EXT. I-285 - DAY

COACH PAUL BLOOM is inside his 1976 Black Tran Am. He is
driving through Atlanta on his way to the College Town of
Hotville. A sign signals a lane change ahead for those who
wish to exit on to I-20.

GPS DEVICE (O.S.)
Exit East Toward I-20

COACH PAUL BLOOM (O.S.)
I must be crazy taking this job at
Hotville College.

GPS DEVICE (O.S.)
Did not understand command.

The 1976 Black Trans Am exits on to ramp toward I-20. A Pink
Volkswagen on I-20 pulls into lane at the same time Coach
Paul Bloom starts into lane. He glances at the woman. He
does not know ELVIRA DAVIS but that is the driver of
Volkswagen. He flips her the bird. Her expression is a
laugh and she speeds ahead.

ELVIRA DAVIS (V.O)
(Laughing)
I can’t believe Sarah is going to
marry that man. A man! My word.

EXT. COACH PAUL BLOOM’S NEW HOME - DAY

COACH PAUL BLOOM pulls into his driveway behind the moving
truck. He ogles the two handsome deliverymen moving his
furniture and boxes into his new home. He walks to the back
of his car and opens his trunk. He pulls a beer from a
cooler in his truck. He opens the beer and starts to
drink. He then thumbs through a box in the trunk.

He pulls a picture from the box and looks at it. The
picture is a photograph of his former lover Oscar Crumbe.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
Oscar, the world does not revolve
around you. Not anymore.
(Coach shakes his head)
Still, here I am looking at a
picture of you so...
(His lips tremble. He rubs his
brow.)

COACH PAUL BLOOM (cont’d)
So I am already missing you. God
damn it. I am already missing you.

Coach Paul looks up from the pictures and sees the Pink
Volkswagen driven by Elvira Davis drive slowly in front of
his house. Elvira makes a gesture with her finger like she
is shooting him. She laughs. She hits the gas and speeds
on.

COACH PAUL BLOOM (cont’d)
Who the hell is that woman?

One of the moving men walks up with a piece of paper for
Coach Paul to sign. He signs it without much paying
attention to what he is signing. The moving man walks away.

Coach Paul puts the picture of Oscar back in the box. He
finishes his beer. He tosses the can in his boot. He picks
up the box and closes the boot. He walks up to the door of
his house.

INT. COACH PAUL’S HOUSE - DAY

Maneuvering the box in his arms he enters the door into his
house. COACH PAUL stares at all the furniture tossed every
which of way. He stares at some boxes stacked and other
boxes turned over and with stuff strewn. He puts the box he
is holding down on the floor.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
(with sound of truck cranking)
What the fucking hell? Son of a
bitch. What a damn mess.

Coach Paul looks out the window.

EXT. COACH PAUL’S YARD - DAY

The moving truck is backing around Coach Paul’s Trans Am and
through a flower garden and over some shrubbery and knocking
down the mail box. A woman, Tess Fletcher, is standing with
her bicycle and looking flabbergasted. She looks up to see
Coach Paul looking out his window. She smiles. She
waves. She then shrugs with a what are you going to do
gesture.

Coach Paul walks out on his porch. He rushes after the truck
but they are on their way to the corner to make their turn
and to become out of sight. Coach Paul looks at Tess
Fletcher.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
A mess out here. A mess in my
house. Unbelievable. I can’t
believe my fiancee recommended
them.

TESS FLETCHER
(smiles)
Just the thought of moving gives me
a shiver.
(does a shivering gesture)
I moved here five years ago from
Atlanta to teach at the local
Hotville College. Back then I had
so few items I moved myself.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
That was smart of you. My fiancee
Sarah Sloth insisted I should use
these movers that a friend of hers
strongly recommended.

TESS FLETCHER
Oh Sarah. A lovely girl.
Congratulations.

(V.O.)
I thought Sarah was a lesbian.

A lovely girl. So where did the
two of you meet?

COACH PAUL BLOOM
She was a temporary teacher at the
college in California where I was
coaching at the time.

TESS FLETCHER
So you are going to be the new
coach at Hotville
College. Wonderful. So wonderful
to meet you.

Tess Fletcher and Coach Paul shake hands.

was so glad when I heard they were
going to be hiring someone new and
the programs were going to survive.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
Sarah convinced me to come to
Hotville but if I had known their
sports programs were so tenuous I
probably would have remained where
I was.

Tess crawls onto her bicycle.

TESS FLETCHER
Well, I need to meet with Sheriff
Baskerville before he leaves for
the day. It has been nice meeting
you.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
Same here. And please don’t be
offended by my question but aren’t
you the one and same Tess Fletcher
who writes Erotic Mysteries.

TESS FLETCHER
Yes. My claim to fame and shame.

Tess Fletcher rides off on her bicycle.

EXT. BROKER LANE - DAY

ELVIRA DAVIS is standing with the moving truck. She is
talking to the two men who moved Coach Paul Bloom. She
hands each of them a check. They get into the moving truck
and drive off. She gets into her pink Volkswagen and drives
off.

INT. COACH PAULS HOUSE - NIGHT

The house is partially arranged from the mess earlier. The
turned over boxes can no longer be seen. Several boxes can
be seen sitting around. Coach Paul sits down on a red
couch. He places a drink and a TV dinner on a coffee table
in front of the couch. He looks at the box next to the
coffee table. He pulls the picture of Oscar he had looked
at earlier from the box. He stares at the picture.

INT. PAUL & OSCARS APT. IN CALIFORNIA - FLASHBACK

OSCAR CRUMBE
You are breaking up with me. You
are going from Coaching at a real
college to coaching at some hick
college in Georgia. Have you lost
your mind?

COACH PAUL BLOOM
I will be the Head Coach at
Hotville College. I am just a lowly
assistant here and it is clear that
is all that I will ever be if I
stay here.

OSCAR CRUMBE
Are they holding you back because
the Head Coach knows that you are
gay.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
I don’t know. Maybe.

OSCAR CRUMBE
(frowns)
You blame me for telling
him. Don’t you!

COACH PAUL BLOOM
No. You should not have
propositioned him, but no. Of
course I don’t blame you.

OSCAR CRUMBE
Please do not move to Georgia. I
love you. Damn it. I love
you. There! I have said it.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
Love me. You say that, but you
don’t even try to remain faithful
to me.

OSCAR CRUMBE
Do you want me to be faithful? I
can be faithful. By fucking God I
will take a vow and swear on a
Chastity Belt if that is what it
takes to keep you here.

(CONTINUED)

CONTINUED: 6.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
I am not faithful to you
either. I’ve had sex with other
people. I’ve even had sex with
women

OSCAR CRUMBE
Women! What? Now are you going to
tell me that you are straight.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
Maybe I am. I think I might would
like to get married to a woman and
maybe have some children. I think
I might would like to live a more
normal life.

OSCAR CRUMBE
Normal life? So you think living
with me is not
normal. Hell. Fuck. Fire. You
have gone from being gay, to
straight, to now being a fucking
homophobe. My God, I have been
letting a homophobe suck my
cock. I guess I should think my
lucky stars you didn’t try to bite
my cock off.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
Oh shut up. Just shut up. I can’t
stand hearing your voice one second
longer. In the last few months you
have been driving me fucking
insane. When you have been out
fucking with some dude from the bar
and you call home late I’ve
actually started hoping it is not
you but some police telling me that
you have been killed.

Screaming in tears Oscar Crumbe falls onto the floor.

INT. COACH PAUL’S HOUSE - NIGHT

COACH PAUL stares at the picture of Oscar.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
(speaking to himself out loud)
God, Oscar, I wish I had not broken
your heart.

Coach Paul Bloom had not noticed a neighbor, JENNA SMYTHE
had entered his home. She is holding a pie she has brought
over.

JENNA SMYTHE
Howdy neighbor, thought I’d bring
you something good to eat.

Jenna Smythe places the pie down on the coffee table. She
sits down next to Coach Paul on the couch. She looks at the
picture of Oscar.

JENNA SMYTHE
(laughs)
An x boyfriend?

Coach Paul puts the picture back in the box.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
What? No. He was a friend. I slept
with his wife. It broke his heart.

JENNA SMYTHE
Quick on your feet with lies. I
like that.

Jenna pulls some plastic silverware and a bottle of wine
from her pocketbook. She then pulls some glasses and
saucers from her pocketbook.

JENNA SMYTHE (cont’d)
I didn’t know how quickly you would
be ready for company. I am
impressed. I understand from Tess
that your movers left quite a mess.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
It was not quite the mess I thought
at the time; but I have been busy.

JENNA SMYTHE
Tess also told me that you are
engaged to Sarah Sloth. She is a
lovely girl. Just lovely.
(beat)
So does Sarah know that you are
gay? (She picks the picture of
Oscar up, glances at it, and then
puts it back into the box.)

Coach Paul takes a bite of the pie.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
This pie taste really good.

JENNA SMYTHE
Imagine how it will taste when you
lick it off my naked body.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
That is not going to happen.

Jenna grabs Paul by his shirt collar. She pulls his face
into her face.

JENNA SMYTHE
We are going to have sex and you
are going to like it. When you see
me naked, you will understand why.

Jenna Smythe lets go of Coach Paul. She pulls a cd player
from her pocketbook. To music, she does a strip
tease. Amused, Coach Paul sits back and watches. Then he
looks shocked.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
You are a man. You are a
transvestite.

JENNA SMYTHE
You keep my secret and I will keep
your secret. Now, lets you and me
suck and fuck.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
No.

JENNA SMYTHE
Please. Pretty Please. You know
you want to have sex with me. I
know you do. I can see that you
have an erection.

EXT. SUNDECK OF COACH PAUL’S HOME - DAY

COACH PAUL BLOOM is grilling some Hamburgers while his
fiance SARAH SLOTH is in a lounge chair and sunning.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
I am nervous about my first day
tomorrow at Hotville College. This
is such a small town. Back at my
old job, where I was a lowly
assistant coach, there was
something comforting in that most
people I dealt with barely even
remembered me from one day to the
next.

SARAH SLOTH
It will be okay. For the most part
people are nice. Of course you
will most likely encounter some
assholes.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
There was this one woman. She was
driving a pink Volkswagen. First
she and I nearly wrecked on
I-20. Then she drove by here and
pointed her finger at me like she
was shooting me.

SARAH SLOTH
That is my girlfriend Elvira. She
is really pissed that you and I
intend to get married.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
Did you breakup with her?

SARAH SLOTH
No. She and I had sex last night.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
Sex.

SARAH SLOTH
Are you angry?

COACH PAUL BLOOM
No. Of course not. We have an
open relationship and we each

should be able to tell each other
about anything.

SARAH SLOTH
I wish Elvira better understood
that, but she insist on being
jealous.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
I guess I need to work on Elvira
and I becoming friends.

SARAH SLOTH
Elvira is not exactly the friendly
type. There was a time she and I
hated one another. She was older
than my cousin Jeremy but she dated
him and treated him really badly.
At the time I could not understand
why Jeremy was so fond of her and
now here I am in love with her.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
So what does your cousin Jeremy
think of your relationship with his
old girlfriend.

SARAH SLOTH
When Jeremy was 21 he was
kidnapped. My father paid a
million dollar ransom, but Jeremy
wasn’t released. His corpse,
remains, have never been found but
I guess he is dead.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
I am sorry.

SARAH SLOTH
It was awful.
(beat)
There is a teacher at the college
who reminds me of Jeremy. Her name
is Jenna Smythe. The first time I
saw her, it gave me chills. Father
says if you go back far enough
everyone is related but he said as
far he knows we and Jenna Smythe
aren’t closely related. There is a
strong, uncanny, resemblance.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
Maybe your Uncle, Jeremy’s father,
did some fooling around.

SARAH SLOTH
Anything is possible but Uncle
John, Jeremy’s father, is deeply
religious. I guess he is okay, but
of course he would never approve of
you or me if he knew the real us.

Coach Paul Bloom puts the hamburgers on a plate and carries
them to the picnic table where he has already set things up
for them to dine. Sarah gets up and walks over to the picnic
table. They sit down to eat.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
I hope you are not going to be
angry about this but Jenna and I
had sex.

SARAH SLOTH
You had sex with another woman.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
Not exactly.

SARAH SLOTH
What do you mean, not exactly?

COACH PAUL BLOOM
Jenna Smythe is a dude.

SARAH SLOTH
She is a dude. Fucking hell. On
some level I knew. Shit hell. I
knew it. But then I thought it was
stupid.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
Please do not be angry. I am
sorry. I don’t think Jenna will
tell anyone. I think our secret is
safe. That is if we keep her
secret.

SARAH SLOTH
I am not angry. Yeah, I want you
to stay discreet but I am not angry
about you having sex with
Jenna. (beat) Don’t you

right. I just never put it
together. Not fully.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
I don’t understand.

SARAH SLOTH
Jenna Smythe is my cousin Jeremy
Sloth. I am going to confront
him. By God I want to know what
happened to that $1,000,000 that my
father paid as ransom for his safe
return.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
If you confront him or tell people
who he is then he might tell people
that I am gay. Your parents will
not like that you are marrying a
gay man.

SARAH SLOTH
Damn. He and I are constantly
passing in the halls and in the
lounge and he acts like we don’t
even know one another. I fucking
loved my cousin. I cried and cried
when I thought he had been killed.

Coach Paul and Sarah Sloth eat in silence.

INT. LIBRARY - DAY

TESS FLETCHER and SHERIFF BASKERVILLE sit at a table going
over old newspaper clippings and also a folder with police
records.

TESS FLETCHER
I sure am glad you agreed to help
me research the book I am working

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
Well, you know how much I like your
muffins.

TESS FLETCHER

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
Right now I am feeling more hungry
than horny. (beat) So what do you
hope to find out about the
kidnapping of Jeremy Sloth.

TESS FLETCHER
I am not sure. The old Sheriff
Barker thought the kidnapping was a
ruse created by the Sloth family to
cover up Jeremy’s murder. Sarah
and Jeremy had a serious fight in
front of witnesses a couple of days
before the kidnapping.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
You can’t seriously think that
Sarah killed Jeremy. I grew up in
this town. I remember Jeremy and
Sarah. Sure they would have their
fights but they were as close as
siblings.

TESS FLETCHER
Cain and Abel maybe.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
No. Tess. I think you are all
wrong about this.

TESS FLETCHER
In this interview Sheriff Barker
had with Mikey White he said that
he overheard them fighting about
someone. They were both dating the
same person. He didn’t know who.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
I’ve heard the rumors that Sarah is
gay but back then the only person I
remember Sarah dating was myself
and Mikey White. I sure as heck
was not dating Jeremy. Why would
Mikey say what he said if he was
the one dating both of them?

TESS FLETCHER
Sure. Why not? It throws
suspicion away from himself. Mikey
does own that Gay Bar the Red Hank
Fight Club. Even though I think
Sarah is gay it could have been
Mikey they were both dating. Do

TESS FLETCHER (cont’d)
you remember who Jeremy might have
been dating?

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
Even though Elvira was a couple of years
older, Jeremy dated her. He also
dated her sister Majara. And he
was best friends with their brother
O’Hara. He was close to the Davis
family. You know, it was Jeremy
who first began playing tennis with
Elvira. When he saw how good she
was, he hired her a coach. Even
though he was younger than her, he
was like a mentor to her.

TESS FLETCHER
I feel more confident than ever
that Jeremy was murdered. I think
Sheriff Barker was right. The
kidnapping was just a ruse to
protect Sarah.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
Well, a million dollar ransom was
paid.

TESS FLETCHER
If I could prove what happened to
the money that would be a starting
point. I mean, they could have
pulled the money out of the
accounts. Handed the money off to
someone. Then they could have just
moved the money back into some
other account. As rich as the
Sloth family is, that would
probably be simple for them to do.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
You are wrong. It was a real
kidnapping. Elvira saw two men
abduct Jeremy right outside of
their home. Elvira owed a lot to
Jeremy for helping her. She would
not lie to protect his killers.

TESS FLETCHER
O’Hara told me that Elvira was
wrong about what she told Sheriff
Barker. He said that what she saw was just a couple of
friends picking Jeremy up. That was

two days before the supposed
kidnapping. Mikey White said he
saw Jeremy at the Grocery Store and
perfectly okay the day after when
Elvira said she saw him kidnapped.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
One or both of them had their days
wrong.

TESS FLETCHER
So why didn’t Elvira report the
kidnapping when she saw it.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
Because at the time she did think
it was just a couple of friends
picking Jeremy up. It wasn’t until
after the ransom note that she
realized what she had witnessed.

TESS FLETCHER
I guess I need to talk to Elvira.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
Good luck with that. She always
has been an unfriendly cuss.

INT. COACH PAUL’S HOUSE - DAY

Coach Paul and Sarah Sloth are in the Coach Paul’s bedroom,
dressing to go to church.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
I can’t believe I’ve agreed to go
to church with you. I have not
been to church in years.

SARAH SLOTH
What religion are you?

COACH PAUL BLOOM

some kind of problem at his church
and we need to go to show him our
support.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
What kind of trouble can there be
at a church?

SARAH SLOTH
Mikey White and his father, you
know the Mayor, are Deacons at the
church and they are trying to have
my Uncle fired. They are
threatening the other Deacons,
suggesting they will have the
church removed from the PigPath
Denomination if my Uncle is not
fired. My Aunt Gladys sometimes
Preaches at the church and they are
saying women should not be allowed
to Preach, even on a fill in basis.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
Is she ordained?

