FADE IN:
EXT. SKY, AROUND LEROY BARE'S SPACESHIP - NIGHT
Bright lights flashing, colorful lights, SOUNDS OF
EXPLOSIONS, spaceships attempting to surround Leroy Bare's
spaceship. He is zapping them with bombs exploding.
His
space flies forward. Enemy Spaceships race to catch up.
INT. LEROY BARE'S SPACESHIP - NIGHT
LEROY BARE looks at his monitor to view primitive map.
BACHUS WILCOX looks at map. PROFESSOR WILCOX and MINI
WILCOX are looking out the window.
BACHUS WILCOX
That looks like a map that I drew
when I was writing something in my
journal.
MINI WILCOX
(turns from window, and
looks at monitor, map)
It does.
BACHUS WILCOX
How would you know?
MINI WILCOX
I wouldn't. I never look at your
diary.
BACHUS WILCOX
Journal.
PROFESSOR WILCOX
(joins his wife to look
at monitor)
Whatever. Leroy, why would his map
be on your monitor?
LEROY BARE
I don't know.
EXT. SKY, SUN IS RISING, A FEW CLOUDS - MORNING
Spaceships are flying. The ocean is seen beneath the sky.
EXT. HOTVILLE BEACH - MORNING
No living person is seen on the beach. A lawn chair blows
across the beach. Camera follows chair until it reaches a
dead body. Camera focuses on the body of a young man.
Focus on bullet holes. Blood. The camera moves to
the
young man's face. His dead eyes are wide open. His
mouth
is wide open. The camera moves down and then shows his
outstretched arm and then his hand and then the cane that he
is clutching.
INT. ROOM AT SEVY MOTEL - MORNING
CLAUD FELTER wakes up next to his wife SARAH FELTER. Sarah
is sleeping, snoring. Claud looks at his wife. He looks
over at the second bed in the motel room that is still made
up.
CLAUD FELTER
I wonder where Shane is?
Claud shakes his wife to wake her up.
CLAUD FELTER
Didn't Shane come back to the room
with you last night?
Sarah Felter sits up.
SARAH FELTER
No. He was winning. I was losing.
So I just left him at the Favors
Poker Room. I didn't want to keep
playing.
CLAUD FELTER
Do you think he met a girl and went
back to her place when he was
finished playing poker?
SARAH FELTER
I don't know. He was not
socializing with anyone while we
were together. But of course I am
his mother and so after I left, who
knows. He probably met someone. I
am sure he is okay.
CLAUD FELTER
I don't know. I have a bad
feeling.
SOUND OF SIRENS.
EXT. HOTVILLE BEACH - MORNING
Body laying on the beach. SHERIFF CONNIE MCIRON stands
above the body, looking down. DEPUTY SALLY FRANCIS is
squatted at the body with a flashlight. People start walking
onto the beach and to where the Sheriff's car is parked with
flashing lights. Mary Dugan, in a bikini, is standing at the
car. The Coroner Van with lights flashing pulls up on the
beach next to the Sheriff's car. Coroner, DOC JACK PERKINS,
opens the door and exits from the driver's side.
Two men
carrying a stretcher with a body bag on it get out of the
back. They walk toward the body and reach the Sheriff and
Deputy.
SHERIFF CONNIE MCIRON
Doc Jack, don't be running off with
the body. There might be someone
on the beach who knows who the
young man is. We need him
identified.
DOC JACK PERKINS
Finger prints, dental records,
police records, school records,
facebook records, twitter records,
we will identify him all right.
SHERIFF CONNIE MCIRON
Not everyone is on the grid under
the communist eyes of our prying
government.
DOC JACK PERKINS
Yeah. Well. That prying makes my
job easier.
SHERIFF CONNIE MCIRON
Your job. Hotville is not exactly
crime riddled city.
DEPUTY SALLY FRANCIS
The young woman
(looks at her e-Tablet)
Mary Dugan discovered the body on
her way for a morning swim. She
said she had seen him the day
before at the Sevy Motel where she
is staying. She can lead me to the
room but she does not know the room
number.
Coroner Tech STEVE JERGINS walks up next to Deputy Sally
Francis.
STEVE JERGINS
You smell nice today. Is that the
perfume I bought you.
DEPUTY SALLY FRANCIS
(giggles)
Yeah. I thought perfume was a nice
change from a date bringing
flowers.
SHERIFF CONNIE MCIRON
Sure. Why didn't you just come out
and tell her that she has body
oder. You asshole.
STEVE JERGINS
No. When you give someone perfume,
that does not mean that you think
they stink.
(looks and points at
body)
Say Doc Jack, doesn't the victim
have a stamp of some kind on his
hand there.
Doc Jack gets down to look at the victims hand.
INT. ROOM AT SEVY MOTEL - MORNING
CLAUD FELTER and SARAH FELTER finish getting dressed. They
look out the window toward the beach and the flashing
lights.
CLAUD FELTER
Did you murder our son last night?
SARAH FELTER
How could you ask such a question.
Are you insane? I am sure he is
okay. He probably took his
winnings and got fall down drunk
partying.
EXT. HOTVILLE BEACH - MORNING
The ghost of SHANE FELTER rises from his body. He looks
around.
SHANE FELTER
(looking down at his own
body)
How can I be dead? Who shot me?
Shane walks over to where MARY DUGAN is standing. She is
sexy in her bikini and he gives her a look over.
SHANE FELTER
God, you are so sexy, and I never
could get the nerve up to speak to
you. Now I am dead.
(looks around)
I thought when people died they
were supposed to be greeted by
loved ones who have gone to the
great beyond. What. Is this
Walmart? God done fired all of his
door greeters. Let me think.
