Ashton Kutcher Beats CNN on Twitter to have 1 million people following him. While they played it up between Kutcher and CNN for PR, Britney Spears is right up there with them.

Probably more impressive is the non celebs who have managed to have over 100,000 followers.

But of course the point of twitter isn't the number of followers cause whatever you post, is broadcast to the twitter search in real time, and that search is probably the most important part of Twitter. Yeah, it is nice that people click to follow you because that means what you are posting is of interest and has value at least to someone. It is cool feedback.
But if you don't have a bunch of followers, rather than feeling like posting is pointless, you have to remember you are also posting to the larger community for search.

The entertainment and information value of twitter is not the people who are following you, though that is cool, but the 140 characer "one" liners that you get from other people. New to twitter I do searches and I find a large number of people who have abandoned twitter and I guess that comes when their follower base doesn't build. But I like following the celebs and the non celebs. Where I am constantly searching the internet to try to find stuff the more mainstream media isn't reporting, it is a very good information source.

For example Pete Wentz has posted that the Never Die Tour has been banned by Boca Raton.

Ellen Degeneres and/or her people have started posting more text on what she and her show is up to.

I first learned about the Amazon temporary "glitch" discriminating against the alternative life style community from Twitter.

BJMendelson post good info and links on twitter, cancer, and other topics. He has over 342,510 followers.

Telescopes_ post a lot of good info and links on our space program. Totally cool.

ben_cusak post a lot of cool text with humor.

There are a lot of other interesting people there but can't name them all.

Twitter is a gold mine / mind of people and information.
