Album Death To The PIXIES

Excerpts from Hearthville Serial: Envy Is A Terrible Thing

Victor turned to Jack and they continued walking to the edge of the lake. They then stepped knee deep into the cold, clear water. Victor sprawled down like a dead man floating to bathe the sand from his youthful body. Then he quickly sprang back into a standing position. Victor said, “This dihydrogen oxide is freezing.” Victor folded his arms and shivered.

Jack said, “Yeah. You did good in chemistry. Look. Victor. I know we are the kind of friends who can go bowling and barely say three words to each other. I like that we don’t have to entertain one another with brilliant conversation. I like that. But man, you should have told me about Jossette. Mom and I were visiting with Bert’s mom at the hospital when Bert and I started talking. He told me.”

Victor said, “My father knows. The rest of my family does not know.”

Excerpts from Hearthville Serial: Envy Is A Terrible Thing

Jack said, “And that is when you took the overdose of pills two years ago.”

Victor said, “That was an accident.”

Jack said, “After I talked to Bert, I talked to Sam. You had a nervous breakdown when Jossette died and I didn’t even know it. What kind of friend am I?”

“You are a good friend.” Victor began to tear up. “I loved Jossette. I still love her, and talking about her is difficult.”

Neither Jack nor Victor had noticed when Jerry walked into the water next to them. He had joined them to give Victor the comb that Victor had lost. It had fallen from Victor’s swimsuit pocket when he had tripped.

Jerry cleared his throat to let them know that he was standing with them. They looked at him and he handed Victor the lime green comb. Victor took the comb and rubbed it between his fingers as he placed it into his back pocket.

Jerry said, “I know it is none of my business but I am going to ask anyway. Am I understanding what the two of you are talking about correctly?”

Jack said, “Jossette Ogleby died.”

Excerpts from Hearthville Serial: Envy Is A Terrible Thing

Jerry said, “Fuck. How?”

Victor pictured Jossette as he had held her close. He remembered all the equipment in the hospital room. He wished for the feel of her in his arms again.

Victor grabbed his head. He said, “Man. I can’t talk about it. Please don’t have me break down crying here in public.”

Jerry saw the tears streaming down Victor’s face. He looked at Jack.

For a moment Victor relived being in the hospital room. He saw Jossette laying in that awful bed surrounded by equipment and with the oxygen hose in Jossette’s nose. He thought how she had begun to cough and struggled to breathe. Still, she had kissed him and it was a kiss he would always remember with love. He touched his finger to his lips.

Jack said, “I am sorry.”

Jack saw that Victor was starting to tremble.

Victor remembered Jossette’s words. “I love you so much. Why did I ever believe that you had stopped loving me? I am so sorry.”

Excerpts from Hearthville Serial: Envy Is A Terrible Thing

Victor said, “I don’t want to think. I’ve got to swim. I’ve got to get out of here.”

Victor remembered Jossette’s last breath. He remembered their last kiss. He remembered the look of death in her eyes.

Victor shrieked and moaned in tears as he dove into the water and started swimming. At times he swam above the water. At times he splashed the water hard with his feet as he dived into the depths of the lake. Jack and Jerry could see that Victor was swimming farther away from the shoreline and toward the more deadly clutches of the lake’s deep center.

Jerry said, “This is not good. He is upset and he is swimming toward the middle of the lake. Is he planning on drowning himself?”

Jack screamed, “Oh shit. Go get Victor’s father to get his boat. I am going to swim after Victor. Try not to alarm anyone else. This does not need to be on the 6 o’clock news.”

Excerpts from Hearthville Serial: Envy Is A Terrible Thing

Jerry ran to Elliot. He whispered in Elliot’s ear. “We need to get your boat and go after Victor.”

The past … 2015

Rachel asked Rita, “What is wrong honey? You look so sad.”

“I am confused.”

“About what?”

“My relationship with Mark.” (Mark is Steed’s first name. Steed is his middle name.)

Rita had a devilish look on her face. “I think Victor and Jossette are going to have sex but I am not sure Mark even desires me in that way.”

Rachel said, “You are all too young to even be thinking about sex. Mark is a good boy and should not have those kind of thoughts. I may need to have a talk with Jossette.”

Rita looked up at the white fluffy clouds blowing in the otherwise blue sky. She thought about the lie she was about to tell. “I walked in on Mark looking at porn. He must have those kind of thoughts.”