SARAH SLOTH
Not by a group that the PigPath
Convention recognizes. They don’t
allow women Preachers. Other
Baptist Denominations do allow
Women Pastors. My Uncle’s position
has changed on the subject but when
he brought the church into the
Pigpath Convention, he pretty much
agreed with the narrow minded views
of the Convention. He is the
founder of the Church and now they
are trying to take the Church away
from him.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
So can’t he just change the
Convention the Church is in.

SARAH SLOTH
Dad told me that Uncle John wants
to take the Church
Independent. Even the Deacons who
are trying to support Uncle John
are uncomfortable with that. They
say it will make the church seem
less legitimate.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
I am not an expert on this,
obviously. At one time Oscar was a
major church goer.

As Sarah is putting on a necklace, she gives Paul an are you
kidding look.

COACH PAUL BLOOM (cont’d)
I know. Go figure. Anyway, the
Baptist church he went to belonged
to some Convention that accepted
pretty much any church, including
Gay Churches. The Convention
pretty much served one purpose and
that was to support diverse
religious voice.

SARAH SLOTH
I can’t imagine my Uncle bringing
the church into a convention that
recognizes Gay Churches! I can’t
really see that happening. Even if
he were of such a mind, the
Congregation would have a
fit. These are basically good
people but they are pretty much set
in their ways. We have to respect
that.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
I don’t have to respect anything
though I will play nice. I will
not make waves.

SARAH SLOTH
My father wants you to become a
regular church goer and become a
Deacon at the Church.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
Seriously. You think I can do that
without me suddenly talking in
tongues and my head exploding and
my Mom’s Priest doing an exorcism
on my dead body.

SARAH SLOTH
I want to stay rich and that means
keeping my parents happy. You do
understand that. Don’t you?

COACH PAUL BLOOM
I understand. But you do
understand that it was with great
reluctance I left California to
come back to Georgia.

SARAH SLOTH
Are you saying that you want to
back out of this marriage?

COACH PAUL BLOOM
No. But it is not because of the
money. It is not because the
marriage might help my career. When
we were dating in California I
developed real feelings for you.

SARAH SLOTH
And I love you. The love is real.

Coach Paul Bloom and Sarah Sloth kiss. It is a tender kiss
with a display of true affection.

COACH PAUL BLOOM (V.O.)
I miss Oscar but I do love Sarah.

SARAH SLOTH (V.O)
I am so confused. How can I love
both Elvira and Paul?

EXT. PARKING LOT OF CHURCH - DAY

COACH PAUL and SARAH SLOTH drive up in Paul’s black 1976
Trans Am. They pull into a parking space next to Sarah’s
father’s 2012 Cadillac. Dressed in expensive clothes, they
exit the Trans Am. Standing, near the streaming moat that
flows around the church and near the garden around the
church, are various people who all seem to fix their eyes on
the parking lot and on Sarah Sloth and Coach Paul.

Coach Paul stares at the people and the beautiful garden and
the church. It has both a larger than life and yet still a
small town feel to it.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
Who designed this. It is
beautiful.

SARAH SLOTH
My Uncle and Jeremy. Jeremy did
paintings that inspired my Uncle
with the design.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
Jenna Smythe painted this?

SARAH SLOTH
If Jenna and Jeremy are one and the
same. Yes.

Sarah Sloth and Coach Paul walk up to her father, JOSEPH
SLOTH.

JOSEPH SLOTH
Hello dear. I am glad you
came. My brother is in a
mess. You know he almost never
drinks. Well. Today he has been
drinking. He insist he is going to
Preach today.

SARAH SLOTH
Aunt Gladys can’t talk him out of
it.

JOSEPH SLOTH
No. She is just sitting like she
is oblivious to it all.
(Looks around. Shakes his
head.)
I would seriously like to hire
someone to break Mayor White’s legs
for starting this shit.

SYLVIA SLOTH walks up. She kisses her daughter on the cheek.
She looks Coach Paul Bloom up and down with a rather
disgusted look.

SYLVIA SLOTH
So Paul, I guess after today you
will have even a lower opinion of
us small town hicks.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
I don’t really think of anyone,
well maybe myself, as a hick. I
grew up in Georgia, myself.

SYLVIA SLOTH
Your father being a football player
for the Falconians, I would guess
you are well traveled.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
I’ve seen enough people in
different places to not really be
shocked by anything.

          CONTINUED: 12.

SYLVIA SLOTH
(laughs)
Well, dear, let us go inside.

They walk across a beautifully carved bridge over the
streaming water in the moat. Coach Paul looks down at the
gold fish in the moat.

INT. CHURCH - DAY

Joseph Sloth, Sarah Sloth, SYLVIA SLOTH, and COACH PAUL walk
down the aisle of the church and sit toward the front of the
church. They look at PREACHER JOHN SLOTH standing at the
pulpit. He takes a gulp of moonshine from a jug as he gets
ready to speak. Other people filter into the church and sit
down.

JOHN SLOTH
(pounds his fist on the
podium.)
So Mayor White and his son Mikey
White want to fire me from this
church that I founded nearly 30
years ago. After the fire my 14
year old son Jeremy designed the
church where you now sit. We
designed the beautiful grounds.

MAYOR WHITE stands up and looks around at the people.

MAYOR KEITH WHITE
It is not us who want to fire
you. You have broken the rules of
the Pigpath Convention.

JOHN SLOTH
Sit your ass down and shut the fuck
up.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
(whispers)
Your Uncle, the Preacher, just said
fuck.

MAYOR KEITH WHITE
All you have to do is...

JOHN SLOTH
Yeah, see, the Mayor does not want
you to know the truth of what is
happening. And he thinks that I am
too ashamed of certain things to

tell you the truth of what is
happening.
(beat)
The Mayor and his son are
blackmailing me. They want me to
resign both from the church here
and also from the board of Hotville
College.
(beat)
See, here is the thing. At the
same time my wife was pregnant with
Jeremy, another woman was pregnant
with my other son. I never got to
know that son because he was given
up for adoption.
(takes a drink from the jug)
Now you may think because of my
sins that I am not worthy to Preach
here. Understand though, I don’t
Preach to sanctimonious assholes
like the White family. I Preach to
fellow sinners who don’t pretend
they are perfect.
(beat)
I want everyone in this church who
is not perfect to stand up. Come
on. Stand up.

Everyone in the church stands up.

JOHN SLOTH (cont’d)
I have hired O’Hara Davis to try to
find my son that was given up for
adoption. I thank Mayor White to
stir my passion to want to know my
other son. I thank you Mayor
White.

MAYOR KEITH WHITE
You are welcome. And I am sorry
that you think my son tried to
blackmail you. I can assure
everyone that there was no attempt
at blackmail.

John Sloth throws the empty jug into a garbage can several
feet away.

JOHN SLOTH
Well, I am obviously too drunk to
Preach today so my wife is going to
Preach. Do any of you object to my
wife doing the Preaching.

Sylvia Sloth begins the chant.

SYLVIA
Gladys.

EVERYONE
Gladys. Gladys. Gladys.

John Sloth sits down in a seat behind the podium while
Gladys walks up to the podium. Everyone in the church sits
down.

GLADYS SLOTH
I much thank all of you for your
support. And let me make clear, I
rejoice in knowing that my husband
has a son. If we can locate him,
it will be so wonderful to accept
him into our lives. And please
rise up Bea.

Bea stands up.

GLADYS SLOTH (cont’d)
Bea is the mother of my husband’s
son that was given up for
adoption. She was, is, and will
always be a good friend. If anyone
judges her and behaves unfriendly
toward my good friend Bea then you
will have me to deal with.

INT. HOTVILLE LOUNGE/CAFETERIA - DAY

SARAH SLOTH is talking to her father JOSEPH SLOTH. They are
standing a few feet from a door to a balcony where Coach
Paul Bloom is standing.

JOSEPH SLOTH
There was a meeting of the College
Board late last night. They were
trying to hold their meeting
without me but I caught wind of it.

SARAH SLOTH
What was it about?

JOSEPH SLOTH
They voted to abolish the Hotville
Feline Football Team. I could not
stop the vote. I thought we would
be able to keep the football team
at least one more season but Mayor
White rallied the board against me.

SARAH SLOTH
So are they going to fire
Paul. They just hired him.

JOSEPH SLOTH
No. He will still be over the
elective sports programs that the
students take classes in. And they
are keeping the Hotville Hounds.

SARAH SLOTH
They are keeping the women’s
softball team.

JOSEPH SLOTH
Yeah, Mikey really enjoyed the idea
of W. Bloom’s son coaching a
women’s softball team. I don’t
know why.

SARAH SLOTH
So are we going to be able to phase
Paul into the job of College
President when President Hymen
retires.

JOSEPH SLOTH
If you can convince him to want the
job, I will do my best. I need one
of our people running this

college. Of course Mayor White is
going to do everything possible to
get one of his people in charge.
(beat)
Well. I’ve got to get out of here.
I’ve got to meet with the Governor
and see if I can get the state
funds to help incubate the company
I was telling you about. This town
needs jobs.

SARAH SLOTH
Good luck.

JOSEPH SLOTH
Thanks. I will let you know how
the meeting goes.

Joseph walks across the lounge and exits. Sarah exits onto
the balcony to join Coach Paul Bloom.

EXT. PARKING LOT OF HOTVILLE COLLEGE - DAY

Viewing down on the parking lot, around 300 cars can be
seen. Some students are leaning against some of the
cars. Some students are smoking. Some are drinking
beer. Some are smooching. One student is throwing up.

COACH PAUL BLOOM is standing on a balcony from the College
Lounge/Cafeteria and looking down at the parking lot. SARAH
SLOTH walks up to stand next to him.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
What the heck have you gotten me
into. Is this where all the rejects
in Georgia go to college.

SARAH SLOTH
It is not that bad. These are good
kids.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
Some of these so called kids are
older than you.

SARAH SLOTH
So. What is your point. People
don’t advance at the same
pace. Some people take time out to
do shit. Some people start on one
path they don’t like and so

they come back to college to start
on another path. Don’t be a damn
snob.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
I just. I don’t know. Sorry.

SARAH SLOTH
Well. Actually. I probably need
to apologize to you. The sports
programs are going to be abolished
here. There of course will still
be the electives that the students
take for fun and to meet each other
and to make an easy A.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
Did you know this was going to
happen? From Tess Fletcher I know
there had already been talk that
the Sports Programs were going to
be abolished.

SARAH SLOTH
There were rumors back and
forth. See. Here is thing. My
father and I want you to become
qualified to take over Hotville
College when President Hymen
retires.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
I do not want to be President of
this college. I want to coach. I
wanted to turn the football program
here around. That was the plan.

SARAH SLOTH
I am sorry.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
(screams)
You are sorry. You are sorry.
Unfucking believable. Your father
practically owns this college. You
knew this was going to happen.

Students in the parking lot look up toward the balcony.

new businesses. It is going to be
involved in training workers for
businesses that are being brought
to Georgia. Running this college
is going to be an important
job. It will also help bring you
into my father’s business.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
I want to coach.

SARAH SLOTH
(points to the students)
These students need jobs a hell of
a lot more than they need a
football team. You will need to
learn to look at business the same
way you look at sports. It is
violent, it is dirty, and you have
to play to win.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
(laughs and throws his hands
up)
My father taught me how to win at
football. I am not prepared to...

SARAH SLOTH
Grow up. You are not prepared to
grow up. I fully understand that. I
guess all of us who come to teach
do so because there is a part of us
afraid to live outside academia.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
I was not going to say that I am
not prepared to grow up. That isn’t
a fair statement. We enter
academia because we want to help
students learn and prosper. But I
know Sports! I do not know how to
run this college.

SARAH SLOTH
(with anger in her voice)
You will have help running this
college. If you truly want to help
students learn and prosper, you can
better do that by taking over this
college and not just trying to run
some underfunded, bullshit,
football team. That said though,

SARAH SLOTH (cont’d)
at some point you might can bring
the football team back. As
President! Not Coach.

Sarah Sloth turns and storms into the lounge/cafeteria.

A student in the parking lot throws a football up to Coach
Paul Bloom. His frown turns into a smile and he throws the
football back down to the student. He watches as the
student catches the ball and then walks back to talk to the
friend who had dared him to throw the ball up to Coach Paul.

Coach Paul’s smile quickly fades. Sadly, solemnly, Coach
Paul turns to go inside the lounge/cafeteria.

INT. LOUNGE/CAFETERIA - DAY

COACH PAUL looks at Sarah sitting with her friends at a
table. He walks through a line to order what he wants to
eat. He pays and taking his tray of food he sits down at a
table by himself. With each bite he feels angrier. He
stares at Sarah, Tess Fletcher, and Majara Ray. Some male
teachers walk by. They don’t sit with him. Suddenly Coach
Paul is startled when SALVADORE ROSE sits down in a chair
across from Coach Paul.

SALVADORE ROSE
(a look of being pleased.
happy.)
Like man. You got fucked in the ass
but good.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
What?

SALVADORE ROSE
The sports program.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
Oh. Yeah. I guess I was the last
to know the situation. I should
have done a better job of checking
out the details. My God, I am
thirty and still screwing up like a
teenager. I guess that is why I
feel so angry at Sarah. She isn’t
wrong about me not acting like an
adult.

SALVADORE ROSE
Yeah. Well. On the bright side
Hotville is not a bad place to
live. The kids here are not too
bad. If you end up taking the
President’s job you will be
considered a big shot.
(beat)
Course, since your father is W.
Bloom, I guess you are used to
being considered a big shot.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
My father is famous. Not me. Most
people never paid attention to me
and I liked that.
(beat)
I guess I liked that. Now, here I
am, and I feel like I am in a fish
bowl. I don’t like this fish bowl
feeling but I guess I did want some
sort of fame.
(takes a bite of food)
I mean, I had dreams of building
myself up to a job in
pro-football. I had dreams of
coaching a Super Bowl Team. I
wanted that to be my fame. Now I am
going to end up an
administrator. A fucking
administrator. Something my father
totally hates.

SALVADORE ROSE
In High School I had dreams of
being Home Coming Queen but the
reality is that I am just a
Queen. That is life. I live with
it.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
You are gay?

SALVADORE ROSE
Does that bother you?

COACH PAUL BLOOM
Not really, though Sarah told me
that I should pretend that I am a
homophobe.

          CONTINUED: 7.

SALVADORE ROSE
Oh yeah. Politics. I
understand. Do you want me to sit
somewhere else?

COACH PAUL BLOOM
Hell no. I want you to introduce
me to the local gay scene.

SALVADORE ROSE
Seriously?

COACH PAUL BLOOM
Yeah.

SALVADORE ROSE
Oh. It is that way. I guess I
shouldn’t judge but I think you
really shouldn’t marry a woman if
you prefer dick.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
I will totally pretend this
conversation never happened if you
repeat it but Sarah knows. I will
not go into the details of why she
wants to marry me but just so you
understand, I am not out to hurt
anyone.

SALVADORE ROSE
(smiles)
I sometimes use a lesbian beard for
some of my relatives who would hate
me if they knew the real me. I
once considered marriage with one
of them but then I thought it is
not like I have a career that I
give a fuck about anyway.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
I am thinking about making up with
my partner and getting him to move
to Hotville. Does that make me
insane?

SALVADORE ROSE
I don’t know. Is it insane to play
with matches next to a truck filled
with dynamite?
(makes an extreme hand gesture
to symbolize an explosion)
Kaboom. Right in your face.

(grins as he spoons a bite of
his food)
Or maybe not.

JENNA SMYTHE walks up and sits down next Salvadore, across
from Coach Paul. Jenna bats her eye lashes in a flirtatious
manner toward Coach Paul.

JENNA SMYTHE
Sarah is going to make a beautiful
bride.

Coach Paul Bloom stares nervously at Jenna. He frowns. He
turns up his nose.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
I am a lucky man.

Salvadore Rose looks at Jenna and then he looks at Coach
Paul. He cocks his head. His eyes widen.

SALVADORE ROSE
My fucking God. You two have had
sex. You two have fucked.

Angrily Salvadore Rose stands up. He looks down at Coach
Paul.

SALVADORE ROSE (cont’d)
I see I’ve got myself some
competition.
(then he looks down at Jenna)
Or maybe you, Jenna, have got
yourself some competition. If you
can fuck with Coach Paul then so
can I.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
I think I have something to say
about that.
(laughs. he uses his fork to
play with peas on his plate.)
But yeah, maybe.

JENNA SMYTHE
(laughs as she looks at Sarah
at the other table)
Yeah, you and Elvira are two lucky
men.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
What?

(CONTINUED)
          CONTINUED: 9.

Salvadore Rose walks to throw his tray on the conveyor
belt. He then starts walking toward an exit. Jenna Smythe
jumps up and goes after him.

JENNA SMYTHE
Honey, don’t be that way. You are
just mad that I bagged him before
you could.

SALVADORE ROSE
You know, though he and I just met,
I felt like he and I were real
friends. You know how people treat
me around here. Then here you come
batting your eye lashes and making
clear to me what you had done.

JENNA SMYTHE
Sorry. He is a good guy. You will
be friends. I haven’t screwed that
up. You haven’t screwed that up.

EXT. CEMETERY - NIGHT

The full moon. Bright. Trees are blowing in a breeze and
casting dancing shadows to haunt the imagination. A hand
wearing a white glove clutches a partially open, rusted iron
gate. Legs in pink stockings and black high heel shoes walk
sideways through the gate. They continue along a brick
walkway. They stop at a sign that reads, "Hotville Cemetery,
1835." They continue to a Mausoleum. They walk up steps.
They enter the Mausoleum. A hand wearing a white glove tilts
down a flower vase and a chain is pulled. Part of the wall
opens. Moving toward the secret room the lighting turns to
pitch black. A lantern flames with fire to reveal it is
situated on a chained, padlocked, coffin. A hand wearing a
white glove checks the chain, the lock, and then turns a
small metal knob on the lantern. The flame lowers, rises,
lowers, and then goes out. Pitch black turns to a dim light
moving toward the outer area of the Mausoleum. The wall
closes. Legs in pink stockings and black high heel shoes
walk out and then away from the Mausoleum.

