Chapter 12

Billy felt nervous as Linda drove toward the caves.

Steve was in Hotville with Bobby when Linda called her son. Linda told Steve to meet Billy and her at the Holly Garage that was not too far from the entrance to the abandoned campground where the Caves were located. The closer Linda and Billy drove to Holly Garage the more crowded the roads became. Linda had thought the Holly Garage would not attract much traffic but apparently a lot of people had thought of it as a place where they could meet up.

Linda called Steve back. “Holly Garage is out. Too many people. Let us go to the Darko Mansion and enter the caves there. It is a pretty good walk from there through the caves to the main cave but that is probably better than trying to work through the crowds.” Then Linda looked back at the car behind her as she absentmindedly hung up on Steve. “Hell. That Tess Favor is still following me. Shit. I think I may like that lady.”

Billy said, “If I wasn’t concerned for their safety I would not care but I have no idea what is going to happen.”

I am going to see if I can lose them. Linda turned on a dirt road that ran next to Holly Garage. She then turned into a pasture and sped through the field. Linda screamed, “Hold on. I am going to use a bit of magic as I jump the creek and I am not that good with this spell.” Linda rose her car into the air and accidentally spun it upside down. “Shit.” She then turned it right-side-up and landed both past the creek and past the pasture’s fence and was back on the road. “This is actually a short cut to the Darko place.”

Tess screamed, “Did you see that? That wasn’t natural. I knew that woman was a witch.”

Janet stared at her Aunt Tess. “It was just a car stunt. She is a good driver. How can you believe that Linda is a witch?”

Tess ignored the question. “I put a tracking device on her car as we walked past it going to my car. Get my cellphone out of my pocketbook and pull up my Tracking App.” Tess spun her car around and quickly sped back to the Holly Garage.

Janet said, “It looks like she has stopped at some place on the lake. Your App does not show the address. Wait. It does show Darko Street.”

Tess slammed on the brakes and looked at her phone. “If I am not mistaken she has driven to the Darko Place. I wonder why?”

Janet shrugged. “I have no idea. I have no idea what the hell is going on.”

Linda and Billy entered the Darko Mansion. Linda turned a light on and told Billy. “I was going to have this as a surprise for you. Dirk had sold the Darko Mansion to Count Duso but he has vanished and hasn’t been paying on it. I bought it and this is ours together.

Billy said, “I don’t know what Steve will think about you and me as lovers.”

Linda giggled. “Don’t think it has not crossed my mind when I am lonely at night. I have looked for Amberline’s library here but I have not been able to locate it. So for right now all I have is my mother’s library for you to study spells and how to do stuff.” Then suddenly Linda screamed, “I hung up on Steve while he was telling me something. Shit, I need to call him back.”

Linda said, “Hey Steve, sorry about the disconnection. Billy and I are at the Darko place. How long before you get here?”

Steve said, “Yeah, I didn’t want to do all that walking from the Darko Place. Bobby and I are already in the Cave. I have no idea how to get to the main cave though.”

“You know about where Billy and I will enter from the Darko Cave Base. Watch for us in that area.”

“Okay, we will be waiting.”

Linda hung up. “He brought Bobby with him. Something else for me to worry about. You know Steve isn’t a powerful witch, not even as powerful as I am, so he can’t deal in this world very well and so now he is bringing Bobby into it. I am afraid for Steve. I should not even have told Steve about this but it is his part of heritage. I felt he should know that Alicia killed his grandmother and that Kane is his Uncle.”

Billy said, “You had to tell Steve what is going on but I wish you had talked him out of coming to the Caves. I understand it is his heritage but the witch Alicia has wanted him dead. She has been trying to kill Steve and you know we are entering a dangerous situation.”

Linda said, “I know that. God, I know that. I want to pump myself up for the thrill of Alicia Silver getting taken out of this world. Still, I know if Alicia’s army comes down to help her against Kane and the Legman doesn’t come out to help Kane, we could all be slaughtered. Amberline’s spell to protect Steve might not work at that point if all hell breaks lose. I know Alicia and her army are capable of much mayhem. She is one evil bitch. You are right. I am going to call Steve back and tell him to get the hell out of the Caves.”

Linda called Steve. “Steve I should have argued harder against you coming to the Caves. I know you want to be in the Caves for me and for the memory of your grandmother but you are not a powerful witch and if this goes badly you and Bobby could be in great danger.”

Steve said, “Mom, I love you. Bobby and I both care a great deal about Billy. I don’t know what we can do if things go badly but I can’t live a life time of regret if I turn away and leave these caves like a coward. You didn’t raise a coward. Besides, Amberline’s spell has protected me so far.”

“Okay, Okay but if things go badly and there is nothing you can do to help, please have the sense to get yourself and Bobby the hell out of there. I love you.”

“And I love you. We will be waiting for you and Billy.”

Billy said, “Yeah, I didn’t think he was going to leave the caves but it was worth a try.” Billy looked around the entry corridor. Trying to take his mind off the danger Billy commented, “It needs some work but this is a magnificent place.”

Linda said, “Amberline and I spent a good bit of time here. I had almost forgotten how much I love the Darko Mansion and grounds.”

Linda opened a door that was a stairway to the basement. She flipped a light and she and Billy walked down to where there was an elevator. “The Elevator will take us down to the Darko Cave Base and from there we should be able to reach the main Cave that is at the abandoned Sloth Campground. I don’t know why I didn’t think about this sooner. I guess because I hate walking.”

As they exited the elevator into the Darko Cave Base Billy joked, “If I was a superhero this would be so cool. My very own cave.”

Linda touched Billy’s arm. ‘Well honey, if you actually have to join Kane to help him fight Alicia and her army, in my eyes you will be a Superhero.”

Billy said, “The Legman. Without my alter ego I will not be any help. Let us hope if he is needed he will make an appearance.”

Linda used a spell to speed up how she and Billy were walking. The closer they came to the main Cave where the fight was going to take place, the more people were stirring around in the caves. Most had no idea where they were going. It was a maze where those that didn’t know their way about would simply circle around and around and then end up back on the outside of the cave.

Tess realized going to the Darko Mansion would help her find where the sword fight was going to be but there wasn’t time. She realized that Billy and Linda would be long on their way into the caves from the Darko Place. Cussing, Tess parked at the Holly Garage. She and Janet followed the people down the paths into the Campground and then into the Caves. Tess and Janet had circled out of the caves twice before they managed to maneuver deeper. Even deeper, still, Tess didn’t feel like they were making progress.

Tess moaned, “We are going to miss the sword fight. Fucking hell.”

Janet stared at her aunt. “Why do you want to see it? I don’t understand. And of course you know this is illegal. Remember how embarrassing it was when you were doing research, or at least you said you were doing research, and you were arrested at a cockfight. Now just imagine if we are arrested where two people are engaged in a sword fight to the death.”

Tess said, “Fuck hell, girl, just imagine watching two witches fighting to the death. This does not happen every day and just think how wonderful it will be to watch the duel.”

Janet said, “I think that is Steve Webster standing over there with Bobby White.”

Tess said, “Oh yeah girl, you have an eye. And I bet you that they will meet up with Linda and Billy.”

Steve noticed Janet and Tess watching him. He was not sure how to react but he decided to ignore them and pretend that he had not observed them. When he saw his mom and Billy doing a fast walk toward them he grabbed Bobby by the hand and raced toward his mom hoping that the crowd would prevent Tess from seeing exactly which way they went. Tess took Janet’s hand and together they made a mad dash to keep up with Steve.

So in a rather obscure, narrow, dark corridor that appeared to the casual observer to be a dead end stood Linda, Billy, Steve, Bobby, Tess, and Janet. Linda looked at Tess and Janet. “What the two of you are doing here is dangerous. Steve, take Tess and Janet and get them hell out of here.”

Tess stated, “We are not going. I want to watch the sword fight.”

Billy said, “Look, if Alicia starts to lose and calls upon her army to join her fight they might start killing everyone in the caves. This is not a game.”

Tess felt odd as if something was calling from within her. With blurred vision, Tess swayed back and forth for a moment. In a soft voice Tess asked, “Alicia? Alicia Silver? She is not just a legend? The vampire witch is real? Who is she fighting?”

Linda moaned. “You do not need to know. Please get out of here. Don’t you understand that I am honestly worried for your safety.”

“Aunt Tess, listen to her. We need to leave. Look at all these bikers. This is a rough crowd.”

Tess shook her head no. Her words were loud and clear, “I want to see the sword fight.” Then in a more soft and subdued voice Tess stuttered in trying to saying something else but her words, “Help me,” would not form correctly. She held her head and tried to fight the strange impulse that had driven her to bring her niece into the deadly specter that might await them in caves.

Linda said, “We’ve got to get into the big cave before the fight starts. We don’t have time to argue this out so come on. If you want to see a sword fight then you are going to see a sword fight.”

So together Linda led them through the narrow caves that eventually led to the Big Cave. At the top balcony surrounding the large Colosseum Linda and those with her looked down at the descending rows of stone benches. The benches, with different colors painted on each row of seats formed colored circles around the arena. Each descending row totally circled the large arena at the bottom of the rows.

As Bobby looked from the balcony down the rows and toward the arena he felt dizzy. “I have a bit of vertigo here.”

Tess looked pale and she trembled. “Tell me about it.”

Janet looked at her Aunt. “Are you alright?”

“No. I don’t want us to be here.”

Janet puzzled at her Aunt. “What? You have been saying… Well, you know what you have been saying.”

Linda stared at Tess. Linda now realized something was not right with Tess. “Why would a witch want the two of you here?”

Janet asked, “What?”

Linda said, “Nothing. You two stay close to me. Please stay close to me.”

On the large stone benches sat Alicia’s army while more scattered and fewer was the army of Kane Bishop. Most of his army sat spread out on the opposite side of the arena. Then above them sat the onlookers who knew the path through the caves to the Big Cave. Not all of them fully understood what was about to happen. Everyone kept their eyes toward the arena waiting for Kane Bishop and Alicia Silver to make their entrance.

As Tess stared at the supernatural biker army, she couldn’t believe she had brought her niece into such a crowd and to such a place to witness what was surely to be a bloody spectacle. Shaking, Tess finally began to sputter out words that made more sense. Tess asked Linda, “Is it too late for me to get Janet the hell out of here. I feel like I have just come out of a spell of sorts. Why on earth would I bring Janet here? Why didn’t I listen to you?”

Linda answered, “I didn’t realize it until just moments ago but I am certain you were under a spell. I am sorry I didn’t realize sooner and did not do more to prevent the two of you from being here.”

Alicia Silver walked down one side of the aisle of benches as Kane Bishop walked down the other side. They each stood on opposite sides of the round arena but it was Alicia who stood on the side where Janet sat with her Aunt Tess. Alicia put her hand on Janet’s shoulder as Kane watched helpless.

Kane screamed, “Linda, Janet is my daughter. She is our mother. Do not let Alicia kill her!”

Linda spelled her own sword forward from the ether and clashed it against Alicia’s sword just as Alicia tried to strike her sword to behead Janet. Linda cried to Billy, “I am no match to fight Alicia.” Then Linda realized Billy was not there. She wondered if he had vanished as a coward as she struck blow to blow to fight Alicia. She stumbled forward to lean Alicia back, causing Alicia to step backwards away from Janet. Janet moved forward with her Aunt Tess as they rushed down the stone bleachers and toward the arena. Meanwhile Kane tried to pierce through an invisible wall of magic that Alicia had created to keep him from his daughter, his mother. He feared his cause was lost.

Then a strange figure in a loin cloth appeared next to Linda who Linda did not recognize. It was a man of Herculean build and striking greek beauty. He had a sword in hand to fight Alicia. His voice was a bellow, an echo, a demand, as from the top of Olympus to the bowels of hell. “Alicia you shall go to that arena and fight the man you came to fight. And if your army even lifts a finger to defend your dishonorable and lying ways they shall be caged so long that they will fall into a sleep that will seem like a true death if there were such a thing.”

Alicia spit as she swung her sword at the Shape Shifted Legman. “Your realm will become my realm and I will become a goddess to your realms and to your minion. You do not know with whom you are fucking. You just think you are a god.”

The Legman had shape shifted so none but a few would know him as Billy Bingo. In his very muscular and godly form he clashed his sword against Alicia’s sword strike for strike and blow for blow. Linda quickly moved down in position to guard Steve and Bobby as they moved to join Janet and Tess near the arena.

The Legman bellowed, “The shield prevents Kane from joining you but you can move beyond the shield to be with Kane. Quickly maneuver so.”

Alicia screamed with laughter. “I will deal with them after I kill you.” The Legman’s loin cloth vanished. “You stand before me naked, just another man.”

The Legman grinned and arched his eyebrows. He then made the clothes of Alicia vanish and as he did so he made his cock larger than any cock a mortal man might have and he made his cock erect and he pointed his cock toward the ceiling above the arena. From his cock he shot fireworks into the space just beneath the very high ceiling and in the light from the fireworks a mural was lighted on the ceiling and the mural was of the man who the Legman now appeared as.

For a moment or more, even Alicia was in awe of the man she fought. Still she tried to use her sword to strike into his huge cock. Her sword bent. The Legman grabbed Alicia by the hair of her head as she dropped her sword. “You want to go to my realm because you think you can make it your realm. My kingdom shall never be your kingdom for I am not Adam and you are not Eve, and with your trickery I will not be deceived. I have a place in my Kingdom in the outlands for you. It is called a dungeon.”

“So take me to your dungeon. I will find my escape and I will make my way and I shall build my army for one battle lost is not a war won.”

“This battle is your war that you can not win. There shall be no other battles. Win or lose against Kane, still you are going to be put in a dungeon.”

“Then I will plot my escape now.” Alicia pulled her hair from the Legman’s grip and then naked she jumped on his naked body. She made her vagina large enough for his inhuman size cock and she swallowed his monster cock with her monster vagina. She began to fuck the Legman fast and furious and someone joked, “I thought we were coming to a sword fight. Not a porn production.”

Together the Legman and Alicia rose into the air as they fucked. As they fucked their genitals became larger and larger and so it was like just one giant cock fucking a giant vagina in mid air. Someone screamed, “This is the strangest sex show that I have ever seen and trust me I have seen some pretty weird ones.” There was laughter in the Colosseum.

Then suddenly the Legman shot a load of cum that blasted Alicia to swimming in cum on the floor of the arena. Screaming in horror she swam against the flow of cum that was streaming down a drain. Covered in cum she reached a dry area in the arena and spelled a new sword. Now with a normal size vagina she raced to again fight Linda who stood guard over Janet and friends.

The Legman, now with the same size cock as Billy, flew in Alicia’s way just as she was about to strike her sword against Linda’s sword. Instead it struck the Legman’s sword and they began to fight. The Legman screamed, “You came here to fight Kane and not to murder your daughter.”

“How do you know that she is my daughter?”

The shield that Alicia had created to block Kane broke and Kane joined the Legman. The Legman retreated as Kane took his place to fight Alicia. The Legman told Kane, “Do not try to cut her head off. Aim for her heart and with that blow I will transport her into the dungeon in my realm. If you cut her head off then her soul might be able to escape before I can bind her; cage her.”

Alicia screamed with laughter. “Yeah, aim for my heart. I will survive that blow. Still, this you shall know, I will aim for your head.”

Kane aimed his sword for her throat but missed. Their swords clanged with mighty swings that followed. The Legman backed further away.

The Legman said, “I said aim for her heart but it is your decision. I will try to bind her either way.”

Kane nodded. He screamed, “For my family honor she must die the way she killed my mother.”

“But there your mother stands as your daughter for she was neither treated nor trapped to a realm. If the ghost of this vampire witch dines with the devil, where then will be your family honor.”

Kane and Alicia fought and fought. Then suddenly they both lost their swords and they took to wrestle. Alicia breathed into Kane’s ear, “You once loved me. When your mother tried to break us up, it was not me with whom you were so angry. Remember when we had sex. It was good sex.”

Rolling on the floor Alicia kissed Kane and his clothes vanished. Together they lay naked on the floor. Kane looked up at the Legman watching. Suddenly Kane spelled a wooden dagger painted in silver into his hand. Alicia cried as Kane thrust wooden dagger into her Vampire’s heart. She breathed, “The witch in me shall still live.”

The Legman said, “But it was the vampire in you that was the more evil. Now to my dungeon you go. And there I will help you to remember when you were not so evil.”

Then Alicia vanished and her army rose. They readied to attack.

The Legman screamed, “You now are Kane’s army. You take his orders. Your queen’s orders are rescinded.”

Angry and confused vampire Tommy Harris emerged from the army. He felt a need and a desire to fight. He raised his sword.

The Legman screamed toward Tommy Harris, “Billy once considered you a friend. It was partly for you that Billy tried to kill Kane because Billy thought Kane had killed you.”

Tommy said, “And but for Alicia, Kane would have let me die. Alicia was good to me. God help me but it hurts me, it grieves me, that she is gone.”

The Legman raised his sword to touch Tommy’s sword. “Alicia was not always evil. That has not been forgotten. The pain you feel for her is respected. That you would fight for her is respected. Still, know that if you do not lower your sword then it will not end well for you.”

Tommy stated, “She was our Queen.” And an uproar of support and approval for Tommy’s stand came from Alicia’s army.

Many in the crowd screamed, “Our Queen.”

The Legman nodded. “Your queen is in my dungeon. She gives you no more orders except when I approve. And when I do not approve of what she does or you do, then she will suffer and you all will suffer as what may come.”

Tommy Harris looked around. He stared at Kane. He told Kane, “Alicia was most evil when she was with you.”

Kane moaned as if in pain, “I know.”

Tommy continued, “I kept thinking she would again become that woman I knew in a past life. I so loved her in that past life, but the woman that I loved never came back. That evil you planted in her was so deep. Now I stand without hope that she will ever come back to me. She is gone from me. Forever.”

The Legman said, “No. I will allow you to visit her for there is still hope you can reform her.”

“This you promise. I can visit her?”

“I promise.”

Tommy Harris hesitated but then spoke. “We shall follow this new Kane that has a truce with Billy. If that truce is ever broken, we will follow Billy Bingo.”

A member of Alicia’s army screamed. “We must get revenge for our Queen. We must fight as she would want us to fight.”

Kane spelled a wooden dagger and tossed it in a friendly manner to Tommy Harris. Tommy Harris quickly flung the wooden dagger into the heart of the dissenter. Kane then quickly spelled a second wooden dagger for Tommy Harris to hold.

Cheers went up from Alicia’s army. “We stand by Tommy.” Then another cheer screamed from the crowd, “To staying earthbound vampires. Here. Here.”

The Legman then vanished and Billy emerged from a corridor that ran beneath the benches. Janet asked, “Where were you?”

“I had the shits something awful. Seriously, you do not want to go to the cave from where I just came.”

Kane took Billy’s hand. “To our truce.”

Billy nodded, “To our truce.”

Janet stared at Kane. “You are my father.”

Kane said, “Yes. And you are a witch. I will begin training you as my sister trains Billy.”

Linda said, “Half sister.”

Kane said, “You know the half that is from our mother is the only half that counts.”

Linda nodded. “Indeed. Brother.”

Kane smiled and hugged Linda. “Sister.”

Janet looked around. “Where is my Aunt Tess? She was here and now where is she.”

Billy said, “The Legman told me on his way out that your Aunt has been transported to her bedroom where she is now sleeping soundly. She will not remember any of this.”

* * *

Janet and Billy stood with Bobby and Benjamin at the bed of Doug. Doug was sleeping now but the night before he had awaken from his coma. His awakening had happened the moment the Legman had sent Alicia Silver to a dungeon within his realm.

Bobby said, “I could not believe it. I received the text from Benjamin almost at the same time that Alicia vanished from the arena. It was like the moment she died or whatever happened to her, Doug came out of his coma.”

Bobby had told Benjamin about the night before. It was hard for Benjamin to believe but he knew it was like a miracle when Doug came out of the coma. Just an hour earlier they had been put on death watch and then there he was awake and wanting something to eat.

Benjamin said, “I can’t get over the realization that there is such a thing as witches and I am in the room with two of them right now.”

Billy shrugged. “It is a weird world. I can’t say I fully understand it.”

Janet said, “So the entire time that Doug was in the coma it was in part, at least at some point, because Alicia had put a spell on him. Why?”

“I was planning on trying to heal Doug. If I had not done it very carefully I might have left a mark on his soul. The mark may or may not could have been removed. If Doug had died and the Legman had been unable to remove the mark so that Doug could enter heaven then the Legman would have allowed Doug into his realm. Alicia was trying to force Kane to work with her. She wanted Kane to interrupt me trying to heal Doug while she put a spell in place to bind Doug. If his ghost was bound to her then she could have used Doug to find her way into the Legman’s Realm in a rather covert way. That was her plan but Kane would not go along with it. So then she threatened to kill Kane and to kill you Janet and you know the rest.”

Janet said, “I can’t believe that crazy monster is my mother. What if there is something in me that is that damaged.”

Billy said, “From what I understand Myrtle Claven was a very good woman. She had faults. We all do. But she was a good soul and you are a good soul. I have no doubt of that.”

Kane walked into the room. “So Doug is going to be okay.”

“Yes.”

“Good.”

Kane said, “I was just outside the door when I heard you talking about Alicia. Janet, Billy is right, my mom was a good woman. We disagreed on things and we fought but she was good. I was the one who screwed up. And Janet I know you are concerned that the genetics of me and Alicia may somehow screw you up and so I am going to tell you this. Alicia was not always a monster. In her wars against the government and its supporters her cause was noble. Her first kills were against men who were evil. But as she fought, the line between good and evil became more blurred. Each cause became less justified. Then there was no cause except that Alicia wanted what Alicia wanted. I guess I became the same. Anyway, my point is that the evil did not come from the genetics. Any good person can become evil and any evil person can become good. Once we give up any sense of honor, our code of honor, then evil waits at our door. That is something that Sylvia Trundle reminded me when my conflict with Billy began. She made clear to me that we had to restore some sense of honor to our lives and she told me that if I could make things right with Billy then there was hope for me.”

Billy nodded. “And I was on that slippery slope to lose my sense of self and honor as well.”

Kane reached over and hugged Billy. “Course, you know honor has nothing to do with having fun with sex.”

Billy laughed. “Yeah, we are sluts forever.”

Doug opened his eyes and saw Janet. He took her hand. He kissed her hand. He stated, “I only want one woman.”

Chapter 11

Kane Bishop sat lonely at the RedOak Bar. His lover Sylvia Trundle had traveled to France to vacation and also to see what she could find out about the Legman, Billy Bingo. A friend that she knew who lived in Paris had a rather extensive library on the gods and she thought she might be able to figure out who Billy Bingo is.

Seated as he nursed his drink, Kane watched men and women come and go from the bar. He considered that he would like to fuck around with someone but none of the people seemed very interesting and given no one seemed to be much taking notice of him the feeling of indifference appeared mutual. He was just about to go home when Alicia Silver came into the bar. She was an old “friend,” an old lover, and a very dangerous vampire witch. As she sat down across from Kane, Kane wasn’t certain what he ever saw in her and he equally considered how much he missed Sylvia.

Kane said, “What on earth are you doing here?”

“I was looking for you and here you are. So my old lover, do you want to go somewhere and fuck.”

“We had some good times but I really do not want to start up with you again. We hurt too many people.”

