Self-Improvement and Educational

Power of Concentration

Reviewer:

This book outdoes several others I've read by leading authors (which
I will not name). For nonfiction to grab me like this is incredible.
That concentration accomplishes so much more than I ever suspected
is a big surprise to me. Theron's approach would appeal to actors,
leaders of any variety, spiritualists, psychologists and students,
physicians, and anyone who seeks the path to intensive self-improvement.

But its title simplifies its scope, which encompasses poise, dynamism,
leadership, mental power, and on and on. I believe this author has
surpassed these other famous current authors, and because of his
time period, I feel that he must have been enlightened.

I must confess I do not have very good concentration. Often, to
figure something out I have to distract myself with a 2nd project.
I am the kind of person who would do my math homework while taking
notes in English Class.. But on the other hand if I get distracted
where I have to simply break away from either project; it way slows
me down and I am prone to screw up.

I have trouble working when there is total silence. I need noise.
I need distraction.

I am not a focused person and I guess that has hurt me

Good for even experience developers, July 3, 2007

By Mark A. Franjione "franji1" (the mountains of East Tennessee,
USA) - See all my reviews

I've been programming C++ for 12+ years now (C for 23+),
and I was hoping Deitel had a Developer Series book for Java (like they
have for C#), but there currently is not one.

However, that did not deter me from purchasing their "How
to Program" book, and it has been worth it. If you are an experienced
developer, this book still contains good info, with great examples,
is up-to-date with the latest Java language enhancements.

If you're one of those people who judge a book by the
inverse proportion of the number of pages, please rethink your view.
Sure, this book is big, but it shows all you need to know, which is
great if you are new to programming, and is a minor hassle if you are
not.

Colorized code helps greatly (like your IDE). It gets
into language syntax/semantics but also the various java import libraries
- graphics, database, et. al.

The Software Engineering tips are always "right on".