INT. BEA GRIFFITH’S HOME - NIGHT

A lamp flickers from bright to dim with a CRACKLE sound. A
door SQUEAKS. In flickering light, a woman’s legs in pink
stockings move across the floor. Feet dressed in black high
heel shoes walk across the floor making the floorboards
SQUEAK. The view rises from the black high heel shoes, back
to the pink stockings, and then the railings of a baby
bed. The view rises above the railings and then down to a
Thumbelina Doll in the baby bed. Two hands, wearing white
gloves, lift the doll from the baby bed and the doll is
cradled to a naked breast. From the naked breast the view
reveals the face of a smiling BEA GRIFFITH.

BEA GRIFFITH
I won’t give you up for
adoption. No. I will not. I will
not.

INT. MAYOR KEITH WHITE’S HOME - NIGHT

MAYOR KEITH WHITE stares at a picture of a younger Bea
Griffith. He shakes his head. He takes a drink from a
Bourbon Bottle.

MAYOR KEITH WHITE
The site of you standing in church
as a Scarlett Woman made my dick so
hard. I think I will seduce
you. I wish I could make Preacher
Johnny Sloth watch us fuck.

                                                                  2.

INT. RED HANK FIGHT CLUB - NIGHT

JENNA SMYTHE is dancing with MIKEY WHITE. Majara Ray is
drinking at the bar. Men can be seen dancing with each
other. Women can be seen dancing with each other. Two men,
wearing thongs, are wrestling on stage. SALAVADORE ROSE is
watching Jenna and Mikey dance while he smokes and drinks.
ELVIRA DAVIS walks up to Salvadore Rose.

ELVIRA DAVIS
I understand you’ve been getting
friendly with Coach Paul. Any
chance you can break him and Sarah
up?

SALVADORE ROSE
No. Even if I were to have sex
with him, he’d still be with
Sarah. Now if you could get his X,
Oscar Crumbe, to come to Hotville,
that might be a plan to break them
up. Using Oscar Crumbe you might be
able to deal yourself a winning
hand.

ELVIRA DAVIS
I’ve thought about doing exactly
that but I don’t like dealing from
the bottom of the deck.

SALVADORE ROSE
The hell you don’t, but I guess not
with Sarah?

ELVIRA DAVIS
Not with Sarah. I keep telling
myself not to do that to Sarah.
Still, I am tempted.
(looks over toward Jenna
Smythe. she points toward
Jenna.)
Now there is a woman who confuses
the hell out of me.

SALVADORE ROSE
How so?

ELVIRA DAVIS
She favors Jeremy so much. It is
uncanny.

SALVADORE ROSE
Other people have said that to me
and I have questioned her about
it. She has no idea why they
should favor so much.

ELVIRA DAVIS
So what is her background?

SALVADORE ROSE
She grew up in New York.

ELVIRA DAVIS
Is she adopted?

SALVADORE ROSE
No.

ELVIRA DAVIS
Just very odd. I think I will ask
her to dance.

SALVADORE ROSE
Go for it.

ELVIRA DAVIS
I will.

Elvira Davis leaves the bar where Salvadore is
sitting. There is a graceful beauty as she priss from
Salvadore toward where Jenna and Mikey are dancing.

ELVIRA DAVIS (cont’d)
Jenna. How would you like to dance
with me?

JENNA SMYTHE
I would like that.

MIKEY WHITE
Well I would not like
that. Elvira, just move along.

ELVIRA DAVIS
No. You move along.

MIKEY WHITE
I will have my bouncers remove you.

Before Mikey is even sure what has happened Elvira has
tossed him face down on the floor. She has her knee in his
back as she twist his arm.

ELVIRA DAVIS
Stud, you don’t have enough
bouncers to remove me. Do you
understand? You do not boss me.

MIKEY WHITE
I understand.

Majara watches her sister. She laughs and shakes her
head. Elvira gets off of Mikey but he continues laying on
the floor. Elvira starts dancing with Jenna.

MIKEY WHITE (cont’d)
(screams)
Will someone help get me up from
this floor. I think she has broken
my back.

ELVIRA DAVIS
It will wear off in a second or two
or three.

A couple of men come to the dance floor to help Mikey White
up from the floor and they help him walk to his office.

INT. - COLLEGE - DAY

COACH PAUL BLOOM walks down a hallway. He is looking at
classroom numbers and looking inside of classrooms. Then he
stops when he sees Salvadore sitting at a desk and talking
to Mikey White. Seeing Mikey White he starts to quickly
turn and keep walking but Salvadore motions for him to come
into the classroom.

INT. - COLLEGE CLASSROOM - DAY

SALVADORE ROSE motions for COACH PAUL BLOOM to enter the
classroom. Coach Paul Bloom walks into the classroom where
Salvadore Rose sits with MIKEY WHITE. Mikey White looks
more relaxed and laid back slouched in the chair than he
looked in Church where Coach Paul first saw him.

COACH PAUL BLOOM

I didn’t mean to disturb you. I
thought you and I might shoot some

SALVADORE ROSE
No. Glad you stopped in. Course,
sports isn’t really my thing. Now
Mikey here, he might would like to
shoot some hoops.

MIKEY WHITE
(laughs)
Yeah, I don’t think so. I am
certain Sarah and her father would
not much like it if Coach Paul and
I were to become friends.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
And what about your father?

MIKEY WHITE
Point made. I guess that I had
better get out of here before you
and I become bosom buddies. Bosom.
Romeo and Juleo like.

Mikey stands up. He reaches out and shakes Coach Paul’s
hand. He pats him on the shoulder. He smugly winks and
then he walks out of the classroom.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
Yeah, I don’t think there is much
danger of me becoming friends with
that dude.
(laughs)
Much less Romeo and Juleo. Damn.

SALVADORE ROSE
(glances down at the papers he
has been grading)
I have no idea why he came in here.
He may be having some sex fantasies
with you being his star. He was
asking me questions about
you. Kind of odd. He had heard
that you and I were sitting in the
lounge together.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
So do you know him well?

SALVADORE ROSE
Shit no. I don’t travel in his
circles. I do go to his bar and
see him there but not that he would
much notice me.

guess I had better get out of here
and let you get back to your
drudgery.

SALVADORE ROSE
No. Sit down. I can talk while I
go over these shitty papers. I
thought I was connecting with the
students on this but hell no.

Coach Paul Bloom sits down in a chair. Looking
uncomfortable he folds and unfolds his arms.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
I was never that good in history
either. Memorizing dates. Like
damn.

SALVADORE ROSE
All I ask is that they know which
happened first and be in the right
decade. I mean, I know this is not
the most important thing in the
world but like if you are going to
take my class, at least try.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
Yeah, I used to expect that from my
players. I was starting one of my
speeches to tell a young man how I
expected more from him and then his
girlfriend walked in. She heard
what I had said. The kid had just
learned he was dying from
inoperable cancer and I was telling
him how if he wanted to get
anything out of this life he had to
work harder. You know the speech.

SALVADORE ROSE
Yeah, I’ve been on both ends of
it. I’ve been lectured and have
lectured on working hard.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
When his girlfriend started cussing
at my insensitivity, I realized,
like hell, that speech is stupid.
Just fucking enjoy life. I let him

His girlfriend is the one who

move back to Georgia to be with
Sarah.

SALVADORE ROSE
That is sad that he died. And
yeah, I know in the grand
perspective of life and death that
what I do here does not mean shit.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
I was not trying to say that. Of
course learning is
important. Anyway, trying to
quickly change the subject, what do
you think about Hotville College?

SALVADORE ROSE
I get pissy like over these papers
but I pretty much like it
here. President Hymen is pretty
cool. He comes up with some goofy
ideas but I like that.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
Goofy ideas? Like for example.

SALVADORE ROSE
His idea for environmentalism is to
genetically alter humans so that
future generations will be one foot
tall. Don’t you love that.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
But how will the one foot genetic
mutants defeat the people who
remain normal size.

SALVADORE ROSE
High tech sling shots. Just wipe
all the giants off the face of the

he makes me smile.

because I seriously do not want his

SALVADORE ROSE
Well. My advice is to get in his
favor and get appointed as a
co-administrator with him, so that
you will get an idea of what the
job is like. That will also put
you in line to get his job when he
is ready to retire. That is if you
decide that you want the job. I
understand that is what Mikey White
is planning on doing with Josh
Gordon who he hopes to take over
the college.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
Josh Gordon. That name sounds
familiar.

SALVADORE ROSE
I would guess Sarah has mentioned
him.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
No. She hasn’t. But I mean that
his name sounds familiar from
California.

SALVADORE ROSE
I don’t know that much about
him. Josh could be from
California. I don’t know. These
people have almost nothing to do

or something. I am friends with
Jenna Smythe and some people from
the bars and that is about it.

INT. HOME OF ELVIRA DAVIS - DAY

ELVIRA DAVIS
Well, since my knee injury caused
me to have to retire from Tennis
I’ve had a lot of time on my hands.

TESS FLETCHER
I am sorry I haven’t come by here
to see you sooner. It looks like
you are doing well with your knee.

ELVIRA DAVIS
So you caught on quickly to that.
Yeah, you are right. It is easier
to blame a knee injury for my
retirement than saying I can no
longer play worth a shit.

TESS FLETCHER
Oh my. I didn’t mean to suggest...

ELVIRA DAVIS
The truth is what it is. So you
wanted to ask me questions about
Jeremy Sloth?

TESS FLETCHER
Yes. O’Hara told me that you are
not sure whether you are right on
whether you saw the kidnapping or
not.

ELVIRA DAVIS
Most days when I think about what I
saw, I am fairly certain I did see
the kidnapping. Then I have
doubts. I did not get a good look
at the men. I heard laughing. And
O’Hara is right, I did not hear
Jeremy scream out for help. So I
think, okay maybe I am wrong. But
see, Jeremy’s friends told me they
were not the ones who picked him up
that day. So I am left remembering
how I thought Jeremy and whoever
were rough housing. You know
playing. Then I consider, I wonder,
maybe Jeremy didn’t even fully
realize he was being
kidnapped. That is until it was
too late. So I come back to the
realization--I mean I now feel it
in my gut--that I saw Jeremy being
forced into a car and I did nothing
to help him.

(takes a sip of coffee)
O’Hara thinks that Jeremy’s friends
just don’t want to be associated
with what I saw because that would
make them look suspicious. He may
be right. Mikey White swears he
saw Jeremy the next day perfectly
okay. Regardless, in my gut, I
can’t help but feel like that
Jeremy was kidnapped that day and
that Mikey White was just confused
on what day he saw Jeremy. When I
asked people at the grocery store,
they had not seen Jeremy that day.

TESS FLETCHER
Okay, for a second, say you didn’t
see the kidnapping and it was his
friends picking him up. Do you
think it is possible that the
kidnapping was not real? Is it
possible that the Sloth family were
simply covering up the murder of
Jeremy the way Sheriff Barker
thought?

ELVIRA DAVIS
No. That is not possible. They
all loved Jeremy. We all loved
Jeremy.
(raises her voice in anger)
And what do you mean the way
Sheriff Barker thought. Sheriff
Barker thought Jeremy was kidnapped
for money. And I agree. It was
about money. God damn fucking
money. The man I loved was
kidnapped for money and I did
nothing to help him. I just
watched. I watched like I am a
total brain dead idiot.

TESS FLETCHER
I’ve seen Sheriff Barker’s files
and his theory was that the Sloth
family was covering up the murder
of Jeremy.

never the impression that he gave
me. Sheriff Barker talked to me a
few days before he was killed in
that wreck. At that point he was
still investigating the case as a
kidnapping for ransom and a
possible murder. That is what he
indicated to me.

TESS FLETCHER
Did he tell you who he suspected?

ELVIRA DAVIS
No, but it was obvious he did
suspect someone. The way I see it
now. Not when I was talking to him
or from what he said. Just the way
I see it now; the kidnapping had to
have been done by someone who would
not be so obvious. Still, it had
to have been someone who Jeremy
knew because of the way he behaved
at the car. It might not have been
his regular friends that I
questioned, but it must have been
someone that he knew. Also, it must
have been someone who would not
have drawn suspicion to themselves
when they suddenly had money.

TESS FLETCHER
Someone rich or someone who always
pretended so. That would make
sense.

ELVIRA DAVIS
Going back to those days, there is
my sister’s husband, Johnny Ray. I
don’t want to suspect him but as a
gambler he was always someone who
would have money one day and be
broke the next. Then there is
Mayor White. Back in those days he
made his money by buying
businesses, turning them around,
and then selling them. A sudden
display of wealth would not have
drawn attention to him. There is
the Bloom family. They have always
been rich. W. wouldn’t have
kidnapped Jeremy for money but... I
don’t know. That is unlikely.

TESS FLETCHER
What? Why would you suspect W.?

ELVIRA DAVIS
I am just not liking the Bloom
family right now. Forget that I
said that. At church the other day
something else occurred to me. I
don’t remember. Were you at
church?

TESS FLETCHER
Yes. I felt so sorry for Preacher
John and Gladys. And gosh, Bea,
she looked mortified at it all
coming out about her having
Preacher John’s child.

ELVIRA DAVIS
I started thinking. What if Bea
was jealous of Jeremy. I know it
sounds ridiculous that Bea could
have been behind the kidnapping but
still I wondered. And she did come
into money about that time from a
distant relative. That was her
story. I never really thought much
about it until I learned that she
and Preacher John had a child
together.

TESS FLETCHER
I guess that is something to think
about. I don’t want Bea to be
involved but you know I do not want
any of them to be guilty.

ELVIRA DAVIS
I just don’t know. And you are
right about it being awful to
suspect these people. The truth
is, hell, I don’t totally look or
feel innocent. I always come back
to why didn’t I realize Jeremy was
being kidnapped? If I had just
realized what was happening I might
could have saved Jeremy.

TESS FLETCHER
What could you have done? You
didn’t know. From what you say
Jeremy might not have even known
what was happening that day he was
kidnapped.

(beat)
So you were in love with Jeremy.

ELVIRA DAVIS
I will always love Jeremy.

TESS FLETCHER
And you are are close friends with
Sarah.

ELVIRA DAVIS
Yeah, Sarah and I are friends now
but we were not friends back then.
Going back earlier, to High School,
Sarah was a cheerleader and I was a
hood. Sarah thought I was not good
enough for Jeremy and in truth I
wasn’t. If not for Jeremy there is
no telling what direction my life
might have taken.

TESS FLETCHER
So Sarah was protective of Jeremy?

ELVIRA DAVIS
They were protective of each other.

TESS FLETCHER
So there is no way that Sarah was
involved. I don’t know why Sheriff
Barker implicated her in his
records. The more I think about it
the more silly the notion
sounds. Sheriff Baskerville kept
telling me I was wrong to think
Sarah was involved. And hell I
know the girl. I like her. Just
right there in Sheriff Barker’s
records, he implicates her, so I
got off on this crazy idea.

Tess Fletcher takes a final gulp of coffee. She grabs up
her pocketbook as she stands.

TESS FLETCHER
Much thanks for seeing me. You
have been wonderful in
straightening me out about Sarah.
And you come by my place to see

let me know what you are finding

TESS FLETCHER
I will. And please let me know
what you are able to discover. I
will not put anything in the book
that you do not want in the
book. You have full veto. You
seem to have given this case a lot

ELVIRA DAVIS
Thank you for giving me veto power.
I promise to be reasonable with any
suggestions. To be honest, when
O’Hara told me that you are writing
a book I was not happy. Then he
convinced me that you might help me
find peace if we can learn the
truth.

TESS FLETCHER
I understand. I realize now more
than ever how hard this has been
for you and why O’Hara pushed me to
research this book.

ELVIRA DAVIS
My brother does worry about
me. Since he is a detective I was
kind of shocked that he thought you
might be able to discover more
about the case than he has been
able to discover.

TESS FLETCHER
I don’t really know the people the
way you and he do. That is I don’t
know the way they were back
then. I didn’t grow up here, so in
one way it puts me at a
disadvantage but in another way it
puts me at an advantage. I mean I
was totally wrong about Sarah. I

ELVIRA DAVIS
As far as I know she was never his

did have a fight over me but it was
no big deal.

TESS FLETCHER
Wait. I thought the fight was
where they were both dating the
same person. One of them was
involved in a gay relationship.

ELVIRA DAVIS
This is not for public
consumption. Sarah and I are both
bisexual or lesbian if that is what
you want to call it. We did not
have sex during that period of
time. We didn’t even like one
another back then. Now understand,
I will deny this and it must not be
in your book but I will be honest
with you. Sarah and I are currently
lovers.

TESS FLETCHER
Was Jeremy bisexual or gay or
whatever? I mean, was there a man
that both he and Sarah may have
dated.

ELVIRA DAVIS
I don’t know. I have always been
reluctant to talk to Sarah about
Jeremy. It is so sad for both of
us. I have wanted to talk to her
and question her at times but
Jeremy was a major sore spot with
Sarah and me. I don’t mean to put
it all off on Sarah but she didn’t
understand our relationship. Jeremy
and I loved one another but we
weren’t exclusive. He dated my
sister Majara off and on. I
wouldn’t call what he and O’Hara

INT. SHERIFF BASKERVILLE’S OFFICE - DAY

TESS FLETCHER and SHERIFF BASKERVILLE are sitting at a
table. Three empty jail cells can be seen in background of
where they are sitting.