“Oh my, are you still acting all remorseful on how I beheaded your mother. Please. Get the hell over it. We have our daughter to think about.”

“You gave her up for adoption.”

“Only because you made me think she is mortal. You knew I would never raise a mortal daughter. So being the brilliant you, you took it on yourself to fool me and for a while you succeeded.”

“What are you talking about? She is mortal.”

“Please. Kane. If she were truly mortal how would she have ended up with your good friend Billy Bingo. You know in a sea of a million people we witches always manage to end up together.”

“My good friend? Are you insane? Billy Bingo tried to kill me and by the way I now go by the name of Shane Bishop. Call me Shane.”

“Shane. My. How original and different from your birth name. How ever do you remember it?” Alicia Silver laughed and teasingly touched Kane on his nose. “I have missed you. And you can’t deny we were something of a power couple.”

“Power couple. You would use a Hollywood term to describe couples who are total tools, power tools to be used by the elite and the masses alike and then to be thrown away with yesterday’s trash.”

“So you now have an aversion to making money?”

“Now, I just want to live a simple life. I don’t want complications. I don’t want to kill people and I don’t want people wishing me dead.”

“But you know death is just an illusion. No one really got hurt. Not even your mother, though I might wish I did have the power to destroy her so that she might never walk this earth or any realm again.”

Kane shrugged. He sipped his drink. He looked into the eyes of Alicia, her cold eyes. He wondered if she knew. And she looked into his eyes and gleefully realized his puzzlement.

Alicia asked, “Don’t you want to know about our daughter? Or maybe I should say your mother? I know that Janet is the reincarnation of your mother and that is why you convinced me to give her up for adoption by tricking me into thinking that she is a mortal.”

“You are insane. My mother would not be reborn in mortal form. No way. And to all the people she might choose to be her mother, she would never have chosen you. I don’t think she would chosen you in a million years.”

“You know she isn’t mortal. Stop attempting to make me believe that lie. See. I got drunk one night and I got a hankering to see our daughter. Mortal or not I was curious. So I astral projected to her Apartment and she was in the shower. She has the dagger shaped birthmark that you have and Billy has and I have and your mother had. You may have been able to hide the birthmark from me when she was an infant but now I’ve seen the birthmark.”

“So maybe she is a witch but why would you think she is the reincarnation of my mother.”

“Her eyes. She has the eyes, that inner glint, that tell tale that told me so well. Yes, indeed she is your mother. You know it and I know it.”

“Genetics. I am her father. What you saw in her eyes was nothing more than genetics.”

“Do you think I wouldn’t use a spell to prove or disprove my suspicion?”

“So what are you going to do? Kill her again?”

“I have thought about it. You know it is just a matter of time before Janet’s past life personality of your mother, dear Myrtle, emerges and she comes after me.”

“So why are you telling me all of this?”

The Elders are going to have Billy Bingo cure Doug White and risk the gates of heaven forever being closed to the dear mortal boy.”

“So?”

“If you interrupt his spell and cause Doug to die where he can’t go to heaven I will wait at least two years, maybe longer, before I even think about killing Janet.”

“Why? Who is Doug to you?”

“No one. See. Here is the thing. Billy Bingo is a god who controls a realm that is locked. I am not sure how or why it is locked. To me, it is a mystery.”

“So you know who Billy is?”

“I do and I don’t. The ancient times are a mystery. Regardless. Besides his main realm he has another realm in the outlands. He will not let me into the main part of his outland realm. I’ve tried to enter his realm in the past but he refused to allow me even into the outer area. I want to see if what I have been told about its wonders is true.”

“What does any of that have to do with Doug?”

“If Doug can’t go to heaven then the Legman, Billy Bingo, will show him the way into his outer realm and through Doug, if I bind him, I might learn enough to be able to access what I have been told is a most wondrous place.”

“So who is, which god is, Billy Bingo? What is the name of his realm?”

“You do not know who he is?”

“No. What is the name of his realm?”

“If you play my game, that is conspire with me, then I might someday tell you. Hell, we may someday visit his main realm together. Wouldn’t that be fun? Shoot. You and I together, we might even be able to gain control of the place. Imagine us as gods with our very own realm.”

“I am not going to conspire with you against Billy Bingo. Use your own magical powers.”

“I can’t both stop Billy’s spell and bind Doug at the same time. I need an accomplice to accomplish that, which I desire.”

“Find another accomplice. Billy and I have a truce and that truce is going to stay in place, especially now that I know for sure that he is one of the gods and with two realms.”

“What about your daughter that is your mother? Don’t you want to keep Janet safe?”

“I think if you try to hurt her then either she will kill you, Billy will kill you, or I will kill you.”

Alicia stood up. “You are as bad as your mom. These humans have made you soft.”

“In your darkest and most vile dream you wish that I were soft. Cross me, threaten the people I love, and see how soft I will be.”

“Fuck hell, I thought surely you would want this as much as me. We could become gods.”

“We can not even manage a sub-coven without causing damn blood baths and you want us to control a realm. No!”

“If you do not go along with this, I will have to kill you this night. I will not let you warn Billy.”

Kane Bishop stood up and slammed what was left of his drink hard against the table, shattering the glass. “Then to the caves. Get your damn sword and let us fight it out. You do not scare me.”

“I was able to kill your mother. I am that good.”

“In your story you were that good but your story was a lie. See, I now know it was not an honest fight. You drugged her and you fought her as she was struggling to fight the herbs that you had used to poison her. It was not an honest sword fight. You could not beat her in an honest sword fight and you sure as hell can not beat me in an honest sword fight.”

Alicia Silver screamed, “To the damn fucking caves. We will see who is the better sword fighter. I don’t know why in the hell I thought I could trust you with my plan.”

“Because you knew that there is no other witch with the power to do what you were asking. The only chance your plan stood was with me at your side and that is not going to happen.”

Kane rushed out of the bar as Alicia followed soon after. They both rode their motorcycles hard and fast toward Hotville and the caves to have their fight. The other witches in the bar had heard enough of the argument to know there was about to be a sword fight and where the action would be. As they crawled on their bikes to rush toward the caves in Hotville, they called on their phones to let others know of the impending duel to the death. Witch friendly mortals who rode with the witch bikers joined in the frenzy, joined in the mad dash, toward Hotville as word spread. Police watching the roads were puzzled as they saw the sudden flurry of traffic on I-20, bikers in all their glory, going to witness what many if not most had never witnessed before: two witches fighting to their death. Hotels in Hotville were shocked by the sudden over loaded reservation phone lines and how quickly they had been booked to beyond capacity. Word spread to the press that something major was happening in Hotville but no journalist could figure out exactly what. Some decided that there must be some event connected to the college in Hotville causing the huge flow of traffic, but most sources on the campus could not offer an explanation.

Then a snitch came into the office of Detective Joseph Face. The snitch was a mortal and had not really fully understood the ramifications of what he had heard but just from the clamor he knew it was important. What had happened in the bar was not an ordinary argument and what was going to happen in the caves was not going to be an ordinary fight. Bug Carlisle understood that much. Bug Carlisle had been kicked out of Detective Face’s office more than once trying to help out his friend Olivia Destone but this time he just wanted a little spending money for his down low on the info. When Bug mentioned Shane Bishop, Detective Face was all ears. When Bug mentioned that Shane had an argument with Kane Bishop’s old girlfriend Alicia Silver, Detective Face pulled out a couple of twenties to give Bug. When Bug told Detective Face that people were rushing to Hotville to witness a sword fight in the Caves between Shane and Alicia, Detective Face felt a sinking feeling in his gut. He screamed, “Holy fuck.”

Detective Face quickly got on the phone with Billy Bingo. “Yo, Billy. I need you to get to the caves in Hotville. Kane Bishop and Alicia Silver are about to have a sword fight. I know Kane is not your friend but trust me, you and the Legman do not want Kane Bishop to lose this fight.”

Linda walked over to where Billy was talking to Detective Face. Billy said, “I do not understand. Why is Kane Bishop and Alicia Silver going to fight?”

Linda asked, “What is going on? Who are you talking with about Alicia Silver?”

Billy said, “Kane Bishop and Alicia Silver are about to have a sword fight in some caves here in Hotville. Detective Face wants me there to make sure that Kane does not lose.”

Linda said, “Alicia Silver was Kane’s girlfriend. They were a bloody pair back in the day. Then she murdered Kane’s mother; my mother.”

Billy asked, “She murdered your mother and she also murdered Kane’s mother?”

Detective Face remained on the phone listening to both Linda and Billy.

Linda wasn’t sure how Billy was going to take what she was about to explain to him. Still she knew she had to tell him. “See Kane is my half brother. Myrtle Claven was our mother. She saw the bad influence that Alicia was having on Kane and was trying to get Kane to see the light. Mom never liked Alicia cause well, Alicia is a damn fucking monster; a vampire witch as you know. Mom could have beaten Alicia in a fair fight but Alica used herbs to drug mom and mom lost her sword fight with Alicia.”

“You and Steve have always helped me and I trust that. Do not mistake my shock that you and Kane are half brother and sister for doubting your friendship. I’d never doubt that but still, shoot. Kane is your half-brother. God.”

“I know. I should have told you.”

“No. I needed to get to know you and Steve first. You were right to wait until we were better acquainted.”

Linda said, “I am glad you understand. We have to get to the caves. Detective Face is right. If Kane needs our help we have to help him. We can’t let Alicia win.”

“How can I help him? I don’t…”

Detective Face said, “Let us hope that if necessary the Legman will come out and help Kane.”

“Yeah, let us hope. Bye.” Billy hung up with Detective Face. He walked over to Janet. “I have somewhere that I have to go.”

Linda stared at Janet. This was the first time she had seen her up close. Linda realized there was something familiar about her but she could not figure out what.

Suddenly Tess Favor walked up. “I just heard something amazing. Janet, we have to get to the Hotville Caves.”

Billy said, “No. You do not want to go there.”

Tess grinned. “So you know about the sword fight.”

“No. It is just the caves are dangerous.”

Tess looked at Linda and Billy. “You know where the witches are going to meet, don’t you?”

Linda said, “No.”

Tess said, “I am so torn. Should I tell Sheriff Baskerville what I have heard and get him to send police to the caves?”

Janet stared at her aunt. “What on earth are you talking about? Witches? Caves? You tell Sheriff Baskerville about witches and he is going to think you are insane.”

Linda said, “Whatever. Billy, we’ve got to get out of here.”

Billy and Linda began walking just as fast as they could walk. Tess grabbed Janet’s arm and pulled her as they followed after Billy and Linda. They followed so far and then Tess and Janet disappeared down a corridor that was a short cut to the parking lot.

As Billy got in Linda’s car he pointed to the headlights of Tess’ car coming up behind their parking space. “They beat us to the parking lot and now they are set to follow us.”

Linda shrugged. “We can’t worry about that now.”

“I am not ready for Janet to figure out that I am witch.”

“So get the Legman to erase her memory but we can’t waste time dealing with them right now.”

“Okay. Hit the road Jack.”

Linda sped out toward the Hotville Caves just as fast as she could drive.

Chapter 10 – Billy Bingo: When The Legman Comes

Chapter 10

Chapters

Doug White remained in a coma at the Hotville Memorial hospital. Thoughts of a recovery were now seldom mentioned and the horrific thought of a funeral crept into the conscious thoughts of his grieving family.

Steve Webster had joined Bobby White at the hospital and if there had been any doubts they were a couple; those doubts were now gone. Neither Steve nor Bobby were quite certain when their relationship had gone from dicking around to actually loving one another but at some point it had happened just the same. Bobby was thrilled that Steve was going to be a father; a parent with Jane Wilifar and Jane was thrilled that Bobby was thrilled. They felt that they all had issues in their own lives that they needed to work on to be better people but still they felt certain the three of them would be good parents to the baby that the Legman had given a second chance at life.

Billy Bingo came to the hospital to let the family know that Samantha Wilder was in jail and would be there for 3 to 6 months and that when she should be released he would make sure that she would not be a threat to Doug or anyone. As Billy talked to Doug’s parents he noticed Steve and Bobby in an embrace. Then he noticed the worn, beaten, looks on the faces of Doug’s parents. Billy suddenly realized that he had taken Doug’s recovery for granted; but Doug’s family was now doubtful of such a recovery.

———

Billy left from talking with Doug’s parents and walked over to talk with Benjamin. “Stan Wakes is dead and Samantha Wilder is doing time.”

Benjamin nodded. “Now if Doug would just come out of his coma.”

“What are the doctors saying?”

“Each day he is closer to death and his recovery is less likely. If he does not come out of the coma soon the talk will change from his recovery to bringing his suffering to an end; my parent’s suffering to an end, though it will never be such phrased.”

A woman walked up next to Billy from no where. “There was a day in my mind when my parents decided to buy lots in a cemetery. It was a strange day.”

Benjamin walked away from Billy to go to the restroom. Billy guessed Benjamin had retreated to hide himself in the restroom so Billy would not see his tears. Billy had seen the tears forming and the strain in his face.

The woman continued speaking. “It made me so angry. I thought my parents, especially my mother, was planning for her death. In my mind the buying of those funeral plots were like inviting death. I thought if I could just stop the buying of those plots that I could change the future. Wasn’t that silly?”

Billy nodded. “Is your mom sick?”

“She has had various health problems most of her life and I feared she was giving up. Besides buying the lots, she had also started giving things away. Then it was like she had lost her mind. And my mom was always so smart. It was so strange.”

Billy asked, “Alzheimer’s?”

“No. It was grief. Dad and I were killed in an automobile wreck. The plots were for our funeral but in our mind it was us who had to bury her. We went to her grave. We put flowers on her grave religiously. We grieved for her. And at some point we realized that we were ghost haunting the people we love. We realized that it was he and I who were dead.”

Billy pulled out a cellphone to pretend that he was talking on it, so it would not appear he was talking to himself, when he said, “I am so sorry.”

The woman said, “The line between life and death, reality and imagination, is a very thin line. But there are powers that intervene. Someone made us think mom had died from our imaginary world so that our imaginary world would stop bending her reality.”

“Who?”

“I don’t know. As I have gone from my imaginary world of the living to face the reality that I am dead, I now walk with the dead and I hear voices from the shadows. Those voices now tell me that you are a god. Can you help me go to heaven? I want to leave the shadows of death and go to heaven.”

The Legman emerged from within Billy and he vanished from the physical world and into the metaphysical world. He took the woman into his arms. “I am not the God to whom you pray. I am not allowed in his heaven or even into my own mighty realm, my own heaven. But I do have a place in the out lands, a lesser realm, where the space alien witches are not allowed and where your mind might become better in understanding.”

“Space alien witches? I do not understand.”

“There is no reason that you should until you remember, but still, just know. You are welcome to my lesser realm where you will be protected while there.”

“Will I be able to see the people I love when I am there?”

“Your loved ones are not there. But it is not a prison. You might find it a nice refuge from the shadows of death; but you may return to the shadows as you wish to search for those you love.”

“What if I should find my family? Will they be welcome to your lesser realm?”

“If while traveling from my House of Light back into the shadows and you find your family you are welcome to show them to the half area where everyone is welcome. It is not forbidden so long as the House Rules are followed; but understand, without permission they can’t enter the main House.”

“I am hearing voices. Some are saying to trust you as they have guided me to you but now I hear other voices and they are telling me to beware your mark. They say you might curse me where I might never enter heaven.”

The Legman looked at his old friend who was confused and remembered nothing of their past. Jessica Atajay was already marked where she could never enter heaven but he thought it was best to not tell her until he thought she was ready to know.

The Legman said, “Powerful witches and gods do sometimes leave marks when they help people. It is not intentional. I can sometimes remove the lesser marks but there is one mark in particular that I can not yet remove. It would not be I who might curse you with that mark as the voices might be suggesting, but the higher space alien witches that even other space alien witches know nothing about. Those H-SPAWS have been known to mark those who I help. And it is true, the mark of Iapetus, the mark that seals my realm, that keeps people from both entering and leaving its bounds, also can seal even the true God’s Heaven from the deserving. But there again it is not God or his angels or his gate keepers or even his Complex itself that respects the mark but simply it is a trick, a bit of reprogramming, that creates a gate that even St. Peter can’t see. The mark prevents people from reaching the real gate as instead they go to the fake gate. I’d like to forget about the mark and I should have warned you. I pray that someday I can find the spell to do a bit of reprogramming myself to lift the mark and cast the mark out of this computer program. But that is just a dream and I should be better mindful to remember that cursed mark and warn people before I help them.”

“Computer Program?”

“The world is, was, and has always been digital; computer like. When the ancient ones emerged from chaos, the intellectual energy that was and is them, created an intellectual world from the images in their minds. The foundations of those images that creates our seeming realities is a type of computer code which we all alter with our thoughts and our activities. The lesser gods and witches have other abilities to alter the code in a different and often a more amazing way.”

“So we aren’t real? We are just characters in a video game?”

“Of course we are real. It is the idea that this is a clay based world that is intentionally misleading. The ancient ones emerged from the chaos first and are the oldest, but we all emerged from the chaos. Our souls are real. Our souls are not figments of this computer program where we are trapped; where we are prisoners. That is not to say that there are not figments in the computer program, but be mindful that you are real. If somehow you were to escape this computer program beyond the halls of the heavens, you would still exist. But that is not true of everyone. There are figments in this computer program.”

“Why do you tell me so much? You do not even know me.”

“Because I do know you and you know me. I want you remember. Remember!”

“I can’t.”

“You will. You came to me because on some level you do remember.” The Legman screamed but it was more than just a scream. “Remember!” His voice was an attempt at magic in the ether; a scream followed by a whisper. “Please remember.”

Jessica Atajay held her head. She swooned. She lifted into the air and turned in a full circle around. “I have been marked by the H-SPAWS?”

“Right. You already have that mark and lesser marks that closes the gates of heaven to you. I am going to put a map in your mind where you will know how to return to my lesser realm.” The Legman put his hand to Jessica’s head. “Do you see the map?”

“I do see the map and the flags on the map of where I need to take care to avoid the SPAWS. Thank you Legman.” Jessica Atajay vanished.

The Legman then vanished from the metaphysical world and back into the physical world and into Billy. To Billy it was just as though the woman had vanished. Billy had no idea of what the Legman had told her. Red eyed Benjamin emerged from the bathroom. Billy thought there must be a way to save Doug from dying but he had no idea how.

Linda Webster stepped out of an elevator. She looked at her son with Bobby and then looked at Billy. She walked over to Billy. She said, “They are saying that Doug might die. I’ve tried the healing spells that I know but I am not strong and they will not work for me.”

“Can I try the spells?”

“Yes, but they are not Amberline Darko quality. Do not be disappointed if they do not work for you either.”

Billy said, “Sylvia Trundle suggested that I might be a lesser god after she met the Legman when I—that is the Legman was doing the memory spell. Then I just now talked to a ghost who suggested that I am a god. Is that possible?”

“It is possible but you must understand that very powerful witches are sometimes mistaken for gods.”

Suddenly the Legman took over Billy and looked upon Linda with a smile and a look that caused Linda to know the difference. She knew it was no longer Billy standing in front of her. The Legman said, “If Billy or I were to bring Doug back to life, the gate to heaven might be closed to Doug. Even if the spell itself might not mark him there is a force that might intentionally mark him so that he might not get into heaven.”

Linda asked, “He might not get into heaven anyway. Isn’t it better to risk marking him than to let him die?”

“The protection of God and the angels is important to mortals and the mortals are important to God. Sometimes I do forget. I have forgotten. But if we stand any chance of defeating…” The Legman hesitated and changed what he had been about to say. As far as he knew Linda was only aware of the lesser human witches. He believed she knew nothing about the space alien witches. He thought for her own protection perhaps her not knowing about the SPAWS and H-SPAWS was probably best. The Legman said, “If we stand any chance of defeating the forces of evil then we must be mindful of God. We should not betray the importance of God and man to each other.”

“But I ask again, how do you know that Doug’s own mortal sins have not already closed the gates of heaven to Doug?”

The Legman considered that most beings, people, be they witches or mortals, in this digital computer like prison had no idea how the system worked. He felt Linda would be a good ally but she wasn’t ready to learn the truths of God and heaven any more than she was ready to face the space alien witches.

The Legman said, “Of course I don’t know whether the gates will be opened for him. All I can do is remove any minor marks from him that might prevent his entry and make sure that I do not accidentally cause a mark that I can’t remove.” The Legman took care not to mention the Iapetus Mark although that was the mark that most concerned him.

“So just on the chance that Doug might go to heaven you will let him die?”

“There is no true death. We are all on a journey and the journey takes us where the journey does. Of course I wish that his journey should continue with the people that he loves and who very much loves him. Their grief will sadden Billy and I will also be saddened; but we must all find happiness in our journey and where that journey takes us. Sadness is fleeting.”

Linda asked, “And what is your journey?”

“I want to defeat the forces of evil.”

“And what if that is not possible? Isn’t evil always with us? Are the lines between good and evil always so clear. I love Billy but he is not a saint and I doubt that you are either. God knows that I am not so good as to be worthy of God’s blessings and I will never pretend that I am.”

“It is the worst evil of which I speak and not the joyful frolicking of witch, man, or beast. To defeating the worst evil, all things are possible though never easy.”

Linda stared at the Legman and considered that he was also Billy. Linda thought about her friend Amberline Darko and how she had become Jackie. She wished she could talk to Amberline through Jackie the same as she was now talking to the Legman through Billy. Amberline Darko and Frank Bingo had brought the reincarnation of a god into this world. But which god? Linda had read that the lesser gods tended to be more in line with Lucifer than the greater God but then there the Legman was worried that Doug might be separated from God and denied the salvation of heaven.

The Legman said, “Even if you are figuring out who I am–I can see the wheels in your head turning– it is important for Billy to not know who I am and who he is for once Billy knows then we become one.”

“And why would that be a bad thing?”

“I am powerful right now. I can come out when I need to come out to protect Billy. But if Billy were to totally take over then I might not have the power to protect myself.”

“Why? Why would you think that is a danger?”

“I’ve lived lives where I never learned to use my power. There is a chance Billy can’t focus to learn what he needs to know to make the magic work.”

“What if Billy becomes powerful without having to summon forward his knowledge, your knowledge, of when he was you?”

“Well, that will change everything. If he learns to use the power then we will merge in that way and then he will know what I know. That is a different process from me becoming one with Billy and my forgetting everything.” The Legman didn’t tell Linda how the space alien witches play with people’s memories and where the true danger to Billy and himself might come if they drop their guard.

The Legman then vanished back into Billy and Billy stared at Linda. “What just happened?”

Linda said, “The Legman was here in your body. He is afraid that if we heal Doug then we might mark him in a way that will close the gates of heaven to Doug. It is a danger. The more powerful the witch is then the greater the danger is that a spell the witch uses on someone will mark them; the subject of the spell. I suspect there was quite a bit that the Legman was not telling me. I sense there is lurking a danger beyond what he me. He only spoke in terms of good and evil without telling me what that true danger is but I feel that there is a more concrete danger than just the abstract concepts of good verses evil.”

“So the Legman could heal Doug but he will not. I don’t understand. God is a loving God. I can’t believe that he would reject Doug just because the Legman healed Doug. I can’t believe that is a real danger.”