Rachel didn’t say anything.

Rita had been using Mark’s computer to look at gay porn. She made sure that gay porn was in Mark’s browser history.

Rita stood up and stretched about. She walked to the pool and stuck her foot in the water. “It is a little cool.” Rita walked back to the table. “I don’t like my swimsuit. Do you?”

Rachel said, “I think it is lovely. Rosanne did a fine job sewing it.”

Rita said, “Brown is not my color. I’d rather the swimsuit had been bright; maybe pink.”

“Pink is a pretty color. I saw some fabric the other day that had pink as a back color and then with colorful flowers in the foreground. It was odd but it might make a pretty swimsuit. I will suggest it to your mom the next time we are at the fabric store.”

“That would be wonderful. And perhaps buy a bikini pattern. “I would like for Mark to look at me the way he looks at Victor.”

Rachel wrinkled her nose and squinted her eyes in a puzzled look. “Girl, you say weird things. Mark looks at you plenty.” Rachel lied. “You are a very pretty girl.”

“Sometimes I wish I was a boy.”

“Dear, why is that?”

“They don’t have to worry about what their swimsuits look like. Hell, sometimes Victor and Steed swim naked without even a swimsuit on.”

Rachel took a deep breath. She rolled her eyes. She stood up.

Rita asked, “Are you fixing to jump into the pool? I will race you. I enjoy when we race even though you always win.”

“Dear. Not this morning. I am going inside to work on some things. You have fun.”

Rita smiled. “I always do.”

Mark came out of the house. He looked at his mom as she was going inside. “I came down to swim with you and Rita. Where are you going?”

“I have some work I need to do. My computer is acting up. Do you mind if I use your computer?”

“Help yourself. My password is greengrass899z.”

Rachel thought to herself, “That was too easy. He is not worried what I might see on his computer.” Rachel went on inside.

Hearthville Serial: No Condoms

Excerpt:

Mark followed his mom into his bedroom. Rita quietly followed. Mark’s mom sat down at the computer. She typed in the password. She pulled up the browser and its history. She showed Mark the browser history. “You have been looking at all this gay porn.”

“No. I have not. I have no idea where that browser history came from. Rita uses my computer. Maybe she has been looking at gay porn.”

Rita screamed, “You queer. I have not.”

Mark said, “Hey girl, I don’t know what your problem is but we are finished. I want your mom fired. I want the three of you out of here.” Mark hated what he had said the moment the words came out of his mouth. He didn’t really want Rita’s mom Rosanne or her sister Tabitha hurt. But he was angry. He was furious.

Rachel said, “You don’t control the hiring and firing around here.”

“No, but dad does and I am going to tell him about this shit. Victor had already clued me in that Rita has changed. He had told me that she had gone from that sweet shy girl I began dating to a crazy bitch. I didn’t believe him. But she had to have done this.”

Rachel pulled up a picture of Mark and Victor naked at the pool. Rachel asked, “And what about this? Do you deny this is you and Victor?”

“Sometimes we swim naked at night. It is not weird. My God, men swim naked in the US Senate Pool and no one thinks anything about it.”

Rachel screamed, “Is that what Victor told you when he was seducing you?”

“No one seduced anyone. We skinny dip. The school makes me shower naked with other guys after gym. It is not a gay thing.”

Rachel said, “It sounds gay to me. Do the coaches also make you play leapfrog naked.”

Puzzled, Mark asked, “What?”

Rachel pulled up another picture. “You and Victor played leapfrog on the diving board.”

Mark said, “Okay. We had hit your bar and were a little drunk but it is not as weird as that picture looks.” Mark looked at Rita. “You were spying on me and Victor. You took these pictures and put them on my computer and then had my mom to find them.”

“I have no idea how the pictures ended up there. Maybe Jossette took the pictures.”

Mark screamed, “I want Rosanne fired. I want Rita and Tabitha the hell out of this house.”

Rita said, “I think we should end this summer vacation and move back to your Atlanta Apartment. That way you can keep Victor and Mark apart.”

Does Amazon Have My eBook Shadow Banned???

Update:  Some people were confused when I say that the keywords on the page source show differently, depending on how you reach the page.  If you reach the page through the amazon search, the only keywords that will show on the page are the keywords that you entered in your search.  Those are the only keywords that will show in that case.  However, if you you go to the page from a general click from your website, you should see the keywords that might bring a person to your book if they use the search function on amazon.

