Description
In the small town of Hearthville, out from Atlanta, Jack Minx discovered that his friend Victor Duddley had not told him about the death of Jossette Ogleby. She had died two years earlier from what authorities had thought was a simple case of botulism, food poisoning. Jossette was the former girlfriend of Victor and together they with Jossette’s mom, Terence, had made a fortune from utility as well as design patents for products they had developed together.
Victor and Jossette were sixteen when Jossette moved from Hearthville to Atlanta with her mom and her brother Roger. Victor and Jossette’s moms had decided they were too young and had caused Victor and Jossette to think that neither wanted to have anything to with the other. They did similar with Victor’s brother Stewart and and Jossette’s brother Roger. They blocked communications between the teenagers and intentionally caused hurt feelings.
Then when Jossette had become sick, Terence contacted Victor’s father. Victor’s father, Elliot, took Victor to the hospital to be with Jossette. Jack had been told how hard that Victor had taken Jossette’s death. Jack couldn’t understand why Victor had not told him about something so devastating. But then at the beach during the conversation with Victor about Jossette’s death, he very quickly understood why Victor had not told him.
