Georgia is dead last in financial security

The report reflected the devastating blows that have struck a state where unemployment exceeds the national average and major economic engines -- real estate, banking and home construction -- aren't firing on all cylinders. The state ranked in the bottom fifth of states in several categories: poverty-level income (42nd in the country), bankruptcies (50th), poor credit (48th), overdue debt (48th), and households with neither a savings nor a checking account (49th).

Georgia households' average net worth of $48,425 fell far below the national average of $70,600 -- yet one more indicator that even amid signs of an economic rebound, many Georgians' finances are precarious.

Not really a shocker.

There was a time people who came to Georgia didn't mind a cut in income because the cost of living was lower. Plus they felt their savings would go further, so when they first came they felt well off compared to others. What they don't consider is the lack of job stability, hidden cost they don't fully realize, and the simple fact it doesn't take long to be pulled down in the Southern Quagmire. It is easier to get here than to get out of here because there is such a stigma associated with Georgia at this point. I say this as someone who was born in Georgia and lives in Georgia and loves Georgia; but the elite media puts so much misinformation out about Georgia and the South, in some cases it is hard to get past it.

For example some asshole on one of the cable stations referred to a section of Florida as Cracker alley "just like Georgia." It is was an insult to Florida. It was insult to Georgia. Yet the son of a bitch didn't get fired. If he had been that derogatory toward most any other group his ass would have been hitting the asphalt before he finished the statement.

Someone from up North may come to Georgia thinking they are hot stuff. Then two years later they have a bit of a Southern drawl, use Southern expressions without even thinking about it, and the next thing they know they are facing a 40% reduction in income. Slight exaggeration. :)

The South was making inroads at one point and then something happened. Maybe the bad rap has been partially deserved, but stereotypes are what they are: some reality but mostly bullshit.

Still, if you are from the South, as I am, I suggest you teach your child to fake a Non-Southern accent when on a job interview. I recommend a British or German accent. LOL

IIIIIIII don't knooooooooooooow. If you have a different opinion that is cool.
