Fox News Talking Dork Says Media Has Right to Lead Lynch Mob
Okay, he didn't put it in those words.
What he did say is that the media has no obligation to presume anyone innocent in their reporting. That the presumption of innocense is only for the courtroom.
The trouble is, the media does not stick to known facts. They inject misleading opinion to the point that their obvious purpose is to inflame the public against a suspect so that there is no way that there is any presumption of innocense in the courtroom.
Rebel rousing and inflaming "lynch mobs" is a crime and it is about time when a person in the media or a person from a prosecutors office crosses that line that they be prosecuted for obstruction of justice and other charges.
I believe very strongly in free speech. I believe very strongly in a free press. But when the press basically is a propaganda tool of a corrupt government trying to use the courtroom for a lynching, then let us not pretend that we have a free press.
I don't really get the public appetite to watch inflammatory shows against a suspect. I don't understand the desire of anyone to want to sit in judgement of anyone, especially when there is no way they know all the facts or are in anyway qualified.
A suspect has the right to face their accusers. I don't think the public has the right to know the name of the accused. I think justice would be more blind and more honest if the neither the media nor the jury was told the actually idenity of any suspect until the trial is over.
While the media has the right to spy and snoop, I think when the police and prosecutors release too much information to the press so as to attempt to try their case in the court of public opinion before it ever reaches trial, that is wrong.
___
Why in the world is it acceptable behavior for the media to use murder cases for entertainment?????? Why is our court system allowed to be reduced to the level of some bad reality TV show or some bitchy talent show.
___
Why in the world should I want the media to spew enough vile to cause me to hate some stranger or for that matter even weep for some stranger called victim. That is not entertainment.
___
I love fiction and mystery that is fiction. But actual crime cases not yet settled; to me that is not entertainment.