TESS FLETCHER
I see Raymond Burch is no longer in
a cell. Did someone finally pay
his fine.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
Yeah, his mom. His father would
just as soon I kept feeding him. I
don’t know why his father treats
him the way that he does. You know,
Raymond is not a bad person.

smarter students when his allergies

Yeah. He makes 100’s when his
allergies aren’t messed up but he
totally can’t take a test when he
is having a bad allergy day.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
I didn’t win a single checker game
against him. Guess I keep the jail
cell too clean for my own good.

TESS FLETCHER
(laughs and hits at the
Sheriff’s shoulder.)
You would not have wanted to win at
checkers by causing him to have an
allergy attack.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
I guess not.

TESS FLETCHER
So did you get your car cleaned up
from where he threw up in the back
of it?

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
He cleaned it. He did a real good
job. He didn’t complain once while
he was cleaning and getting that
gross mess out of the car. He just
kept apologizing to me. That
apologizing made me feel guilty as
hell for not driving him home when
I picked him up for being publicly
intoxicated. I should say his
apologizing and me having to feed
him for the next month.
(beat)
I do now miss him though.

TESS FLETCHER
Yeah. I will tell him to stop by
here. You know, when he graduates
he might make you a good

TESS FLETCHER
Shit. You know most writers have
to wear more than one hat. That is
if they want to eat. For his
writing he has been taking a lot of
Criminology classes.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
Most kids who graduate with a
degree in Criminology move to one
of the bigger cities. They don’t
even bother approaching me about a
job.

TESS FLETCHER
Talk to Raymond about becoming your
Deputy.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
I may just do that. Thanks Tess.

TESS FLETCHER
No problem. I think you will be
able to teach him a lot that he
wouldn’t be able to learn else
where.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
Me teach him. And since when do
you think that you aren’t the
better investigator than me?

TESS FLETCHER
Since I think you are totally right
about me being wrong about
Sarah. I don’t know why I let
Sheriff Barker’s files point me in
the wrong direction.

Tess starts sorting through the files on the table.

TESS FLETCHER (cont’d)
Elvira told me that the last time
she had a conversation with Sheriff
Barker he did not suspect Sarah of
anything. If what she is saying is
true then these files do not make
sense.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
Now you and I are thinking alike.
Look at the writing style.

TESS FLETCHER
(looks at the pages)
I don’t see. What do you mean?

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
Come on Tess. This style matches
most of the other records in the
archives. This is the file that
implicates Sarah.

Tess Fletcher looks over the regular file and then at the
file that implicates Sarah. She puzzles. She scratches her
head. She thumps on the table. She keeps comparing the
files. Then she rolls her eyes in a laughing expression, a
sudden realization, of what Sheriff Baskerville is talking
about.

TESS FLETCHER
At times Sheriff Barker wrote in
short sentences heavy with his own
made up abbreviations. There is
none of that in the file that
implicates Sarah.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
Exactly.

TESS FLETCHER
So if someone put records into the
archive they may also have
destroyed part of the archive. My
word! Do you think the car accident
that killed Sheriff Barker was
really an accident.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
I don’t know. I am going to begin
a criminal investigation into the
death of Sheriff Barker, even to
the point of having his body
exhumed and a new autopsy.
(looking at the files for a
moment)
Odd that you and I reached the same
conclusion of there being something
wrong with the files near the same
time.

thing about these files because I
am not sure I would have noticed to
be able to prove what I was

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
So was Elvira much help?

TESS FLETCHER
Quite a bit. I don’t know why
everyone says what they do about
Elvira being unfriendly.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
I am sure her brother O’hara had
something to do with her being
friendly to you. So besides making
clear to you that Sarah had nothing
to do with Jeremy’s kidnapping, how
else did she help you?

TESS FLETCHER
She has thought the case out to the
point of creating a suspect list of
sorts. Among her suspects includes
her own brother-in-law Johnny Ray,
Mayor White, and Bea. She started
to suggest someone in the Bloom
family but then backed off that
suggestion. That was kind of
odd. She didn’t know if Jeremy
swung both ways or not. Now don’t
spread this around, she and Sarah
do.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
Do what?

TESS FLETCHER
You know. Swing both ways. I am
telling you for the
investigation. Do not let what I
am telling you become gossip.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE

else. Someone that both Jeremy and
Sarah were dating but Elvira had no
idea who that might be. I am going
to need to talk to Sarah to see if
she will tell me.

INT. SLOTH MANSION - NIGHT

Soaked, drenched, with hair like a wet cat, TESS FLETCHER
climbs a large column of stairs. There is a BOOM OF
THUNDER. Tess jumps. She looks up toward the skylight above
the staircase. From looking at Tess we look up toward the
skylight. We see lightning flashing in the night sky through
the skylight. We HEAR the SOUND of HAIL HITTING the
skylight. We see large balls of bouncing hail.

In flickering light our view moves toward the skylight back
to Tess. She is now looking from the staircase toward the
center of the room. We turn from Tess to see what she is
seeing. A Chandelier is swaying in a breeze and its lights
are flickering on and off.

Still in flickering light, from watching the Chandelier we
turn back to the frightened face of Tess. She looks down the
stairs and then she looks up the stairs. We also look down
and then up the stairs.

LOUD BOOM of THUNDER. Lights go out.

TESS FLETCHER
Where did that butler go? Did he
call Sarah on the Intercom to
expect me.
(screams)
Sarah. The butler told me to come
up.
(beat, screams)
Sarah!

Lights come back on. No flickering.

SYLVIA SLOTH walks on to the balcony at the top of the
staircase. She is dressed in a nightgown, ready for bed.

SYLVIA SLOTH
(a tone of of slight derision)
Tess. It is rather late to be out.
(now more concern)
And in this storm. You are
soaked, dripping water.

Tess shakes her head like a wet dog. Though her windbreaker
is still on, it is loose and she shakes water from it.

TESS FLETCHER
I am afraid the late hour slipped
up on me.
(laughs)
So did the storm. I had called
Sarah earlier to be expecting

me. It was a longer ride on my
bicycle from the Jailhouse than I
realized.

SYLVIA SLOTH
(turns toward bedrooms, yells)
Sarah, you have company.
(turns toward Tess, smiles)
I will show you where Sarah’s
bedroom is.

Tess climbs the stairs to stand next to Sylvia. She follows
Sylvia to Sarah’s bedroom. Sylvia knocks on Sarah’s door.
No one answers. Sylvia opens the door. The bedroom is
empty.

SYLVIA SLOTH (cont’d)
Sarah must have returned to her
home or to the home of Coach
Bloom. I thought she was sleeping
here tonight.

TESS FLETCHER
When I talked to her, that was also
my understanding. Course, I am
running late and my cellphone has
been doing weird. She could have
tried to call me and I would not
know it.

SYLVIA SLOTH
You said you rode your bicycle
here?

TESS FLETCHER
Yes.

SYLVIA SLOTH
(in a laughing voice)
I lost my virginity on a bicycle.
(looks from side to side and
with her hand to her mouth
toward Tess’ ear, in a hushed
voice)
I called my bicycle Clyde.

TESS FLETCHER
Thank you and I am so sorry for
this.

SYLVIA SLOTH
No problem.

Tess walks into the bedroom while Sylvia walks down the
hall. Tess looks on the bed and at an open year book lying
there. The yearbook is turned to a page with Jeremy Sloth
pictured.

TESS FLETCHER
My word. Jenna Smythe favors
Jeremy. Unusual.

SARAH SLOTH walks into her bedroom.

SARAH SLOTH
I was talking to my father in his
office. I am sorry I did not greet
you.

TESS FLETCHER
I was running late. I guess I
could have asked you on the phone
what I wanted to ask but I know it
is a sad topic and I wanted to be
able to see your face in case I am
crossing a line. I mean, I don’t
want to accidentally be hurtful or
make you angry.

SARAH SLOTH
Elvira warned me that you would be
asking me about Jeremy. I didn’t
realize how she had been avoiding
the subject with me but I guess I
had also been avoiding the subject.

TESS FLETCHER
I want to make clear that you are
not a suspect. We now realize that
someone has tampered with Sheriff
Barker’s files.

SARAH SLOTH
That someone tampered with his
files to implicate me is
troubling. Elvira said the more
she thought about it, the more it
upset her. I am not really sure
what I should think about it. I
obviously have an enemy.

TESS FLETCHER
Yes and it also makes us wonder if
someone murdered Sheriff
Barker. That thought is very
disturbing.

SARAH SLOTH
I don’t understand who would want
to suggest I had anything to do
with what happened to Jeremy.

TESS FLETCHER
This is not what I came here to ask
you but still I must. Is it
possible that Jeremy and Jenna
Smythe are one and the same person?

SARAH SLOTH
Elvira told me that I can trust you
and that she has shared some
things.

TESS FLETCHER
Yes. I understand about you and
Elvira.

SARAH SLOTH
When Coach Paul told me that Jenna
is a man, I thought Jenna and
Jeremy must be one and the same
person. I was going to confront
her, him. But see, Jenna knows
that Coach Paul Bloom is bi-sexual
and that creates a situation. I
don’t want my parents to know.

TESS FLETCHER
I understand. So Coach Paul
discovered Jenna is a man because
they were...

SARAH SLOTH
Yes. Anyway, I am left wondering
if I cried and cried over my cousin
when the entire time the entire
thing was about him bilking my
father out of a million dollars.

TESS FLETCHER
I will confront Jenna. You and
Coach Paul will not be mentioned.

SARAH SLOTH
Thank you for that. Elvira told me
that you would be asking me if
Jeremy and I dated the same person
and if that is what we fought
about.

TESS FLETCHER
Yes.

SARAH SLOTH
That is not what we were fighting
about. I don’t know why Mikey said
that. I wanted Jeremy to stop
seeing Elvira. I was not friends
with Elvira then as I am now.

TESS FLETCHER
Did you ever date Mikey White?

SARAH SLOTH
Yes.

TESS FLETCHER
So Mikey could have thought you
were fighting over him. And he is
the one who wanted to confuse
people on when Jeremy was
kidnapped.

SARAH SLOTH
Wait. You think Jeremy and Mikey
had a sexual thing.

TESS FLETCHER
I don’t want to jump to
conclusions. I’ve already made
that mistake once. I guess I need
to talk to Mikey.

SARAH SLOTH
Be careful when talking to
Mikey. While your friend Sheriff
Baskerville controls the County
Sheriff’s Office, Mayor White
controls the City police.

TESS FLETCHER
Do you think they would threaten
me?

SARAH SLOTH
I don’t like Mikey White. I don’t
trust Mikey White. Now mind you,
part of that dislike comes from a
rivalry between my father and his
father.

TESS FLETCHER
I understand. Still, you may be
right. I may let Sheriff
Baskerville do the questioning of
Mikey White.

Sarah Sloth reaches out and pulls Tess into her arms and
hugs her.

SARAH SLOTH
Thank you for investigating all of
this.

SYLVIA SLOTH enters the bedroom.

SYLVIA SLOTH
I have some clothes that should fit
you. I have a bath prepared and
the clothes laid out. You need to
get out of those wet clothes before
you catch a cold.

INT. HOME OF BEA GRIFFITH - NIGHT

Mikey White is let into the home by Bea at the front door.
He walks in and over to a recliner chair. He sits down,
reclines back, and props his legs up. Bea walks to the
Fridge in the kitchen and gets a couple of beers. She walks
back to the living room, hands Mikey White one of the beers
and pops the other one for herself. Mikey White pops the
beer. He takes a drink. He places the beer on an end table
next to the chair. He unzips his pants and pulls out his
cock. He starts to play with his cock with Bea watching.
She quickly finishes her beer and throws the can into the
trash. She strips naked. She climbs into the reclining
chair to straddle Mikey White. She begins to ride Mikey
White’s cock.

EXT. HOME OF BEA GRIFFITH - NIGHT

Jenna Smythe is on the porch next to a porch swing and
peeping inside the window at Mikey and Bea having sex. Her
eyes have a strange reddish glow. Using a flashlight she
rubs her genital area through her dress. She turns and
walks off the porch.

                                                                  7.

EXT. CHURCH STREET - NIGHT

With light from the flashlight Jenna Smythe walks in the
rain. She walks past Preacher Johnny Sloth’s church. She
turns down a path. She walks through a partially open gate
to the cemetery. She walks to the Mausoleum. She climbs
steps. She enters the Mausoleum.

INT. MAUSOLEUM - NIGHT

JENNA SMYTHE tips over a vase and a chain is pulled. The
door to the secret room in the Mausoleum opens. She lights
candles throughout the secret room in the Mausoleum as the
door to the secret room closes. In candle light she strips
herself naked. Her wet clothes are in a puddle on the floor.
From viewing the pile of wet clothes we look at her smoothly
shaved legs from all angles. We look at her smooth ass; then
her large, soft cock. The focus moves to her slender but
muscular chest and then her back. Our viewing rises to the
back of her head and her wig. Then we look at her face, her
makeup. We see an attractive woman. From her face our view
moves to her arm and then to her hand touching her cock. The
focus remains on her cock as she walks toward the coffin and
then her soft cock touches against the iron chain that wraps
around the chained coffin. Her hand moves away from her cock
and to where the chains are padlocked. She fondles the
padlock that locks the chains. The view pulls back as she
climbs on top of the coffin. She begins to hump the coffin.

The secret door opens. MIKEY WHITE enters the Mausoleum. The
secret door closes. Mikey White watches Jenna hump the
coffin for a moment.

MIKEY WHITE
What the hell are you doing?

JENNA SMYTHE
(startled)
I don’t know.

Jenna Smythe looks around. She looks at her cock.

JENNA SMYTHE (cont’d)
I don’t remember even coming in
here. I have no memory of coming
here.

MIKEY WHITE
I saw you in the window watching
Bea and me.

          CONTINUED: 8.

JENNA SMYTHE
I don’t remember watching. I think
he is calling me. We need to free
him from the coffin.

MIKEY WHITE
Be glad that is impossible because
if we did free him, he would kill
us. Now get dressed. We need to
get out of here.

JENNA SMYTHE
One of these days I am going to
free him.

MIKEY WHITE
Then one of these days he is going
to kill you. Kill us.

INT. SYLVIA SLOTH’S BATHROOM - NIGHT

Naked, her large breast bouncing, TESS FLETCHER climbs into
the large bathtub that is big enough for several
people. Airjets are blowing the water. With a smile she
lowers herself into the water. Focus moves from the top of
her head, her smiling face, to her nice breast sticking out
of the water, to a blurred beneath water view of her vagina
area, and to her feet partially beneath and above
water. Her toes, painted in pink nail polish are sticking
out of the water and wiggling. She begins stretching in the
water with a yawn.

JOSEPH SLOTH enters the bathroom. She quickly moves to cover
her breast with one hand and her vagina area with the other
hand.

JOSEPH SLOTH
Would it upset you if I strip naked
and crawl into the tub with you?

TESS FLETCHER
What would Sylvia think?

JOSEPH SLOTH
It was her idea.

TESS FLETCHER
Somehow I doubt that.

JOSEPH SLOTH
Well, you in the bath anyway. You
can’t blame a man for trying.

(CONTINUED)
          CONTINUED: 9.

TESS FLETCHER
You are a married man.

Turns and leaves the bathroom.

INT. COACH PAUL’S HOUSE - NIGHT

COACH PAUL BLOOM is sitting at his table. The lights
flicker on and off. He is looking over an old football
playbook. His cellphone is laying on the table. He looks at
it. He reaches out to touch it. He then pushes it away.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
I must not call Oscar. I must not
call him.

KNOCK. KNOCK. Coach Paul gets up and walks to the door to
answer it. He opens the door and ELVIRA DAVIS walks in. He
views the storm outside for a moment and then closes the
door.

ELVIRA DAVIS
I behaved threatening toward you
and I am sorry. We both love Sarah
and we can make this work.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
Agreed.

Elvira Davis walks over to the table where Coach Paul has
the football playbook open. She glances at it.

ELVIRA DAVIS
Football has been your life.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
Pretty much so.

ELVIRA DAVIS
So what is your plan to keep the
football team at Hotville College?

COACH PAUL BLOOM
I don’t have a plan. Sarah wants
me to become President of the
college and I guess if that happens
then I will be able to restore the
football program.

Elvira walks from the table and closer to where Coach Paul
is standing.

(CONTINUED)
          CONTINUED: 10.

ELVIRA DAVIS
But then you will not be able to
coach.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
No.

ELVIRA DAVIS
That sucks.
(beat)
Well. I am not going to stay. I
just wanted to let you know that I
am over my crazy and that I am
sorry the way I behaved.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
What caused the change? I mean,
the change in your feelings toward
me.

ELVIRA DAVIS
Thinking about Jeremy Sloth.
(beat)
I guess I better be going. Are we
good?

COACH PAUL BLOOM
Yes. I am glad you visited. I am
hoping we will be friends. I know
that is awkward but still.

ELVIRA DAVIS
As long as you do nothing to hurt
Sarah, there is no reason for us to
be enemies.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
Understood.

INT. MAUSOLEUM - NIGHT

BEA GRIFFITH is standing at the chained coffin. The secret
room is lit with candles.

BEA GRIFFITH
I must find a way to break the
curse that binds these chains and
prevents the key from working on
the padlocks. I can find nothing
that can break, can cut, these
chains. I must break the curse,
the magic, that locks you from me.