(scratches his head)
The Wilcox family recently died.
Greet me, you fuckers. Don't leave
me standing here alone.
STEWART DUDDLEY walks up to where Mary Dugan is standing.
STEWART DUDDLEY
What is happening?
MARY DUGAN
Some young man got shot. He was
shot five times. I found his body.
It was awful. Say, aren't you
Stewart Duddley.
STEWART DUDDLEY
Yeah. Do I know you?
MARY DUGAN
Not really. I am just a fan. I am
sorry you can't play football any
more.
STEWART DUDDLEY
So you are from Hearthville?
MARY DUGAN
No. Our High Schools are rivals. I
am in college now.
STEWART DUDDLEY
Hearthville College.
MARY DUGAN
Yeah. You know, I actually do know
your brother Victor and Jossette.
STEWART DUDDLEY
How is that, that you know them.
MARY DUGAN
My mom is friends with Jossette's
mom Terence. I've been on a few
dates with Roger but I think he is
gay. I heard that you two once
kissed.
STEWART DUDDLEY
It was an accidental kiss. We are
not gay. And who in the hell would
have told you about that, any way.
SHANE FELTER
I am standing here dead and you two
are just talking, talking, talking.
And I am not even in your
conversation. You fucking,
shallow, turds.
MARY DUGAN
I am glad you are not gay. So
prove it. Ask me out on a date.
STEWART DUDDLEY
You want to go out on a date with
me. A football player who can no
longer play football. I am a
washed up loser.
MARY DUGAN
So you are gay.
STEWART DUDDLEY
No.
MARY DUGAN
Date me.
SHANE FELTER
I am dead and he is going to get
laid. This world is so god damned
cruel. Someone, just shoot me
another five times.
STEWART DUDDLEY
Okay. Do you want to go dancing
tonight. I hear the Intrique is a
cool club.
MARY DUGAN
Pick me up at seven. I am in room
301. I am here with my parents so
if we have sex it can't be in my
room.
SHANE FELTER
I've heard her say that before. To
me. But I have never talked to
her. Have I? I was at the Favors'
Poker Parlor. I was winning. Mom
was losing. And yes. That girl
was there. I think maybe we did
talk. But I can't remember.
Shane sees an aura of colors around Stewart. He notices
auras of light coming from many of the people on the beach.
But he doesn't see an aura coming from Mary Dugan. Then all
the auras vanish from the different people.
SHANE FELTER
When I was seeing auras why did
some of the people have auras and
others did not. Why did this girl
not have an aura? Stewart was all
lit up, but this girl, nothing.
That is odd. Isn't it?
INT. OGLBY HOME - LIVING ROOM - DAY
VICTOR DUDDLEY is setting with JOSSETTE OGLEBY and ROGER
OGLEBY. Victor sees an aura around Roger but he doesn't see
one around Jossette.
VICTOR DUDDLEY
So Roger, I am sorry Stewart didn't
come with me. He wanted to go to
the beach in Hotville.
ROGER OGLEBY
How long is he planning on
vacationing there?
VICTOR DUDDLEY
He reserved his room at the Sevy
Motel for a week.
JOSSETTE OGLEBY
Why isn't he staying at the
Victoria Hotel?
VICTOR DUDDLEY
We tend to like the Sevy. Mrs.
Sevy is funny and giant
corporations have no sense of
humor.
ROGER OGLEBY
(laughs)
Burn. Yeah. I like staying at the
Sevy also. But rooms at the
Victoria are nice and the maids are
sexy.
JOSSETTE OGLEBY
Hey. We know you are gay. Don't
pretend to notice sexy maids.
ROGER OGLEBY
I do like to look at sexy women.
And sexy men. Bitch, don't try to
put me in a damn box.
VICTOR DUDDLEY
Wow. I don't think I've ever
witnessed the two of you fight
before.
ROGER OGLEBY
Seriously Victor, did calling me
out for being gay and giving me a
lecture sound like Jossette. It is
like she has been replaced by some
pod person or some shit.
VICTOR DUDDLEY (V.O.)
Jossette did not have an aura when
I was seeing Roger's aura. Which
happens. True. But Roger is
right, she doesn't seem like
Jossette. And in the other
timeline when she died, we couldn't
find her soul. And now here she
is. Is she a figment without a
soul? Legacy time code? New time
code? Something Belial has
created?
JOSSETTE OGLEBY
What are you in such deep thought
about?
VICTOR DUDDLEY
Do you have a soul?
JOSSETTE OGLEBY
What a weird question? As smart as
you are, you can't be religious.
You can't really believe in God or
that there is such a thing as a
soul. No one has a soul.
VICTOR DUDDLEY
So you have never been in touch
with your higher being or your
lower being or just your being?
JOSSETTE OGLEBY
What are you talking about?
VICTOR DUDDLEY
Only people without a soul can
truly be an atheist. Because if you
have a soul, at some time or
another, you've experienced
something supernatural.
JOSSETTE OGLEBY
You are talking like my Aunt
Rachel. Are you as crazy as she
is?
VICTOR DUDDLEY
Wow. This is scary.
ROGER OGLEBY
Tell me about it. And whoever this
is, I am not so sure she is not
dangerous.
JOSSETTE OGLEBY
You two are the ones who are
dangerous, you damn religious nuts.
We are born. We die. That is it.
No one has a soul. Souls do not
exist. Trust in the science.
ROGER OGLEBY
Trust in the science. Now you are
sounding like some damn demon.
VICTOR DUDDLEY
Or worse. A democrat.
ROGER OGLEBY
Well. You two have fun. I am
getting the hell out of here. I am
going to call mom and let her know
that I am going to Hotville.
