Too much L-carnitine can increase TMAO and that is a bad thing.  High blood levels of TMAO are linked to increased risk of heart attack and stroke.  Eggs and red meat are also known to cause the liver to produce TMAO because of the stomach bacteria used to metabolize said foods.