                                                                 11.

INT. RED HANK FIGHT CLUB - NIGHT

MIKEY WHITE and JENNA SMYTHE sit in Mikey White’s office.

JENNA SMYTHE
I don’t see how you can have sex
with Bea.

MIKEY WHITE
She is attractive.

JENNA SMYTHE
You are gay.

MIKEY WHITE
Don’t put me in that box. And
please do not try to tell me that
there are not times you find
yourself attracted to women. I saw
the way you were looking at Elvira.

JENNA SMYTHE
She is a beautiful woman.

MIKEY WHITE
Yes, she is.

JENNA SMYTHE
Dancing is not having sex.

MIKEY WHITE
So you are saying that if you
could, you would not want to have
sex with Elvira.

JENNA SMYTHE
I don’t know. Maybe with
Elvira. But with Bea. No way!

MIKEY WHITE
I like Bea. And when she is riding
my cock, it is different. It is
different from when I’ve been with
any other person. I like that
feeling.

JENNA SMYTHE
She is mentally off.

MIKEY WHITE
Hell. We are all mentally off.

(CONTINUED)
          CONTINUED: 12.

JENNA SMYTHE
I am not.

MIKEY WHITE
You were fucking a coffin.

JENNA SMYTHE
I wasn’t. It was not me. That is
the only way I can explain it. It
was not me.

MIKEY WHITE
I know it wasn’t exactly you. My
guess is that a witch, probably
Bea, thinks that you are the one
who bound those chains and was
compelling you, thinking she could
get you to break the spell. That is
my off the cuff theory, but I am
not sure that is even possible.
Could Bea do that kind of spell
while she and I are having sex?

JENNA SMYTHE
Yes. The sex could have been part
of the ritual and why I was drawn
to the two of you before going to
the Mausoleum. So Bea could be
trying to free him? But why?

MIKEY WHITE
I don’t know. It is her threat, to
reveal the Vampire in the
Mausoleum, that she uses to
maintain a hold over me. I had
always thought her discovery of our
secret was accidental. Then I
discovered the magic books and that
she is a witch. I know she dabbles
in magic just as you do.

JENNA SMYTHE
Before you start up again on me
being her son, I am not. I am not
her son. It is just a coincidence
that she has some magic power as do
I.

MIKEY WHITE
You favor Jeremy. You and Bea are
both witches. You must be her son.

(CONTINUED)
          CONTINUED: 13.

JENNA SMYTHE
I am not her son and I am not the
witch who locked those chains
around the coffin. I’ve told you
that more than once. If I could, I
would free him. No witch, Bea or
anyone else, would have to compel
me to do it. I would free him on
my own.

MIKEY WHITE
And if Bea thinks you are the one
who cursed those chains to be
unbreakable, then she isn’t the one
who bound those chains. So who did
it? He, himself, couldn’t have put
the curse on the chains because if
he had that power then he, himself,
could break the spell and free
himself.

JENNA SMYTHE
I once had a dream that he isn’t
really in the coffin. I dreamed
that it was all a charade to fool
someone.

MIKEY WHITE
An empty coffin. And the letter to
us was just to help in the charade.

JENNA SMYTHE
Maybe to fool Bea. Maybe he was
trying to get away from her. She
might even be the witch who cursed
him to be a vampire.

MIKEY WHITE
Is there any spell that you can use
to look inside the coffin, to see
if he is there.

JENNA SMYTHE
As you know, it is bound by
magic. The only way to look in
that coffin is to break the chains
and I have been unable to work that
spell. As I’ve told you, I am not
very powerful.

MIKEY WHITE
If he is in the coffin and we break
the chains, with his new found

freedom he will kill us. Even if
you were that powerful, that would
not be smart. Can’t you cast a
spell to see in the coffin through
a mirror or a crystal ball?

JENNA SMYTHE
There may be such a spell, but I do
not know it. I am not really much
of a witch.

MIKEY WHITE
So you keep telling me. I am not
so sure I am convinced.

INT. SLOTH MANSION - DAY

TESS FLETCHER, SYLVIA SLOTH, and JOSEPH SLOTH are sitting in
a large sun room eating breakfast.

TESS FLETCHER
Thank you so much for letting me
sleep over.

SYLVIA SLOTH
No problem.

TESS FLETCHER
Back on the subject of my current
obsession, Jeremy. My understanding
is that you, Joseph, delivered the
ransom in person.

JOSEPH SLOTH
That is right. Besides the popular
resort and campground on Hotville
Lake there is another
campground. I actually own it. It
is totally run down and is
currently closed. It is the Sloth
Campground. That is where the
ransom drop was done. The money was
left in an old cave there.

TESS FLETCHER
Sheriff Barker’s records, which I
am now fully aware have been
altered, said the ransom drop was
done in a crowd at your brother’s
church.

JOSEPH SLOTH
That is wrong and Sheriff Barker
would not have put that in his
records.

TESS FLETCHER
I guess I need to see if I can get
Sheriff Baskerville to go out to
the Sloth Campground with
me. Joseph, if there is any way
you can find the time, it would be
good if you could go with us.

JOSEPH SLOTH
I don’t have a thing planned for
this morning. If it is agreeable to
the Sheriff and you, we can go as
soon as we can hit the road.

TESS FLETCHER
I will call him and find out.

INT. CAVE AT THE SLOTH CAMPGROUND - DAY

TESS FLETCHER, SHERIFF BASKERVILLE, and JOSEPH SLOTH are
standing just inside the entrance to the cave. The sun is
shinning into the cave. We see that each of them, one by
one, has a flashlight. Sheriff Baskerville turns his
flashlight on and off to make sure that it is working.

JOSEPH SLOTH
I haven’t been in this cave since
Sheriff Barker and I returned here
to look for evidence and to see if
the money was gone. The paid
ransom was gone and I guess the
kidnappers got it.
(beat, does he sound sincere
or not, the viewer should
wonder)
Still Jeremy was not returned to
us. It broke our hearts.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
I looked at some of the old
evidence that Sheriff Barker had
recovered from the cave. There was
a matchbook from the Hotville Cafe.
There was some spent bullet
casings. There was a cross. Do you
remember anything else that he
gathered that I missed locating or
that may have been tampered with?

JOSEPH SLOTH
There was an old Falconian
Cap. Sheriff Barker collected some
condoms from the cave. There was
some beer cans and some sacks from
a couple of Restaurants.

TESS FLETCHER
If that was from the kidnappers
that would have been very sloppy of
them. Even back then they had
pretty good DNA lab work. Also
that would be evidence of where the
kidnappers may have gone while in
Hotville. That evidence might have
provided some pretty good clues,
leads, for Sheriff Barker.

          CONTINUED: 3.

JOSEPH SLOTH
The thing is this cave was a
favorite of the young gay tourist
and locals. The campground was run
down back then but it was one of
the favorite haunts of young men
partying.

TESS FLETCHER
But see, even that would be
something Sheriff Barker could have
explored. Someone might have seen
something.

JOSEPH SLOTH
Sheriff Barker did his best. Do not
think I am trying to put him down
because I am not. Sheriff Barker
had no co-operation from the state.
There was no co-operation from
those assholes in Atlanta no matter
how much I demanded it. I hadn’t
supported the then current governor
and he had NOT forgotten the deals
I made in trying to defeat him.

TESS FLETCHER
Are you saying he interfered with
the investigation to stop the
Sheriff from getting help from
state law enforcement?

JOSEPH SLOTH
My family was made suspect by the
state officials. Sheriff Barker
knew better. He didn’t suspect us;
but because of the Governor and our
current Mayor other people did.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
Tess, don’t make corruption under
the Georgia Gold Dome part of your
book. That would be a mistake.

JOSEPH SLOTH
Oh gosh yes, do not put what I just
told you in your book. You do not
want to do that. And I do not think
they had a thing to do with what
happened to Jeremy. It is just
they, corrupt and disgusting as
they were, were trying to take
advantage of the politics of the
situation.

TESS FLETCHER
That is what you say, but
especially with the White family it
could have been more than politics.

JOSEPH SLOTH
I don’t know. The Mayor and I have
been rivals a long time. He plays
dirty but that dirty; the
kidnapping of Jeremy? I doubt it.

TESS FLETCHER
Someone kidnapped that young
man. They probably killed that
young man. You have to realize
that killers do not wear an id that
declares that they are
murderers. They look like everyone
else. They try not to bring
attention to themselves. Whoever
was behind what happened is
probably someone that you would
never suspect.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
Now Tess it could be a total
stranger. This was not a crime of
violence; emotion. This was a
crime for money and that means
total strangers could have been
involved.

TESS FLETCHER
That may be true, but the way that
Elvira described the kidnapping it
was someone who Jeremy knew. He
thought they were just horsing
around. He didn’t realize he was
being kidnapped just as Elvira
didn’t realize he was being
kidnapped.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
Still the unknown suspect could
have been a casual acquaintance,
acquaintance but still a stranger,
who he had just met around the
college or the lake or
anywhere. This suspect could be
someone he might have known for a
few days or even weeks but still be
a stranger.

TESS FLETCHER
That is true. It could have been
someone pretending to be his friend
for a period of time before the
kidnapping. So shit, that really
increases our suspect list.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
No. We just have to do basic police
work, ask people questions, to see
if we can find who may have been
new in Jeremy’s life before the
kidnapping. It would have been
much easier if done at the time of
the kidnapping but it can still be
done.

JOSEPH SLOTH
Sheriff Barker did take Jeremy’s
computer stuff and also did a
search on his phone records. I had
forgotten about that.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
Yeah, I’ve looked for the
evidence. It is gone. The copy of
the phone records and the computer
is gone.

TESS FLETCHER
Sheriff Barker had to have figured
the mystery, the guilty party, out
and that is why he was killed and
records and evidence were altered
or removed.
(beat)
But why did it take him so long to
figure it out?

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
I hate to say it but maybe he did
figure it out from near the
beginning.

TESS FLETCHER
Ben! You can’t believe Sheriff
Barker was dishonest.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
I don’t want to believe it; but you
see how the evidence should have
been laid out for him. How could
he not have solved the case? It is

difficult now, but it should not
have been that difficult back then
when the case was fresh.

JOSEPH SLOTH
A lot of pressure was being brought
on him, on both of us, to let it
go. And God help me, at some
point, one morning I woke up and I
put Jeremy out of my mind and I did
let it go. I put it all behind me.

TESS FLETCHER
It couldn’t have just been
politics. Someone high up must
have been involved. It all goes
back to the White family. Doesn’t
it?

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
Tess. Mayor White can make our
lives miserable if we start trying
to implicate him in this.

TESS FLETCHER
So we should just let it go? We
should not seek justice for Jeremy.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
I hate when people say that.
Justice! When what they really mean
is revenge.

TESS FLETCHER
(with a dirty look toward the
Sheriff)
So you think we should stop
investigating?

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
No. We just need to be careful and
hope the rocks we turn over do not
lead back to Mayor White or his
son.

With light from their flashlights they walk deeper into the
cave. They look at the sides of the cave. There are various
drawings that have been done with spray paint. We focus on
one bit of graffiti that is hard to read. The word coffin,
in red paint, comes into focus to be readable. Then we move
on. They keep walking. The distance between the cave walls
narrow as they walk. They reach an area where to keep

walking they would have to squeeze in, walking
sideways. They stop.

JOSEPH SLOTH
I left the four suitcases with the
money squeezed there.

TESS FLETCHER
You carried all four of the
suitcases by yourself?

JOSEPH SLOTH
No. My brother was with me.

TESS FLETCHER
How were you told to make the drop
here?

JOSEPH SLOTH
A letter was left under the door of
Bea’s home. She brought the letter
to me and my brother. Well, to my
brother. I was standing there. She
did not see who had left the
letter.

TESS FLETCHER
Is it a coincidence that the ransom
note was left with Bea? She is one
of our suspects.

JOSEPH SLOTH
What? No.

TESS FLETCHER
She may have resented that Jeremy
was accepted by Preacher John while
she was forced to give her baby
up. That could be her motive.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
Tess. Even if she were driven by
madness to kidnap and hurt Jeremy,
which I doubt, could she have also
murdered Sheriff Barker? Could she
have altered records and messed
with evidence. I don’t think she
is capable of doing such
things. My God, we are talking
about Bea. She brings cookies and
cakes to me. She is a nice lady.

TESS FLETCHER
I don’t want Bea to be guilty. I
like Bea. Still, I think Elvira
was right to put her on the suspect
list. According to Elvira she did
suddenly have money after the
kidnapping.

JOSEPH SLOTH
That was money from a relative who
had died.

TESS FLETCHER
Do you know that for sure?

JOSEPH SLOTH
No. Bea and I barely have ever
spoken. Anyway, didn’t Elvira say
there were two men who kidnapped
Jeremy?

TESS FLETCHER
She didn’t see them well enough to
be able to identify them and
therefore she could not identify
their sex.

JOSEPH SLOTH
So in this theory, Bea and some
unknown person kidnapped
Jeremy. So I guess the question
would be, who was Bea friends with
during that period?
(beat)
I can’t remember anyone in
particular who might have been
involved with her but then we
didn’t really associate.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
You know, now that I think about
it, she was running a boarding
house during that period. Josh
Gordon was one of her borders and I
am thinking Jenna Smythe might have
also boarded with her when she
first came to town. There was also
an older man who boarded with her
but I don’t really remember much
about him. There may have been
another border or two but I can’t
remember.

forgotten Josh Gordon was in town
during that period. My brother did
mention once or twice he did not
like Josh hanging around Jeremy. I
don’t know, never met, Jenna Smythe
and I don’t remember my brother
mentioning her.

INT. PREACHER JOHNNY SLOTH’S HOME - DAY

Tess and Gladys are sitting in the living room sipping
coffee. Gladys has the TV set to watch wrestling.

TESS FLETCHER
So are you and Bea okay?

GLADYS SLOTH
There is no reason that we
shouldn’t be. We were friends in
High School when we were both
dating Johnny. There was no
jealousy then. There is no
jealousy now.

TESS FLETCHER
I hate to ask this. You are going
to think I am awful and in truth I
want it to be a ridiculous thought.

Gladys jumps up and motions her hands in wrestling moves.

GLADYS SLOTH
Hell yeah! Toss that SOB to the
mat. That is right. Pin him. Pin
him.
(shaking her head as she sits
back down)
That was beautiful.
(takes a sip of coffee)
Tess, sorry. What were you saying?

TESS FLETCHER
Have you ever wondered if Bea was
involved in the kidnapping of
Jeremy?

GLADYS SLOTH
Heavens no. She loved Jeremy like
he was her own son and Jeremy
thought of her as an aunt. They
loved one another.

TESS FLETCHER
I understand at the time of the
kidnapping that Bea had taken in
borders.

GLADYS SLOTH
Oh yes. That was during the period
where she fancied she could turn
Hotville into a Mecca for artist.

TESS FLETCHER
So her borders were artist?

GLADYS SLOTH
Right. She rented to two men and a
woman. Josh Gordon was one of
them. The other man was older. It
is odd that I can’t remember his
name because Bea had something of a
crush on him. Then the woman was
Jenna Smythe. Of course you know
Jenna and Josh. They remained about
town and went to work for Hotville
College.

TESS FLETCHER
Have you ever thought it odd on how
much Jenna favors Jeremy?

GLADYS SLOTH
Not really. This goes back years
but I saw a woman on Jerry Springer
who looked enough like me to have
been my twin sister. I sent a
picture of myself to Jerry
Springer, explaining how much I
look like the woman, and asked if
he could arrange for us to meet. He
thought it might be an idea for a
show.

TESS FLETCHER
You went on Jerry Springer?

GLADYS SLOTH
The show didn’t pan out because I
refused to flash my boobs but he
did arrange for me to meet the
woman in New York where the woman
lives. We became friends and
anyway Jenna is the, uh, ah, mmm,
daughter of the woman, Mrs. Mary
Smythe.

TESS FLETCHER
So are you related to Mary Smythe?

GLADYS SLOTH
Yes. Mary and Bea and I are 7th
cousins if we figured out our
family tree correctly. Bea and I
discovered we were distantly
related while we were still in High
School and working on a family tree
project in history.

TESS FLETCHER
Neat. That is a cool idea for
history. I may mention that to
Salvadore Rose who teaches history
at the college.
(beat)
You know, Jenna and he date.
(beat, shakes head)
Gosh, I am so easily distracted
these days. Anyway, so when Jenna
lived with Bea, did Jeremy and
Jenna become good friends.

GLADYS SLOTH
Oh my, they fought like brother and
sister over silly stuff. But yeah,
I think they were friends.

TESS FLETCHER
So they fought.

GLADYS SLOTH
Mainly, just silly stuff. Jenna
some times would say stuff against
Bea and Jeremy did not like that
one bit. Jeremy loved his Aunt Bea
as he called her. But don’t get
the idea that Jenna would have done
anything to hurt Jeremy. It was
not that kind of fighting.

TESS FLETCHER
As I guess you know, I am writing a
book about the kidnapping and in
the process I am trying to figure
some things out.

GLADYS SLOTH
That is what I’ve been told and I
figured that is what your questions
have been about.

TESS FLETCHER
Yes. Of course. The thing is, if
you agree, I am about to bring my
intrusion to another level. If you
object, that is okay. You will not
hurt my feelings. Here is the
thing, I would like to look through
Jeremy’s things.

GLADYS SLOTH
Why would I object? I will show
you to the attic where we have the
boxes stored. I warn you though, I
haven’t thrown anything away. Even
when Sheriff Barker told me I could
throw stuff away or give it to
charity, I couldn’t. He said it
would be better for me if I did get
rid of the items but I didn’t
agree.