Linda realized the naivety of Billy and guessed the Legman might have thought the same of herself. Linda said, “I understand what you are saying but we would be foolish to ignore what the Legman told me.”

“So we should do nothing? It does not feel right that we should not do everything possible to help Doug.”

“I know. If a mortal cured him or a lesser witch such as me cured him, I am sure it would mean nothing. It would hardly mark him. I would not think it would close the gates of heaven to him. But I don’t have the knowledge or the power.”

Billy asked, “What if Kane Bishop saved him?”

“No. Kane is too powerful and evil.”

Billy nodded. “Yeah, I don’t even know why I mentioned Kane other than I am grasping at straws.”

Linda said, “As bad as I hate to do it I am going to have to contact the elders. I need their advice and maybe the name of someone who I can contact. I’ve got to get my nerve up to talk to the elders.”

  •                                                                    ****
  • Back at her home, with great trepidation, Linda Webster crawled into her attic. She walked around stacks of boxes and to a bookcase. She pulled a silver lever that was designed in the shape of a shoe and the red bookcase opened to a secret room in her attic. The room had been designed by her for her mother.

Linda’s mother had been a powerful witch and from that Linda had been brought into her mother’s Coven: The SteelOwl Coven. Linda, herself, wasn’t a shapeshifter. Her own powers were very limited and she could die the same way as any other mortal. Her mother had been killed in a sword fight with the witch vampire Alicia Silver. Alicia had cut off the head of Linda’s mother, Myrtle Claven, in a fight as Myrtle had tried to save her son from the corrupting influences of Alicia.

Linda stared at her mother’s room. The room was designed by Linda but the magical part of the room had to be done by her half-brother since it was to be a surprise for their mother. At that time she and her brother were more close than they are now. Linda’s brother was able to use his magic to make a room that in actual space was just 12 foot by 12 foot to be 120 foot by 120 foot. Linda remembered he was very proud that he had been able to make the spell work and that the spell stuck.

The magical room contained a white canopy bed, a white dresser and mirror, a red chest of drawers, a black couch, and her mother’s favorite magical rocking chair made of fossilized black wood from another world and a simply sewn, human made, red cushion for the seat and the back. Her mother would never explain to her which world. Linda touched the rocking chair with her finger to cause it to rock. She imagined her mother sitting in the chair as it rocked. Linda smiled as she considered how much she missed her mother.

This was the first time that Linda had managed to enter the room since her mother’s death. The Crystal Ball which was used to contact the elders was in the Center of a white table in the room just as her mother had left it the last time she had consulted with the elders through the Crystal Ball. Linda looked at her mother’s Library that lined shelves in the room. It was not nearly the library that Amberline Darko owned but Linda considered that if the Elders would allow it then the library might be of benefit to Billy. Amberline’s Library would better serve Billy but she did not know where that Library was hidden.

Linda felt butterflies in her stomach as she walked over to the table and sat down at the Crystal Ball. She whispered to herself, “I am so scared that I will accidentally anger them. If they turn me into some creature like a rabbit or a frog or a turtle I am going to be so pissed.”

The person addressing the Elders would never see or know who were the Elders—unless they had figured out an identity. The power of the Elders’ rulings was established by a concurrence within the Crystal Ball. The person addressing the elders might receive 15 different messages on how they might handle a situation if that is what the Crystal Ball computes. On the other hand the Elders might be forced into debate and reach a majority ruling on a matter and then the person would be left no choice but to do what they are told by the Crystal Ball to do. How the concurrence of whether the person would receive advice or an order depended on how the Elders were first addressed and how the Elders first responded to the address. Any order issued might go beyond the person addressing the Elders to all those who might be able to help execute the order.

The Master Crystal Ball was created by Amberline Darko’s ancestor, Merlyn Darko, and it spawned the Crytal Balls that were given to members accepted into the Coven. There was a question among some on how the Crystal Ball deciphered the concurrence but non went too far with their questioning as the Crystal Ball seemed to know when there were doubts.

So Linda stared at the Crystal Ball. For the first time in her life, Linda prepared to consult with the Elders. Her mother had consulted for her on occasion but she had never had the nerve to consult directly. She ran her hands over the Crystal Ball to turn it on.

Linda said, “I come for advice on two matters. I am afraid that a mortal by the name of Doug White might die and I want him to be saved.”

The Crystal Ball responded, “And the second matter.”

“As you might know Billy Bingo is a powerful witch, and perhaps even a lesser god. As Billy Bingo he does not know magic. However when his personality from a past life emerges, the Legman emerges, then that personality is a very powerful witch or god. I want to know if it is acceptable on whether I should allow Billy Bingo access to my mother’s books to begin to learn magic and if I might help him to the degree I am capable.”

The Crystal Ball answered. “We see that the Legman warned you that if he saves Doug then that might close the gates of heaven so that Doug might never be able to pass beyond those gates. We see that whether witch or god, the Legman is capable of good. We must warn you though that at times the Legman is very fickle and can be both brilliant and clumsy in thought. He has the power to remove any minor marks that a witch might put on Doug that would prevent Doug from entering heaven.”

A conflicting voice came from the Crystal Ball. “But the Legman is doubtful he can remove his own mark. His concern is real. And there is something I can’t see but a dark space; a hidden thought, a secret truth. Can any of you see beyond the dark space?”

There was no answer to the question.

A different voice came from the Crystal Ball. “I submit that the Legman might not be able to remove any marks that originate from the Legman curing Doug, but he would be able to remove any marks left by Billy.”

A different conflicting voice came from the Crystal Ball. “We do not want to test this theory for fear of failure. It is true that we might want to watch the Legman remove any marks left by Billy, but then what if he can’t. We are talking about not just the life of Doug White but the soul of Doug White. I say that we should have a lesser witch do what she can. A lesser witch would not cause the kind of marks of a more powerful witch and even one of us might be able to remove any marks that might be left.”

A voice came from the Crystal Ball. “But a lesser witch might not be able to save the life of Doug. If we are to try to save Doug should we not be sure that the witch is powerful enough so that there is no doubt that his life will be saved.”

A voice came from the Crystal Ball. “I doubt that Doug White stands much of a chance of going to heaven anyway.”

“Everything I see tells me that he is a good man.”

“He was having sex in an alleyway. Good man? I don’t think so.”

“God does not judge a person on their sex life. Look how pure the aura of Doug is. He is a good man.”

“We see a lot of good men walking in the Shadows of Death, living in their own imaginations, trapped in the purgatories they created for themselves. I say let Billy cast the spell to save Doug. All say Yea or Nay.”

“Yea say all so it is decided. Linda, allow Billy access to your mom’s library and teach Billy the spell to save Doug.”

Linda asked, “And what if the Legman prevents Billy from doing it?”

“Then what will be will be. We will grant no other witches permission to save Doug except Billy and perhaps you if you help him which is acceptable.”

* * *

Janet Silverton and her Aunt Tess Favor entered the waiting room area on the floor where Doug White struggled more and more to hold on to his life force. He was not ready to surrender his body to death. Still, he did not know how he could win his battle to live again. At times, moments, he dreamed in the world of imagination. At other times he astral projected to walk in the shadows of death and even beyond the shadows into the light to spy upon the living. Then there were times he could smell the hospital room and taste the aroma of bad hospital food and he could hear the voices in the room and even hear the footsteps on the floor tile. It was those times he most struggled to gasp for air on his own and to open his eyes and be back among the living so that all else seemed but a dream. He struggled. He ventured in thought that he was about to feel the thrill of victory and wake to again be with his family.

Tess walked over to talk with her friend Dr. Hassle while Janet walked over to talk to Benjamin White who was seated and working a crossword puzzle. Benjamin looked up to see Janet and put the puzzle down.

Janet asked, “How is Doug doing?”

“Not good. Dr. Hassle has told us the next few days may be critical.” Benjamin struggled to control his emotion.

“Can I see him?”

“Why? You do not know him.” Benjamin wasn’t sure why he wanted his words to sound so cold toward Janet.

“Doug came to the club because of me.”

“But it was not you who took him out into the alley.” Benjamin stood up.

Janet took Benjamin’s hand. “Are you angry with me because I disagreed with you on revenge?”

Benjamin turned what she said around. He asked, “Are you angry with me?”

Benjamin knew he had felt angry but he also knew that he needed to get over it. Benjamin considered that his anger did not even make much sense. “

Janet saw how tired Benjamin looked as she rubbed and patted his hand. For a moment Benjamin thought the hand gesture was about to turn into a hug. He pulled his hand away from Janet. He felt himself wanting to be comforted by her, but he didn’t like that feeling or at least that is what he told himself.

Janet said, “No. Sometimes I argue against shit that I, myself am feeling. I don’t know why. I sometimes sound like I am more confident or set on an issue than I really am.”

Benjamin took Janet’s hand and he led Janet to his brother’s hospital room. Together they entered the room and stepping apart they each stared at Doug. Janet saw at once how much Doug’s body had deteriorated. To Janet there seemed something odd about it. Janet walked over to Doug and touched his forehead. She took his hand. It felt lifeless but still he was alive. “He is fighting so hard to get back to you all.”

Billy Bingo walked into the hospital room. Billy walked over and touched Janet’s hand touching Doug’s hand. Billy said, “I think you and Doug will make a good couple. When he wakes up the two of you will fall deeply in love. Do you hear that Doug? Your neighbor Janet is here. She cares. She wants you to get better. Do you hear that Doug? You have a chance with Janet. You just have to find the strength to fight off what ever is stopping you from waking up.”

Doug thought, “Billy, if I could wake up then I sure as hell would.”

Billy wished that Doug might recover without his using magic. Billy wished there was a way that Doug could find the strength all on his own to find his way back to the land of the living. Linda had brought Billy her mother’s book on healing people. She had told him what the Elder’s had said but she had also told him what the Legman had said. What if he did something that prevented Doug from ever entering heaven? That was a horrible thought. Billy remembered his own church going days when he was small and he heard the bible stories written for children about heaven. There was a time that Billy thought even he might go to heaven some day but now Billy knew that his kind didn’t go to heaven. Still, that did not mean that he did not want Doug to be able to go to that peaceful, joyful, utopia in the sky which was how Billy thought of heaven.

Billy considered lesser spells that would give Doug a boost so that he could help himself. They were less likely to leave a mark that would prevent Doug from going to heaven. They would not bring Doug out of the coma but if the spell worked it would give Billy time to study up and work a more powerful spell with more care.

Janet removed her hand from Doug and Billy moved his hand to begin to massage Doug. He rubbed his earlobes.

Janet stared at Billy. “What on earth are you doing?”

Billy laughed. “I am trying to wake him up.”

Doug thought. “I would rather Janet be the one playing with my earlobes. Actually I would rather Janet be playing with something else of mine.”

Billy guessed he would need to try to work the spell in private.

Chapter 9 – Billy Bingo: When The Legman Comes

Chapters

Stan followed the EMS vehicle carrying Doug White to Hotville Lakes Memorial Hospital. Sitting outside the hospital he used his computer to hack into the Hospital Database to find which room Doug was in. The hospital records also showed that Doug was under security watch. “Well, it doesn’t look like I will be able to protect Samantha from whatever Doug tells the police when he recovers. The question is, will she roll over on me when she is arrested.” Stan laughed, “Of course she will.” Then he thought a second. “But she did put her ass on the line for me.” Doug called Samantha. “Honey, they have Doug White at the Hotville Lakes Memorial Hospital under security watch. There isn’t a lot I can do.”

Samantha said, “We have a nurse who owes us around $5,000. I have the her records that you should be able to use to hack into the hospital copy of her records. Can you use your hacking skills to get her old job back at the hospital?”

“I remember her and know who you are talking about. Changing the computer files so the system shows that she still works there should not be a problem, but now getting her to kill Doug, that might be a problem.”

“We’ve already had her arrested once. She knows what you can do. I don’t think getting her to kill Doug will take much effort if we offer her a bonus above writing off her debt to us.”

“Email to me her records so can find the right decrypt key and I will hack into their system and make her an employee of the Hospital. Then after you make the call to her I will visit her in person.”

Samantha said, “I will meet you in Hotville so we can better coordinate and maybe do some fucking.”

“Okay. I will send you my room information.”

* * *

Billy Bingo and Janet Silverton drove to Hotville in Janet’s car. Using police information, Detective Face arranged for them to have a room at the same Hotel where Stan Wakes had registered. Their room was side by side to Stan Wakes room and with a connecting door. When they reached the SunSide Hotel, Stan was not there. They entered his room and installed listening equipment and spy cams and quickly returned to their room.

Billy and Janet were eating hamburgers and watching Stan’s room on a computer monitor when Samantha Wilder entered the room. They were not very shocked to see her enter Stan’s room. She moaned and groaned and plopped down on the bed. She fumbled in her pocket for her phone as she spoke to herself, “I am so fucking tired.” She called Stan, “I am here in Hotville. I hated that damn drive. Are you ready to approach Majara Ray about killing Doug White?”

Stan Wakes said, “We really should not be having these kind of conversations on the phone. Someone could be listening.”

Samantha laughed. “Well, if the police are watching and listening, we are fucked. Anyway, I am using a disposable phone.”

Stan said, “Good. My check on this phone showed it clear so we should be okay. I am at the college and the last I checked Majara Ray was in her office with a student. The schedule shows she should be finished seeing students in around ten minutes. Wait around 11 minutes and then call her. I will be ready to approach her as soon as you make the call to talk to her.”

Janet and Billy could hear Stan as well as Samantha. Using his computer, Billy quickly pulled up the location of Majara Ray’s office at the college. Billy said, “I should be able to get there from here in five to ten minutes.” Billy rushed out the door with listening and recording equipment, hoping to get whatever Stan Wakes might say to Majara Ray recorded.

* * *

Billy Bingo reached the college and quickly entered a storage room next to Majara Ray’s office and attached equipment to the wall to be able to listen inside of the office.

Majara Ray was seated at her desk while she graded papers in her office at the Hotville College when she got what she considered a strange call from the Hotville Lakes Memorial Hospital. The computer RoboCall from the hospital was informing her that she would be on duty tomorrow from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Majara’s sister, Elvira Davis, came into her office just as she was hanging up the peculiar call. Majara said to her sister, “That was weird.”

Elvira picked up an apple from a basket of Apples on Majara’s desk. Elvira sat down and asked, “What?”

“Hotville Lakes Memorial Hospital seems to think that I still work for them. You know I stopped working there some four years ago when they refused to give me a raise.”

Elvira laughed. “Maybe they decided to give you that raise after all.” Then she added, “Probably some computer problem.”

Majara rolled her eyes. “Always something. I guess I better call them to let them know that I got the robocall and that they’ve got some kind of problem.” Majara was just about to make the call when her phone rang. Majara looked at the I.D. and saw the call was from Samantha Wilder. Samantha intentionally was using her regular phone that would show an I.D.. “Oh fucking hell. Now I am getting a call from that damned fucking bitch loan shark.” Majara answered the call, “Hello, dear. I’ve almost got your money.”

Samantha laughed. “Yeah. You’ve got that lie down pat. Now here is the deal. A friend of mine is about to enter your office and tell you exactly what you are going to need to do.” Samantha hung up.

Majara looked at her sister. “Fucking hell. That loan shark bitch is sending someone to my office.”

Elivira nodded. “So do you want to kick their ass or do you want me to have the pleasure?”

Stan Wakes entered the office. He looked at Majara and then looked at Elvira. “Which one of you owes Samantha Wilder $5,000?”

Elvira stood up. She looked Stan Wakes up and down. She reached out and shook his hand. The handshake was not so much a gesture of friendship as to get his fingerprint registered on her thimble ring. Her phone then sent a text to her with a report on the obtained fingerprint. She pulled her phone out of her pocket and glanced at the results and then put her phone back away. Elvira asked, “So Stan, how many people have you killed?”

Stan bragged, “Enough.”

Elvira pulled Stan into her arms. She kissed him on the lips. “Did they all deserve to die?” Her voice had a strange flirtatious tone.

Stan shrugged. “So you two know that Samantha wants you to kill Doug White who is a patient at the hospital.”

Elvira looked at the horror on her sister Majara’s face and then she eyed the irritating smirk on Stan’s smug face. Elvira said, “No, we didn’t know that.” Seductively Elvira ran her hands up Stan’s neck. Then before Stan knew what was happening Elvira put a grip on his cervix. She had every intention of breaking his neck but then he moved. He smiled. The seeming massage, was something he liked.

“Oh yeah, baby, that feels good.”

Elvira shrugged and continued to massage his neck. She gave her sister an I am not too sure what I am going to do look.

Majara said, “Well, I am not going to kill anyone. Samantha will get her money but I am not going to kill anyone.”

Stan said, “You don’t have any choice. I think Samantha has already proven to you that we can cause you to be arrested. We can destroy you.”

Elvira laughed. “Oh, a tough man. So tough.”

“Yeah, I am tough.”

At that point, with very little thought, Elvira snapped Stan’s neck and he fell dead to the floor. “Not really so tough.” Elvira pulled her phone from her pants pocket. She called headquarters. “I need a clean up at the college. Dead Perp is Stan Wakes who I just ran a trace on. The low life was threatening my sister.” Elvira closed her phone and smiled at her sister. “My license to kill sure does come in handy sometimes.”

Majara asked, “Won’t your boss, the higher ups, be angry since he wasn’t one of your assignments?”

“No. He had broken enough laws and put enough people in danger so that someone had put him on the government’s Pink List.”

“Pink List?”

“People that the government considers dangerous and consider of no great consequence if they are killed.”

Majara asked, “How long will it take for them to get here to dispose of the body?”

“They have a team on campus so we need to go on and get out of here.” About the same time Elvira spoke, fire alarms started going off and an evacuation notice came on the office intercom system.

Billy exited the storage closet at the same time Majara and Elivra exited Majara’s office. Elvira stared at Billy as he exited the storage closet and Billy stared at her. Elvira walked closer to Billy. She whispered, “Do you know what happened? Did you hear through the wall?”

Billy smiled. “Yeah, but not a problem.”

Elvira started to take Billy’s hand to get a finger print but he wouldn’t let her take his hand. He laughed at her. “I do not want a CIA handshake.” Billy wasn’t so much thinking about her trying to get his fingerprint as her trying to inject some kind of poison or virus into him. Billy realized that he was immortal but he didn’t like getting sick. From thinking about the consequences of a potential CIA handshake—as Billy termed Elvira’s gesture—Billy’s thoughts turned to Samantha Wilder. Samantha was still a threat and so Billy asked the very beautiful killer of Stan Wakes, “So what about Stan’s accomplice, Samantha Wilder?”

Elvira wasn’t sure what to say to this stranger who seemed to know too much already. With a coy expression, Elvira asked, “Do you know where she is?”

“SunSide Hotel in Stan Wakes’ room. Room 104.”

Billy intrigued Elvira though of late she had sworn off men. “So what is your interest in this?”

“Trying to keep Doug White and his family safe.”

Elvira asked, “Can I have a name?”

“Billy Bingo. And what is your name?”

“Elvira. Elvira Davis.”

As the three of them exited the doors among what was now a line of people Billy said, “Elvira, it was nice to meet you.” Billy and Elvira walked separate ways but Billy guessed they would meet again.

* * *

Samantha Wilder stared in the mirror. She rubbed her hands over her face. “What kind of person am I that I could have done that to Doug White and now I am plotting his murder?” Her audible voice quivered. “And I so easily suggested we force Majara Ray to kill Doug. It was like I was listening to some other person talk as I was saying my words.” Naked Samantha Wilder fell back on the bed. She rubbed her breasts. She fingered her pussy. “I don’t want to think about it,” she whispered. Still the image of her and Doug in the alley flashed in her mind. As Samantha ran her fingers in and out of her pussy she imagined that it was Doug’s cock in her pussy. Then the image of her pushing Doug against the police car flashed in her mind. “Oh fucking hell. How evil am I?” Tears streamed down her face. “Please let me stop thinking about what I did.”

Samantha Wilder stood from the bed. She retrieved her computer and with her computer she laid back down in bed. She was positioned where Janet could see what she was watching on her computer. Samantha Wilder clicked to a video on her computer. The movie was of Billy Bingo with Rachel Aghar in the laundry room, that Ralph Shath had put online. Samantha Wilder said, “This always helps me to forget.”

Janet was shocked when she saw Billy Bingo on Samantha Wilder’s computer screen.

Samantha moaned, “The way you kissed that girl, ooh I want to feel your lips touching my lips.”

Janet considered when Billy kissed her. She thought to herself, “He is a good kisser.”

Samantha rolled her eyes. “Watching this I can feel your lips on my breasts. I so want your lips on my breasts. You are such a pretty young man. God, I so much want to fuck you.” Samantha licked her lips. “Oh yeah, fuck yeah, now you are naked. God what a huge cock. Stan has such a little cock but your dick is so big. Hell yeah. Now go down on that girl. Fuck yeah.”

Billy walked into the Hotel room. He looked to see what Janet was watching Samantha doing. “Fuck hell. That is me. Shit. Ralph Shath put that on the internet and somehow she found it. Damn.”

Janet blushed bright red as she looked away from the computer monitor. “So what happened at the college. Did you get anything on Stan that we can use against him?”

“Stan is dead.”

“You killed him?”

“No. He fucked with, tried to strong arm, the wrong person. From the conversation I gather that Majara’s sister is a government agent with a license to kill and she used her license to get rid of Stan. Maybe I did wrong, but I told Majara’s sister where she can find Samantha Wilder.” Billy turned back to watching Samantha masturbate while watching him with Rachel. “Did I do wrong in telling her where she can find Samantha?”

“You know that I had rather they had been arrested and tried in a court law, but we have to protect Doug.”

Billy’s phone rang. He answered. “Billy Bingo here.”

“This is Elvira Davis. I can’t get clearance to go after Samantha Wilder. I did some research on you. I am sure that you, the man who took care of Kane Bishop, should be able to handle Samantha Wilder. I don’t really care whether you make her leave the country, have her arrested, or kill her; but just make sure she knows not to kill Doug White or try to hurt my sister again.”

“I understand. Thanks. I assume your discretion.”

“Absolutely. Just as I assume your discretion.” Elvira hung up the phone.

Billy looked at Janet. “It looks like how we handle Samantha is up to us. I guess I need to talk to her and try to get her to turn herself in and cop a plea.” Billy looked from Janet to the computer monitor and watched Samantha masturbate while watching him with Rachel. “I have a feeling that this is going to be very weird.”

Billy opened the door from inside the hotel room to go to the room where Samantha Wilder was masturbating. Samantha saw Billy standing in the kitchen area. Samantha moaned, “You can’t be real. How is it possible that you are here?”

“I know what you did to Doug White?”

Samantha moaned, “No” She sniffled, “No.” She continued to finger her pussy.

“I know you wanted Majara Ray to kill Doug White?”

Samantha cried, “If you came here to torture me, at least use handcuffs, a feather, and maybe a whip. Don’t torture me with words.”

“I didn’t come here to torture you. You must surrender to the police. Make a deal with the police and the District Attorney.”

“No. I want to have sex with you. I want to feel your cock inside me. I want to feel your lips touching my lips, touching my breasts, touching my pussy.”

“You can either go to the police willingly or I will take you by force.”

“If you make love to me, if you provide a sexual memory to keep me warm, hot, in prison, I will go willingly.”

