Georgia jobless benefits among briefest in nation

More than 190,000 Georgians stand to lose anywhere from $260 to $1,820 in benefits as a result of a change in the state law, the nonprofit Georgia Budget and Policy Institute estimates. After July, the number of weeks an unemployed person can draw unemployment will be reduced from 26 weeks to 14 to 20 weeks depending on the unemployment rate; with the lower the rate that the fewer number of weeks a person may receive payments.

Twitter Files Anti-Spam Lawsuits

Twitter took a new step in its fight against spammers on Thursday, filing a lawsuit in a San Francisco federal court against companies that create tools to automate posting to and following people on Twitter.

The suit names five defendants: TweetAttacks, TweetAdder, TweetBuddy, James Lucero and Garland Harris — which Twitter claims are the biggest offenders in the Twitter spamming racket — arguing they are the arms dealers to those who fill the service with fake profiles and unwanted @ messages.

Security-wise, Internet Explorer 10 will include a new Enhanced Protected Mode. Protected Mode is the name Microsoft gives to its sandboxing technique. The current version, introduced in Internet Explorer 7 on Windows Vista, creates a separate, low-privilege process for running JavaScript and rendering HTML. This low-privilege process has no write access to most of the file system. This means that even if there is a security flaw in the browser, the attacker cannot write malware to the hard disk.

ECB hands out $712 billion in loans to banks

FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — The European Central Bank handed out euro529.5 billion ($712.4 billion) in low-interest loans to banks in the second round of a massive credit infusion that has been credited with easing the eurozone debt crisis.

Safety Alerts Cite Cholesterol Drugs’ Side Effects

Federal health officials on Tuesday added new safety alerts to the prescribing information for statins, the cholesterol-reducing medications that are among the most widely prescribed drugs in the world, citing rare risks of memory loss, diabetes and muscle pain.

Among the drugs affected are huge sellers like Lipitor, Zocor, Crestor and Vytorin.

- Yahoo is focusing on 10 to 20 patents. These include technologies directly related to advertising, messaging and social networking. Interpol accused after Saudi Arabia arrests journalist over Muhammad tweet

Saudi Arabia is reported to have used Interpol's "red notice" system to locate and arrest journalist Hamza Kashgari, 23, over tweets perceived as an insult to the Prophet Muhammad.

As an aside: Kashgari's Twitter account appears to have been deleted or otherwise closed.