TESS FLETCHER
Sheriff Barker wanted you to get
rid of Jeremy’s items?

GLADYS SLOTH
Yes. He said it would help me find
closure. I told him that the only
thing that would help me find
closure is if he found out what
happened to my Jeremy. He made me
so angry. When he died, that was
one of the few times I refused to
go to a funeral where Johnny
preached.

TESS FLETCHER
So you got the feeling that Sheriff
Barker was not doing enough to
investigate what happened to
Jeremy?

GLADYS SLOTH
It was more than a feeling. It was
a fact. Joseph said the problem
was coming down from the state, but
I don’t believe it. When I talked
to the state officials they said
that Sheriff Barker refused to
include them in on the
investigation and that he had
jurisdiction. Contrary to what
Joseph was saying, Mayor White

GLADYS SLOTH (cont’d)
actually did use the city police to
do some investigating for me. It
is no secret that Mayor White and
my husband hate one another. I
don’t think hate is too strong of a
word for their
relationship. Still, Mikey and
Jeremy were friends. Mikey wanted
to find out what happened to
Jeremy?

TESS FLETCHER
So was Mikey or his father able to
find anything out?

GLADYS SLOTH
No. Johnny thinks they didn’t try
but I think they did. I think the
problem was Sheriff Barker.

TESS FLETCHER
(looks at her watch)
Much thanks for talking to me. I
just realized I need to be
somewhere. Will it be okay if I
come back later to look through
Jeremy’s things.

GLADYS SLOTH
Sure. Just let me know when.

TESS FLETCHER
(stands up)
Will do. Thank you so much.

INT. BEA GRIFFITH’S HOME - DAY

Jenna Smythe and Bea are sitting in the kitchen and playing
a game of Rummy. Jenna draws and discards a card. Bea
draws and discards a card.

JENNA SMYTHE
I know it was you who compelled me
to the Mausoleum to free Count
Duso. I don’t know how you could
have thought I am the one who put
the spell on the chains.

BEA GRIFFITH
I am sorry. You know how I am when
I get something in my head. I now
know I was wrong.

JENNA SMYTHE
No problem. The truth is, I
suspected you as well. Now that we
know we are on the same side, how
are we going to work together to
free Count Duso?

BEA GRIFFITH
Damned if I know.

JENNA SMYTHE
You know, there is a chance that he
isn’t in the coffin. There is a
chance he was playing a game with
us to fool us on where he is.

BEA GRIFFITH
I’ve considered what you are
saying. Still, it is true that he
was afraid he would lose control
and hurt us.

JENNA SMYTHE
I know. And that is Mikey’s fear.
Mikey is afraid that if I do manage
to free him, he will kill Mikey and
me. But was Count Duso really
becoming that out of
control. Somehow, I doubt it.

BEA GRIFFITH
There was a hunger gripping him
that he couldn’t control and he had
memory lapses. I think that is
true. I think a witch was doing
something to him and it terrified
him. Still, I’ve also wondered if
he would have taken such an extreme
action, locking himself in the
coffin, to deal with his fear of
what the mystery witch was doing to
him.

JENNA SMYTHE
I read the letter. I know what he
wrote and I know he was troubled,
but we are talking about Count
Duso. To think that one night he
would crawl out of his coffin and
decide to stop fighting the mystery
witch baffles me. I find it hard to
believe.

BEA GRIFFITH
To confine himself to that coffin
is not a solution that ever made
much sense to me. It could all
have been a charade to fool
whatever witch was causing his
cravings and mental lapses. I’ll
not argue against your theory of
him not being in the coffin; though
the fact may still be that he is in
the coffin and we need to free
him. Still, you have to realize,
Mikey may be right. Count Duso
might want to kill us.

JENNA SMYTHE
Do you know of any spell that we
can cast to get beyond the bindings
of the chains to look into the
coffin to see if he is there and
maybe even communicate with him.

BEA GRIFFITH
Not right off hand but it might be
something we should research.

INT. MAUSOLEUM - NIGHT

MIKEY WHITE is standing with a crowbar and a sledge
hammer. He begins working, hammering, to wedge the crowbar
into the edges of the coffin.

MIKEY WHITE
I might not can break the chains to
free you, not that I would want to
go against your wishes, but if I
can just get where I can peep into
the coffin and talk with you. If I
can just break the seal. I think
there is enough play in the chains
where I can run some equipment into
the coffin. I don’t want to hurt
you. I don’t want to go against
your wishes. I just want to talk
to you.

                                                                 16.

INT. ATTIC OF GLADYS SLOTH HOME - NIGHT

TESS FLETCHER is seated on the floor and looking through
boxes of Jeremy Sloth’s things. Tess picks up a book that
has Journal labeled on it. She starts to read out loud.

TESS FLETCHER
Aunt Bea told me that I have a half
brother. It was rather odd,
unusual, when she told me. She
told me that she had a dream that I
would be the one who would find her
son.
(turns page)
I told my father what Aunt Bea had
told me. I wasn’t sure whether he
would be upset or exactly how he
would react when I told him. He
wasn’t upset. He told me that mom
knew and that within the family it
was not a secret. He said that he
had made a mistake. He told me
that he wished he had not joined
with Bea’s parents in encouraging
her to give her baby up for
adoption. He is okay with my
trying to find my half brother.
(turns page)
This journal is supposed to be
about my quest to find my
half-brother but something odd
happened to me. Aunt Bea
introduced me to her new borders.
There was Josh Gordon and Jenna
Smythe and some older gentleman. He
was very unfriendly and no one
introduced me to him. Jenna Smythe
and I favor so much, it seems
unreal. Apparently her mom and my
mom also look alike. We are
distant cousins. But that wasn’t
the odd think. I went out to shoot
hoops with Josh Gordon. He did not
miss a single shot and some of them
he should have missed. The ball
was in no way aimed where the ball
should have gone in. It was like
magic, witchcraft.

Tess put the Jeremy’s Journal in her pocketbook.

                                                                 17.

INT. LIVING ROOM OF GLADYS’ SLOTH’S HOME - NIGHT

TESS FLETCHER walks into the living room where GLADYS SLOTH
is seated. Tess sits down in a chair.

TESS FLETCHER
I found a Journal that Jeremy had
been writing. I put it in my
pocketbook. Jeremy was looking for
his half-brother?

GLADYS SLOTH
Yes, though he did not tell me much
about his search. He was afraid it
might upset me, but I was okay with
his looking for his half brother.

TESS FLETCHER
He also mentioned something odd
about Josh Gordon’s playing
basketball.

GLADYS SLOTH
Yes. Jeremy and Josh developed a
strange relationship.

TESS FLETCHER
What about his relationship with
Mikey White?

GLADYS SLOTH
As I told you earlier Mikey and
Jeremy were friends, but the White
family and the Sloth family do not
get along. I would call it more
complicated than strange.

TESS FLETCHER
I mean did Mikey and Jeremy, you
know? Sex.

GLADYS SLOTH
Their friendship was strong and
they may have experimented, but
Elvira was the love of Jeremy’s
life. Now that between Josh and
Jeremy, it was different.

TESS FLETCHER
What do you mean? Different.

GLADYS SLOTH
Witchcraft! And that is not to be
in your book. Understand.

TESS FLETCHER
I understand but you must realize
that is a rather odd thing for you
to have said.

GLADYS SLOTH
I know. God! I know. Still, that
is what their relationship was
based on, witchcraft.

TESS FLETCHER
How so?

GLADYS SLOTH
Bea found Josh and Jeremy in her
basement, naked, and performing a
magic ritual. They were chanting
while pumping on one another’s
erect cocks. Bea said a picture of
Sheriff Barker was in the center of
a pentagram beneath their cocks.

TESS FLETCHER
What was the purpose of the spell?

GLADYS SLOTH
To make Sheriff Barker do their
bidding.

TESS FLETCHER
How did Bea react? How did you
react?

GLADYS SLOTH
How could we react? We let them
know that we didn’t like it but
they were grown men.

TESS FLETCHER
They were grown men but did they
take what they were doing seriously
or was it just an excuse to, you
know. I mean did they really
expect what they were doing to
work.

GLADYS SLOTH
It did work. Shortly after Bea
caught them performing the magic

spell, Sheriff Barker hired Jeremy
to clerk and do computer work for
him. Previously, Sheriff Barker
had rejected Jeremy for the
clerking job. Previously Sheriff
Barker would not allow my husband
to council any prisoners. That all
changed.

TESS FLETCHER
Please don’t be offended if I find
it hard to believe.

GLADYS SLOTH
Oh, I understand. If you have
never seen witchcraft at work, it
is easy to dismiss it as silly. I
fully understand. See if you can
get someone to get Josh to play
basketball with him. Watch him
play. He has a personality quirk
where he does not like to miss the
hoops.

TESS FLETCHER
Just out of curiosity, I may do
that. Still, do you think any of
that has anything to do with Jeremy
being kidnapped. Do you think Josh
was involved?

GLADYS SLOTH
(emotional and on the verge of
tears)
I don’t know. If I had the
answers, don’t you think I would
take my husbands gun and confront
whoever and demand answers and find
out what happened to my baby. I
just don’t know.

TESS FLETCHER
I am sorry I upset you. That is
the last thing I want to
do. Please forgive me for
pressing.

GLADYS SLOTH

I did know more.

TESS FLETCHER
I understand. Please do not be
upset. I am just trying to piece it
all together.

GLADYS SLOTH
(more calm)
I realize you are trying to gather
as much information as you can for
your book and to resolve what
happened to Jeremy. I want to help
you the best I can. Ask me whatever
you need to ask and I will answer
the best I can. I am sorry I got
emotional.

TESS FLETCHER
Have you read through Jeremy’s
Journal to know whether there is
anything particular I might should
focus on.

GLADYS SLOTH
Jeremy loved keeping journals. I
have read through some of them but
not all of them. I know I should
have manned up and looked through
all of them but I get weepy when I
start reading them and the ones I
have read do not seem to provide
any clues to anything. Also Jeremy
kept his journals scattered about
and some hidden so that I am not
even sure if I have found them all.

Tess Fletcher pulls the Journal she had started reading from
her pocketbook. She shows it to Gladys Sloth. Gladys Sloth
takes the journal and thumbs through it.

GLADYS SLOTH (cont’d)
This one is new to me. It must
have been in the box that Bea or
Johnny packed. When you are
finished reading it, please...

TESS FLETCHER
Oh, of course, I will return it. I
will make a copy of it to a
computer file so besides reading I
can search it for key words. I
would like to do that to all the
Journals if you can gather them for
me.

Of course. I have five of his
journals in a box in my
bedroom. Of course, there may be
more like the one you found that I
haven’t found. I will get the box
of journals from my bedroom for
you.

Gladys Sloth gets up and leaves the room.

TESS FLETCHER
I am starting to doubt that Sheriff
Barker even investigated the
kidnapping.

INT. MAUSOLEUM - NIGHT

Mikey White slips small wooden wedges between two crowbars
he has hammered into the coffin. We can see he has placed
several wedges in places where he has pried the coffin open
by around 1/2 an inch. He removes the crowbars. We see
that Mikey has a colonscope like tube tool to insert into
the coffin to take video inside of the coffin. He has the
device connected to a laptop computer where he can see video
as it is being recorded. On the laptop computer screen, we
and Mikey see a hand inside the coffin. The hand
moves. The hand reaches up. From inside the coffin view by
way of the laptop computer we turn to see fingers sticking
out of the coffin. We then see fingers from a second hand
sticking out of the coffin. The fingers form into a grip
pushing to open the coffin.

INT. HOTVILLE COLLEGE CLASSROOM - DAY

There are eight students in the class. There are two men
and six women. The students are chatting and walking
about. They are dressed for fencing class. Some have foils
in hand and are practicing or playing. COACH PAUL BLOOM is
standing in the front of the classroom and watching. He
looks down at his attendance book.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
First let me say, in this class
there are only two grades. A+ and
B+. If you show up over 50% of the
time you get A+ so consider Roll
Call as a test.

JOANNIE WHISTLING
Here.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
Blare Bismark

BLARE BISMARK
Yeah.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
Now today I am going to put on a
video which will show you some
basic moves. You can do what you
are doing now, or were doing before
I interrupted, as you watch the
video. Talk. Play around. Maybe
copy some of the maneuvers but
don’t get too rough.

Harry Dicko walks up to Duke Donnelson.

HARRY DICKO
So, do you want to practice
together.

DUKE DONNELSON
Sure.

Coach Paul watches Harry and Duke. SARAH SLOTH walks into
the classroom.

SARAH SLOTH
How is it going?

COACH PAUL BLOOM
Good I guess. Do you know the
story of those two men. They look
like brothers but they have
different last names.

SARAH SLOTH
As far as I know they aren’t
related. Harry is smart and comes
from a well off family. I don’t
know as much about Duke though I
think his grandfather is like super
rich. They both live on the same
road with ritzy homes. Now Cher
there, she comes from one of the
poor families but I like her. Sandy

SARAH SLOTH (cont’d)
Hunkan is also from one of the poor
families. The other girls aren’t
local but live in the dorm. I
understand President Newton Hymen
recruited the girls to come to the
college though I am not sure why.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
What are the girls majors?

SARAH SLOTH
Criminology related. That tends to
be one of more popular majors here.

Harry and Duke become aggressive with their foils. The rest
of the class pull to the sides of the room while Harry and
Duke take full center. It looks like they are getting ready
to fight. Coach Paul moves to break them up.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
Okay you two sissy boys, I don’t
want a cat fight in here. You two
drop down and give me 100 push ups.

Harry and Duke drop their foils to the floor. They give
Coach Paul a disgusted look.

DUKE DONNELSON
When hell freezes over.

HARRY DICKO
Unbelievable.

Duke and Harry walk toward the door.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
Where the hell do you two queers
think you are going?

DUKE DONNELSON
You aren’t teaching at a regular
college or High School. You are
teaching a fucking elective at a
small town College that will let
anyone in. We are dropping the
class.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
I can have you kicked out of this
College.

HARRY DICKO
Big fucking deal. I only enrolled
here to meet people. I run a mail
order business out of my parents'
basement. I brought in over a
$100,000 last year.

DUKE DONNELSON
Coach dude you called us sissy and
then you called us queer in front
of witnesses. We can have your ass
fired for using hate and fighting
words against us just because we
were running lines from a movie and
play acting.

ELLEN WAY
Look Coach, you were in the
wrong. Apologize, invite them back
in the class, and end this
bullshit.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
Running lines from a movie? You
weren’t getting ready to fight?

HARRY DICKO
Hell no. Duke could kick my ass.

DUKE DONNELSON
I don’t know. I think you might be
able to give me as good as I give.

HARRY DICKO
(looks around at the girls in
the class)
Yeah, fighting you, I might be able
to impress the ladies.

There is LAUGHTER from the girls in the class.

DUKE DONNELSON
Hells bells yeah. We both would
impress these fine looking women.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
I am sorry. I misread the
situation. I didn’t realize you
were acting out a movie. And I am
deeply sorry if I insulted your
manhood. My coaches used to do
that to me all the time. It was
wrong. Do you accept my apology?

don’t mean.

DUKE DONNELSON
Yeah. No big deal.

SARAH SLOTH
I have an idea. Harry and Duke, why
don’t you let the coach and me take
you out for dinner as a way to
apologize.

HILDA HINKLE
Well, I am feeling slighted. Miss
Sloth, I didn’t get an invitation
to dinner after you and I had our
fight.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
We can have a party over at my
house. You all will be invited.

EXT. COACH PAUL’S HOME - DAY

OSCAR CRUMBE is seated on the Porch Swing. He is kicking his
feet and swinging as he whistles. COACH PAUL drives up and
gets out of his car. He looks at Oscar Crumbe swinging on
his porch. He smiles and starts to run toward him but then
stops. Oscar stands up from the swing and the swing hits him
in the ass. Coach Paul walks up on his porch. He unlocks
the door to his house. He starts to walk inside but then he
stops, he turns. He walks to Oscar. He grabs Oscar into
his arms.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
I’ve missed you. God, I’ve missed
you.

OSCAR CRUMBE
How are things with you and Sarah?

COACH PAUL BLOOM
I love her but I also love you.

OSCAR CRUMBE
Love me. You love me. But I moved
to Georgia with the sole intent to
make your life hell. You are
screwing up my plans.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
You are moving to Georgia. That is
great. There is a house on the
street right behind my house that
is for rent. Please move there. I
will rent the house for you.

OSCAR CRUMBE
I’ve already rented the house. I
don’t need you to pay my rent.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
That is great. I am so glad that
you will be living close to me.

OSCAR CRUMBE
Close to you but not with you. You
really are a cruel bastard.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
I guess I am. There are two gay
men in one of my classes and I was
so mean to them today. I am not
sure they realize they are
gay. Sarah wants us to try to get
them past that denial and set them
up on a date. I didn’t know what
she was trying to do so anyway
Sarah and I are now giving a party
for my Fencing Class. Isn’t that
outrageous?

OSCAR CRUMBE
Outrageous. And I guess I will
have to sit on my back porch and
watch your party from afar.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
Don’t talk crazy. Of course you
are invited. Hell. Here is an
idea. Why don’t you help us throw
the party? You can get to know
Sarah.

OSCAR CRUMBE
I don’t want to get to know Sarah.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
Of course you do. Before you know
it, the four of us are going to be
a family.

OSCAR CRUMBE
The four of us?

COACH PAUL BLOOM
Sarah’s girlfriend Elvira.