“I can’t have sex with you. Well, I can, but seeing how what you did to Doug I would have to be sort of dumb to do what you want.”

“What? Do you think I try to kill every man that has sex with me. Stan is my lover. I have not tried to kill him.” In thought she considered she actually had tried to kill Stan in that she set Stan and Raovertso against one another. “Regardless, if you want me to turn myself into the police then you must have sex with me.”

Billy looked up at one of the cameras that he and Janet had hidden in the room. He then looked at Samantha. She was attractive enough but what she had done to Doug was vile, contemptible. Billy considered that Samantha’s word probably did not mean anything. Billy also considered that he had entered the room without much of a plan. How was he going to subdue Samantha and take her into the police? He couldn’t see threatening her with a gun as he had no intention of actually shooting her if she refused to go peacefully. Billy said, “I will have to think about it. I will have to think about having sex with you.” Billy turned and walked back though the door to the room where Janet was waiting. He closed the door.

Janet said, “What the hell was that? You will have to think about having sex with her.”

“I don’t know. I went in there totally unprepared. I have no idea what I was thinking.” Billy walked closer to Janet and whispered. “I need some kind of drug to knock her out where we can drive her to the police without causing a scene that might bite us in the ass. We aren’t police here. We are Private Dicks and operating without any authority.”

“I don’t have anything to sedate her. I will call my Aunt Tess Favor and see if she has anything that we can slip to her without her knowing it.”

Billy said, “Well I guess I will have sex with her while you go see if you can come up with something we can use to knock her out and take her to the police. The longer I am absent from the room the more likely she is going to start plotting her escape.”

* * *

Janet left to visit her Aunt Tess Favor, hoping that her aunt might provide her with something that could be used to knock Samantha out. Billy took a quick shower and then nude he entered the room where Samantha Wilder still lay in bed.

With a wicked smile Samantha Wilder stared at Billy. “I can hardly believe this is real. I am actually going to have sex with a man of my dreams; one of the men of my fantasies. God does answer prayers.”

Billy heard a strange inner whisper. “Don’t worry. The Legman is with you.” Billy’s cock dangled from side to side as he crossed the room toward the red haired beauty who beckoned him with the singular motion of her middle finger bending to-and-fro on one hand while her other hand worked her wet pussy. He considered the superior, dominating, “I am in the bird’s seat,” expression on her face. It was a look that reminded him of Kane Bishop. It was then that Billy wondered if he was dealing with a mortal woman or perhaps something more dangerous, more sinister. Billy heard another inner whisper, “She has a revolver in the night stand next to the bed but don’t worry. Continue on.”

Billy reached the bed and Samantha moved her fingers from her wet pussy and she touched Billy’s cock. Billy felt a shiver at the feel of her fingers. Then Samantha rolled over and turned on the bed doggy style. Samantha’s head moved seductively toward Billy’s crotch and then she rubbed her face against Billy’s cock and balls. She then ran her tongue up from Billy’s cock to Billy’s belly button and then up his stomach and chest and she kissed his nipple. She stared up at his lips. With enthusiasm she rared up on her knees and she embraced Billy into her arms. She planted her warm lips against Billy’s warm lips and she savored their kiss; their long kiss. From kissing Samantha on the lips Billy moved to kiss Samantha on the breasts and they fell back into the bed with Billy on top. Billy rubbed his cock against her as he kissed and licked her breasts and lips in rotation. As Billy’s large cock grew throbbing hard he teased her pussy with its head. Samantha screamed in ecstatic pleasure as Billy began to thrust his cock in and out. She wrapped her legs around Billy as they both became relaxed and euphoric in their rhythmic love making.

Samantha thought having sex with this man was better than she had even imagined with her vibrator in hand. After a time though she began to hear the click of the clock on the wall above the TV. She realized she had been having sex with Billy well over 30 minutes. With most men she would have already upped the tempo to beg for the final pleasure of an orgasm but with Billy she felt no rush to reach the finish line. There was an odd sensational pleasure with each thrust of Billy’s cock and with each kiss of his lips. There was a part of Samantha that wanted their love making to go on forever but she considered it was now time to start plotting her escape. She considered she would not go to jail for any man; no matter how great in the sack he might be.

Samantha whispered to Billy that she wanted to try one more thing before their sex ended. Billy considered he needed to see if Janet was back with something he could slip to Samantha to knock her out. Billy told Samantha that he had some body oil back in his room and that some mutual massaging might be nice. He figured he could later to tell her that he had forgot to pack the body oils. Samantha told Billy that she was thinking more in the line of the getting dressed and moving their love making outside.

Billy said, “What, do you have some car you want to shove me under?”

Samantha laughed and said, “What, do you have some body oils that will knock me out.”

Billy said, “We’ve had sex. Now you must turn yourself over to the police. That was our agreement.” Even as Billy said the words he was thinking of some alternative. He remembered Elvira had placed “leave the country” at the top of her list of how Billy might handle Samantha. What Samantha had done to Doug White was despicable and how she and her accomplice were going to force Majara to kill Doug White was nothing to admire. Evil! Still Billy considered that if she could be tamed, controlled, then she might make a valuable ally. Billy realized that if he ever faced a show down with Kane Bishop then he might need such allies as Samantha Wilder.

Samantha whined in a teasing manner, “Neither one of us have climaxed.”

“When we are finished are you planning on turning yourself over to the police?”

“You know the answer to that. Of course I am not going to turn myself over to the police.” Samantha rolled over pushing Billy beneath her. She began to ride him hard. She knew if she was going to have an orgasm with Billy it would have to happen soon. She did want to experience an orgasm with Billy.

Janet and her Aunt Tess Favor walked into the hotel room that Janet and Billy had rented. They both looked at the computer monitor to see Billy and Samantha having sex.

Tess laughed. “Oh my. I haven’t rode a man like that since my dear Hank died.” Tess pulled the chloroform and an handkerchief from her pocketbook. Tess said, “You put this over her nose and mouth and then in 30 seconds to a minute she should pass out.”

Nervously Janet took the chloroform and hanky from her aunt. “I can’t believe what I am about to do.” Janet walked to the door to the adjoining rooms. Cautiously, trying to stay as quiet as possible, she turned the door knob and opened the door. In tip toe fashion she entered the room and began easing toward the bed. Billy saw Janet and thought it was lucky that Samantha was now the one on top. He watched Janet ease closer to the bed. He hoped they would have Samantha Wilder in jail soon but then Samantha screamed and shivered and her eyes rolled in orgasm. Rolling off Billy she saw Janet coming toward them. She she quickly flipped to her side and reached into the drawer of the nightstand. She grabbed her revolver. Billy jumped on her back and took hold of her arm and hand that tightly clutched the revolver. As they wrestled, Billy was shocked at how strong Samantha Wilder was. Still he held back on how he handled Samantha because he didn’t want anyone to ever say he had roughed up a woman. Janet had no idea what to do as she watched Billy and Samantha thrust about on the bed, fighting for control of the weapon.

Tess Favor saw what was happening and she pulled her own revolver from her pocketbook. She quickly raced to the room and pointed her gun at the bed. Tess screamed, “Okay. Enough. Stop before someone gets hurt.”

When Samantha saw Tess pointing a gun at the bed, Samantha stopped fighting Billy and surrendered her revolver to Billy. Billy crawled off the bed. He told Samantha. “This does not have to turn out that badly for you. If you turn yourself over to the police I think a deal can be worked out that will not displease you; but if you fight like a trapped animal, well, just don’t.”

Billy looked at Janet and Tess. “Keep her covered. If she tries to escape, shoot to kill. I will be back in just a few minutes.” Billy handed Janet the revolver he had taken from Samantha. He threw Samantha a piece of clothing from the foot of her bed and told her to get dressed. He then went back to the room that he and Janet occupied. He got his phone and called Detective Face.

Billy said, “Where is the best place for us to meet so that I can hand Samantha Wilder over to you for an official arrest.”

Detective Face asked, “What about Stan Wakes?”

“He made a very dangerous enemy; a government agent with a license to kill. Stan is dead.”

“That is good but it might make it more difficult to prosecute Samantha. That is unless Doug wakes up and can testify against her.”

“I am trying to get Samantha to do a deal so the White family will not have to be put through a trial and questions about what Doug was doing in the alley with Samantha.”

“What kind of deal?”

“I have no idea what can worked out.”

“I would suggest a token 90 days and probation. My guess is that the prosecution would be thrilled with that, that is if you can get the White family to agree that is punishment enough.”

“Before I go back to talk to her I will call Bobby.”

“Okay, I will talk to the lead detective and the prosecutor. Bye.”

“Bye.” Billy then called Bobby White. “How is Doug doing?”

Bobby said, “The doctors are sounding hopeful.”

“That is good. If am upsetting you, please let me know. I will not give you the details but Stan Wakes has been eliminated. He is no longer a threat to Doug. I have Samantha Wilder here but prosecution will not be easy. If I am making you angry here, let me know.”

“Okay. Talk to me.”

“If it is okay with your family I am going to suggest that Samantha Wilder make a deal with the prosecution in exchange for a 90 day sentence and probation. I will keep an eye on her and if she appears to be a threat to your family then I will deal with her. I know that is not much of a punishment given what she did but if it is kept out of the courts then the media will leave your family alone and will not ask questions about what Doug was doing and so on. What do you think?”

Bobby asked, “What if my family wants to seek the maximum penalty possible.”

“Without bringing Stan Wakes into it, it is going to be difficult to prove what happened was not an accident and if the court were to find it was an accident she could walk free.”

“You said Stan Wakes has been eliminated. What does that mean exactly?”

“He has been killed but in a way that it will never be made public. Even if he were still alive it would be hard to prove what Stan and she did.”

“I understand. I am not angry with what you are saying. I will talk to my family right now. They are all here and listening to this conversation the best they can. I will call you right back.”

Billy got dressed while he waited for Bobby White to call him back. He then peeped in on Tess, Janet, and Samantha. The three of them look restless and very unhappy. With his head stuck in the room Billy said, “One more call and we will start getting this resolved.” Billy’s phone started to ring and he stepped back into his room.

Bobby White said, “If you think you can handle Samantha to make sure there will no future problem when she gets out, my family is agreed. Mom said the first step in healing is forgiveness and so I guess we can try that shit.”

“Okay. I will make the call and get things set in motion to get her turned over to the police.” Billy hung up with Bobby and then called Detective Face. “The White family has agreed to what we were talking about.”

“So is the prosecutor. He was going to be a hard ass in part because he doesn’t know what you told me about Stan Wakes. Regardless, he backed down and it has all been agreed. That is if you can bring Samantha White in without her being handcuffed. She has to prove she can be trusted or the deal is off.”

“Okay. You will be at the police station?”

“Yes.”

“I will get her there just as soon as I can get her there.”

“Has Samantha Wilder been told that Stan Wakes is dead?”

“No but Bobby and some other people have been told. Still, basically, it needs to be kept a secret.”

“Understood.”

Chapter 8 – Billy Bingo: When The Legman Comes

Chapters

As soon as Bobby White heard that his brother Doug had been hit by the police car and was in Grady on life support he rushed back from Hotville to Metropolitan Atlanta. His Uncle, Mayor Keith White, flew him to PDK Airport in his private airplane. His cousin Mikey White flew with them. They were all set to pitch a fit that it was a police car that had run Doug down. They were hurt, they were angry, and they were looking for someone to blame. The police officer behind the wheel of the car seemed the most convenient person to blame. His name was now known: Officer Don Johnson.

Janet Silverton quickly got a call from her superiors. It was now known she had been stripping at the 5th Side Strip Club. She was put on a leave of duty and with considerable pressure being put on her to resign and to just go away. Janet was not sure what she was going to do. She could either start stripping full time, try to get a job at another police department, totally change occupations, or as she cried on the phone to her Aunt Tess Favor, “I feel like I could just crawl into a hole and die.’ Her Aunt Tess begged her to come move in with her down in Hotville and to help her do research for her books. She told her Aunt that she would think about it. One thing she knew for certain, without a steady income she was going to have to break her lease and give up her Apartment. “It is just as well I never finished unpacking.”

Bobby White knocked on Billy Bingo’s door. Billy had just gotten home from the airport from where he had been to New York and was just about to crawl into bed for a nap. From sitting on the bed, Billy stumbled to answer the door. Opening the door, he saw Bobby White standing there.

“Billy, I want you to use your Detective skills to help bring Officer Don Johnson down. Those son of a bitches police are covering up for the bastard while my brother is hanging on by a thread. I want that bastard to pay for running down, running over my brother. No car chase was worth the life of my brother.”

Billy started to invite Bobby in but then he thought about his parents and decided it was best if he talked to Bobby in private. Billy stepped outside and asked Bobby to walk around with him.

Bobby gave Billy a go drop dead look but then he thought he did need to walk. He considered that he needed to cool off from all the anger that had been building inside of him. As they started walking Bobby asked, “Do you think I am wrong to be so angry at the police officer?”

“I don’t know. I don’t fully know the circumstances of what happened. But being angry and upset is fully understandable. That said, part of my job is to stay more calm.”

Bobby said, “Benjamin has also told me to calm down and not blame the police officer. I don’t understand Benjamin.”

Billy knew something of what had happened from Bobby’s calls to Steve. Steve had talked to Billy about what Bobby had told him. Billy said, “Benjamin was with Doug when it happened, right?”

“Yeah. It was just a coincidence though. They weren’t there at the strip club together. When I was asking Benjamin questions, that was pretty much all that I could get out of him. He won’t tell me how he just happened to be at the strip club or near the alley where Doug was taking a piss when he was run over.”

Billy said, “I will do some checking. He may tell me some things that he does not want the family to know.”

Bobby nodded. “It may be as simple that he was spying on Doug, following him around, and feels guilty about it. I don’t know what Doug was doing taking a piss in the alley.”

“Doug isn’t a priest. He may come across as a nerdy brain with no thought of sex, but he has male hormones just like every other red blooded male.”

“Yeah, I know but so what if Doug was trying to get himself some pussy around the Strip Club. That doesn’t mean he deserves to die.”

“Of course not but you can’t blame Benjamin for not wanting to tell your parents they were in Atlanta trying to get themselves laid.”

“No, but Benjamin should know he can tell me anything.”

“Bullshit. You don’t tell Benjamin everything. God knows I don’t tell Bess everything. That does not mean that we do not love them. Anyway, where is Benjamin? I will go talk to him.”

“I finally was able to get him to come home and take a shower and eat something. It was difficult to get him to leave the foot of Doug’s bed.”

* * *

When Billy entered the White Apartment with Bobby, they saw Benjamin seated with Janet Silverton at the table. They were both sniffling back tears as they ate a bowl of cereal. Both Billy and Bobby were somewhat shocked to see Janet sitting with Benjamin.

Bobby said, “I am going to take a shower. Benjamin, talk to Billy as a Detective. Benjamin, Billy will not tell me anything you do not want him to tell me.” Bobby screamed as he walked down the hallway. “Talk to him!”

Billy walked to the table and sat down. “Your brother is angry at the Officer Don Johnson for running over your brother. He wants me to get evidence to hurt the police.”

Benjamin said, “I keep telling everyone that the police officer is not to blame. They need to drop that bullshit.”

Billy said, “So how did the accident happen? What caused Officer Don Johnson to run over Doug? Was it Doug’s fault?”

“No! No! Shit. Fuck. Of course it was not Doug’s fault. Janet keeps telling me to just let the law take care of it. She thinks if Bobby finds out what happened that he will get himself killed.”

Billy stared at Janet. “What? Are you working with the law to cover this thing up?”

Janet rolled her eyes. “Work for the police? Well, once upon a fucking time, maybe. I have been suspended from my job because they found out that I had been stripping at the 5th Side Strip Club. I am honestly concerned for the family.”

Billy nodded. “Why are you concerned? Who do you think will kill Bobby if he finds out what happened to his brother? The law?”

Janet raised her voice. “Do you have something against the police?”

“No. All I know at this point is that the Officer, Don Johnson, ran over Doug. That is all I know. And I am being told that if Bobby discovers what happened to his brother he will get himself killed. Stop me from speculating by telling me what happened. Tell me or I will use my police contacts to find out what the two of you are not telling me.”

Janet said, “We are afraid that Bobby will get himself hurt by going after the gang leader that we believe is responsible for what happened to Doug. It is not that we are just being obstinate about this.”

“A gang?” Then Billy shook his head. “I see. I will not tell Bobby what you do not want told. I will also work to protect your family from the gang if that is needed.”

Benjamin stared at Billy. “Protect us? Do you think that we might need protecting?”

“I don’t know. I don’t know the details but if the gang thinks your family might know too much about whatever then yeah, your family may need to be protected.”

Benjamin said, “The gang, the RedOaks is run by Stan Wakes. I was at the Orakay Liquor Store, trying to get someone to buy me some booze when I encountered a gunman going into the store. Janet believes Stan Wakes is the gunman who went into the Orakay Liquor Store and killed rival gang member Raovertso. When I saw something was going down there I took off running but I did call the law.” Benjamin ran his hands through his hair. “It was my call that began the car chase. Janet believes Stan Wakes called his girlfriend Samantha Wilder to get her to create a diversion to end the police chase. Janet believes that diversion is what caused Samantha Wilder to lure Doug into the alley to have sex. Janet believes Samantha intentionally pushed Doug in front of the police car. She then vanished through the doorway into the abandoned building and Stan Wakes made his escape. Mind you, from what Janet has said, all we know for certain is that Samantha Wilder is the girlfriend of Stan Wakes and she was in the alley with Doug. We don’t know for certain he is the one who killed Raovertso or is the one who was driving the van that the police were chasing. We are pretty sure that Samantha Wilder pushed Doug in front of the police car to break off the chase.”

Billy said, “I see.” Billy eyed Janet with a degree of respect. “It looks the two of you pretty much have it figured out.”

Benjamin said, “If there is anyway you can get my family to back off from hurting the Officer who struck Doug, please do. He is not to blame. At the same time I do not want you to tell them about Stan Wakes and Samantha Wilder. Janet has convinced me that telling them would be a mistake.”

Billy cocked his head and wrinkled his eyes as he looked at Janet, now with a good bit less respect. Billy asked, “Is it okay if I tell Bobby that Doug was pushed in front of the police car to explain that there is more to the story and Officer Don Johnson was not simply being careless.”

Janet said, “No. Bobby will want answers and more details and then if he finds out too much there is no telling how he will react. It is best if the police are left to handle this.”

Billy frowned. He stood up. He knew that if he were Bobby he would want revenge. “You know, maybe wanting revenge is not such a bad thing. Wanting to protect the people you love from getting hurt is not a bad thing.”

Benjamin said, “Of course I want those two to pay for what they did to my brother. I just do not want Bobby to get hurt.”

“So you are planning the revenge, making them pay, all by yourself.”

“Maybe.”

Janet screamed, “No. Benjamin, don’t think like that. Let the law do their job.”

Benjamin stood up. “Law! The same law that is punishing you for being a stripper. I don’t blame Officer Don Johnson but come on, he doesn’t inspire confidence in the law.” Without thinking, Benjamin raised his voice, “I want that crazy whore Samantha Wilder and that drug pushing bastard Stan Wakes to pay for what they did to my brother. I want those evil monsters dead and in hell.” Benjamin broke down crying and fell into Billy’s arms. “I want them dead.”

Hearing his brother screaming and crying, wearing just a towel Bobby ran from the bathroom. He stared at his brother Benjamin in Billy’s arms. Benjamin turned and looked at Bobby, “Some gang called the RedOaks did this to Doug. We’ve got to get revenge. We’ve got to make those bastards pay for having Doug pushed in front of the police car. I don’t want you hurt but we’ve got to do this. We’ve got to make them pay.”

Janet jumped up and stared bullets at Billy. “You son of a bitch. I had convinced Benjamin that revenge is not the answer and here you come. You are going to get these brothers killed.”

Billy said, “You can either work with us or against us. The choice is your choice.”

“I think I hate you.” Janet walked over and reached out to slap Billy. Billy caught her hand. “With us or against us!”

Janet yanked her hand back away from Billy. Again she struck out to slap Billy. This time he let her but then he pulled her into his arms and he kissed her. It was a long kiss. It was thoughtful kiss. If the Legman had made a visible appearance he might even have called it a magical kiss. As their lips separated, a bit of static electricity between them popped, Janet whispered, “With you.”

“Good. You are hired. That is if you want a job with the Naked Truth Agency.”

It was a shock to Bobby and Benjamin when their mom called and told them that her husband’s brother, Mayor Keith White, was moving Doug to the Hotville Lakes Memorial Hospital. Bobby was somewhat okay with that since he now lived in Hotville but Benjamin was furious.

Benjamin screamed, “We don’t live in Hotville. This is ridiculous. Mom and dad can’t move to Hotville. They have jobs. Doug needs to stay near mom.”

Bobby didn’t want to argue. “It might be easier for mom and dad. They can’t spend all of their time with Doug and they will be able to come down on the weekends. Please do not make a scene. This is hard enough on mom as it is.”

Benjamn calmed down. “It is not my decision. I was just voicing my disgust. I am not going to make a scene with anyone else.”

“Understood and you can scream your frustration at me anytime that you want.”

So, in a coma, Doug was moved to the Hotville Lakes Memorial Hospital. His parents and Bobby rode with Doug in the EMS vehicle as the journey was made. Benjamin stayed with Billy who set up a temporary office in Janet’s Apartment. Billy informed Detective Joseph Face, who was working a month’s notice before leaving the police department, what he was working on. Detective Face gave Billy the information on the last known area that the van— the van the police had been chasing when Doug was hit by the police car—was seen. Janet and Benjamin told the police that they believed Samantha Wilder had pushed Doug into the police car and since she was the girlfriend of Stan Wakes it was likely he was the one driving the van. The police agreed with Janet and Benjamin but they didn’t have proof.

Billy had purchased some computers and Benjamin was setting them up in Janet’s apartment. While Benjamin was doing that, together Janet and Billy drove around the neighborhood where Doug was run over and the van was last seen. They were hoping against odds that unlike the police they would be able to discover where the van had been ditched and was now hidden. They were having no better luck than the police in searching for the van when suddenly Billy noticed something. He told Janet to park the car in an area they had already driven by three times. There was an impound lot at the location. Billy got out of the car and walked on the sidewalk outside the chain linked fence. Holding onto the fence, Billy looked inside the lot at the different vehicles that were lined up. As Janet ran to catch up with him, Billy then walked to where there was a padlocked gate. Billy pointed back to where there were three vans parked.

Janet said,”All three of them are of the same make and model as in the police report.”

Billy asked, “Do you know who owns this impound lot? Do they have any connection to the RedOak gang or Stan Wakes?”

“I don’t know.”

Billy looked around for a sign to tell him the name of the lot. He finally located a small, rusty sign that read, “Henry Oak Wrecker Service.” Billy called Detective Face. “Can you give me any information on the Henry Oak Wrecker Service?”

Detective Face replied, “One moment. Let me see what I can pull up.”

“Okay.”

“It is now owned by some corporation registered down in Cayman Islands. The last registration shows Triple Oak Wise N Red Inc.. Okay, that Corporation is owned by Yellow and Green Bonnet Inc.. I can’t figure who controls that. Why do you need the information?”

“There are three vans in the impound lot that match the description of the van the police were chasing when Doug White was hit.”

