at his mom still standing at the window and watching. He turned back to Linda. “I really need to make sure that people will believe that I was acting as a detective, dating back to when I was following Kane Bishop. Do you know of anyone who can help me with the spell?”

“If we could find Amberline’s Library on witchcraft, the spell is probably in one of her books. I know her library is at the old Darko Place in Hotville but the library is well hidden. I have no idea where in the Mansion the library exists. As far as a person who can help you with such a massive spell as altering the memory of lots of people, there are only two that I know about who can accomplish such a mission. There is Amberline of course, who we have both dismissed from helping you for now, and then there is your adversary, Kane Bishop.”

“So the Library is my best bet.”

“Kane Bishop is your quickest bet if he will help you.”

“I guess I could pay a visit to Sylvia Trundle. She most likely knows where he can be found.” Billy considered his last encounter with the duo. “Whatever happens, I guess I will do what I have to do.”

* * *

After Ralph Shath left the Apartment Complex known as the Minion Plex and he no longer managed it, the White Family moved back into the Apartment Complex. The family simply couldn’t get the quality and size of the Apartment for the rent at any other place.

Bobby White’s younger brother Doug White watched Janet Silverton watching Billy Bingo. “What does he have that I don’t have?” Doug looked down at his own black shoes and his white socks. He stared at his green and brown plaid shorts. “Okay, maybe I do need to work on my wardrobe. I also need an edge if Billy Bingo is going to be my competition.”

Doug White left his spying position and walked to the sliding door in the back of Janet Silverton’s Apartment. He knew a trick to bump the door so that even locked it would slide open. Feeling somewhat nervous Doug bumped the door, opened it, and stepped inside of Janet’s home. There were boxes everywhere. Obviously, she was not yet fully unpacked from moving into her new place. “God, I don’t know even where to start.” Then he noticed she had left an address book open on the counter between the living room and the kitchen. “I am glad she has not gone fully high tech.”

Doug picked the address book up. On the first page were phone numbers from where she worked at the police department. “Oh, my god, she is a policewoman. That would be so hot to date a policewoman.” Then he thought how he had broken into her home. “Oh my god, I have broken into a policewoman’s home.” Still he continued reading in her address book. He saw the address and phone number to her Aunt Tess Favor. He knew who Tess Favor was. He liked reading, jerking off, and being entertained by her books. Doug continued flipping the pages. Toward the back of the book he saw the address and phone number for the 5th Side Strip Club. “I wonder what that is about.” At the bottom of the page he saw she had scribbled, “Friday Nights only.” He thought, “Strange.”

Leaving the address book on the counter Doug walked to her bedroom. In her closet he saw her police uniforms. Then he noticed some rather flashy and very sexy clothes. He touched the clothes. Then he smelled the clothes. “I do like that smell.” Doug left the bedroom and walked to another bedroom in the Apartment. In the center of that room was a stripper pole. “A stripper pole!” He supposed some women use dancing and stripping for fun and exercise. The pole didn’t necessarily mean Janet Silverton was a stripper but he had seen the phone number for the 5th Side Strip Club in her address book. “Could it be that she is both a policewoman and a stripper?”

Doug heard the front door to Janet Silverton’s home open. He thought to himself, “Oh fucking hell, my life is over.” Then he looked over at the partially opened window.

Doug heard Janet talking on the phone. Janet said, “I really would like to dance Friday. Do you have any time slots open? … Are you sure Marge will not mind sharing her slot with me? I like Marge and do not want to make her angry. … Oh, okay. Then I will be there the last Friday of this month. That is good. Thank you. Bye.”

Doug quickly climbed through the window, out of the Apartment, and made his escape. Running across the back landscape he tripped over a garden hose. Brushing off the dirt he quickly stood up and darted to the back patio of where he lived. His brother Benjamin lay reclined on a chase lounge sunning.

Out of breath, panting, Doug looked at his brother and wondered if Benjamin had seen anything to suspect what he had been doing. Benjamin repositioned the lounge up to a sitting position and cocked his head at his older brother. Benjamin then reached over to a glass of lemonade and sipped a drink.

“What?” Doug asked. “That look?”

“Nothing. Well. There is something. Do you remember Kyle Kingerstone?”

“Yeah, I remember him from school. Why?”

“He is on death row. He is a convicted serial killer.”

“No way! In biology he passed out while dissecting a frog.”

“The jury convicted him. They say he killed nine people.”

“Fuck. I sure am glad I didn’t tease him when he passed out in biology. Who did he kill?”

“Random. Strangers. The paper said none of them seemed to have any link between them.”

“Damn. Kyle Kingerstone a serial killer. I guess you never know.”

Benjamin and Doug sat silent for a moment. Then Doug asked, “Say, have you seen the new woman who is moving into the Minion Plex?”

“No. You know I don’t know half the people who live here. I wouldn’t know new neighbors from old neighbors.”

Doug said, “If you had seen her you would have noticed. Shit. She is good looking.”

“You act like a player with your nerd friends. I know better.”

“I don’t see a woman hanging on your shoulder.”

“That is the truth. I just… I don’t know. I guess I am as big of a nerd as you are. Can a person who maintained a C average in school be a nerd?” Benjamin laughed and finished his glass of lemonade as he stood up to go inside.