OSCAR CRUMBE
See, this is what my Preacher is
afraid of; that gay marriage will
lead to polygamy. Or did he say
monogamy. Maybe monotony.

EXT. BACKYARD AND PATIO AREA BEHIND COACH PAUL’S HOME - DAY

COACH PAUL is standing at a grill. OSCAR CRUMBE and SARAH
SLOTH are standing with Coach Paul. The patio area and
backyard is decorated for a party.

OSCAR CRUMBE
When Coach Paul suggested that you
and I plan this party together I
thought he was crazy but I think we
did a pretty good job.

SARAH SLOTH
I agree.

Different students walk up to Coach Paul to say
hello. Oscar stands back, observing the students and their
guest. HARRY DICKO walks out to the patio and hands Sarah a
gift that is an item that he sells online.

HARRY DICKO
Mom said I should bring a gift. It
is a bottle of candy with a gift on
bottom.

SARAH SLOTH
Harry, this is so cool. Thank you.

Oscar and Harry stare at one another. Harry is not sure how
to respond to the look Oscar is giving him. Harry breaks
the mutual stare and starts to walk away.

OSCAR CRUMBE
So where is Duke, the other guest
of honor. I thought that you two
might come together.

Harry stops and turns back around to face Oscar.

HARRY DICKO
I don’t know. Duke lives right down
the road from me but we haven’t
ever really become friends. I mean,
we are not like enemies or anything
but, I don’t know.

OSCAR CRUMBE
Of course you know. You want to
fuck him and he wants to fuck you
but you are still at that stage
where you don’t want to be gay and
so it makes you so damn fucking
uncomfortable you can’t stand
it. I remember when I was in such
denial that I actually considered
marrying a woman. This man was
totally in love with me but I broke
his heart. I even moved to another
state, all the way across the
fucking country, just to avoid
having to deal with my
homosexuality.

HARRY DICKO
I am not gay. I like girls.

OSCAR CRUMBE
So when is the last time you went
on a date with a girl?

COACH PAUL BLOOM
Oscar, stop it. You are being
mean. He said he is not gay. Drop
it.

Harry stares at the big bear of a man, Oscar; and Oscar
stares back. They are back to their staring contest.

HARRY DICKO
So, are you in a relationship?

OSCAR CRUMBE
No. To be honest it has been so
long since I’ve had sex I am
starting to question my
homosexuality.

Harry grins. He walks next to Oscar and pats him on the
shoulder.

HARRY DICKO
You are okay. I like you. So what
class do you teach.

OSCAR CRUMBE
I sometimes teach bartending but
not at the college. And Harry, you
are also okay.

HARRY DICKO
Thanks. Well, I guess I better go
try to mingle. I guess if awkward
was considered a sexual orientation
that would be me.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
I understand that.

SARAH SLOTH
Yeah, we all go through phases
where we feel that way.

DUKE DONNELSON walks out on the patio. Harry gives Duke a
quick look and then blushes as Duke stands next to him.

DUKE DONNELSON
Sorry that I am late. I was at
Grace Park taking pictures and I
lost track of time. Have I missed
anything.

HARRY DICKO
Apparently they think, or at least
Oscar who I have just met, thinks
that you and I have never become
close friends because it makes us
nervous that we secretly want to
fuck one another.

DUKE DONNELSON
I am not gay.

HARRY DICKO
And neither am I.

OSCAR CRUMBE
Well I am totally straight. That
is what I put in all my online ads
where I am looking for a man to
suck my dick and let me fuck them
in the ass.

Duke clinches his fist.

          CONTINUED: 10.

DUKE DONNELSON
So who is this clown acting like he
knows us?

OSCAR CRUMBE
I am a friend of Coach Paul and
Sarah. Please don’t get pissed at
me. I am sorry.

DUKE DONNELSON
So like do you and Sarah go
antiquing together and do other
stuff fags and their hags enjoy.

HARRY DICKO
Man. That wasn’t cool.

Oscar grabs Duke up by the shirt collar.

OSCAR CRUMBE
I can see that you’ve got the punk
thing going on and you think you
are all so tough but next to me you
are a little man. I could crush you
like the little piss ant that you
are. My gaydar never fails me and
it tells me that both you and Harry
there are just as gay as I am but
are not yet ready to deal with it.
That is okay and I know I should
have been more respectful of that.
But don’t use words like fag trying
to hide your own repressed sexual
desires.

Oscar releases Duke with a shove backwards. Duke responds by
jumping forward and trying to hit Oscar. His first punch
misses but his second punch hits Oscar in the stomach. Oscar
doesn’t feel the blow to his gut. Still he grabs Duke into
his arms and pulls him close.

OSCAR CRUMBE (cont’d)
(whispers in Duke’s ear)
Are you a top or a bottom?

Oscar throws Duke to the ground.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
(screams)
Damn it Oscar, what the hell are
you doing? Do you always have to
try to make people feel like crap?

Oscar reaches down and helps Duke up with a friendly
hand. He then gives Duke a card.

OSCAR CRUMBE
If you ever want to talk in private
give me a call. I really do
understand what you are
experiencing.

Duke pulls his hand away from Oscar. He drops the card to
the ground.

DUKE DONNELSON
I am not experiencing anything!

OSCAR CRUMBE
If you aren’t experiencing anything
you seriously need to check
yourself for a pulse. You may be
dead.

Oscar turns to talk to Harry. Harry walks away away. Duke
turns and walks up to a CHER JOHNSON who is dancing alone.
Without asking if he can join her, he begins to dance with
her. She likes his moves. Their dancing becomes more
intimate; almost like they are having sex.

SARAH SLOTH
I think we made progress in getting
Harry and Duke to accept their
homosexuality.

OSCAR CRUMBE
(laughs)
I think so.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
Oscar, what the hell was that? Are
you drunk?

OSCAR CRUMBE
Yeah, I think I will claim being
drunk as my excuse. Sorry. I don’t
know what the hell got into me. I
guess I was projecting some stuff.
I am going home.

COACH PAUL BLOOM
No. Shit. Don’t go.

We watch Oscar Crumbe walk toward his home. Then our focus
turns to Duke and Cher dancing and kissing and rubbing their
bodies together.

          CONTINUED: 12.

CHER JOHNSON
You know, I heard what was being
said over there.

DUKE DONNELSON
(laughs)
So.

CHER JOHNSON
So I know that you do have a major
crush on Harry. You stalk him.

DUKE DONNELSON
What? Stalk him? Why would you say
such a thing.

CHER JOHNSON
Because I have been stalking
you. I even have a picture of you
in a tree taking pictures of Harry
in his bedroom.

With an expression of total shock on his face, Duke
continues rubbing his body against Cher as they dance. We
look from Cher and Duke dancing and toward the sky and see
the sun setting.

EXT. HOTVILLE LAKE - NIGHT

From a bluff we look down upon the lake reflecting
moonlight. From looking upon the lake, we see a rabbit. It
runs across a logging road. The rabbit runs in and out of
bushes. The rabbit runs up some steps. It runs up to a
large wooden door and then through a doggy door opening.

INT. CABIN LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

We see the rabbit run through the doggy door opening, across
a wooden floor. The rabbit jumps up into the arms of COUNT
DUSO. Count Duso yawns and we see his fangs. He pets the
rabbit as he uses a remote control to flip channels on the
TV.

COUNT DUSO
As usual, all these channels, and
not a thing worth watching on TV.

                                                                 13.

EXT. HOTVILLE LAKE - NIGHT

We see black shiny shoes standing on the edge of a
bluff. We again look over the lake. We see the black shiny
shoes turn away from the edge of the bluff and begin walking
along a path. We see the shoes step into a mud puddle and a
couple of frogs hop away from the mud puddle. We then view
up from the shoes and up the form of the man. We focus on a
badge. From looking at the badge we move up to see the face
of Sheriff Baskerville. We watch as he climbs into his
Sheriff’s Car.

INT. MAUSOLEUM - NIGHT

We see MIKEY WHITE with the look of horror on his face. We
see the coffin lid pressing against the chains as the hands
push from the inside trying to open the coffin. We see the
wood of the coffin lid splinter and crack. Then like an
explosion the wood of the lid flies apart and across the
Mausoleum. We see Jeremy Sloth, naked, climb from the
coffin.

MIKEY WHITE
(voice trembles)
Jeremy, you aren’t dead.

JEREMY SLOTH
I am very dead. A Vampire. Now I
am hungry. I am so hungry.

In a threatening manner, his fangs showing, he glides with
his feet slightly above the marble floor, toward Mikey
White. His form flashes between Vampire form and skeleton
form. He is a scary, campy, sight.

MIKEY WHITE
Fuck.

Mikey turns and runs out of the Mausoleum. Jeremy reaches
out for Mikey. As he does he folds, crumples, settles
weakly down onto the marble floor. He is now more of a sad
sight than a scary sight.

JEREMY SLOTH
Don’t run. Let me feed. I am so
weak. Come back.

From being weak on the floor, he has a burst of
energy. There is an orange flowing glow around him as he
goes from appearing almost at his end on the floor to an
upright, standing position. He opens his mouth wide to show
his fangs and then his jaws make a snapping noise.

                                                                 14.

EXT. CEMETERY - NIGHT

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE is driving through the cemetery. He
sees MIKEY WHITE running from the mausoleum. He stops and
exits his car.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
(scream)
Mikey, stop. Why are you running?

MIKEY WHITE
Someone is after me. I’ve got to
get out of here. They are
dangerous. You need to get out of
here.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
I am the Sheriff. I don’t run.

Mikey White keeps running but then stops at a tree. There
is a loud RUMBLING SOUND like a stomach growling but a lot,
lot, lot louder.

JEREMY SLOTH
(loud)
I am so hungry.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
What the hell?

Sheriff Baskerville draws his gun. He approaches the
Mausoleum. Then he sees a shadowy form exit the Mausoleum
and walk, stumble, toward him. Jeremy raises his arms out
in front of him.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE (cont’d)
Stop. Stop where you are? I don’t
want to shoot you.

Jeremy Sloth looks at the man who will be his first ever
victim. There is a look of sympathy for he doesn’t want to
kill Baskerville, but he is hungry for blood.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE (cont’d)
Jeremy Sloth?

JEREMY SLOTH
Ben.

Jeremy grabs Sheriff Baskerville and forces the gun from his
hand. Jeremy sinks his fangs into the neck of Sheriff
Baskerville. Mikey White runs from the tree where he has
been standing and tackles them both to the ground. He stops

Jeremy from drinking more of Sheriff Baskerville’s
blood. Jeremy and Mikey roll around on the ground. They
fight. Then Jeremy turns into a vampire bat and flies
away. Mikey White checks the condition of Sheriff
Baskerville.

INT. BEA GRIFFITH’S HOME - NIGHT

Sheriff Baskerville is laying on the couch, unconscious.
MIKEY WHITE, JENNA SMYTHE, and BEA GRIFFITH are standing and
looking at him.

JENNA SMYTHE
What happened to the Sheriff?

MIKEY WHITE
A vampire!

JENNA SMYTHE
Count Duso?

MIKEY WHITE
Count Duso was not in the coffin.

BEA GRIFFITH
What?

MIKEY WHITE
(speaking quickly, excited,
out of breath)
I tried something. I just wanted
to see inside but then the coffin
flew to pieces. Jeremy Sloth was in
the coffin. He is now a
vampire. He bit Sheriff
Baskerville. Do you think the
Sheriff is going to live?

Bea Griffith touches Sheriff Baskerville’s forehead. She
then pulls the collar of his shirt down to see the fang
marks where he was bitten. She rubs the cheek of his
face. She runs her hand down the inside of his shirt to
touch over his heart.

BEA GRIFFITH
He will live but I sense he has
lost a lot of blood. I see how you
tackled Jeremy and saved Sheriff
Baskerville. You were brave. You
did good.

JENNA SMYTHE
What are we going to do about
Jeremy?

BEA GRIFFITH
I don’t know. We must try to help
him.

JENNA SMYTHE
I wonder how Jeremy ended up in the
coffin instead of Count Duso. Did
Count Duso turn him into a Vampire
and then put him in the coffin.

BEA GRIFFITH
Count Duso would not do that to
Jeremy.

MIKEY WHITE
Count Duso was not being
himself. He, himself, was afraid
he was going to hurt us.

BEA GRIFFITH
We have got to figure out who the
witch is who was causing Count Duso
to have memory losses and murderous
impulses.

MIKEY WHITE
But right now our concern must be
Sheriff Baskerville.

JENNA SMYTHE
Jeremy will try to turn the Sheriff
into his slave. He will try to
compel him to come to him, to
help. That may help us to find
Jeremy.

There is a KNOCK on the door. Bea Griffith throws a blanket
over Sheriff Baskerville. She goes to answer the
door. JEREMY SLOTH is standing at the door.

JEREMY SLOTH
Is Ben going to be okay? I didn’t
mean to hurt him. I don’t want to
hurt anyone. I need help.

BEA GRIFFITH
Sheriff Baskerville is going to be
okay.

          CONTINUED: 17.

JEREMY SLOTH
Sheriff? What happened to Sheriff
Barker?

BEA GRIFFITH
He is dead. A car accident.

JEREMY SLOTH
May I come into your home? Will
you invite me in?

BEA GRIFFITH
Yes. I invite you. You are welcome
into my home.

Jeremy enters the home. He walks over to the couch. He
lifts the blanket off Sheriff Baskerville. He stares at
him.

JEREMY SLOTH
I am so sorry. I now know how
Count Duso must have felt.

MIKEY WHITE
You were naked and now you have
clothes.

JEREMY SLOTH
A Goodwill Box! I didn’t hurt
anyone else if that is what you are
wondering.

JENNA SMYTHE
So what happened to you? You were
kidnapped and then...

JEREMY SLOTH
I don’t remember. I don’t
remember.

JENNA SMYTHE
People think you are dead?

JEREMY SLOTH
I am dead.

JENNA SMYTHE
Hardly. So how are we going to
handle your return. Are you going
to announce you are back.

          CONTINUED: 18.

BEA GRIFFITH
No. People will want
answers. People close to Jeremy
will expect a normal behavior and
realize there is something wrong.

JEREMY SLOTH
So I guess I must leave Hotville.

BEA GRIFFITH
No. You can pretend to be my son
that I gave up for adoption. We
can use the Count Duso’s lab and
his studies to try to figure out
how to return you to a more human
state. Count Duso was able to
become a day walker. At the very
least we know that is possible.

JEREMY SLOTH
Yes, Count Duso will help me.

BEA GRIFFITH
We don’t know where Count Duso
is. We thought he was in the
coffin where you were chained. We
were sent a letter to make us think
that.

JEREMY SLOTH
I don’t know how I came to be in
the coffin but I am sure that Count
Duso would not have done that to
me.

MIKEY WHITE
Not as himself, but you remember
there was something happening to
him. He had become something of a
Jekyll and Hyde.

JEREMY SLOTH
I don’t remember.

MIKEY WHITE
What is the last you remember?

JEREMY SLOTH
Having sex with Elvira and her
kissing me as I was leaving to get
in my car. That is the last thing
that I remember.

MIKEY WHITE
Is there a spell to restore his
memory?

JENNA SMYTHE
It is too dangerous?

BEA GRIFFITH
How would it be dangerous?

JENNA SMYTHE
The mind protects itself from
memories it can’t handle or that
would distort a sense of reality.
He might go totally crazy. You
know, start playing with dolls like
he believes they are real.

BEA GRIFFITH
Bitch!

JENNA SMYTHE
Sorry. I couldn’t resist.

Jeremy Sloth walks up to an antique grandfather clock. He
looks at the time.

JEREMY SLOTH
I need a coffin before daylight.

BEA GRIFFITH
The coffin of Count Duso is still
in his secret lab in my
basement. You can use it.

MIKEY WHITE
Speaking of secret rooms, I need to
close the door to the secret
chamber in the Mausoleum.

BEA GRIFFITH
It might be a good idea to return
Sheriff Baskerville to the cemetery
before he recovers and wakes.

EXT. CEMETERY - NIGHT

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE is laying near a tombstone on the
ground. He wakes. He rubs his neck as he sits up. The
fang marks vanish as he rubs his neck. We see the sun rise
and hear a ROOSTER CROW. Weak, Sheriff Baskerville stands
up. He swoons. He uses the tombstone to catch himself from
falling.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
I remember Jeremy Sloth biting me
on the neck but that can’t be
real. I must have got hit on the
head and just dreamed that part. I
need to talk to Mikey White.

Sheriff Baskerville takes some deep breaths. He steadies
himself and steps away from the tombstone. He makes his way
to his Sheriff’s Car. He gets into the car and drives off.

INT. SHERIFF STATION - DAY

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE enters the station and fixes himself
some coffee. With the coffee in hand he walks over to a
mirror and looks at his neck in the mirror. He shrugs. He
walks over to his desk and sits down.

TESS FLETCHER enters the Sheriff Station. She is smiling
and chipper while the Sheriff looks like he has a
hangover. She walks over and fixes herself some coffee and
then walks over to a chair in front of the Sheriff’s desk.

TESS FLETCHER
Jeremy Sloth and Josh Gordon
practiced witchcraft. They put a
spell on Sheriff Barker to control
him.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
You can’t be serious. Witchcraft!

TESS FLETCHER
I don’t know if I much take the
notion of witchcraft seriously
either, but that is what Gladys
Sloth told me. She also said that
Jeremy was working as a clerk here at
the time he was kidnapped.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
Are you sure? I don’t remember
Jeremy working here.

TESS FLETCHER
Is that something you would
necessarily know or remember?