“Is there anyone around the lot where you can ask questions and find out about the vans?”

“Not that I see. I don’t think there are any offices about. It looks like a lot where they park cars they have hauled in after the city has booted them.”

“So they work with the city.”

“That is what is looks like to me. Janet, what do you think?”

Janet said, “Yeah, I recognize a few of the cars that I called in that had been parked too long or abandoned.”

Detective Face said, “So I shouldn’t need a warrant. I just need the tag and serial numbers to write up a report to order the vans moved to a different impound lot where I know the owner. Can you get me the tag and serial numbers?”

Billy climbed over the fence. Using his cell phone Billy quickly took pictures of the information on all three vans and climbed back over the fence. Billy and Janet walked back to her car. Billy sent the pictures he had taken of the vans information to Detective Face. All three vans had been reported stolen. One of the vans had the same tag number as the van the police had been chasing but on the impound sheet the tag number had been entered wrong. There was some evidence that the van had been used to haul marijuana but nothing to connect the van to anyone. Billy was disappointed that the van did not provide any evidence against Stan Wakes.

Back at the Apartment, after getting details on the Van, Billy, Janet, and Benjamin sat back disappointed. They had hoped finding the van would provide a lead but it didn’t. Billy said, “So now I’ve got to locate Stan Wakes and we have to start following him and hope that he slips up.”

Detective Face came in and was much more cheerful than Billy. “Good job in finding that van. The city is now looking at pulling all business from the Yellow and Green Bonnet Company. They also found 3 illegal aliens working for the company.”

Billy said, “So they will move the operation to some other company they own. I thought for sure we would be able to link the van to Stan Wakes.”

Detective Face said, “I’ve decided that I will continue my job. It has been agreed that with me on the inside and you on the outside then we will make a good team. You impressed some people today.” Detective Face winked at Janet. “No doubt Billy knows how to hire talent.” Detective Face looked at Benjamin. “I bought some groceries since we are going to working out of Janet’s Apartment for now. Would you mind bringing the groceries in.”

Benjamin nodded and quickly got up to start bringing the bags inside. Detective Face turned to Billy. “Stan Wakes was spotted following the EMS vehicle. He followed them all the way to the hospital. Mayor Keith White has been notified and has a detail protecting Doug.”

Benjamin quickly finished bringing the groceries in and helped Janet start putting them away. Benjamin had stood at the door long enough to hear what Detective Face had said to Billy and Janet. Benjamin said, “So if they catch Stan trying to kill my brother, that should help put him away but what about that Samantha Wilder?”

Detective Face said, “I think the District Attorney is considering bringing a case against her for attempted to murder based on your and Janet’s testimony. If Stan Wakes is caught that should seal the case.”

It was a dark, dark, night in Atlanta. The sky was cloudy and the air had a slight chill. Janet Silverton thought, “What am I doing?” That is what she considered as she walked down the sidewalk from where she had parked, but she knew what she was doing. To her it was fun to dance and strip off her clothes in front of men and maybe a few women. Also she earned money when she could arrange to entertain at the club. Course, she knew if the police department where she worked were to find out, she could lose her main job. Regardless, that did not much matter to her. Tired, lonely, she wanted someone to hold her in their arms. She wanted human touch.

Janet stepped off the sidewalk and turned down an alleyway. She rubbed her breasts through her white, see through T-shirt. She rubbed her crotch through her tight blue jeans. She walked along the alleyway between two abandoned buildings and then exited from the darkness into the bright lights of the parking lot outside of the 5th Side Strip Club. She walked past the parked cars and up to a side entrance. A security guard opened the door and let her in. She walked into the area where several women were putting on their fancy, colorful, sexy costumes. She walked to a rack to select something for her dance.

A woman, Marge Ross, looked at Janet Silverton. “Why are you doing this? You don’t need the money.”

“Maybe tonight I will meet my Prince Charming.”

“Honey, if you want to meet a nice man, try church.”

Janet laughed as she removed her white T-Shirt and shook her breasts. Marge put some oil in her hands and tenderly, sensually, rubbed the oil on Janet’s breasts to give them a shiny, glistening, shimmer. Janet moaned at the warm feel of Marge’s hands touching her breasts. Marge was desirable enough, as kind as she was sexy, but Janet wanted the feel of a man’s cock pounding her pussy.

Janet stripped the rest of her clothes off. She slid black fishnet stockings on her beautiful, smooth, legs. She then put a gold mini skirt on and a white lace top. She adorned her feet in gold high heel shoes. Marge helped put her blonde hair into a bun that would look all so sexy when she loosened the bun and shook her head for her hair to freely fly to the drumming sound of music. It would be a good effect.

Marge said, “You are so beautiful. I don’t understand why you haven’t met your Prince Charming.”

Janet shrugged and smiled. “Tonight may be the night.”

Doug White stood outside the strip club. He had never been into a club to see women dance and take their clothes off for money. He had that innocent look which pretty much made that secret not really so much of a secret. Still he had always pretended to be a more worldly man when talking to his friends and he had always thought that they believed his tales of sordid sex and high risk adventure.

Doug did not much socialize at the Minion Plex with his brother Bobby’s friends. There was the age difference by a few years. Also Doug’s friends were mainly the so called “nerd” group from his school years.

Doug had been thinking about this night since he first heard Janet on the phone discussing dancing here. Doug had imagined that somehow he would cause Janet to notice him and perhaps give him a lap dance. Doug hoped from that he could develop a relationship with the Policewoman/Stripper who had moved into the Apartment Complex. Doug did not just want sex from his new neighbor, he wanted a relationship. That was his fantasy.

This evening Doug was dressed in gray slacks and a navy blue jacket. His expensive shirt was lime green and his tie was pink. His slightly long hair was a sandy brown color and his eyes were green. His face was somewhat roundish and when he smiled he had dimples that girls liked to pinch. Still, around even those girls he had always been very shy.

Nervously Doug paid the door fee and entered the club. His face felt hot, flush, when he saw the waitresses walking around topless. As he looked around he considered that he had never imagined so many breasts coming in so many shapes and sizes. A topless waitress showed him to his table and took his order for a night of drinks and over priced sandwiches. Pale and shaking Doug sat down. Unexpectedly a strange woman sat down at the table with Doug. She introduced herself as Samantha Wilder. He halfway suspected she had made her name up.

Samantha’s hair was red and her lips were thick with blue lip stick. Doug couldn’t decide the color of her eyes. Blue or green. The color seemed to change with the turn of her head. She had a nice enough face, pretty, but Doug’s stare soon shifted from her face so as to check out her large breasts and nice cleavage. For a second he imagined his cock rubbing between her breasts. He’d always liked titty fucking in porn movies, and also in his imagination when jerking off.

Samantha asked, “How big is your dick?”

“Around 8 inches.” When giving his height he also tended to exaggerate up by an inch or so. It wasn’t like people walked around with a tape measure. Well, usually. There was that one dude at the gym. That was weird. And seriously, does the government census bureau really do those kind of surveys.

Samantha smiled. “The biggest dick I’ve ever had was 12 inches. Have you ever seen a 12 inch cock.”

“No.” The waitress brought his sandwiches and a couple of drinks. He quickly swallowed a gulp from one of the glasses and then almost choked it up.

“Yeah. That is how I was with the 12 inch cock.”

The lights dimmed as music began to play. Janet Silverton walked out on the stage with all eyes in the place gawking in awe, watching her. Two of those eyes mesmerized by her sexy moves were the eyes of the be smitten Doug White. As she danced about the stage Doug watched each move, gyration, and each sexual like expression contorting from her every inch of her body. Doug felt not just desire but a longing some might call love as he watched Janet dance. She was as sexually desirable on the stage as he had imagined in fantasy but even on the stage stripping her clothes off to the beat of music there was also a tenderness, an innocence about her.

Samantha watched Doug watching Janet. “Does she get your 8 inch cock all hard and wet?”

Doug did not answer. He was somewhat excited but wasn’t fully erect. Samantha moved closer to Doug. She slipped her hand beneath the table and between his legs. She rubbed his crotch. Doug was not sure how to react to Samantha as his attention was more drawn to Janet Silverton who was now pole dancing. “So how would I go about getting a lap dance from that beauty on that platform?”

“Well that is a fine how do you do? Don’t you want a lap dance from me? Maybe more.”

* * *

There was a fine mist of rain falling against the windshield of Stan Wakes beaten up junk of a car. It was just enough rain to dirty the windshield but not enough to turn on the wipers and the windows were starting to fog. Stan Wakes felt unnerved but he knew he needed to man up, bounce his big balls from where they had been hiding too long, and do this. What was left of his gang was no longer respected and he wanted to restore the gang’s beleaguered reputation from that of ridicule to fear.

Finding it hard to see out the windshield, Stan pulled into the Orakay Liquor Store parking lot. He almost bumped into the young dude, Benjamin White, walking the well lit parking lot and hoping to find someone to buy him a bottle of liquor. The punkish dude, Benjamin, in tight blue jeans, screamed, “Hey, what’s the fucking idea.”

Benjamin was hardly anything like his older brother Doug who this moment was sitting in the 5th Street Strip Club and taking great pleasure in the realization that not all breasts are alike. Benjamin was more like his oldest brother Bobby though much more of a loner than Bobby.

Stan Wakes slowly drove, straddling the white line between two parking spots, to finesse his car in place. Watching, Ben comically considered that it was as though the driver was worried about someone dinging the piece of junk he was driving.

Stan took a red and black checkered scarf that tied his blonde wig into a ponytail and used it cover his face like he was a wild west bandit. Stan felt the Colt M1911 military issue in the pocket of his red windbreaker as he opened the car door to get out.

The 20 year old kid, Benjamin White, who Stan had almost run over, walked up to him. He was about to ask the stranger to buy a bottle of liquor for his consumption when he saw the scarf covering his face. Benjamin noticed the stranger’s hand in the pocket touching a gun, a colt. For a moment Benjamin focused on the small, fake, snake tattoo on the man’s hand. From ogling the man’s snake tattoo Benjamin looked up into the unknown man’s cold blue eyes. “Fuck!” Realizing there was about to be a robbery or worse, Benjamin started to take off running. He started, but he was not quick enough.

Stan grabbed Benjamin by his shirt collar and spun him around. Benjamin didn’t notice that the dangerous stranger had moved his hand from his gun to the phone in his pocket. He didn’t realize when the unknown man took his picture. When Stan released his grip on Benjamin, Benjamin thought he had broken free rather than being freed. Benjamin fled just as quickly as his two feet would carry him as Stan quietly moaned in distress. “I will deal with you later. Disguise or no disguise, you saw too much.”

Stan looked up toward the liquor store and saw the camera that panned the brightly lit parking lot. “Video.” Stan was glad that “Sammy” had stolen a couple of car tags for his out of state junk that officially had long ago been crushed. Still, seeing the camera disturbed Stan. “Too many damn fucking cameras in this world,” Stan said as he eased his own phone camera back into his pocket.

Stan felt nervous as he walked to enter the Orakay Liquor Store. Unless the victim was preoccupied and not looking at the video from the camera, he’d probably seen Stan. Of course whoever was inside this unsavory store would not be calling the law. The last thing they would want to do is bring the heat down on their operation.

Stan opened the dirty glass door. A cow bell attached to the door made a high pitched ringing sound. Stan looked toward the check out counter area on the far wall. A door behind the counter was open. No one was in sight. “Anyone home,” Stan said with a nervous edge in his voice.

Stan turned and flipped a sign on the door to closed. Keeping both eyes open for surprises he knelt down and unplugged the electric, neon, open sign. “Anyone home,” Stan repeated.

Stan eased up and down the aisles. He looked at the bottles of alcoholic beverages that lined the shelves. The store seemed as well stocked as most any liquor store he had ever entered. There were the berry liquors: Chambord, Lakka, Polar and lots more. Then there were the Coffee Liquors.

“What the fuck.” Stan shook his head at the Coffee Liquors. “I know you are in here, somewhere. Come on out. You don’t have to be afraid.” Stan continued up and down the aisles. He stepped around a mop bucket. Then he exited the aisles and came back to the check out area. He walked behind the counter. Cautiously, he walked into the room behind the counter. The room was dark. He fumbled for the switch to turn the light on. He finally located the light switch. “And let there be light,” Stan said with a god complex. He flipped the switch and the room brightened up.

Stan looked around the small room. Each of the three other walls lining the dingy room had a door. “I sure as hell don’t like this. I should have obtained a diagram of the building.”

Stan walked to the door that he figured exited to an alley behind the building. He opened the unlocked door and sure enough there was a narrow back street. There was a large van parked, blocking the one lane road right at the door. Stan looked around the van and then looked up and down the lane. “Maybe he was smart enough to run. Maybe he escaped down the asphalt alley.”

Benjamin White, who had wanted to get drunk for the first time, stopped running. He settled his young, sexy, body against a wall. “I am such a fucking coward.” He pulled his cellphone from his pocket. He dialed 911.

“Yeah, this is an emergency. I was at the Orakay Liquor Store over on Orakay and 5th. I saw a man with a mask and gun going into the liquor store.” Benjamin closed his cellphone. He figured that was enough information. He had done his duty.

Benjamin realized he was standing outside of the 5th Side Strip Club. He wondered if he tried to enter the place, if they would check his id.

* * *

Stan turned from the alleyway to go back into the liquor store. He closed the door behind himself. He walked to a different door in the small room. The door was locked but it wasn’t much of a door jam and with very little effort Stan had the door opened. Inside the room, with bundles of marijuana, stood the clerk with the owner and another man. The clerk looked familiar but then doesn’t everyone.

Stan said, “You are operating in this neighborhood without permission.”

With a peculiar smirk the owner asked, “You work for the Raovertso Gang?”

“No.”

“So how many damn fucking gangs think they are going to collect from me?” The owner gave the clerk a rather odd look.

“Are you saying that you gave money to the Raovertso and they didn’t give a percent to the RedOaks?”

Before Stan even knew what the hell had happened the clerk had a revolver pointed at his temple.

The clerk Raovertso told him to drop his weapon. “You pay Raovertso. Raovertso doesn’t pay you.”

“So you want a gang war?”

“Your gang only has five people left who aren’t dead and aren’t in jail. I respect your last gasp effort to resurrect yourself, but it isn’t going to happen.”

Stan stared at the clerk. It was only then he realized that he was talking to Raovertso himself. “Why are you clerking at this store?”

“When someone pays me for protection, by God, they get protected. My gang is not like that sorry ass operation that you ran into the ground.”

“You were expecting me? I mean, you were expecting me even before I pulled into the parking lot? Sammy sold me out.”

Raovertso said, “Sammy is tired of you. All of your big plans and never able to execute. Your grand notions got her brother killed.”

Stan laughed. “Her brother got her brother killed.” He very quickly turned the tables and had Raovertso down on the floor and the gun in Raoverto’s hand pointed at his own temple. The shot was quick. The death was sudden. Watching the blood ooze Stan said, “Dumb ass.”

Stan looked at the owner. “You start loading the truck to get this pot moved.”

“Yes sir.” He wasted no time in getting a cart to load the pot to push around to the truck.

Stan looked at the other man who stood still. “So who the hell are you?”

“It is my pot or I guess I should say that it was my pot.”

“You get paid?”

“He was short a thousand but that is no never mind now. If I get out of here alive, I will be happy.”

“You a grower or a handler?”

“Both.”

“Are you honest with your people?”

“I try to be but then this isn’t the first time that I have been cheated. They probably will not trust me after this. I don’t blame them.”

Stan counted out ten one hundred dollar bills to the man. “My name is Stan Wakes. You can usually get word to me from the RedOak Bar. Just give the bartender a $100 bill with your business card and my name written on back. He will give you a $50 bill back with my current business card. Now you better get out of here before the police show up.”

The man left and Stan started helping the owner to load the truck. They quickly got the job done.

Stan said, “Now when the police get here, just tell them it was a robbery gone bad or some such. If there is any tape to that camera outside, or anywhere, lose the tape.”

“There is no video.”

Stan got in the truck with the pot and drove off, but he didn’t drive far before he saw flashing lights in his mirror and a siren singing. “Fuck.” He turned the radio in the truck up loud. He floored the gas. He sped down one road and then another but he found himself going no where fast. If he didn’t lose the cop quickly enough, he knew this was going to end up being one of those kind of car chases on television that people watch for entertainment. How was he going to get out of this predicament?

Stan flipped out his cell phone to call his girl pal Sammy. Sitting with Doug in the bar Samantha Wilder answered Stan’s call for help.

“Like honey we’ve got to time ourselves a quick diversion to get the police off my ass. I seriously need to get this cop’s tongue out of my ass crack. I am in a truck filled with pot. Where are you?”

* * *

Talking on her cellphone, Samantha Wilder stood up from the table with Doug White. Doug watched her walk away. She had a nice ass and a hot, prissy walk. Thinking how Samantha knew how to work her ass, his attention turned back to Janet on stage.

Doug pulled some money from his pocket to put in Janet’s G-string. As she came for the money he told her, “I sure would like a lap dance.”

Janet smiled at the young man who looked so innocent. He looked somewhat familiar to her but she wasn’t sure from where. She didn’t say anything but went to the next customer who was dangling money for her attention. Doug felt somewhat rejected but then he noticed Janet kept looking back at him. He wondered if there might still be hope. He wished for the feel of her sexual, sensual form rubbing against his all so horny self.

Samantha Wilder returned to the table but didn’t sit down. “Stud, have you ever had sex in an alley?” She rubbed her hands through his sandy brown hair. “You will like it.”

Doug looked back at Janet. Then he looked at Samantha. “How much will it cost me?”

“No gifts will be required but much appreciated.”

Doug didn’t notice the rather strange, sinister expression on Samantha’s face but from the stage Janet did notice. Janet felt a chill. Maybe it was psychic, maybe it was just knowing that Samantha was a gang member, but Janet felt afraid for the young man.

Doug stood up. Janet watched Doug leave the bar with Samantha. Janet left the stage and talked to one of the Club Managers. “Why do you let that Samantha Wilder in here? She just led a customer out of here. I feel certain she is up to something bad.”

“We don’t judge her and we don’t judge you.”

Janet said, “I am not a gang member. I am a police officer and…”

“You are a police officer who likes to get her freak on in a strip club. I am not judging but…”

“Yeah. I know. If anyone realized what I do on this side of town it would be bad for my career. Still, I’ve got to see if I can find out what Samantha is up to with that young man.”

Janet grabbed a long coat from Marge and left the 5th Side Strip Club. She saw a young man, Benjamin White, standing against a wall. She asked, “Did you just see a man and woman leave the club? Do you know where they went?”

Benjamin White looked at Janet. Her coat accidentally flashed open and he saw her naked breasts. His dick went hard and his brain went blank.

“Can I see your breasts again?” Benjamin asked Janet.

Janet quickly gave the sexy young man a peep as she again asked if he knew where the couple who had just left the bar had gone.

“When I came back from taking piss around the corner I did notice two people walking toward the alley over there. I don’t know whether they came from the club or not though. I only saw them from the back and don’t even even know if it was a man and a woman. It may not be the same couple you are asking about.”

Janet walked across the parking lot to the alley. Benjamin followed right on her heels.

Samantha Wilder led Doug into the alleyway. They walked a short distance and Samantha pushed Doug into a doorway. It was not totally dark as a city light beamed a dim light down from one of the abandoned buildings.

Samantha undid her blouse and ordered Doug to kiss her breasts. He did as she commanded and as she looked into his sweet face she felt a pang of guilt. This was someone’s son and she thought of her dead brother. She wondered why in the hell she was helping Stan Wakes but she knew why. He had obviously come out on top against Raovertso and he had the pot and he had the money and without Raovertso the gang would surely fall back under Stan’s control.

Samantha moaned at the feel of Doug’s tongue against the smooth skin of her ample breasts. As she began to unfasten his pants she moved his mouth from her breasts to her mouth. They kissed. It was a good kiss. It was a better kiss than she had expected. Damn it. She did not want to do what was now planned.

Samantha dropped to her knees and she pulled Doug’s pants down to his ankles. He did have a beautiful cock. She enjoyed the feel of it touching her lips. She licked the full shaft of his cock. She worked it in and out of her mouth. She enjoyed the taste of his cock as she sucked it in and out of her mouth.

Doug moaned. “Oh fuck yeah. Shit. This is better than I ever imagined.” His stomach tightened and he shivered but he did not cum.

Samantha slowed down. She didn’t want him to orgasm too soon.

“I want to feel my cock in your pussy,” Doug told her. “Let us leave this alley and go to a motel.”

“No,” Samantha whispered. “This is dirty. I enjoy dirty.” Samantha kept sucking on his cock.

* * *

Janet and Benjamin walked into the edge of the alleyway. They were where they could not be seen. They watched Samantha and Doug. Benjamin did not look at the man’s face in the shadow of the dim light and did not realize he was looking at his brother.

Benjamin whispered, “God, look at her suck on his cock. I wish someone would suck on my cock like that.”

Janet whispered, “Are you even of legal age?”

“Yes. Not to drink booze, but sex, yes.”

Janet whispered, “Samantha isn’t a whore. Stan Wakes is her boyfriend. I feel that something is not right.”

Janet walked away from the alleyway. Benjamin followed her. He wasn’t sure what to say.

Janet entered the 5th Side Strip Club. Benjamin followed her inside and no one questioned him being there, even as they walked to the dressing area where the strippers were changing.

Janet removed Marge’s coat and handed it to her. Benjamin gasped at seeing Janet almost totally naked. He then looked around and saw that he was surrounded by near naked women. He thought he had died and gone to boner heaven.

Marge asked, “So what is Samantha’s game?”

“I don’t know. She is sucking his dick. If she took him back there to rob him she wouldn’t be having sex with him.”

Benjamin said, “I know the crime rate is ridiculous but it would still be strange if I happened on two different crimes during the same night. Maybe the couple just happened to hit it off and are having sex.”

Janet stared at Benjamin. She asked, “Two crimes? What was the other crime you happened to see?”

Benjamin said, “I saw a robbery earlier tonight. Well, I saw a guy covering his face with a red and black checkered scarf or bandanna or whatever you want to call it. And he had a gun in his coat pocket. He was going into the Orakay Liquor Store.”

Marge said, “Red and black scarf. You know Samantha has a scarf like that.”

Janet nodded. “Yeah, but so do I. It was popular at some of the dollar stores around here at one time.” Janet turned her focus back to Benjamin. “So what did you do when you saw the masked man with the gun?”

Benjamin said, “I got the hell out of there. I ran over here. Once safe away from there and over here, I did do my civic duty and I dialed 911 and reported what I saw to the police. I doubt the robber will make it far in that old beat up car of his.”

Marge said, “I saw Stan Wakes driving an old junk of a car a couple of days ago.”

Janet pulled her cellphone from beneath a pile where Marge had folded her street clothes. She called someone on duty working the desk at the police station where she worked. “Hey sugars, can you pull up what is happening with some report of a robbery at the Oarakay Liquor Store?”

While Janet talked on the phone Benjamin began trying to flirt with Marge. He didn’t get far.

Janet told Marge and Benjamin, “There was a murder at Oarakay Liquors. Raovertso was found dead in the Liquor Store. There is now an on going car chase. The police are after a van that came out from behind the Liquor Store. A car was found abandoned in the parking lot with stolen plates. They don’t know who the junk belongs to but I would guess Stan Wakes and I would guess he is the one driving the van. ”

Marge said, “So Stan is getting back control of his gang and his territory by killing Raovertso.”