Someone suggested that amazon might not fully show the keywords (though not suppressed within amazon search) for indie writers because they don’t want google to provide search to indie books but allow search from google to publishing house books because publishing houses might pitch a fit if they discovered their books were being suppressed from google.  In other words, maybe I am wrong and that is quite possible.  I looked over many indie books and saw their books also did not show keywords similar to the way a book from a publisher shows keywords.

Note that google does NOT necessarily care about keywords in the meta tag but searches the page for relevant words and how people link to the books also provides keywords to google.  Putting words on the page, including the title is important and I have not been doing that.  Amazon’s suppression of keywords from the pages created on the fly from their database may not mean a whole lot as far as google is concerned.

I think the suppression of keywords in the meta tag does point to the eBook is being suppressed within amazon’s system and is not about google or bing or other outside search.  But I could be wrong.  I often am.  And the truth is that I am frustrated that I can’t generate sales.

Many people say it is very difficult to generate any sales without advertising on amazon and that pushing advertisements is really what the keyword suppression is about.  Advertising on amazon is proving to be a mine field for many writers, but I am not going to go into that.  I will just say that you should use extreme caution if you decide to advertise on amazon and to watch your ad budget very carefully.

This is what keywords look like on a regular book that I have listed in the store here on sayata.net. This is not my book. It is written by someone else.  I clicked the book from here.  Note that how keywords show up on amazon to some degree depends on how you reach the page.

Now this is how the keyword search tag looks on the book “No Condoms” that I recently published.

<meta name="keywords" content="ebook,Charles Peters,No Condoms
(Hearthville Serial Book 2),Fiction / Thrillers /
Suspense,Fiction / Literary" />

These are words that I entered in the seven boxes.

“racy, small town, contemporary, scary, organized crime, love, friendship”

My words were not that great but damn. Unless someone is actually searching for my book, there is no way that anyone is going to find it.  In a different test a few weeks ago I searched for my books with “Charles Peters” which you will see in the keyword list.  None of my books showed up when I searched using my name.

So am I going to publish anything again with amazon? If I do, with the next book I may stuff words in the title to risk getting banned, but otherwise what is the fucking point. I will publish on amazon again. I will publish the next Hearthville Serial book on amazon. I will not make it exclusive to amazon. And yeah, I will put keywords in the title but hopefully not be accused of stuffing the title.

I spend money with amazon. I promote amazon. And I am treated like shit by amazon. I am sick of being treated like shit by these internet companies. Hell, if someone from this site were to buy the book, I do not even have confidence that I would get credit for the sale. Do I get credit for affiliate sales where I promote products? I don’t know.  I do think sales are correctly reported.

I know my over all internet traffic is bad.  I understand that.  And I’ve tried to use that reality to explain why I am doing so badly. But I do have some traffic. I have some fans. I just don’t know.  I am so angry right now I could chew nails, even with my bad teeth.  Maybe I am overreacting.  I just don’t know.  Maybe I will calm down and think that maybe I stand a chance of ever selling anything with amazon again and keep trying, but I doubt it. I have changed my mind.

Note that I have sold eBooks and had page reads in the past.  But not now.

I will NEVER buy ads on amazon.  That crazy shit is not happening.

Rant is almost over. But I just wanted people to see this.  And don’t tell me the search words show up differently depending on how you reach the page. I know that. But I did test with different books to see what the view source looked like. I have a pretty good idea that when I say I have been being fucked by amazon that I am probably understating the situation because I know the full history.

I do realize that amazon employees have treated other people even worse. A lot worse! That does not comfort me.

What will I do with the Hearthville Serial?

I will NOT publish the rest of it on amazon unless there are sales or page reads on the first two books.  It is that simple.  There is no point in thinking the situation will change with more books added.   Change in thought, I may very well put it on amazon because why in the hell not.  I will not make it exclusive to amazon.  I will not put it in Kindle Select/ Unlimited.  I think if I make any sales there, the sales will be correctly recorded because arbitration will not protect them from fraud charges if they are caught defrauding creators.  I realize that borrows and page reads are not correctly recorded but their user agreement pretty much has them covered on that shit.  I don’t believe the same is true for sales.
