Atlanta Jobless Rate climbs to 6.5%
The state's rate is also 6.5%. Unemployment has climbed 44% from last year. Some expect Georgia's unemployment rate to climb to 10%. If you include the homeless and others who are disfranchised, the true rate will probably approach a level not seen since the Great Depression.
One problem the state of Georgia has that other states are not afflicted with is that we have people running our state, our counties, and our cities who are largely too stuborn or in some cases just too stupid to get Federal Funds. We have a class of citizens who look at certain Jobs as just not pretty or sexy enough for where they live. And God knows that their children are just too special to work in a factory.
And oh my God, build a new road. "Not through my neighborhood."
People who move to our state generally want growth to include them but no one else.
And their cure for poverty is to tear down slums. Apparently if poor people have no place to live they will suddenly come into money.