Janet frowned and said, “No. Stan is going to prison.”

Janet quickly got her street clothes on. She quickly left the 5th Side Strip Club to return to the alleyway. Benjamin followed after her. Janet told him to stay at the club but he ignored her.

* * *

Samantha stopped sucking on Doug’s cock. She played with his throbbing member for a moment and then stood up. As she and Doug started kissing she worked herself around where she was standing against the door and Doug was standing in the alleyway facing Samantha and the door.

Samantha pulled her panties down and lifted her skirt up. Doug slammed his cock to penetrate her pussy fast and hard. “I will be a virgin no more,” Doug moaned. “Oh God, this feels so good.” They kissed as he moved his cock in and out of her pussy. They kissed and they kissed. The kissed some more between expletives. “Fuucck. Hellllll. I may never send a Valentine’s Day card to my right hand again.”

Samantha giggled, “You are funny. And so sexy. This is so goooood.” Then Samantha heard a siren. She tightened her lips and her eyes grimaced shut for she knew the horrible thing she was about to do.

Doug saw tears and he asked, “Am I making you cry?”

Samantha’s phone made a sound to let her know that a text message had been received but the text message was not needed. Samantha could hear the sound of a siren growing louder as the car chase, with her boyfriend fleeing the police, approached. Then Samantha saw the van turn into the alleyway with the lone police car right behind it. As of yet no additional police had been called to join the chase.

Doug stared at the headlights of the speeding van. He moved into the doorway area and tight against Samantha to avoid being hit by the van. The moment after the van passed, Samantha shoved Doug. Screaming in tears she yelled, “Oh no!” like what she had done was an accident. With his pants around his ankles he hit against the side of the Police Car and spun around and bent forward landing on the hood of the police car. His head hit against the windshield as the Police Car slid squealing to a halt.

Frantically, Samantha quickly pulled her panties up and opened the door to the abandoned building and without being seen by the police vanished into the building.

Janet didn’t have a gun and could do nothing as she saw the van speed off. She and Benjamin raced down the alley to join the Police Officer who was checking Doug to see if he was still alive. Janet and Benjamin saw Doug on the hood of the police car. They saw his face smashed against the windshield. The police officer checked his pulse and then called into the police radio mic attached to the sleeve of his uniform to let dispatch and any officers on the frequency to know what was happening. Then the officer gently positioned Doug off the windshield to reposition him on the car hood. The over weight officer with a gruff face and mean expression said, “You are going to be okay kid. You are going to be okay.” In the dim light Benjamin and Janet could see the officer was fighting back tears. Then Benjamin looked at the face of the man on the hood of the police car.

“Fucking hell. That is my brother Doug.” Benjamin ran to his brother to get a closer look. He hoped he was wrong in thinking it was his brother, but he saw he was right. It was Doug. In hysterical tears Benjamin climbed onto the hood of the police car and lay next to his brother. “This night can’t be real. This can’t be real. Doug. Doug. Please don’t die.”

An image of Doug and Benjamin playing, rough housing, in the Apartment pool, flashed in Janet’s mind. Until that moment she had not realized they were her neighbors in the Minion Plex. Janet looked at the police officer and he looked at her. Janet said, “I think the woman he was with is in that abandoned building.”

Benjamin pulled his brother’s pants up. Benjamin said, “No one has to know he was in the alley with a whore. Do they? My parents would expect that from me or Bobby but not from Doug. People don’t have to know he was with a whore, do they?”

The police officer said, “It is not related to the case; the chase. As far as I am concerned he was just taking a piss in the alley.”

Janet eased closer to the police officer. She said, “The woman was Samantha Wilder. If the man driving the van is Stan Wakes, she is his girlfriend.”

“Shit, fuck. You are saying the woman pushed the kid in front of my car to stop the chase.”

“I don’t know that for sure. I can’t prove it. I don’t even know if Stan Wakes was the one driving the van. I didn’t see the driver. I just wanted you to know what happened here might be related to the case.”

Benjamin said, “So. A woman pushed Doug in front of the police car while he was taking a piss. You don’t have to say they were having sex in the alleyway. Do you?”

Janet said, “I didn’t see anyone having sex.”

The officer nodded. “God I wish EMS would get the fuck here.”

Benjamin asked, “To which hospital will he be taken. I’ve got to call my parents. I’ve got to let them know.”

“Grady. Then if your parents want him moved and if he is able, he can be moved to a different hospital.” The officer whispered to Janet, “Can you get the kid away from his brother. Tell him that you will drive him to the hospital. He doesn’t need to ride with his brother. There is a chance his brother will be DOA and the kid does not need to be there for that.”

Chapter 6

Alicia Silver stared at Tommy Harris. “Well that was a fine mess. It spoiled all of my fun. Still, it presents a puzzle. How shall I get around Amberline Darko’s spell so as to kill Steve Webster.”

Tommy said, “Why not just leave Steve alone?”

“No. The way I have it figured, if I were to shoot a bullet at Steve the bullet would come back to shoot me. I tried to use a serial killer to kill Steve and the serial killer tried to kill me. I wonder if I were to order you to kill Steve if then you would try to kill me. Is the spell so powerful that it would cause a betrayal even given our bond.”

“Please do not give such an order.”

“I can rescind the order. That was so proven with Kyle.”

“What if you can’t rescind it in time?”

“Do you honestly think you would be able to kill me?”

“I do not wish to anger you but still I fear I must warn you with a reminder. The mortal serial killer had you running.”

“But now I know to rescind the order.”

“True but please do not give me such an order.”

“I want you to suck the blood, the life from Jane Wilifar until she is near death. I want you to gain control of her so that she is your slave. Then you know what I wish for you to order her to do. You do know the order that I will not this moment mention.”

“Of course. I will make her my slave and I will order her to kill Steve Webster and then she will try to kill me.”

“I think the spell is specific to me.”

“And if you are wrong?”

“If she tries to kill you then you rescind the order.”

“So I guess that I am going to New York.”

* * *

Billy helped everyone settle into Hutch’s place. They very quickly discovered that all the interviews had been cancelled as someone had sent word that Kyle Kingerstone would not be available. Alicia indeed had used a spell to clean the murder scene of Kyle before the police arrived. No one knew that he was dead.

June Ross was rather pissed that her five minutes of fame had been cancelled. Then Hutch offered her a job at the magazine he had decided to buy from his friend. That made her very happy. Sissy and Howard were glad that they were going to have time to go site seeing around New York and not be bothered with having to prep for or do any media interviews. They had no desire to work or live in New York.

Steve drove over to Jane’s place. He would be staying with her. That was the plan. She greeted him at the door to her mansion with a smile and Steve remembered how much fun they’d had together. They had remained friends after her move, at first with frequent communications, but then they had grown apart and of course Steve did prefer men to women. Still, there had been a spark between the two. It was not a platonic relationship. Steve had enjoyed sex with Jane.

Steve came into the main room of the mansion. He looked around at the tasteful, conservative decor. Then his stare fixed upon Jane dressed in colorful, almost gaudy fashion. “I’ve never been here before. Still it seems so familiar. And that hippy like, 70’s dress you are wearing feels as though it is an ordinary part of your every day look though I suspect you have not changed that much. I’ve never seen you wearing that style and yet I think I have.” Steve took a deep breath. In an apprehensive voice he stated, “I’ve dreamed this moment before.”

Jane laughed. “And what happened next in this moment, your dream?”

Steve picked Jane up into his arms. He looked at the staircase. “Your bedroom is the first bedroom on the right at the top of the stairs and that is where I am going to carry you.” Steve carried her up the stairs. He gently laid her down on the bed. He crawled into the bed and lay next to her. He snuggled with her. He kissed her on the neck. Each side of her tender neck he kissed. There was no vampire mark and yet he thought there might be. Steve said, “Jane you are in danger. Do you believe in vampires?”

“No.”

Steve pulled out his cellphone. He called Billy. “You know how you told me about Tommy Harris being a vampire and that he was with Alicia Silver.”

Billy said, “Yes.”

“I think Jane is in jeopardy from him. I’ve had some kind of premonition. Jane is in danger.”

“What do you want me to do?”

“Come over here to her place. Stay here with us.”

“Okay.”

Steve and Billy hung up. Jane gave Steve a hard look. She got out of bed and walked over to her dresser. She began to brush her hair.

“I remember you brushing your hair that way when you were angry. I am sorry I have made you mad. I am scared for you.”

Jane said, “You should be scared for yourself.”

“Why? I don’t understand.”

Tommy stepped out of the closet. “I didn’t bite her. I just hypnotized her. I didn’t want to hurt her. I don’t want to hurt you but Alicia…”

Steve said, “But you will bite her. You will feed on her. That is what I saw. I didn’t see you coming out of the closet. I didn’t see this moment.”

Jane pulled a gun from her dresser drawer. She pointed the gun at Steve. She pulled the trigger. Her aim was off and the bullet struck into the wall. She fired another bullet and it vanished.

Tommy heard Alicia screaming in thought. “I am having to outrun this damn fucking bullet. Rescind the order. Rescind the order.”

Tommy screamed, “Order rescinded.”

Tommy then vanished and Jane passed out and fell to the floor. Steve picked Jane up into his arms. You are still in danger from the vampire witch and her slave. Steve put Jane into her bed. “I wish Billy would get here soon.”

* * *

When Billy arrived at Jane Wilfar’s Mansion he did not knock on the door as the door was not locked. He entered the mansion and called out for Steve. Steve walked to the top of the stairs and looked down at Billy.

Steve said, “Your friend Tommy Harris was here. He had Jane hypnotized to shoot me, When she shot at me, the bullet fired through the ether so that the Vampire Witch Alicia Silver had to run from the bullet.”

“Run from a bullet. She must be fast.”

“And dangerous. Do you know of a way to change the future so that Jane will not be bit by Tommy the Vampire?”

“I don’t know shit and I don’t know how to get the Legman to come out and protect you.”

Jane came out of her room. “What happened? Did I really try to shoot you or was that just a dream?”

“It was real. You were hypnotized but at least he didn’t bite you to make you his slave in that way.”

Jane looked down at Billy. “You were not lying when you told me how handsome Billy Bingo is. It would have been fun to have had a three-way with him.”

“What do you mean would have? It is still possible. We can ask?”

Jane shook her head no. “Steve, the main reason I wanted you to come here for my brother’s wedding is I wanted you to come here so I could tell you something.”

“What?” Steve asked.

“I have a cancer. I am dying. I might live another couple of years or I might die in just a few months.”

Steve wasn’t sure what to say. His heart sank. He mumbled, “There must be some way to save you?”

“No. The cancer has spread too far. My doctors have been honest with me. They say there is no hope.”

“My mom knows witches who have healing powers. When Billy is the Legman he might have healing powers. You can be healed.”

“No. I am ready to die.”

“Ready to die. That is a crazy bitch ass thing to think.”

Jane laughed. “You always did know the right thing to say. Not.”

Steve tried to sound tough but his voice cracked. “Don’t say you want to die. Now I wish Tommy had bit you and turned you into a vampire.”

Jane said, “I am tired and I am ready to leave this world. I believe in God. I believe in heaven. I am not afraid.”

“Please don’t give up on life.” Steve tried to joke. “As much as you like three-ways; I suspect three-ways are frowned upon in heaven.”

Jane shrugged. “I don’t know. When I think of heaven I always picture Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, and James Dean in a three-way. I sure would like to be Marilyn Monroe in that sandwich.”

The Legman whispered to Billy, “That girl is never going to make it to heaven but she will be welcomed to a good place. I will not let her be taken to hell.”

Billy whispered back to his inner-self. “Can you cure her cancer?”

The Legman whispered, “My magic cannot save someone who wants to die.”

Billy walked up the stairs. “They will not let you into heaven.”

Steve screamed, “Billy! You of all people should not judge. Why would you say such a thing to someone who is dying?”

Billy ignored Steve but focused on Jane. He told her, “You can be cured but only if you want to live. Tell me, why do you want to die?”

“I am ready to die but that does not mean that I want to die.”

“But you do.” Billy said as the Legman emerged and Billy became the Legman. “If you want to live I can cure you; but the truth is that you do not want to live. Tell me what is so awful that you have given up on life.”

“If you know so much then you tell me.”

The Legman thought a moment. “You were pregnant with Steve’s son and you had an abortion. That has preyed on your mind, on your sanity, to the point that you wish yourself dead. I can put your son back inside of you. You can have a happy son. Will that make you want to live?”

“What if I am not a good mother? What if I am such a bad mother I hurt him worse than even not allowing him to be born?”

“You are providing a vessel for a soul that already is and that soul is as reluctant to want life as you are reluctant to give it. He is scared just as you are scared.”

“Why?”

“His last life was not a very pleasant life. Truth is, there is some comfort when we are in the shadows of death. On some level you remember that peaceful calm; that resting sleep of death. It can be nice when all is calm just as it can be scary when the shadows frolic and the heathen rage. Even as horrifying as the shadows can be, earth can also seem a creepy, intimidating abode of human tragedy and painful shackles that create memories haunting even into the shadows of death. The lives we live on earth can make the shadows that much more frightening. There is the fear of what is in the shadows and there is the fear of what might be in life. It is that fear, and dare I say regret, that freezes both of you in a moment of time that is your sorrow and your shame.”

“Sorrow? Shame? It is more a fear that rest in self doubt that caused my decision I sometimes do regret. I doubted and do doubt that I can be a good mother. What if I can’t give him a pleasant life? What if I raise him to be a failure or worse: a criminal. What if I raise him to be a serial killer or even more nightmarish, the President of the United States?”

“To show him grace. To love him. To help him find the light. That will be pleasant enough and you will have help.”

“You are that powerful of a witch. You can honestly put my baby back inside of me.”

“I can and if you want to live, I can help you to live. What is your choice? The choice is yours.”

Jane smiled at Steve. “Dear, are you ready to be a father?”

Steve grabbed Jane up into his arms and together they spun round with smiles and laughter.

So the Legman placed the baby back inside of Jane and her cancer vanished.

Steve told Jane, “So I guess we should plan a wedding.”

Jane shook her head no. “I want you to be the father of my baby and be a good father. I want us to have a closeness and keep the love we have always shared alive. To some, I guess, marriage is a beautiful thing but it is not for us. You will find someone who has a dick between their legs who will share your home and I…. Well, I don’t know if I will ever find a love greater than my love for you but I will look.”

The Legman asked, “So what of the man who left you alone, dying, in this place you chose to be your tomb?”

“Do I need to tell you? Can’t you just know it.”

“You do not need to tell me. You do not need to tell Steve?”

“Tell me what?” Steve asked.

Jane whispered, “Tell him.”

“He tried to kill her. He stole money from her. He kept her a virtual prisoner here until her brother discovered what was happening?”

Steve screamed, “I will kill him. What is his name? If you do not tell me, I will find it out.”

The Legman said, “He is a ghost now. He is in this room. If he does not leave this place soon his ghost will find the angels of hell coming for him.”

Jane said, “I felt he has been haunting me, but my health has been fragile and with that my sanity.”

The Legman nodded. “He is gone now. He knows not to return.”

Steve said, “I am still afraid for Jane. I still can’t forget that premonition where I saw Tommy Harris bite Jane.”

“Every time he or any vampire tries to bite her they will be returned to their coffin. I do not wish Tommy to be hurt. I think there is hope for him.”

The Legman then vanished back into Billy and Billy emerged. Billy remembered not what had been said or had transpired. Steve told him some of it but not all of it. Steve now fully understood that Billy was not just a witch but a great deal more. How much more he could only guess in fantasy. A lesser god? A hand for the greater God? In early days the visages of the lesser gods were partly for their pleasure but even then they played a part in a greater destiny. New ages are not forged by mortals or even witches. They are forged by the lesser gods in agreement with the One God. When they come to earth there is indeed something afoot. That is what Steve’s mother had told him. Linda had asked her son what purpose Steve thought Billy might serve. Steve had no idea. At the time the conversation had seemed somewhat silly as at that time he did not know that which his mother would later teach him.

Steve stared at Billy as did Jane. They both knew they were with a great one and yet as Billy he seemed somewhat ordinary. Steve said, “The Legman has helped us in ways we know he is not an ordinary witch.”

Billy nodded.

“A lesser god does not come to earth to just be Billy Bingo.” Steve paused as he considered his words. “Some say lesser gods come to earth to forge a new age. What do you think the new age might be like that the gods are planning?”

“I don’t know. You should have asked the Legman.”

Steve smiled. “I doubt he would have answered. Still, I have my curiosity as I feel I am on the cusp of being part of something great, but I don’t know what. I had heard things that had made me think the Legman was something of a hood. Dangerous. Then there he was with us and I saw a kindness about him. He helped us.”

“I am glad he helped you. Understand though I was the one who was the gang member, the hood. I was the one who was dangerous. I was the one who had murder in my heart for what was done to my mother.”

Jane said, “You are the same person. He is somewhere inside you and you are somewhere inside him. I know you are both good.”

“I hope that is who I am. Good. Good both in wanting to help people as well as having the skill to help them. Still, I have a military mind and I look at adversaries as a potential conquest on a battlefield.” Billy was not sure why he would have said such a thing to Jane. Billy questioned himself. “Are those my words or the Legman’s words?”

Chapter 5

Raymond Bing, Billy Bingo, and Howard Bing checked into a Hotel near the Atlanta Airport. They did not want to have to make an early morning drive to the airport and they figured staying next to the airport would insure they did not miss their flight. Howard’s girlfriend Sissy Devlin and her friend June Ross checked into a different room with Sissy’s Aunt Willow Devlin.

Howard told Billy and Raymond, “You two share that bed and I will sleep in this bed. Now I don’t want you two doing any of that gay shit while I am in the room.”

Billy said, “I will sleep in this bed. Raymond will sleep in that bed. And you can sleep on a cot I will have them bring in.”

Howard said, “Explain to me again why I should not rent my own room and not have to share a room with you two sissy boys.”

Billy said, “Because you, who thinks with your pecker, helped get a serial killer released from prison and it is up to us sissy boys to keep you alive.”

Howard frowned and hit a table at the front window with his fist. “I keep telling you he isn’t guilty. Sissy and June proved that he isn’t guilty.”

Raymond said, “They proved that the case had flaws. They proved that the judge made errors. They proved the D.A. made errors. They proved there was a level of reasonable doubt given the case that was presented. That hardly means that Kyle Kingsterone is not a serial killer.”

Howard said, “Most everyone now thinks he is innocent, that is, except for you two asshole nut jobs.”

Billy called the front desk to get a cot brought up. He then ordered a pizza be delivered both to their room and the Devlin room. Still fully dressed Billy settled into his bed to work on a crossword puzzle and to watch a silly sitcom on TV. Raymond opened up a book to read as he settled in at the table across from his nephew.

Howard asked, “Since you two are gay I guess you love Obama.”

Raymond looked at his nephew. “Please. Obama is just George Bush 2.0 with an Hawaiian tan.”

Howard asked, “Billy what do you think?”

“It doesn’t matter what I think. I don’t have a magic wand to control the world.”

Raymond laughed as Billy and Raymond gave one another an odd look. Howard noticed their strange glances but decided he would not explore what the inside joke might be.

Howard asked, “So Billy, what do you think of my girlfriend?” Howard had noticed when they were checking into the Hotel that Billy was eyeballing his girlfriend and her aunt.

“Sissy is beautiful and her aunt is also quite the knockout and exquisite. I think you should stop being such an asshole to your uncle and fix him up with her Aunt. “

Howard laughed. “Willow is not a man in drag. She does not have a dick.”

“Raymond is divorced from a woman. You know when you assume Raymond might not be interested in a classy, beautiful woman just makes you an ass.”

Howard looked at his Uncle. He started to say something but then he didn’t. He thought a second. “Well, she is a nice lady and even if you are not interested in her sexually she probably would be a good friend to you. Sissy was telling me that she has been lonely since her roommate moved out. If the occasion arises I will try to get you two to do things together.”

Raymond asked, “Willow isn’t seeing anyone?”

“No,” Howard answered.

Billy asked, “So what was her last boyfriend like? Do you know?”

“I don’t know. Since I have been seeing Sissy, as far as I know Willow hasn’t been dating. Sissy has been worried about her being alone. Sissy didn’t really like Willow’s roommate. She told me that the roommate was a rough woman and always had a really bad haircut. Still, even though Sissy didn’t like the woman she now wishes the roommate had not moved out because her Aunt has been so sad, in a total funk, since then.”

“I have been in something of a funk myself.” Then Billy thought a second. Billy laughed. “Wait. Sissy didn’t like the roommate because she was quote, rough, and she had a really bad haircut.”

Raymond said, “Yeah, Billy, you caught Sissy’s code-speak too, didn’t you?”

Howard asked, “What?”

Raymond grinned. “Yeah, my nephew is not the sharpest knife in the drawer but I guess I love him anyway.”

“Okay. I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer. What are you two saying?”

Billy stared at Howard. “We are saying that we think Willow is not so different from Raymond and me and that your girlfriend should not use crude stereotypes to describe someone.”

Howard was about to say something when there was a knock on the door. “Whatever.” Howard rolled his eyes as he opened the door. Seeing Sissy standing behind the bellboy and pizza delivery man, Howard stepped out to be with his girlfriend. Billy and Raymond both went to the door.

A bellboy brought the cot in and for a tip set it up under Billy’s directions while Raymond handled the pizza delivery man who quickly left. Willow and June came into the room with Howard and Sissy laughing and joking about something. After Billy was finished helping to get the cot set up and the bellboy had left, Billy got a piece of pizza and a drink from the fridge and crawled back into his bed. Willow got a slice of pizza and a drink and crawled into the bed with Billy while June crawled into Raymond’s bed. Raymond handed her a drink and a slice of pizza while he got his own. Raymond then sat back down at the table. Howard and Sissy got their food and drinks and snuggled together on the cot.

Willow asked Billy, “So do you really think we are all in danger from Kyle?”

“I don’t know, but we do not want to take any chances.” Billy asked, “So is Kyle going to be on the plane with us?”

June shook her head. She frowned. “Some more detective.”

Willow said, “No. He is on the no fly list. He will be traveling to New York by train.”

“Oh. I was kind of hoping to meet him in person to try to size him up. Willow, have you met him?”

“Yes. Yes. I have.”

“What did you think about him?”

“I would totally like to take my niece’s side and say your sister is all wrong, but I am not sure. There is something off about him. There is a reason the jury found him guilty and it obviously was not because of what a great job the D.A. did.”

Sissy said, “He was totally charming to you. He is as nice as he can be. I can’t believe he would hurt a fly.”

“Honey, I could be totally wrong and you are right. I am just being honest with Billy. And the truth is that I do not trust people who are overly smooth and appear friendly even when you insult them. Like if I give you some kind of yo mama, give me a yo mama back. Tangle with me. Dance with me. Don’t send a chill down my spine with a smile.”

Howard said, “Well, I understand that. Raymond sometimes gives me that smile.”

Raymond threw his head back to look at the ceiling. “When I do tangle with you in disagreement you storm off to insult me to your father, my brother, with whom I want to continue to be on speaking terms.”