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
Guess not. So Jeremy worked
here. I guess there are files I
can check. That is if they have
not been messed with.

TESS FLETCHER
You look awful this morning. Are
you sick?

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
Someone hit me over the head in the
cemetery. Mikey White was somehow
involved. He was running from
someone. I guess I need to talk to
him. That is not going to be fun.

TESS FLETCHER
You might need to go to the
hospital. You may have a
concussion.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
Shit. I hate hospitals. I am
going to be okay.

Doc Hassle walks into the Sheriff Station.

DOC HASSLE
Tess. Ben. You two still having sex
on a regular basis?

TESS FLETCHER
What a thing to ask?

DOC HASSLE
Well, you know what they say. Sex
is better exercise than jogging.

TESS FLETCHER
(shrugs, gives him a double
look, laughs)
I’ll stick to riding my bicycle.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
Doc, if you came here to report on
your Peeping Tom again, I am not
going to arrest your 90 year old
neighbor.

DOC HASSLE
She keeps ruining my flower garden
but I am not here about
that. Someone stole blood from the
hospital.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
Stole blood?

DOC HASSLE
That is what I said. Blood! Young
people these days. All the cool
drugs they could have stolen and
they steal blood.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
Why do you think they would have
stolen the blood?

DOC HASSLE
How the hell should I know? Maybe
there is a gang of hemophiliacs in
town.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
Well, did any of the hospital staff
notice anyone strange around the
hospital.

DOC HASSLE
I didn’t question the hospital
staff for you. That is your job.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
(gives Doc Hassle a dirty
look)
I guess.

DOC HASSLE
Say, you are looking like total
shit this morning. No wonder Tess
would rather ride her bicycle.

TESS FLETCHER
He got hit over the head last
night.

DOC HASSLE
You might have a concussion.

TESS FLETCHER
That is what I told him.

DOC HASSLE
Yeah but you aren’t a doctor. You
really should come by my office and
let me check you out.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
I am not a library book.

DOC HASSLE
What? Oh yeah. Real funny.

MIKEY WHITE enters the Sheriff Station.

MIKEY WHITE
Hey. Doc. Tess. Sheriff. I figured
you might want to talk to me about
last night.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
Do you know who was chasing
you? Who attacked me?

MIKEY WHITE
I don’t know. Truth is, at first I
thought it was a ghost.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
For a moment I thought it was
Jeremy Sloth I saw, so I guess I
also kind of thought it was a
ghost.
(beat)
But it wasn’t any ghost who hit me
on the head.

MIKEY WHITE
Are you okay? I am sorry if you
were hurt. I shouldn’t have left
you like I did.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
It wasn’t your job to protect me,
but I appreciate the sentiment. I
am okay.

MIKEY WHITE
I wish I could be more help, but it
was dark and I was scared. I can’t
even describe who was after me.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
Well, you take care. You and your
father do tend to make enemies.

MIKEY WHITE
How well I know. If I think of
anything I will tell you and if you
learn anything, please let me know.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
I will do.

Mikey White leaves.

TESS FLETCHER
I think Mikey knows more than he
was telling. I get the feeling he
was lying but I don’t know why.

DOC HASSLE
Hell, Mikey will tell you a lie
when the truth would serve him
better. He can’t help
himself. That said, he and his
father are generous to the hospital
so I guess I shouldn’t be bad
mouthing him.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
I don’t know. Thinking about it, I
am sort of thinking Mikey White may
have come back and fought with my
attacker. He may have saved me.

DOC HASSLE
And then left you there. He should
have brought you to the hospital.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
I am okay. Still, I wonder why he
would have lied.

DOC HASSLE
I told you...

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
Yeah, I know. Habitual
liar. Still, as a lawman I have to
look for real motives and not pop
psychology.

TESS FLETCHER
Obviously, Mikey does know who the
attacker was. And Doc is right,
Mikey should not have just left you
there.

BEA GRIFFITH enters the Sheriff Station. She brings some
cookies and puts them on the Sheriff’s desk. She is
smiling.

BEA GRIFFITH
I have some great news. My son had
been searching for me. He found
me.

TESS FLETCHER
That is wonderful.

BEA GRIFFITH
I am so happy. Well, I’ve got to
be running.

Bea Griffith leaves the Sheriff Station.

INT. PREACHER JOHN SLOTH’S CHURCH OFFICE - DAY

PREACHER SLOTH is sitting with a Sandy Hunkan and her
mother.

PREACHER JOHN SLOTH
I understand your reluctance to
want to give your baby up for
adoption but you should listen to
your mother.

SANDY HUNKAN
I want to keep my baby. Things are
bad now but they will get
better. I am sure I will be able
to take care of my baby.

MRS. HUNKMAN
This is a small town. It is not
like a big city. People will talk
about you and your baby.

SANDY HUNKAN
Maybe I will move to Atlanta.

PREACHER JOHN SLOTH
And be homeless. Destitute. If you
can’t take care of your baby,
Social Services will take the baby
from you and who knows where your
baby will end up. Isn’t it better
that you put your baby up for
adoption.

SANDY HUNKAN
I have faith that it will work out
where I can keep my baby.

Faith! The only faith you can
trust is faith that you will not
win the big lottery.

SANDY HUNKAN
I am not due for 7 months. I don’t
want to sign anything until I have
more time to consider my options.

INT. TESS FLETCHER HOME - DAY

TESS FLETCHER is looking at Jeremy Sloth’s journals.

TESS FLETCHER
(reads)
I tried to get a job with Sheriff
Barker. He would not hire me. To
make it even worse he gave me a
ticket for speeding while I was
driving home. I have no idea what
I did to piss him off. I told Josh
about it and he said we could cast
a spell so that Sheriff Barker
would give me the job. The spell
seems to have worked. I got the
job.
(turns page)
I have been able to locate the file
where Sheriff Barker took Aunt
Bea’s son to deliver to his new
parents. I would not have been
able to locate the file without the
finder spell that Josh gave
me. The file was well hidden in a
storage room that stays locked.
(turns page)
It was not a normal adoption. It
was not what Aunt Bea or her
parents thought. The baby was sold
on the black market. When I told
my father he cried. He told me
that I should not tell Aunt Bea. I
wanted to confront Sheriff Barker
but my father said that we
can’t. Sheriff Barker is too
powerful. Dangerous.
(turns page)
Josh told me that there is a spell
that we can use to get information
from Sheriff Barker without him
knowing it. He will not remember a
thing.

          CONTINUED: 27.

(turns page)
Aunt Bea’s son was not taken from
Hotville. Harry Dicko is her
son. He and I actually went to
school together. His parents are
nice enough. It is not like what
father and I feared. We’d imagined
the worst. I told father who his
son, my half-brother is. Father
knows his parents and talked to
them. It has been decided that we
will not pursue what we know. We
will not tell Harry. We will not
tell Aunt Bea. I feel so unsettled
by it all. I had so obsessed on
finding my half-brother and now I
am not going to do anything about
it. It makes me mad that Sheriff
Barker was selling babies to the
highest bidders. I guess like in
the case of Harry the parents were
usually good parents but still, if
it had been the girls themselves
selling their babies they would
have been arrested. It makes me
angry.
(turns page)
I thought about quitting my job with
Sheriff Barker, but if he was
involved in one criminal activity
there are probably other illegal
things he has been doing. I want
to bring him down. I want his ass
in jail.
(turns page)
I just learned something about my
father. I don’t want to believe it
is true. I can’t bring myself to
write about it.

Tess closes the journal.

TESS FLETCHER (cont’d)
That was the last entry before the
kidnapping.

Tess Fletcher and Preacher Sloth are seated near his desk.

TESS FLETCHER
You must have known that Sheriff
Barker was involved in Jeremy’s
kidnapping. You knew enough about
what Jeremy was doing.

PREACHER JOHN SLOTH
What are you talking about?

TESS FLETCHER
The selling of babies. The selling
of your and Bea’s baby.

Preacher John Sloth’s eyes widen. There is a look of guilt
on his face.

TESS FLETCHER (cont’d)
My God, that is what Jeremy
discovered. You were
involved. When Jeremy told you
about the selling of your baby, you
weren’t crying because you were
afraid of what happened to your
baby. You were involved.

PREACHER JOHN SLOTH
No. Of course I was not involved.

TESS FLETCHER
Jeremy figured it out. He wasn’t
going to keep quiet about it, was
he.

PREACHER JOHN SLOTH
Tess. You know me. I wouldn’t do
such a thing.
(beat)
Where is your evidence?

TESS FLETCHER
Oh, I will get the evidence.

John Sloth stands up and leans to open a drawer to his
desk. Tess stands up and is about to leave when he pulls a
gun from the desk drawer. He points the gun at Tess. He
shoots her and she falls to the floor a few feet from the
door. Blood puddles where she has fallen.

PREACHER JOHN SLOTH
Meddling bitch.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE walks into the office. He sees Tess has
been shot. He quickly pulls his gun as he shifts and jumps

hoping to throw Preacher John’s aim off. Preacher John
fires his gun but misses. Preacher John then jumps out a
window, breaking the glass. He makes his getaway. Sheriff
Baskerville quickly checks on Tess.

SHERIFF BASKERVILLE
Thank God you are still alive.

Sheriff Baskerville pulls his cellphone from his pants
pocket and calls 911.

COUNT DUSO stares at the chains and the pieces of wood that
          once was the coffin.

I should have known when I built
the coffin it wouldn’t last as long
as I had hoped. If you want good
timber you have to cut down the
                    trees yourself.

Aren’t you afraid that you will be
seen? Mikey White and Jenna Smythe
                    and Bea Griffith all come
here. They worry for you as much
                    even as they fear you.

I felt a disturbance in the
                    ether. I felt something was
wrong. We must find Jeremy, for
this is not the time he should
rise. He should only have risen
after all that he has known has
                    turned to dust.

I went along with your plans. You
know I love Jeremy just as much as
you love him but I have decided we
were wrong. We must either let him
be free or drive a stake through
his heart. I will not use my
powers to bind another coffin in
                    these chains.

I agree but we must find him. Do

I sense that at this moment he is
near his father but I am not
certain. I taught Jeremy his magic
fairly well and he is in hiding.

That is not all together bad but it
                    is inconvenient for me.

You go talk to Mikey and Bea and
maybe Jenna. Through them, see if
you can sense where he is. If you
can tell me where, I will go to

Damn. That place gives me a
headache but if I can find Jeremy
there then it will be worth it.

EXT. PREACHER JOHN SLOTH’S CHURCH OFFICE - NIGHT

Count Duso is standing just outside the window of the church
office. He is hiding behind a tree as he peeps through the
window. He sees the EMS techs loading Tess onto a
stretcher. As they come out of the church Count Duso turns
          into a bat.

The EMS vehicle is speeding down the road. Its siren is
BLARING and its lights are flashing. When it comes to a car
the car quickly pulls off the road to make room for it to
safely pass. The Sheriff’s Vehicle is following closely
behind the EMS. Sheriff Baskerville can be seen through the
windshield and then the window on driver’s side. The view
moves from the side view of the Sheriff’s car to behind for
a visual of both the EMS vehicle and the Sheriff’s car
          speeding down the road.

Focus is on Tess Fletcher’s face. There is no oxygen
attached at first view. The view moves down from her face
to show a bloody sheet. The view then moves to show the EMS
Tech applying pressure directly to her side and trying to
stop the bleeding. The view then moves back up to her face
as the EMS Tech puts an oxygen mask over her mouth and nose.

live. Please don’t die. I will

                    Tess was crazy. She attacked

words. Your eyes. There was just
                    something about the entire
thing. Still, I didn’t want to
believe it. Now Tess, who was

I’ve told you the truth. She came
into my office like a crazy
woman. I had to shoot her.

          passes out.

JEREMY SLOTH and BEA GRIFFITH are in the kitchen. He
          suddenly grabs his head.

For some reason your spell has been
broken. I am feeling compelled to
go to Sheriff Baskerville. He is
                    in trouble. He needs blood.

I closed his wound. He shouldn’t
                    have lost any more blood.

We need to get him back here where
we can give him a transfusion from
                    the blood that we stole.

You need that blood until we can
                    obtain more from Atlanta.

                    I can’t remember the transport
spell that Josh taught me. Damn
it. What the hell was that spell.

          JOSH GORDON enters the kitchen.

So here you are? I found you gone
                    from the coffin.

You knew. You did that to Jeremy?

We thought it was for his own good.

Never mind that now. I’ll ask the
details later. We have got to get
                    Sheriff Baskerville here for a

                    dies. Can you do it?

Let me think. I should be able to
tell. I am connected to him.
Okay. He gave blood at the
                    hospital. That is what
happened. He gave his blood for
some woman by the name of Tess
                    Fletcher. She was shot.

                    Son of a bitch! Fuck!

                    What?

She was shot by my father.

Never mind that now. Don’t get all
angry at your father again. You
can’t do magic when you are upset.

                         odd, questioning look.)
Okay. Never mind. That is out of my
mind. How do we do the transport
spell? We have got to get him here

Focus is on Sheriff Baskerville. The fang marks reappear on
his neck. The focus moves toward the closed door to the
office. The door slowly opens. PREACHER JOHNNY SLOTH enters
the office with his gun pointed toward Sheriff Baskerville.

A ghostly image of JEREMY SLOTH appears next to Sheriff
Baskerville. He stares at his father as he, Jeremy, touches
Sheriff Baskerville. At Jeremy’s touch Sheriff Baskerville
vanishes from the office. The ghostly image of Jeremy
          stands up.

devious devil, you will not save

Sheriff Baskerville is on the couch. JEREMY SLOTH is laying
on the floor. The ghostly image of Jeremy enters his own

Sheriff Baskerville is being given a blood transfusion. JOSH

I need to catch you up on things.

                    Jeremy, you discovered that your
                    father had been selling babies.
                    While searching for your

your father and Sheriff Barker had

Bea Griffith stops working to heal Sheriff Baskerville. She
grabs Josh by his shirt collar.

                    What? Selling babies. Johnny sold
my baby. He made money from my

Bea, I am sorry but yes.

Bea Griffith pulls her hands away from Josh. Tears roll down
her cheeks as she returns to working with Sheriff

Josh, go on. Tell Jeremy what
needs to be told. I promise not to
be distracted from my healing task.

At first your father convinced you
that it should be kept quiet. At
that point you didn’t realize that
your father was involved in Sheriff
                    Barker’s profiteering. He made you
think that you should not tell
Harry Dicko that he is adopted and
who his real parents are. At first
he convinced you that you should
not tell Bea that you had found her
son. Then when you discovered your
father was in the business of
selling babies, you decided to tell
all. You realized the silence was
not to protect Harry or Bea but to

Jeremy when his father threw him
off lover’s leap. I managed to use
my power to slow his fall but it
was not enough. When Count Duso
and I reached him at the bottom of
the bluff he was near death. If I
had your healing powers I might
could have saved him but I don’t
have your ability to heal and
there was not time to fetch you.
Even if we had fetched you, you
might not have been able to save
him. The way Count Duso figured the
situation, the only way for Count
Duso to save Jeremy was to turn him
                    into a vampire.

                              JEREMY SLOTH
Why lock me in the coffin?

                              JOSH GORDON
                    You killed two people. Mikey,
Jenna, and Bea though it was Count
Duso who killed them but it was
you. You planned to kill your
                    father. You talked about turning
your mother into a vampire. You
                    considered turning Harry into a
vampire. Count Duso thought if you
had time in the coffin and then
                    were eventually released to a
different time you would be less
                    dangerous, deadly. He didn’t want
to hurt you. He didn’t want to
kill you. He was only thinking of
you. He loves you very much.

Father shot some woman by the name
of Tess. In astral, ghost, form I
saw that he was going to kill
                    Sheriff Baskerville. We saved the
                    Sheriff from father when we
                    transported the Sheriff here.
Father is still at the hospital and
still wants to kill Tess. I must
go to the hospital and stop him.

Josh Gordon’s cellphone rings. He answers the phone. COUNT
DUSO is on the other end of the connection.

Yes. I understand. I have found
Jeremy. The best I can tell he is
okay now though he does have
partial amnesia. Look. He told me
that his father is at the hospital
and is going to try to kill Tess
Fletcher. He wants to go to the
                    hospital to stop his father.

Tell him I am at the hospital. I
                    will protect Tess.

                    I will do.

INT. TESS’ HOSPITAL ROOM - NIGHT

PREACHER JOHN SLOTH is in the hospital room where Tess
remains unconscious. We focus on a chart at the foot of her
bed which reads, "Vitals Good." Preacher John Sloth points
his gun at Tess. There is the SOUND of a cart SQUEAKING. A
door to the hosptial room slowly starts to open. Preacher
Sloth quickly puts his gun into his pocket and darts through
a different door. Two NURSES enter the room.

                              NURSE 2
I can’t believe she survived. It
                    is a miracle.

I wonder where the blood came from
that the strange surgeon gave her.

I don’t know and it is best that
neither of us know. It was weird
                    and probably illegal. Regardless,
I am glad Tess is going to live.

Preacher John Sloth is pissing in the toilet. He finishes
and then turns and peeps out the restroom door to look at
the two nurses and Tess. Suddenly the opposite door from
the hospital room that shares the restroom opens. COUNT
DUSO puts Preacher John Sloth in a choke hold and covers his
          mouth.

The two nurses exit the room. COUNT DUSO and PREACHER JOHN
SLOTH fall through the door and wrestle on the floor.

On the floor Preacher John Sloth kicks Count Duso in the
balls as he squirms away from him. Preacher John Sloth
pulls his revolver. He points his revolver at Count Duso.
