Bowie Maryland’s Six Flags theme park with the oldest roller coaster across all its properties is closing later this year after Six Flags Entertainment Corporation decided it is no longer “a strategic fit with the company’s long-term growth plan.

Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor in Bowie, Maryland, which rebranded and opened as a Six Flags property in 1999, will operate for the final time on Nov. 2. “Now known as Six Flags America, the park still features Wild One, which boasts a 98-foot height with an 88-foot first drop. Though modified over its long history, the classic wooden coaster has stood the test of time and continues to bring enjoyment and thrills to riders,” the club said on its website. “ACE commends Six Flags America for continued operation of Wild One with a rich history that spans over a century.”

It’s unclear what will now happen to Wild One which was built in 1917 and the park’s other rides.

The iconic, sprawling piece of wooden architecture with its long form cuts right through the center of the park. At 96 feet tall and zooming over the tracks at 45 miles per hour, this whooshy race over the rails is as classic as it gets and soon it may be gone.

BlackRock is the largest shareholder of Six Flags Entertainment Corporation (FUN), owning 14.14% of the company’s stock. Following them are The Vanguard Group. Six Flags and Cedar Fair Entertainment completed their merger July 1, 2024.

Six Flags ticket prices have increased in recent yets, including membership costs, with dynamic pricing now in effect in some parks. Specifically, in 2022, prices increased by 34%, and Dynamic pricing is now being tested at three major parks. Additionally, some grandfathered membership prices increased by $9.99 per month. For example, Gold Pass prices increased from a lower monthly rate to $9.99/month.

In 2025 Silver Pass Cost $55 to $84, the Gold Pass Cost $75 to $99 and the Prestige Pass Cost $150, depending on discounts.