Willow nodded. “Well, I understand that. My roommate used to do that toward the end of us living together. And I am sure I do that when I really do not want to fight with someone I love.”

Billy agreed. “Yes. We all do the friendly when sometimes we’d rather fight but then we don’t really want to fight because we know it will just make a situation worse.”

Willow said, “Exactly, but this is different with Kyle. I guess I am not explaining it very well. And maybe if I didn’t know he had once been a convicted serial killer I might look at his mannerisms differently.”

June said, “Well, I think he is innocent.”

Sissy said, “Yeah, we would not have worked that hard to get him freed if we thought he were guilty.”

Willow screamed, “Oh my God. The three of you worked maybe two days on this project. Some anonymous person gave you all the information you used.” Willow mocked her niece, “Worked so hard.” Willow bit into her slice of pizza and took a drink. “I worked harder in college to get laid than you worked to get this serial killer released. That in itself should clue you in that something is not right here. Who the hell do you think you are? Steve Jobs and Bill Gates being escorted through the xerox labs so the illuminati can make you rich and famous. Someone was using you.”

Sissy screamed, “What? Who the hell are Steve Jobs and Bill Gates and what the hell does that even mean? You are always saying things that do not make any sense to me.”

Howard said, “She is trying to make you feel dumb. Raymond does that to me all of the time. Your Aunt never wanted you to do this project.”

Willow nodded. “You got that last part right. I did not want her to do the project and I sure as hell did not want her to start dating you.” Willow slapped Billy on the leg. “The girl never listens to me.”

Smiling, Raymond observed quietly the different banter between the people in the room. Even the disagreements made him feel silently joyful. Then Billy began to notice Raymond. He knew Raymond did not have many friends beyond family and Billy’s parents and maybe one or two co-workers and of course Hutch. Then Billy thought that was probably more than he, himself, had.

Billy asked Raymond, “What are you smiling about?”

“I like this. This is so much better than sitting home alone and watching reruns on Television.”

“I guess.” Billy asked, “So Willow, do you have much of a social life.”

“Hell no. Why do you think I jumped at the chance of going to New York with my niece. So Billy, what about you? Are you a regular social butterfly?”

Raymond said, “Billy has been mending a broken heart. The woman he loves married someone else.”

Howard questioned, “Woman?”

Willow smiled. “Howard was telling me that you and Billy are gay.”

“I thought gay men are only friends with gay men.”

Billy said, “That is stupid but I am bisexual as is Raymond.”

Howard screamed, “Please. Raymond is totally into guys. Bisexual is just a term used by gay men who refuse to accept they prefer men to women or do not want people to think of them as queer.”

Raymond said, “I guess there was a time I did care what people think but that was not the reason I married. I loved my wife. Then that divorce was so messy and she lied. I did not have an affair with a man. I was faithful to her.”

Willow smiled at Raymond. “I know what you mean. My roommate started making up all kind of crazy shit about me.”

Billy asked, “Why would your roommate do that?”

Willow looked at her niece and became quiet. She didn’t answer Billy’s question.

Sissy finally spoke up. “The bitch was going to do a palimony suit against Aunt Willow. My father finally gave her $50,000 to get lost and she took it.”

“My brother gave her money?”

“She was hurting you and it was going to get worse. Please do not tell him that I told you.”

“No. I won’t. So you know?”

Howard’s mouth fell open and he rolled his eyes as he looked at Billy. He then looked at his Uncle. “Rough and bad haircut is code-speak for lesbian. I totally did not understand that.”

Sissy punched Howard and laughed. “You are so stupid but I love you anyway.”

Howard stared at Sissy. “Love.” Then he felt butterflies in his stomach. “This is love. I do love you.” Howard kissed Sissy hard on the lips. “No matter how stupid I am, please don’t stop loving me.”

Willow almost teared up. “Fuck. Hell. Even I am starting to like the dumb little Nazi.” Then Willow pulled a picture of her roommate from her billfold and showed it to Billy. “That really is not that bad of a haircut.”

“Keeping a picture of your X. That is like self torture.”

“So show me a picture of Rachel.”

Billy reached into back pocket and pulled out his billfold. He pulled out a picture or Rachel with Dirk. He showed the picture to Willow but both Sissy and June moved from the cot and the bed to sneak a peek.

Willow said, “Is that the guy she married? You a keep a picture of her with her husband?”

“I consider them both family and I would die for either one of them.”

June said, “Die for them. Shit. If I saw my X drowning I think I would stand on the shore and wave goodbye.”

Sissy punched her friend. “You would not. I know about that loan you gave him the other day.”

June rubbed her arm. “I don’t know why I did that. I don’t love him. I don’t even like him. I guess old habits are hard to break.” Then June took the picture from Billy and took a closer look at it. “Oh my God, they were in the society page. Fucking rich. Huge wedding. So Billy boy, you are well connected. I didn’t realize.”

Howard walked over to look at the picture. He commented, “She is not that pretty.”

Billy took the picture back from June and Howard. “I don’t know why I love her. There is a lot about me that I don’t really understand.”

Howard eased back to the cot with Sissy. Sitting back down he told Billy. “I don’t always understand why I do shit either; but it sometimes works out.” Howard kissed Sissy.

Willow fell asleep in Billy’s arms. Sissy fell asleep in Howard’s arms. June returned to Raymond’s bed alone and fell asleep. Raymond got up and left the room, planning to sleep in the Devlin Hotel room.

* * *

Kyle Kingsterone thought he was the most lucky man in the world. One day he was sitting in isolation on death row and the next day he was signing a bunch of papers and being let out of prison as though it were all just a dream. He didn’t much like that he had to play nice with the college kids responsible. It sort of pissed him off that he had to go to New York to talk to various journalist and media people.

Before he realized that he was on a no fly list, he had rented a room at the Hotel next to the airport. It was not that far from the Train Station and he decided it was just as good of a place as any to stay until time for his scheduled departure.

He thought he was dreaming when the witch vampire Alicia Silver appeared, as from thin air, into his room. Then when he realized that he was indeed awake he imagined she was akin to the tooth fairy, a magical creature, and he thought how much fun he might have killing the tooth fairy.

Kyle saw Alicia in the mirror as she appeared at his back. Nude, Kyle continued shaving with a straight razor. Their eyes met in the mirror and the thought of Dracula meeting Frankenstein amused Alicia. She laughed. Alicia said, “So dear boy do you want to thank your fairy godmother for casting the spell that got you released from death row.” Actually her work had been more technical through the college kids than magical.

“Not particularly. So what is in it for you? What is your game?”

Alicia was somewhat befuddled at Kyle’s non-reaction to her appearing in his room through magic. She said, “Straight to the point. No sense of fun. I bet you did not even get one ounce of pleasure from all those people you murdered.”

“You would lose that bet. What is your game?”

Alicia caused an image of Steve Webster to appear in the mirror. If you can kill this man before a friend of mine can kill you, then I will let you live.”

“You will let me live?” There was the sound of derision and a challenge to her authority in his voice.

“Well, I will turn you into a vampire which is sort of living but not technically.”

Now Alicia did not know that Linda’s friend, Amberline Darko, had put a spell in place to protect Steve from Alicia or that Kyle would so be effected by any such spell to place Alicia, herself, in danger. Regardless he was effected and the moment Alicia gave the kill order to Kyle, Kyle turned to point his straight razor toward Alicia. Alicia quickly reacted to Kyle’s threatening her with the razor. She attempted to use her magic against Kyle but her magic did not work.

Backing away from Kyle, Alicia screamed, “Fucking hell. Tommy! I need you. Bring our swords.” The mighty sword had always been Alicia’s favorite weapon; even when not fighting other witches. Alicia repeated, “Bring our swords.”

Kyle also preferred using a sword and dropped his razor to the floor. One of the first things that Kyle had done when he was released from prison, as soon as he could lose the college kids who had gotten him released, was to go to a junk / collectible store and buy a sword for himself. As Alicia watched, Kyle rushed to his hanging clothes bag and pulled his own sword from it. Alicia slowly, sneaky like, moved from the bathroom. Her intent was to reach the door to exit the Hotel Room but she had to pass by Kyle first.

Kyle laughed as he swung his sword in her direction. The tip of the sword missed impact against her flesh but by a gnat’s hair. “So tooth fairy, do you want to die by the sword? Killing you with the sharp edged cut from this beautiful sword of mine will so please me.”

Alicia tried to vanish. She could not. “Tommy, get your ass here. My magic is not working against this monster.”

Feeling the terror and the horror emanating from his master, Tommy screamed back to Alicia. “Crazy bitch, run. I am not a witch. Even though we are fast, we vampires can not just snap our fingers and be somewhere. You get your ass out of there”

Alicia dodged the mad, wild swings of Kyle’s sword toward her head. She made her way toward the door. She opened the door. She picked up a chair next to the door and threw it at Kyle as she ran along the balcony in her gothic flowing gown. “Why couldn’t I have chosen today to have worn my sexy short, shorts.”

Nude and holding a sword, Kyle chased after Alicia.

Alicia glanced back at the monster chasing after her, “Yeah, you just keep on swinging that sword. I hope you cut your dick off.”

* * *

Raymond had just left his Hotel Room with Billy and Howard when Alicia ran toward him with the nude Kyle chasing after her and swinging the sword. Raymond backed into the Hotel room and he screamed, “Kyle is out here naked and trying to kill some woman.”

June rolled over in Raymond’s bed. With her eyes closed she moaned, “I am pretty sure Kyle has a room closer to the Train Station. Must be someone else.”

Raymond looked at June with his Matthew Perry look of befuddlement. “Must be someone else? How many killers do you think are running around?” Then he stared at Kyle staring at him. “Oh hell.”

Willow and Billy both jumped out of bed. They saw Raymond backing away from Kyle who now had turned his attention from Alicia toward Raymond. Kyle wasn’t exactly threatening Raymond with the sword but it was not clear what he was planning. Kyle looked confused. Billy dived to move between Raymond and Kyle, to protect Raymond.

When Alicia saw that Kyle wasn’t chasing her she stopped. Thinking the danger might be over she walked back to where Kyle stood with Billy but she made sure she remained where Kyle could not strike her with his sword. From where she stood she could see Billy and she also could see Willow. Willow and she stared into each other’s eyes.

Billy told Kyle, “You do not want to hurt Raymond. You don’t.”

“No. It would be fun to kill him but right now it is this Tooth Fairy woman I want to kill. I can’t allow this woman, this Tooth Fairy, to make me kill Steve Webster. Killing him is not allowed. I must kill this woman.”

“What?”

“I am not repeating myself.” Kyle swung his sword, again trying to kill Alicia but he missed. Alicia screamed, “Help me.” She continued screaming as she took off running.

Kyle ran fast after Alicia.

Billy told Raymond to stay and protect the girls. “I am going to see if I can stop him.”

Raymond said, “Billy. Protect your head. Remember.”

As Billy rushed after Kyle, Billy screamed back to Raymond. “I know. Son of a bitch would have a sword.”

Billy ran to catch up with Kyle. “Stop this now. We will not report it,” Billy told him.

Kyle cried. “I can’t stop it. I can’t stop. It is forbidden that Steve Webster be killed. I don’t know who he is. I don’t know what this is about. I just know when she showed me a picture of Steve Webster in the mirror and told me to kill him then something snapped.”

Billy and Kyle ran side by side. “I don’t know who this woman is that you are chasing but I can not allow you to kill her.”

Accidentally, Alicia ran into a dead end alleyway with no way to escape Kyle. Billy and Kyle both stood with Alicia when Tommy Harris appeared next to her. Tommy had been running fast enough to appear invisible but when he stopped running to save Alicia it was the same as if he had appeared as though through magic. Tommy held two large swords. He quickly tossed one of the swords to Alicia.

Billy stared at Tommy Harris. “You are alive. You aren’t dead?”

Tommy said, “I am a vampire.” His explanation was simple, to the point, and oddly the truth.

Tommy and Alicia both took a stance to fight Kyle. Tommy told Billy, “Billy, get out of here. Just get out of here. When she is finished killing Kyle she is just as likely to try to kill you.”

Kyle spit. “That Tooth Fairy witch can’t kill me so long as she is trying to give me orders to kill Steve Webster.”

Alicia laughed. “Of course.” Alicia slapped her forehead. “So I rescind that order.”

Dizzy, dazed, confused, Kyle fell to ground on his knees. Alicia swung her sword and cut his head off. His head rolled on the ground as blood spewed from his throat.

Alicia laughed, “Dumb bastard.” Then Alicia looked at Tommy. “I can’t believe Linda Webster thought to have Amberline Darko put a spell in place to protect Steve. That spoiled all of our fun.”

Alicia stared at Billy and through Billy she saw the aura of an old adversary. That was something she hadn’t expected to see. When people had warned her about Billy and the Legman she had been dismissive; but now she saw her old enemy and she knew their warnings were not wrong.

Alicia and Tommy vanished, leaving Billy standing in the alley with a headless corpse. Sirens blared as the Legman took control of Billy and then with the snap of his fingers took Billy out of the alley and back near his Hotel Room. It was Billy, not the Legman, who walked into the room. Everyone asked Billy what had happened.

“The woman used a sword and she cut Kyle’s head off. Before the police showed up we both got out of there and left the police to find what they will find.”

Sissy said, “You can’t do that. You have to go back. You have to tell the police what happened.”

Howard shouted. “The hell he does. We got a damned fucking serial killer the hell out of jail and now you want my Uncle’s friend to put himself in a position where he might get arrested. Hell, fucking no.”

June said, “He is more likely to get into trouble by fleeing the scene of a crime.”

Billy asked, “Did any of you call 911?”

June said, “No. Raymond and Willow would not let us call the police. Raymond insisted you would be able to handle it and for some reason Willow agreed.”

Billy gave a thankful glance at Willow and saw the tears streaming down her face. Willow said, “Tell us the truth. Tell us. Forget what the girls are saying. They will tell no one.”

Billy said, “They are studying to be journalist.”

“And they need to learn now what to report and what not to report.”

“Look. You really want to know the truth of the matter.” Billy thought a moment and was not even sure where he was getting the full truth of the matter from. He had not consciously fully thought out what the hell had just happened. Still, he told the truth. It spewed from his mouth. “A witch fed you three information to get a serial killed freed. She intended to use the serial killer to kill Steve Webster but Steve Webster was protected by another witch so when she gave the order, the serial killer began trying to kill her. In an alleyway, after a vampire she controls showed up with two swords, she realized to get her powers back all she needed to do was rescind the order to kill Steve Webster. After she did that she then cut the head of Kyle Kingsterone off. She beheaded him. She and the vampire vanished and I got the hell out of there. If I left any DNA evidence in the alley—the alley is probably filled with the DNA of all sorts of people—and the police come after me—I will deal with it.”

Sissy looked at Raymond. “My God, your friend is totally insane. He believes in witches and vampires.”

Howard stared at his girlfriend. “I love you. I seriously do. And I know you are one of the smartest people I have ever known, but the world is not what you think it is.”

Willow stood with tears still streaming down her face as she listened to Billy. Willow said, “We all could have been killed.” Willow bit at her lips. “I looked into the eyes of that woman; that witch. Those were the most evil eyes I have ever seen. I do not doubt for a second that she was a witch. That she is a witch. And what Billy is not telling us is that he is also a witch. Raymond told Billy to protect his head. A witch can only be killed by beheading or fire.”

Billy stared at Willow. “I don’t know why I told you all as much as I did. This must not be repeated.”

Willow nodded. “I know. No one beyond these walls will know of this day. Thank you for saving us.”

“I don’t think you all were in much danger. June, Sissy, and Howard were just being used. I don’t think they or you were ever the target.”

June and Sissy stared at one another. They weren’t sure what to say.

Howard said, “Billy, thank you for saving us. And can you use your magic to help me get a Mustang that I have been wanting?”

Raymond rubbed the hair of his nephew. “The magic does not work that way.”

June said, “Okay, Kyle is dead. We were supposed to make appearances with him in New York. How should we handle this?”

Billy said, “Until you are notified of his death, you continue the same as if you thought he were still alive.”

* * *

On the airplane Billy Bingo sat in the middle seat between Raymond Bing and Willow Devlin. Howard Bing sat in the middle seat between his girlfriend Sissy Devlin and June Ross.

Howard whispered to Sissy. “I sure would like us to go back to the restroom and become a member of the Mile High Club.”

June heard what Howard said, “You are gross. God, all of you men are just so nasty. I think I will become a Nun.”

Raymond laughed. “I think Nuns have more sex than I do.”

Willow asked Billy. “Are you a member of the Mile High Club?”

Billy shrugged. “Does sucking your own dick in the restroom count?”

Willow’s eyes widened. “Oh my God. You are limber enough to contortion yourself to be able to suck your own cock?”

Raymond nodded. “Well, in fairness you do not have to be that limber when you are hung like a horse.”

Howard looked around at Billy. “I think if I were a witch I probably would make my dick big enough to do that—right after I cast a spell for a new Mustang.”

Steve Webster turned from where he was seated near the front of the plane and saw Billy and Raymond. He walked back and asked the passenger seated behind Billy if he would mind swapping seats. He agreed. The Stewardess started to stop the swap but then shrugged and pretended like she didn’t see the seat swap.

Steve told Billy, “I didn’t see you on the plane. Why are you and Raymond going to New York?”

“It is complicated. I called your mom and told her some things. Has she talked to you?”

“She has been trying to talk to me but for some reason we keep getting disconnected.”

“Some witch got a serial killer released from jail and she was going to have him kill you. The killer has been stopped but the witch is still out there. I have no idea why she wants you dead. Linda and Amberline cast a spell to protect you from this witch which is why the serial killer turned against the witch instead of going after you.”

Steve said, “I would guess the witch is Alicia Silver. She is the one who killed my grandmother.”

Billy asked, “Why? Why did she kill your grandmother?”

“Mom will have to explain it to you. Like you said, it is complicated.” Steve changed the subject. Steve asked, “So are you and Raymond a couple now?”

Howard laughed. “See. I am not the only one who thought that.”

Raymond said, “That is my nephew there. I asked Billy to go with us to help protect my nephew and his friends from the serial killer they got released from prison.”

Steve noticed Willow. He asked, “Are you with them?”

“Yes. My niece dates Raymond’s Nazi Nephew.”

Howard moaned, “I am not a Nazi. That was just a phase. But come on, you have to admit Germany was totally fucked over by the Oligarchs following WWI.”

Steve laughed. “Shoot. I hated history. There is no way I could debate that with you.”

Billy asked, “So why are you going to New York?”

Steve said, “Do you remember me talking about my old girlfriend Jane Wilifar?”

Billy nodded. “Yeah.”

“Well, I am going to escort her to her brother’s wedding. She invited me.”

“So what about Bobby White? What does he think about you going to visit your old girlfriend?”

“He is going to take a job in Hotville and work with his cousin for his Uncle. He is going to be living in their mansion. I want to say that we are going to continue being whatever we are but I don’t know.” Steve thought a second. “So where are you going to be staying in New York?”

“Hutch invited us to stay at his mansion. Do you know where that is?”

“Yes. Actually, I think Jane’s mansion is not too far from there.”

Howard moaned. “So shit. Like all of you fucking assholes are rich.”

Sissy elbowed Howard. “Don’t insult the people. Be friendly with them. They might help you someday earn the money that I will so richly deserve as your wife.”

Steve said, “Billy, I thought you were all depressed and sad and moping over Rachel. Looks like you are with a fun group of people.”

Billy said, “They are totally great. However, I wouldn’t exactly call chasing a serial killer trying to kill a witch and then discovering an old friend is a vampire and also discovering another friend is in danger, fun.”

Howard again whispered to Sissy. “Come on, go with me to the restroom so we can join the Mile High Club before the plane lands.”

Willow told Billy, “What do you say you and I rush to the restroom first and you know? I seriously want to see how big your cock is?”

Billy laughed, “I am game?”

Steve said, “I hate to be a wet blanket but since 9-11 people have got into serious trouble trying to have sex in the toilet. It is really not as much fun as you might think. I tell you what is cool and that is having sex in the cockpit of a small plane.”

Billy said, “It slipped my mind that you are pilot. Why are you flying commercial?”

“Dirk’s plane was tied up and Mom’s plane was tied up and I don’t have a plane of my own. Plus I have had some financial set backs and it is cheaper to fly commercial.”

Howard asked, “So if we could come up with the money could we rent a plane and you fly us back without having to fly commercial?”

“Dirk’s plane is in New York and he is going to need it in Hotville so I was planning on flying it back to Hotville and then I was going to drive back to Atlanta. If shedules are such you all are welcome to fly with me.”

Billy asked, “So Dirk and Rachel are in Hotville?”

“No, they are in Florida but they will be in Hotville by the time I get the plane there. Dirk and his father have some clients with whom they are working out some kind of real estate deal and shit. The real estate is located in Hotville. Do you know the Sloth family?”

Billy laughed. “You know I do not know anybody. So you said that Bobby is going to be moving to and working in Hotville?”

“Yeah. I was talking to Dirk and he said that he might be able to get mom and me some contracts there. The thing is they are tied in with the Sloth family and the Sloth family and the White family do not like one another so I don’t know. Do you think I need to back off and give Bobby some space? Am I crowding him?”

Billy said, “I don’t know. I haven’t talked to him lately but I will. It is kind of like what Howard was saying earlier. Bobby and I are not rich and I can’t speak for Bobby but for myself it does sometimes make me feel inferior. So then I wonder how can I prove myself. On the one hand I know that Rachel dated Dirk first and they have a history. Still, see if I was of a mind to try to win Rachel away from Dirk, I know she is better off with him. I am a mess. Bobby may just feel like he is a mess and wants to prove some things.”

“Bobby did not react well when I was talking to Jane and when on the phone Jane asked if I was in a relationship and idiot me thought it was funny to ask Bobby if we were in a relationship. I do not know what the hell I was thinking but it hurt Bobby.”

Willow said, “It is kind of good not to race into a relationship. With my partner it was like we were having a one night stand, at least that is what I thought, and then she was living with me before I knew what the hell was happening. And I thought this feels good and feels right. I started having real feelings for her. I thought the relationship was good. Then the next thing I know she is threatening me with a palimony suit.”

Steve said, “Bobby would never do that to me. There was a period where he was something of a slacker and he might have had a little hustle in his bustle but not now. He used to joke about living off my money but when I took a hit in the stock market he very quickly started paying his own way for everything and without me even mentioning I was having problems.”

Sissy nibbled at Howard’s ear. “I am getting nervous about New York.” Sissy whispered, “I wonder if the news media now knows that Kyle Kingerstone is dead?”

Steve asked, “Who killed Kyle?”

Billy said, “The witch who was trying to get him to kill you.”

Steve said, “I would guess Alicia cast a spell to clean the crime scene before the police got there.”

Billy said, “When I first told you about things, you didn’t even believe in witches and now you seem to know things.”

“Yeah, mother has been telling me about my family history and even teaching me some things. I have some powers but nothing like you are capable of doing. Mother told me about the Legman.”

Billy nodded. “So why does this Alicia want you dead?”

“I would rather my mom talk to you about that when the time is right because there is something that you are not going to like. You have to know though that we are your friends. We think of you as family. Please do not ever doubt that.”

Billy said, “Okay. I know your mom is friends with my real mom. I trust that. I can’t imagine what you might tell me where I might doubt your friendship for even a second.”

Steve shrugged. “You will learn in time.” Steve thought back. “When you came to me and started telling me about stuff, it was hard for me to accept. Now, you are right. It is now part of who I am. I just accept that there is this totally crazy vampire witch out there who wants mom and me dead.”

Willow said, “That is scary. The first time I encountered a witch I was in college. My dorm roommate was dating a really bad ass witch. My gut told me to stay away from him but there was something about him. I was drawn to him. Then it happened. I had a three-way with him and my roommate. Having sex with him and my roommate was the first time I realized I was bisexual or lesbian or whatever you want to call it.”

Billy asked, “What was his name?”

“Kane Bishop and her name was Sylvia Trundle.”

“So you and I have had a three-way with the same couple. It is a fucking small world.”

An elderly woman walked up to Billy. “My friend and I could not help but be listening to your talking.”

Billy said, “We are just role playing. It is a game.”

The elderly woman laughed and turned back to her friend. “It is some kind of game. Role playing.”

Her friend and several people on the plane laughed. “Oh. Sure. Young people and their games.”

Olivia had called up her friend Judge Haskel to pull strings for her, but his wife’s response to the call was that if she ever called again then Olivia could expect to be killed behind bars. So Olivia had to resort to using Bug Carlisle.

Bug Carlisle first went to Detective Face. Someone had told Bug that Detective Face was the one to approach since Detective Face had been the one to work the case of Kane Bishop’s death. Bug hoped to work out a deal for Olivia by giving Detective Face evidence that Billy Bingo was the one who killed Kane Bishop. He suggested that pictures exist of Billy Bingo being at the old Harris place shortly before Kane had been electrocuted by the VCR. Detective Face responded to the information by throwing Bug out of his office. As it happened Janet Silverton and her Aunt Tess Favor were in the police station doing some unrelated research for a book that Tess was writing and Bug fell right at their feet. Angrily he had got up to leave and didn’t realize a copy of a picture he had wanted to show Detective Face had fallen out of his pocket. No one noticed the picture until Tess went to pick up her pocketbook and the picture was laying right there. On the back of the picture was written:

“Billy Bingo was at the Harris Home when Kane Bishop was electrocuted.”

Janet Silverton accessed the computer at the police station where she worked. She could find no mention of Billy in the normal databases. Her Aunt Tess mentioned a lesser known database she had seen mentioned on some hacker website. Reluctantly Janet used a backdoor to enter the database and Billy Bingo was mentioned there. That database listed Billy Bingo as a person of interest in the deaths of George Destone, Tommy Harris, Clarice Harris, and Kane Bishop. So Janet Silverton decided to follow Billy Bingo around. The problem was that Billy seemed to hardly go anywhere and the people who came and went from the Bingo home seemed perfectly law abiding people.

While she was watching Billy Bingo she decided she really liked the Minion Plex where Billy Bingo lived with his parents. An Apartment came open where she would have more space and a lower rent and so she quickly put up a deposit to rent the Apartment.

Janet continued unpacking when Lilly Coint knocked on her door. Janet opened the door.

Lilly said, “Hey neighbor, I am sorry I haven’t come to visit you sooner but I have been swamped at a new job. My name is Lilly Coint. My roommate Beth Jackson and I live upstairs from you.”

“Oh. Cool. Come on in. I’ve been sort of busy myself. I am still unpacking.”

“Have you met many people here yet.”

“No. I confess, sometimes I am rather socially backward. And speaking of socially awkward, by the way, my name is Janet Silverton.”

“So, Janet Silverton, do you have a boyfriend or girlfriend?”

Janet started to feel uncomfortable. Was this a neighbor or her Aunt Tess Favor in disguise bugging her about not having a social life? “I was joking the other night about looking for Prince Charming but I don’t know. Right now I guess I would be happy with a good fuck.”

“I do know what you mean. Sometimes I think it would be nice to meet that one special man to spend the rest of my life with, but… I don’t know. I do like good sex.”

Beth Jackson knocked on the door. Lilly screamed, “Beth, come on in.”

Beth entered the Apartment and said in a cheery, multiple syllable voice. “Hey-a-ey.”

“Hey roomy, this is Janet Silverton.”

Beth asked, “So, what are you two talking about.”

Lilly said, “Sex. Janet Silverton here isn’t getting any. Either!”

Beth said, “I wish Billy would get out of his funk over Rachel marrying Dirk. It would be so cool if we could have a three-way with him again.”

Janet asked, “Billy Bingo?”

“Yeah, do you know him?”

“I don’t know him. I think I heard someone else mention his name.” Janet looked at Lilly and then at Beth. “I think they mentioned something about him being involved in someone’s death or something.”

Lilly shrugged. “I don’t know what that would be about. Billy is cool. Sex with him was great but he was in love with Rachel and she married Dirk and so he has been in a funk.”

“So what does Billy do?”

“He hasn’t been doing anything lately but he works with Linda Webster and her son decorating and redoing homes. They do some really good work. All three of them have had some impressive reviews in various magazines.”

Beth said, “I think both Dirk and David Jenkins have offered him a job but he has turned them down. The Way family also offered him a job in New York where his sister Bess lives but he didn’t take it.”

“So what kind of job did they offer him?”

“Trouble shooting. Security. Detective work. Way different from what he does with the Websters.”

Janet laughed. “Oh, that would explain a lot.”

Lilly asked, “What?”

Janet fiddled with packing material while she was trying to think of something to say. Then she said, “I am a Police Officer and his being involved in security must be what the person I was talking with was talking about. And then I was looking at some file and…” Janet laughed. “I was thinking criminal rather than detective. Total face palm.”

Beth said, “Policewoman. Like Angie Dickinson in that old TV series. I am sure glad I didn’t invite you over to smoke pot.”

Janet frowned. “Damn. Don’t shut me out of your parties just because I have a badge.”

Lilly smiled. “No. I have a feeling we are going to be good friends. So what file were you looking at on Billy.”

“Oh, just silly shit. I should have known it was nothing since Detective Face was not interested in it.”

Lilly nodded. “Oh yeah, Billy and Detective Face and my half brother Raymond Bing, they go back. I haven’t always been that close to my half brother but from what I understand there was a rough period there. Some tragic shit went down in their childhood. Billy is younger than them but he is… I don’t know how to explain it.”

Beth said, “I think the best way to put it is that he is one of those larger than life people. He is very tough and yet there is something fragile. Like him and Rachel. I don’t know. Lilly is right. It is hard to explain.”

Lilly said, “Okay, when we first met Billy we were playing dodge ball. Grown. Not children. We were grown. But we like to play. Anyway, so Billy came over and he was sort of out of place. Socially awkward, like you mentioned you being at times. Still, he went with the flow. Anyway, then Dirk came and broke Rachel’s heart. Dirk was a total dick. None of us knew what to say to Rachel to try to make her feel better but Billy, who didn’t even know us, knew exactly how to help her.”

Janet said, “But then she went back to Dirk.”

Beth said, “Dirk is not a bad person. He was being blackmailed by Ralph Shath. And I think Billy always knew that Rachel would go back to Dirk but still Billy loves her.”

“Blackmailed?”

“Yeah, he was also going to try to blackmail Billy but that didn’t work. Billy didn’t give a fuck.”

“What was he being blackmailed about?”

“Dirk had sex with Bobby White.”

Lilly said, “I haven’t seen Bobby lately.”

Beth said, “He has moved to Hotville to work for his uncle and with his cousin. His uncle is the Mayor there.” Beth yawned. “Well, I guess we have intruded and gossiped long enough. It was good to finally meet you. And we will have to go out some time and hit the bars.”

Janet said, “Yeah. That sounds like a plan.”

After her guest had left, Janet got in the shower. “So Billy Bingo has been involved in detective work. And he also helps decorate homes. That is some more combination. He is total player; having sex with both Lilly and Beth. Yet he is capable of deep love. Interesting.”

After her shower Janet called her Aunt Tess. “Hey. I just found out that Billy may have been involved in the murders for the same reason you are involved in murders. I don’t know why that didn’t occur to us.”

Tess Favor said, “He is a writer?”

“No. He is involved in security, detective type work. The reason he has not been doing anything lately is that he is mending a broken heart.”

“Well, you know catching someone on the rebound never works out well.”

“I am not interested in trying to meet him or anything. I just thought I would catch you up on what I found out.”

Tess said, “I guess Billy must have had an interest in investigating crimes even as a child. You told me that the database showed he was a person of interest even in the murders of George Destone and Tommy Harris. He was young when those murders happened. He was hardly old enough to be a detective.”

Janet said, “If I remember what you said when I told you about that, your reaction was that he must have a person of interest as a witness and not a suspect.”

“Because of his age and what happened to him when he was young may be what caused him to become interested in becoming a detective.” Tess moaned in frustration, “Billy might still make the subject of a good story but if he did not kill Kane Bishop then I am not sure from what angle I could make the story come together.”

Janet asked, “Do you have any other story ideas?”

“A few. If you come up with anything on Billy or something else, let me know.”

“I will. Bye.”

“Bye.”

Tess Favor visited her niece Janet from Hotville. Tess sat down in the floor to help Janet sort through some of the boxes as Janet tried to decide what to unpack and what to send back with her Aunt to put in storage.

“Snooping on Billy and his parents I have felt sort of jealous.”

“How so?”

“Billy has been depressed over some girl and with my snooping I could see how his parents have worried over him. It looks like they have something special.”

Tess said, “I think you and I have something special. Have I not been a good Aunt?”

“Of course you have. Watching them caused me to wonder about my parents.”

“Your real parents or your adopted parents?”

“Both. Neither wanted me. I don’t even know why your sister, mom, wanted to adopt me.”

“Her husband at the time had some connection to your real mother. I don’t know the details. He was a biker and really sort of bad news but my sister loved him. Then he was murdered and she took up with Ned. She went from a marriage to a biker to a marriage to a missionary.”

“I think Ned hated me from the first moment he laid eyes on me. So mother put me off on you.”

“Honey, I know there were times I traveled a lot but please know I have always loved you. If not for my sister I would have loved to have adopted you and had you call me mom.”

“Are you hurt I have even thought about this? I love you like you are my mom.”

“Of course I am not hurt. It is understandable to sometimes think and wonder what if.”

“I guess. Just know that I am very grateful for what is and grateful for having you in my life. So what do you think of my place?”

“It is nice. I totally love what you have done with your boxes.”

Janet gave her Aunt Tess a slight, teasing punch to her arm. “You. You. I know. Boxes, boxes, boxes. So what do you say we leave these boxes and go sit by the pool. I will fix us drinks to take with us.”

“Ok.” Tess stood up from the floor. She walked over to the window and looked out toward the pool. “So who are those two rough housing at the diving board?”

Janet walked over to the window. “That is Frank and Maureen Bingo; Billy’s parents.”

“A lovely couple and playing like they are teenagers. Sometimes I wish I had that kind of relationship with a man.”

Janet nodded. “Tell me about it.”

“Then I think, no. I like being single.”

At the pool Maureen Bingo climbed upon her husband’s strong shoulders. They stepped upon to the diving board. Raymond Bing watched them dive. “I wish I knew where they have that fountain of youth.”

Raymond’s cell phone began to ring. “Hello.”

“Hey Raymond, this is Hutch.”

“How is it going?” Raymond took a drink of bourbon from his glass. He put out his cigarette.

“Some ways good. I think Bess and I may be getting back together.”

“Great. I am with her parents now. They are playing at the pool like teenagers and I am sitting here like an old man.”

“You really need to try to meet someone.”

“Tell me about it.”

“What about Billy?”

“You can’t be serious. He is still moping around, all depressed about Rachel and Dirk.”

“Look. Bess is working on an article where some college kids are getting a man, Kyle Kingerstone, off death row and released from jail.”

“Yeah, my nephew is one of the ones who have been working to get him released.”

“I know. I saw where Howard Bing was involved. Here is the thing. There is a chance Kyle is actually guilty. Your nephew may have just helped get a serial killer released from jail. I see where Howard is planning on coming to New York with Kyle to do interviews and such. I wanted to let you know that your nephew may be in danger.”

Raymond watched Janet Silverton and the erotic mystery writer Tess Favor walk up near him and sit at a table next to where he was seated. He smiled at them and they smiled back.

Raymond said, “Well of course I am concerned about my nephew for my half-brother’s sake but Howard and I do not exactly get along. Howard is a total racist, homophobe, little Nazi. I thought maybe he was starting to change when I heard what he was doing to get what we thought was an innocent person released from death row. Then my brother told me that Howard was only doing it because his girlfriend was involved in researching the case and he was after some pussy.”

Janet and Tess sipped on their drinks while they listened to Raymond. The volume on the phone was turned up where they could also hear Hutch.

“But you do not want your nephew killed, do you?”

“Of course not. I am sure he will someday grow out of being a dick. Most of us eventually do. So what you are saying is that I should fly to New York with my nephew and be his body guard.”

“I am agreeing with Bess on this. I think Kyle may be guilty and a dangerous psychopath. So yeah, I think your nephew needs protecting”

“Okay. I understand. I will keep in touch. Bye.”

Tess moved over to the table where Raymond was sitting. “I could not help but hear. So your friend thinks that Kyle Kingerstone is actually guilty of the killings?”

“Yeah. So I guess I will be going to New York with my nephew who totally hates me.”

Tess reached out her hand to Raymond. “My name is Tess Favor. I write erotic mysteries.”

“I recognized you. I enjoy your writings very much.” Raymond shook Tess’ hand. “My name is Raymond Bing.”

Janet moved around to sit next to her aunt. “I just recently moved in here. So you are the half brother of Lilly Coint?”

“Yeah my family is kind of weird. Our different parents got married like they were playing musical chairs or such, but I do love my siblings. We haven’t always got along but we pretty much do now.” Raymond turned and looked at Maureen and Frank smooching in the edge of the pool. “Yo love birds, do you think I can get Billy to stop feeling sorry for himself and to go with me to New York to help protect my Nazi Nephew from a serial killer.”

Frank and Maureen got out of the pool. They dried off. They then sat down at the same table with Raymond, Tess, and Janet.

Maureen said, “You can talk to him and ask him. I think he is starting to get out of his funk. Linda Webster visited him one day. I am not sure what it was about but it did seem to help Billy.”

Frank said, “Mention visiting Bess in New York and that might get him to travel with you.”

Raymond stood up. He dropped a book of matches and knelt down to pick them up. In that position he looked at Janet’s legs. He looked at her inner thigh and though her birthmark was somewhat masked with makeup he saw she had a birthmark in the shape of a dagger. It was a birthmark like Billy has and Kane Bishop has. Raymond knew that it was a birthmark common to very powerful witches. Raymond stood up and looked into Janet’s eyes. He said, “I noticed your birthmark.”

Janet laughed. “Looking at my legs, hey.” Then she said, “Yeah, it is so ugly. I try to keep makeup on it to keep it covered up.”

Frank casually leaned over to see if he could see what they were talking about. “I guess that birthmark must be kind of common. Billy has one similar. And also I once had an affair with a woman who had a beauty mark that very much resembled Billy’s birthmark.”

Maureen said, “Yeah.” Maureen shook her head. “God.”

Raymond stared at Frank. “So you tell your wife about your affairs.”

Frank said, “We no longer have affairs. We have three ways.”

Raymond laughed, “Yeah. You two never invite me to join you in the bedroom.” Raymond looked back at the two with a naughty grin as he left the pool area and walked toward the Bingo Apartment.

Maureen yelled at Raymond as he walked toward the Apartment. “We’ve thought about it.” Then Maureen looked at Janet. “I’ve noticed Billy sneaking peeks at you when you’ve been out. You are a very beautiful woman.”

Janet blushed. “He has probably seen me sneaking peeks at him as well.”

Tess laughed. “We may have to throw them a party where just maybe they will introduce themselves instead of spying on one another.”

Janet said, “Aunt! I understand Billy has been heart broken and…”

Frank said, “Yes. Over a woman. And I had about decided he was mostly into dudes.”

Maureen moaned, “Frank. You may have just killed any chance Billy had with Janet.”

Janet looked up toward the sky and laughed. “No. That does not bother me. Like James Dean was quoted as having said, why should anyone want to go through life with one arm tied behind their back? Or something similar. I mangle quotes all of the time.”

Tess nodded. “I once had sex with a woman. I really liked her but the sex was awful.”

Maureen said, “You write very beautiful lesbian sex scenes.”

“Thank you. In fantasy I totally love the idea of two women in love and making love but then when I actually tried it. Like hell. It just didn’t work for me.”

Maureen said, “When I first experimented I liked the sex but what followed was a nightmare. Then I went through a phase where I totally hated even the thought of sex with anyone. Thank God Frank and I found our way back together and I became honest with him about things.”

Tess said, “You two are a lovely couple. Playful and obviously in love.”

Janet started to mention something but then stopped. Janet agreed with her Aunt. “Yes. You two are a lovely couple and I kind of suspect that Billy and I will get to know one another.”

Frank said, “Well, you two do have matching birthmarks.”

Janet looked at her Aunt. Then she looked at Frank. “I am adopted. Is it possible that I am related to Billy.”

Frank shook his head no. “If we go back far enough we are all related but like I said that is a common birthmark.”

Maureen said, “Frank was not always so sure about that. He became paranoid that Billy had been switched with another baby in the hospital so he had a test done to prove that he is the father of Billy.”

Janet asked, “Does anyone else in either of your families have a similar birthmark?”

Maureen answered, “No. I have a birthmark on may arm that no one else in my family has.”

Tess said, “Yes. I do as well. Scientist do not believe that birthmarks are in anyway genetic. They say they are the overgrowth of melanocytes. An old wive’s tale is that birthmarks are caused by some kind of fear during the pregnancy. Some birthmarks, such as the strawberry birthmark, are more common in babies who are born premature.”

Janet shrugged. “I thought birthmarks are genetic. I guess I am wrong again.”

Frank grinned. “Hey. I thought the same thing. When I saw that birthmark on Billy it totally freaked me out.”

Tess looked at Frank with a thoughtful stare. “So your wife had a baby in the hospital at the same the woman you had an affair with was giving birth. Or am I not following what you’ve said correctly?”

Frank nodded, “Yeah. You understood my drift. If I am sounding glib now, it is really because it was so painful.”

Janet nodded. “Cover the hurt. I understand.”

Frank said, “It was perplexing when we found ourselves there at the hospital together and then she, Amberline, died in childbirth.”

Tess let out a sorrowful moan. “Oh my God.”

Frank continued, “After Amberline and the baby died, I was with her husband for I don’t know how long, trying to comfort him. It was very awkward. Thank God he didn’t know about the affair. When David was told about the death of wife and his baby he left his son in the waiting room. He ran out into the parking lot and something told me I needed to follow after him and so I did. When I reached him he had pulled a gun from beneath the seat of his car and he had put the barrel of the gun into his mouth. So I stopped him and we talked and talked.” Frank stared at his wife as she ran her finger around the tip of her glass. “The affair nearly destroyed my marriage.”

Maureen said, “The thing is that I knew he loved her. There I was with a new baby and Frank came close to having a nervous break down. Then there was the birthmark thing and Frank thought the babies had been switched.”

Tess sadly smiled. “It must have been awful and I am sorry we brought up this painful memory.”

Maureen said, “It was painful then not just because of the awful situation but because I was so naive and seriously just not thinking right. I was actually jealous that Frank consoled his own grief by consoling her husband. I didn’t know about how Frank had stopped her husband’s suicide attempt until later. Regardless I should not have been jealous. I should have been with Frank helping to console David and making sure their boy Dirk was okay.”

Frank said, “I had to do that because I felt so fucking guilty. I would like to say I helped David and Dirk because I was a good person but a large part of it was guilt.”

Maureen said, “Guilt or not, it was right thing to do. You did right.”

Janet said, “I could tell by the way the two of you having been taking care of Billy while he has been in this funk that you two are very good people. Very good parents.”

Alicia Silver, shape shifted to look like a little girl climbed out of the pool. She looked at Frank, “I couldn’t help but over hear. If you were having an affair with the woman, how would you having a paternity test prove that the babies had not switched? You could have been the father of both babies.”

With a devilish grin Alicia, as a little girl, walked from the pool area. Frank and Maureen watched the girl make her exit and then they looked at one another. Frank said, “No. Amberline said a paternity test had been done and that I was not the father of her baby.”

Maureen said, “Well, Billy is my son. My mother wanted me to have a maternity test and I told her no. If Amberline lied about you not being the father and the babies were switched at birth I don’t want to know.”

Frank looked at his wife. “Wait. So back then you wondered if the babies had been switched and you were not Billy’s mother?”

“No! My mother made an issue to point out that your paternity test did not mean the babies had not been switched if Amberline had lied. I don’t care. If Amberline had not died then I might have been concerned that Billy was her baby and not my baby. As it was, I didn’t want to know. I don’t want to know.”

Frank took Maureen in his arms. He held her close.

Maureen softly cried, “Billy is my son.”

Frank nodded. He whispered, “Yes.”

Janet said, “That was one strange little girl. She gave me the creeps.”

Tess added, “And where the hell did she come from. I didn’t see her anywhere in the pool until she climbed out of the pool.”

Frank said, “We were just swimming and I did not see her.”

Maureen puzzled. “Neither did I but she was there so she had to have gotten into the pool at some point.”

Tess looked at Janet and then quickly looked away. “Strange.”

Maureen looked at Janet and then looked at Tess. “I am so sorry we practically have been spilling our guts to the two of you. You come out to the pool for some sun and fun and listen to a soap opera. Oh God. I am sorry we rattled on. And to a writer. Some of this stuff does not need to be repeated.”

“Understood!” Tess blushed and laughed. “I have no idea why I told you all about my experiment with lesbianism. I guess we are sitting here like old friends. Now we are new friends. That is a good thing. Isn’t it?”

Frank said, “Yes. It is a good thing.” Frank held up a glass from where he and Maureen had sat with Raymond earlier. “To new friends.”

Maureen, Tess, and Janet held up their glasses. “To new friends.”

Raymond walked into Billy’s bedroom. Dressed just in boxers, Billy rested in bed watching television and laughing at the rather silly humor. Raymond said, “Janet and her Aunt Tess are at the pool with your parents.”

Billy jumped out of bed and ran to the window to look toward the pool. “I guess by the time I get to the pool Janet and her Aunt will be gone. You should have called me and tried to have kept them there.”

Raymond walked over to the window and put his arm around Billy’s shoulder. “Well, hon, you are not doing anything to try to match me up with anyone so that did not even cross my mind.”

“That Janet is one good looking woman though. Isn’t she?”

“Yes, she is but look, I have a favor to ask you.”

“Matchmaking?”

“No. Get your mind off sex.”

“What?”

“I need you to go to New York with me to make sure that my nephew does not get into any trouble. I was telling you about Kyle Kingsterone and how my nephew had helped to get him off death row.”

“Yeah.”

“Hutch called me and it seems your sister Bess has been working on the story. Bess and Hutch think that Kyle actually is a serial killer and that my nephew is in danger.”

“Fuck. A serial killer!”

“I figure the danger period is just while Howard is in New York. Now, I warn you, my nephew Howard is a total dick. Still, I would be very thankful if you would go to New York to help me protect the dumb ass.”

“Okay. I will call Detective Face and see if he can give me any background after I let him know what is going on.”

“Good.”
